    Duck & Waffle

We stopped by at Between Us for brunch and it was an alright overall experience. The hit of the meal was the curry Hamburg - basically a Japanese curry loco moco mash up. The sauce was delicious and we mopped this dish up. The duck and waffle was odd - although the duck was cooked well the accompanying syrup included guava which we were initially intrigued with but ultimately disappointed by. The dish would have been better with just straight up plain maple syrup. The beignets were fluffy but I felt that the dip itself was a little lacking. The matcha half had good texture but lacked flavor, and the black sesame half had good flavor but was a little "firm" and difficult to dip. Service was alright. Our server was straight to the point and not warm with us.

came in on sunday, it gets busy so I recommend booking reservation. I really enjoyed eating the curry hamburg, it's like a mix between loco mocco and curry and omu rice. the steak & eggs was good with the chimichurri sauce. I would pass on matcha latte but pretty for the picture. beignets were good but if you're sitting at the table tops by the entrance beware because the wind will make the sugar go all over you. I honestly don't know if the staff noticed but the sugar kept going all over us and we had to keep wiping it off our clothes. Just a tip I would not recommend sitting at the table tops unless the window is closed. we asked if it could be closed and one staff said yes but our server said no since she had to climb up and close it.. mix feelings from my groups overall experience because we saw that they closed it only after we left. overall food is good, id come back if i have a reservation. maybe I will have better experience sitting in the dinning area away from open window so my food doesn't go all over me again LOL

Matcha latte tiramisu: skip this, doesn't taste like matcha at all...just sugary green liquid Beignets: they're fine. I personally enjoyed the matcha cream more than black sesame but wouldn't order again Steak and eggs: really loved how the steak was cooked and the favorite part of my dish Friends liked their order too

My daughter found Between Us on social media. It is located in North Park and parking is street or paid. It took a bit but we found free street parking. We were seated right away. The inside is much bigger than we expected and it also had open parts for fresh air. There is bar seating as well as tables. All the staff was very friendly. We ordered the Banana Bread, Granola Bowl & House Potaotes. Everything on the menu sounds so good! We saw that a lot of people ordered beignets too. Our food was brought out pretty quickly and it all looked so good, the granola bowl had a lot of fresh fruit. The potatoes were the best! Crispy on the outside, soft inside and perfectly seasoned. The presentation of the banana bread was so pretty! The texture of the bread was perfect and the edges had a light crisp. The cream cheese went well with the bread - not too sweet. The coffee syrup added that extra touch of flavor and it was topped with a thin slice of crispy banana. Staff checked on us often. Next time we come to SD we will come back and try some beignets and more food items!

First of all, the vibe of this place is so nice. Relaxing but also the decor just made it seem more elegant. Love the idea of having the open garage door in the front to let the breeze in. Perfect for the weather right now where it's just enough breeze to keep you cool. The food was delicious! I was worried that the curry may be too sweet but it was actually not too sweet at all! It went perfectly with the mushroom rice! We also got the beignets with a matcha and black sesame spread and the beignets were nice and fluffy. The service was fast and friendly and we just overall had a great experience here.

I think about these beignets all the time! They're so delicious, and I absolutely loved the matcha and black sesame dipping sauces. The beignets are perfectly fluffy and pair so well with both dips. This is such a great spot for breakfast or brunch and the perfect place to catch up with friends. The service is always friendly, which makes the experience even better! #like #comment #livelaughlovelife :)

I really enjoyed my visit to Between Us. First off, the restaurant has a cool vibe and atmosphere. I appreciate the interior and furniture in the restaurant - the small details were nice. Plates were huge, so I'm glad we chose to do family style and try everything out together. Our server was really kind as well, so we'll be back.

I came her for brunch with a friend a few days ago, and we were feeling adventurous! While we usually opt for the sweet beignets, we instead went for the savory ones! I'm not usually a mushroom girlie, but I actually quite enjoyed the mushroom dip that they had, and I would recommend this if you, too, are feeling adventurous! I ordered the pancakes with maple syrup. They were good, not particularly brag worthy, but they were fine. My friend got a mushroom and rice dish that she really liked though.

New favorite brunch spot in town!!!! do yourself a favor and make a reservation. If you're able to plan ahead, there's definitely availability. My friend has said that she's waited an hour plus for a table as a walk in. I could understand why it came so highly recommended from a friend. The butterscotch matcha was to die for. It wasn't overly sweet and the Matcha was so smooth. Portions here are very generous. The beignets were good, but I probably didn't need them after getting our entrées. I got the curry hamburg which was basically an elevated loco moco. The curry was rich and had a little kick to it. My husband got the fried rice, which was solid with the fried chicken on the side. The kids loved the eggs and sausage. The French toast was a bit too crispy on the edges for them but overall they enjoyed everything also. There's lots more for me to try on the menu. Can't wait to come back! The only downside about this place is the parking!

Such a cute brunch spot! Came here on a date and was not disappointed. The space is open and welcoming and nicely decorated. The food: we ordered the beignets, duck waffle, fried maitake, mango matcha and hojicha latte. The beignets were very good and I am obsessed with the matcha and black sesame cream it comes with. The duck had great flavor and I loved the guava syrup, the waffle was a miss. The fried maitake was delicious!! Perfect batter coating on the outside. Overall a solid 7.5/10. The drinks: mango matcha was creamy and tasty! Hojicha was alright, not the best, not the worst. Service: we got sat immediately and our waiter was super friendly and helpful with questions we had

Came here for brunch after looking for a new place. Didn't have a wait on a monday morning. They had matcha and hojicha lattes-- tried their black sesame latte with a hojicha shot and my bf had the tiramisú matcha latte. Shared the beignets- sweet, the hamburg curry, creme bruñe french toast and the fuck & waffle. Everyone enjoyed their meals! A bit spendy for breakfast, but def delicious.

We dropped by as a party of two on an early Saturday morning and were seated promptly at the bar. Their menu has a paragraph listing their local sources from food to drinks, which I found to be an amazing tidbit to include. The interior is very open air yet cozy. We ordered the sweet beignets with black sesame and matcha cream dip, shakshuka, and curry hamburg and had leftovers to spare! They offer beignets that were deliciously soft and perfect with their matcha/sesame dip. The shakshuka is not as thick as the traditional dish, more like a tomato soup with their catch of the day. The bread crust was perfectly crunchy and a soft, doughy inside. The curry hamburg was amazing! The rice made a perfect pairing with the sauce and the egg was soft and pillowy! Outside, Colibrí had a flower cart with plenty of shade. Between Us was the first restaurant to collaborate with this immigrant-focused local company! The co-owner was a pleasure to speak with, and often does pop-ups in the area. If you're ever looking for an amazing flower arrangement, please check them out on instagram!

Visiting out of town and my daughter wanted to have beignets before we went back home. Found this spot that was dog friendly. They had limited seating outdoors. Next time I'll prefer to sit at the counter. Service was great as our server made my daughter feel special for her birthday. A lot of unique items on the menu. I went with their special latke Benedict which was delicious as enjoyed having potatoes instead of bread as the base. I would definitely like to come back and try other items on their menu.

When I made the reservation, it was noted that there is a 1.5 hour limit on the table. Thankfully, Botanica isn't incredibly stringent about this rule as it gave us more time to eat, drink and be merry. My friend and I split the bill and I paid $87.49 with tip included. Here's what we had: Blistered shishito peppers - mild spice but flavorful New York strip yakitori - ordered two of these because they were that good! The steak was tender and the sauce rendered an umami flavor Botanika roll - tasted fine, but it ate one note. You can taste the citrusy parts but not much else. Mochi dessert - you can only get dessert if you order the pre fixe chef menu, but since our waitress didn't know this, she put the order in and gave it to us! We were incredibly grateful because it was the perfect end to a good meal For cocktails we ordered Spirited Away, Dragon of the West, Kyoko Sakura & Heads will Roll. All of the cocktails were beautifully presented and quite tasty.

I started with the London Dry G&T, which was excellent--cold, crisp, and exactly what a gin and tonic should be. We shared a dozen raw oysters. They were fresh and delicious, though a little on the petite side. No complaints, though--they disappeared quickly enough. Then came the bread and butter. I realize writing a paragraph about bread and butter makes me sound like I've completely lost perspective, but here we are. The bread was fantastic, and the butter should probably have its own fan club. The charred cauliflower was the sleeper hit of the meal. If someone had told me beforehand that I'd be thinking about a cauliflower dish days later, I would have laughed. It was outrageously good. For dessert, we had the Basque cheesecake, which was rich, creamy, and completely worth saving room for. If there's a better way to end a meal, I'm not currently aware of it. The atmosphere was lively without being chaotic, and the service was friendly and relaxed. Overall, a great spot for a night out. The Kurt Vile concert was excellent, but I have to admit the cauliflower made a pretty strong case for being the headliner.

I am a vegetarian so I usually opt for the avo / cucumber rolls. First thing that came out was the edamame. The edamame tasted old and the beans were soft, definitely did not taste fresh at all. We left most of it on the table. My avocado rolls then came out with black/brown spots on the avocado which looked rancid. I asked for a replacement, which was then sent to me with salmon eggs on the avocado. I am a vegetarian so I could not eat this, but at this point, I did not want to be fussy again. My friend's rolls came out with fish that looked pretty grey and unappetizing. She did not really eat this either and got a pretty bad stomach ache afterward. At this point, our miso soup had to be the hero, but we were told the soups were accidentally given to another table. We didn't want to wait around for the soup, so we paid and left. All of us were hungry after. I definitely would not return to this spot. 2 stars for the servers that were trying their best.
