Mixed review... First, Bicycle Thief features the most imaginative veggie dishes in the county. E.g., Nantes carrots in a hummus sauce, smoked cabbage. Pizza is very good, but a couple of other places in Nevada County offer better, and more exotic pizzas. Service is friendly and thorough. The physical ambience is high-class, with fine wood slab tables and plenty of wall art. But it is NOISY. The conversational din and recorded music were so intrusive as to inhibit conversation. We asked our accommodating server to please turn the music down. She did. Twice. But still, most of what we said to each other was, "What?" Despite the food's outstanding quality, the noise interfered with our evening so much that we probably won't return. read more

A cool restaurant with a name inspired by a cool movie, Bicycle Thief really stole my heart (sorry, I had to do it). I had the pleasure of eating too much delicious pizza last month including Delfina and Outta Sight (which is getting tons of hype) in SF, but the pizza that I just can't get out of my mind is the Hale Kale from Bicycle Thief. It doesn't hurt that the restaurant's ambience is also fun and inviting, and the portions are very generous. I normally think of Neapolitan style pizzas as being a bit smaller, but I'm not complaining. And I love that their menu is divided into white and red pies like Delfina. While I wish they offered a slightly more exciting veggie red pie option, I can't wait to try the Brooklyn and Nantes Carrots next time. read more

I loved the cleanliness and lightness of this place. Our waitress was fantastic. We had a lemon and pistachio pizza and a very delicious and unusual cabbage appetizer. I would recommend it. Great restaurant. The pizza was quite good and it was nice to see some items on the menu that you don't normally find around town. The decor is nice and I appreciate that they spent some money to do it right as opposed to moving in to a past restaurant location and putting some new paint on the walls and opening. Very good pizza and service! They have a variety of white and red sauce options. In addition there are a few salad and small bite options. The food comes out quickly. We are glad they're doing well. But the ambience offsets the culinary positives. It was crowded and extremely noisy on an early Thursday evening. We had to yell at each other and our server. If we stumble on a more quiet time there we will give it another shot. read more

If you haven't tried it yet get down here as quickly as you can, Bicycle Thief in Grass Valley. (Used to be Frank's Pizza) Seriously one of the best pizzas I've ever had in town. We started out with the Nantes Carrots, yogurt, carrot top, and marjoram pesto with hazelnuts. Then we moved to a special Capresse salad with fresh peaches. Not your usual pizza place. Eating here is an adventure that will have you wanting more. The pizza is top notch with many good selections of toppings and excellent crust, We started our meal with harissa roasted cauliflower. You'll have to taste it to believe how delicious it is. Pizza is light, chewy and crunchy, with delicious toppings. But who knew a pizza place could be so good at vegetable forward dishes? And small plates? Amazing flavors. Great service. We had a fantastic experience. Starting with our waiter...super friendly with an amazing memory as he rattled off the specials with such details we thought perhaps he was the chef. Needless to say the specials sounded too good to pass up (the couple next to us, apparently with the same experience indicating we were in for some serious yumminess). Salad and Pizza was so delicious. Would have to agree perhaps some of the best pizza in Grass Valley. A must try. And a shout out for the decor and music...super cool. I've been here probably 10 times now so that should tell you all you need to know. I'm a former Brooklynite (ugh, right) and this is my favorite pizza in GV/NC - plus the ambiance makes it a place you actually want to go out to - casual yet nice enough for date night or a fun dinner with friends. I ate here on a Saturday night with a friend. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table, but we waited at the bar and could have just eaten there if we had wanted to. We ordered one starter (the cabbage), one salad (the radicchio one), and one pizza (the slightly fancier version of the margarita), and everything was delicious with high quality ingredients. First I'd like start out but saying the name really turned me off. There is kinda a story behind it. The owner's favorite movie... Anyway the cheese bread was absolutely amazing and I might be back just for that, maybe, even though it was $16 and it's not what we ordered lol. We ordered the bread e bites but got cheese bread. An $11 dollar difference in price. But eh everyone makes mistakes. It would have been better if our server didn't confirm it was bread e bites knowing it wasn't after it was served to our table and I asked her if it was bread e bites. Maybe she is still learning the food? Or maybe she just lied. Either way it was so yummy. The meatballs were reasonable in price at $13 for 5 or 6 I believe and very good tasting. My favorite was the sauce. Im very picky about sauce and theirs is really really good. The ginger beer was also wonderful (Fentimans) probably the best Ive ever had. Full of flavor and not too sweet. The pizza got was basically a margarita type and I think over priced and just ok. A little underwhelming. One suggestion I would like to make is have a male and female bathroom. Not sure what wc (on the bathroom doors) means but clearly the 2 bathrooms they have are both genders. If thats the way you're gonna go at least provide seat covers as men in public bathrooms often pee on the seat. It's really annoying to go to a restaurant who does the both gender bathroom thing. Also, no changing station in bathroom and music not kid friendly so I say not really a great family place. We were taken care of by multiple people and I appreciate that. I give 4 stars because the cheese bread and sauce were very tasty. It would have been 3 otherwise. A bit pricey. $65 for 2 adults and a child. Might be back. read more

Its a mixed bag. The pizza is good but the selection is very limited. Never been to a pizza place where you couldn't build your own. The seating inside is a but cramped and uncomfortable. The prices are very high for pizza. So we may give it another go and just do take out. People I talk with either really like it or dont. read more

Wow! The food was FANTASTIC, service impeccable. The owners and the weight staff could have been nicer! The food was just top tier. I feel very fortunate to have such an amazing restaurant in Grass Valley. We had everything from their appetizer, salad, and their amazing pizza.
