Beyond Thai gets high marks for being open late (and on Christmas), good customer service, and delicious food. Yesterday we arrived around 9:40 pm. Though they were tired and ready to go home, they allowed us to order. So glad they did. When new Thai cooks are learning to make chicken lettuce wraps, they'd be well served coming to Beyond Thai to see how it is done. These were delicious. My only complaint was that the wedge of lettuce did not peel into good serving beds. The highlight of my visit was the Thai basil eggplant. It is the best Thai dish I've eaten in years. It had a little kick, just the right seasoning, and a great mix of eggplant, onion, purple potato, and chicken. I'm coming back here just for this dish. My family has been ordering from Beyond Thai regularly on Friday Nights. Today we ordered the Ginger Salmon, Crying Tiger Entree (Rate), Chicken Pot Stickers, and a Mongolian Chicken with added beef. The Salmon was Soooooo over cooked it was inedible, it was a colossal waste of $17.00. In the past when I've called because something was really bad, the customer service has been great. They've given us a credit that we can use the next time we order. Tonight the person who answered (not the person who I usually deal with and who has always provided great customer service) said they could make a new one for me but I have to bring the other one back. I told them I'd be happy to leave it I. My refrigerator for a few weeks until we order again. My wife didn't want another one at 9pm. The restaurant I'm sure wasn't going to replace my $17.00 meal, because by the time I'd have driven the round trip to the restaurant to get a new Ginger Salmon, my meal would be stone cold. I was also RUDELY told that I need to tell them how I (in this case my wife) wanted the Salmon cooked. If that was so important in order not to KILL the salmon when cooking it, the person taking the order should ask how we want the salmon cooked. And to add insult to injury, my son likes his Crying Tiger rare. It was even noted on the receipt, yet his meal was cooked well past rare. It was, for him, just edible so he ate it, and I didn't complain about it when I called. It is, to be fair, possible that it was cooked rare, and kept cooking while we drove home. Beyond Thai is located in a strip mall like area right on Church street in Skokie. Because this place shares a parking lot with 5 or so businesses, depending on timing, you can either find a parking spot, or you don't. You could kind of wait to see if a spot opens up, as there is a dry cleaners there, and people do pop in and out quickly. But the issue is you can't really wait, as there's only one lane of traffic, and if someone is behind you, you can't just sit there idling your car, and instead need to exit the parking lot and loop around. It's like you're at the airport :-D Anyways, to the actual restaurant. Beyond Thai is a medium-sized dining area, with a small-sized business vibe. The place is low maintenance and offers booth seating and table seating. There's booths on the right, when you walk in, tables in the middle, and tables for larger parties on the left. I would estimate that the dining area seats about 50 people total. For food, I went with the weekday lunch special (weekdays from 1130AM - 300PM), where for under 8-bucks, you get a choice of various entrees such as curry, fried rice, kung pao, pad thai, etc. All Lunch Special includes a salad with Ginger Dressing and either miso soup or tom yum soup, as well as either pork egg rolls, crab rangoon. I went with the miso soup, because me so hungry (we had lunch at 1PM) along with a pork egg roll, and chicken with broccoli with white rice. The portions were as expected for a lunch special. The pork egg roll was pretty tasty.. I liked the skin it was wrapped in. The chicken and broccoli was decent. Salad and miso soup was A-OK. Unfortunately I was still pretty hungry afterwards, so if you're a beast like me, you may want to just opt for the main entree menu, and skip the lunch specials. Overall though, everything was A-OK, and the staff was nice and friendly. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the back, there are two single-person bathrooms. The bathrooms were rather small, and had a toilet and sink. There was a TV on the other side of the toilet, so you can poop and watch TV to your heart's content. The sink was one of those fancy looking free-standing bowls, which was cool. The bathroom I was in must have been directly near the furnace, and it was rather warm in there. Sit or squat? They double-delivered, took NO responsibility for it, and the Pad Thai was dry, the pork was old and the manager was confrontational. I actually called them and then drove my delivered food back to the restaurant so that the manager could see what I was trying to explain. She only wanted to defend and not listen. I would never have come here, if it wasn't for Yelp. One day, I was in the area and had a sudden craving for Thai food. I spotted Beyond Thai on Yelp and after reading the reviews, I felt convinced and decided to give this place a shot. From the outside, it looks like a "hole-in-the-wall" type of restaurant and I hesitated to go in at first. But, my Thai food cravings were too strong to just pass by. The restaurant was busy with customers, which gave me a sense of relief. I ordered a pad thai and after checking in through Yelp, we were able to get a free side of crab rangoons. Yay! The pad thai was absolutely delicious! It was a huge portion and was by far one of the best pad thais I've had. We ended up coming here for lunch and ordered the lunch specials, which was actually an amazing deal. Service was great both times. They really deserve a lot more attention then they probably get. Great place for typical thai food. My friend and I came here on a sunday night and though it didn't look too busy, service was slow but there was 1 waitress on duty. She seemed sorry about the slow service but she was so friendly we forgave her :) I got the red curry with brown rice which I thought tasted very good and it was not drowning in grease like other places' curries usually do. My friend got the pad see ew which tasted good as well. It's a great place if you're craving thai food but nothing amazing about the place. We were seated, and service was a little slow, but to be honest, I've kind of come to expect that at many Thai restaurants. I've been here twice now with my family and we love the food here! The food is no doubt super yummy and the amount of food you get is average for a sit-in Thai restaurant. My favorite items are the green curry, pad thai and lime chicken. Appetizers are okay - my favorite was the vegetable spring roll - everything else is just alright. There is definitely a funny smell when you first walk in but you get used to it after a few minutes - nothing to complain about. It's not a super fancy place but casual and good if you're looking for some good Thai food. I haven't had a enough authentic Thai food to know if it's that good but it's definitely good enough for me - and I have a pretty darn high standard for Asian food in general. I ordered the orange chicken with white rice and mango bubble tea. The orange chicken had good flavor, although it came with less sauce than I would have liked. I usually like it a little saucier so that the rice can soak up some of it. This wasn't a deal breaker though. But the real standout was the mango bubble tea. The Lime chicken tasted like breaded and deep fried chicken saturated with a lime pie filling. Excellent food at reasonable prices. The Curry dishes $8-12, are good choices as well as the Shrimp in Clay Pot$13. The Spring rolls are refreshing in taste and the Dumplings are wonderful. I found the Curry Puff pastry to be too dry on it's own, so I used the dumpling sauce to make it less pasty. The Salmon was dry and clearly over done and cut into bite sized pieces before it was put into the vegetables and sauce. Pad si yu was typical flavor profile for the dish. Expect overall a good meal and low prices. Do not expect spicy to be cooked into the dish even though it indicates a hot pepper on the menu. Chili sauce will be provided, but you have to ask. I don't care for the raw taste of chili paste, I prefer real peppers added to the cooking process. read more

For entrees we ordered Mongolian beef and lime chicken which were both just okay, I wouldn't order those again. Both entrees cake we white rice and we ordered chicken fried rice as well. The one waitress who was there had a sour face the whole time like everything you asked her was a chore. The price is great (7.50 for their lunch special) but the food was mediocre. The thai tea was overly sweet and basically was a glass of sugar, my pad thai was bland and missing something I could't put my finger on, the rest of our group had: Mongolian beef - too sweet, green curry - just ok. The crab rangoon appetizers were pretty horrendous, either the oil they fried it in was old or the wonton wrapper was stale because it lacked that specific crunch and tasted stale.
