Barely made it in before 730 to grab a pickle ball paddle. Ran into Enrique who told me to hurry up because they were closing and was the rudest person I've ever dealt with on a retail level. Not a fan of having the '$10 off a purchase of $50 or more' coupons, rejected! Not because of the Nike or UA brand names or being clearance priced...but due to falling into the 'some exclusions apply, see store for exclusions' group. The employees have been friendly and courteous during our prior visits. We have purchased quality running shoes for reasonable prices and remain satisfied with the products. However, the coupons wording 'see store for exclusions' disclaimer looms over purchasing decisions. Quite the broad scope of exclusionary reasons at your disposal Mr/Ms Big 5 Company. Price is crucial for many, and I guess ignoring the advertising is an approach to consider if you wish to avoid pricing let downs at their register. read more

The store personnel were very helpful - with both finding the item we needed and help loading it. We purchased a pro-fit hybrid exerciser - and the instructions tell you how to activate the display - and it has you sign up for a fitness program - free for 30 days but they want a credit card to activate membership. Long story short - after searching 15 minutes I found out all you had to do to start it - without a membership - was hold a button on the display for 30 sec. This was not in the instructions - so if you are directed to ifit to activate your machine try holding down the blue button for 30 seconds. We are in our 60s and not interested in a fitness program - and didn't want the trouble to cancel it. read more

I usually have great experiences at Big Five stores. This was my first time in this particular store. We had our 2 year old with us. After walking around the store for about a half an hour I was just about to purchase a punching bag when my daughter, who is potty training, said she needed to use the restroom. It is obvious that they do not have a public restroom but my wife asked anyway if our daughter could use a restroom. The associate said no because of company policy. What! I turned and clarified by restating that the company would not allow a 2 YEAR OLD use the restroom and again he said no and did not even bother to get a manager. So we immediately left the store without a purchase. After we left I called the store to speak to the manager on duty about the situation. Same response. Actually, he said it was policy because of shoplifters. Great people skills. Long story short, I may visit a Big Five in the distant future but NOT this one. MANAGEMENT-- teach your associates and managers to use discretion in their decision making process. Sure, someone MAY attempt to steal something, but you DEFINITELY lost a customer. BTW the vast majority of shoplifters will not ask a sales associate to escort them to the bathroom as the fact is that the item would need to already be concealed so why bother. read more

Bought a pair of Hi-tek "Water - Proof" boots for work in March of 2017. In August of the same year the soles became detached at least 50% from each boot. Using shoe glue I was able to get another couple of months of wear, but certainly not close to waterproof . Well I bought a different brand of "waterproof" boot from the same store. I guess I'll see how these go. When I questioned a sales associate as to how long a waterproof boot should last before it fails he said six months .I asked if that was their store policy he told me that's normal...of course I asked for that in writing and he couldn't do that. So Now onto the store manager at my request, Frank walked up to me and not with what I call a happy to hear what I had to say look before a word was even uttered. I already new that he would be no help. Now when I pay over a hundred dollars for a pair of waterproof boots. They should hold their weight, and the store manager should know something about the products he sells in his store. Well even tho I bought and walked out of his store with a different brand of waterproof boot, I'm not sure these will be much better. However I didn't purchase them based on anything Frank had to say. I can honestly say that Frank made minimal effort to even appease me with the description of what waterproof means. Instead Frank proceeded to tell me that I was rough on them. I wonder how he came to preclude that? Maybe because. The pair of boots on my feet appeared to look like 4 parts!! If they could only talk....trust me they looked like they could. Needless to say, I left there feeling as if Frank thought I was trying to get a free pair from Big 5 . my fault for walking in there without checking the 2 star rating Frank's store already had. Will not make that mistake again, and I strongly suggest that anyone do the same. avoid this Big 5! read more

This store is fantastic!!! The new Sports Authority with an all star crew behind the counter. Frank was of tremendous help when I was curious about camouflage products. RJ and Matt didn't quite embody the company but were helpful nonetheless. Old associate Everett was very knowledgeable on Nike headbands. read more

Very disappointed with this store. I had a 10.00 off purchases over 30.00 and I read the small print on the bottom of the coupon Basically it said the offer excludes all Nike, Under Armour Apparel, Gift Cards and Licenses. No where on the coupon does it state that cannot be used on sale or clearance items. Mike the store manager who was cashier checking me out stated that he could not accept the coupon because I was purchasing clearance shoes. I had him read the coupon and he also could not locate where clearance sales items were excluded. He would not accept the coupon and I went ahead and purchased the shoes. I will not be visiting Big 5 store for a long time. I feel like the coupon is a bait and switch. Get you into the store however will not honor the coupon for whatever reason. I was not buying Nike or Under Armour shoes or apparel. read more

I bought a pair of court shoes on sale which I am quite pleased, but this is not why I'm writing the review for this location. I bought a camping solar shower at a Big 5 in Payson, AZ. When I got down to Mesa and tried it out it leaked, so I took it into this Big 5. I was referred to the manager who exchanged it for a new one, let my transfer the water from the damaged one to test it out, and I was one my way in under 5 minutes. No hassle. I appreciate good customer service and think he and this store deserves an attaboy. read more

Just can't believe these people. Needed an item that their website said was in limited supply in this store and I should call ahead to ascertain it would be in stock. On a Friday, during their business hours, called for 2 hour straight, every 5 minutes. Continuous message that the line was busy. They have ONE line and they apparently keep it off the hook? The item I wanted is fairly pricey and I will now buy it elsewhere. This is not the way to make customers happy or bring people into the store. Very frustrating experience, especially since I have patronized this store more than once in the past. read more

I was returning a pedometer that I had bought earlier that day at The Big 5 Sporting Goods, I couldn't program the pedometer with a friend so we thought it was damaged, so I took it back to the store that night. There was a new Mg. on duty now the Mg. on the am shift was very helpful but when I took it back that night, the night Mg. (Chris) was on duty. he was the most arrogant person. I had asked if he could help me pick out another pedometer out that would be user friendly and count the calories, he tells me that the one I have is the only one that counts calories, so i looked at the variety of the ones they have and found all of them counted calories all but 2 so I pointed to them and said all of these count calories, well he didn't want nothing to do with helping me so I turned to the associate at the register asking if he would be able to help me and . so we chose one out of many that count calories and he was helping me program it during this time the Mg. just walked around the store and then he calls the associate to come to the shoe dept. So that takes him away from me to which the Mg. could of taken care of whatever was needed in shoes. Mind you there was not a customer in the store, just me. now if the Mg. would have been nice i would of probably bought a tread mill from the store but not now. I will go to a sporting store with better customer service . I will not step foot in that store again. There was many more snide remarks he made during this whole ordeal but I feel this was enough to convince anyone not to go to this store. read more
