When I bought a pellet gun, the cashier did not give me the sale price of $99. I paid $129.99. I realized later that he didn't give me the sale so I drove all the way back a few days later and "Robert" was working. He seemed inconvenienced when I came to the counter because he was talking to his friend about the football games over the weekend. He did not make eye contact with me at all. The first thing he says to me while looking at the register was " Find everything you're looking for?". I asked him how are you and he gave me the most sinister look I have ever received. He did not make eye contact with me again until I asked him if he was the manager and he said that he is the "2nd highest in charge". It's not my fault that you hate your job and hate your life. No need to take it out on your customers. I will be sure to let everyone know about this horrible experience and I will never come here again. read more

Came in to buy ammo, I'm under 21 so I can't buy for a pistol of course, but I have an SIG MPX PCC and they won't sell me ammo for it because it's 9mm. The funniest part is they sold me .22 LR for my pistol. Make it make sense. read more

About a week and a half ago I bought an EZup at the Big 5 in Payson, AZ, and unfortunately it didn't last through the weekend. One of the feet broke off. I had been extra careful about TRYING to store the receipt because some brands are kind of frail, but when it came down to it I couldn't find it. I took the broken unit in to the Big 5 in Mesa at Gilbert and Southern to exchange it. The manager, name of Kaya, said she couldn't refund, exchange or give me store credit without the receipt. I said "Then you're the only retailer I know that is that uncooperative." She did say if I'd bought the unit at that store she could look it up by my debit card purchase but since I bought it in Payson she couldn't help me. I suggested I could call the Payson store and have them look it up, but she said no that wouldn't work because they had to scan my card with their machine and couldn't just type the info in, so I'd have to drive back up to Payson to get my exchange or refund. I commented that she seemed to find a roadblock for any solution we tried to come up with, but I was gonna call the Payson store anyway. The manager at that store said of course she could exchange it for me without a receipt, and for good measure their district manager was there at that time and OKed the whole thing. Got off the phone and Kaya said she'd issue me a store credit after I looked and found they did not have that model in stock for an exchange. But she knocked off $30.00 from my credit because she said that model had been on sale at SOME point in the year. I told her I wasn't pleased with that and I'd be posting my displeasure online when I got home. She got really flustered and started whining that I was blaming her and being mean to her. I clarified that I had specifically said I didn't like that CORPORATE POLICY so I wasn't blaming her at all but she insisted I was blaming her. I said "No I'm not. I'm just commenting and not being mean or using foul language or raising my voice or anything like that." About that time this rather large, husky hulk of a teenage employee came up to me and said "We'll we don't need your comments!" I couldn't believe the mouth on the kid and I told him "I don't care what you need. I'll comment whenever and wherever I want." I told Kaya "Somebody needs some remedial manager training." and she blubbered again that I was being mean to her. I repeated that she needed more training and left the store. Very bad management at this store Big 5! read more

We have sons that are involved in various sports, so we are here often. I subscribed to their email specials, so I always have a coupon with me when I shop there. They have amazing special deals on shoes from time to time. Staff is always helpful, especially the manager. I would give it five stars, but many times there have been inventory issues and they don't have what I need in the right size. read more

This was a great experience at this store. Give it up for Carlos! My wife and I arrived at the store looking for comfortable shoes to work in. After practically grilling the guy about what type of shoe he thought would be best, Carlos showed mega knowledge. My wife tried on several pair much to her chagrin. But wait! Carlos says "1 last pair! Im sure you'd like these." He brought out a pair that ended up fitting exactly how my wife wanted and they had us walking out with an extra spring in our step. I Went to this store to see if they had any work boots & they had many ,that would work for me at a better price then the bigger work boot stores. Was pleasantly greeted when I came in and was directed to rear of store were Carlos was very helpful with finding me a good boot that was priced right for what I had to spend, the boots I bought were priced in other stores much higher. When I went to pay , young lady Madison or mason ? Who was very nice made sure boots were correct size in box and made the exchange go well with the 10% off sale coupon . Would definitely recommend this store. ps , just had the boots on for few hours and they feel great :)on my aching feet that needed much help since I wearing my old boots for way to long :( read more

Big 5 is a big box store which means pricing of products can be higher than normal. I do find shoes here every once in a while a a great price. Check the clearance items and you may be surprised. Customer service is average at best if you ask for some help. The associates typically do not ask you if you need help. Best buys in the store when clearance areas have shoes, knifes, watches and sun glasses. I did find a ok deal on flip flops and quick shades. read more

My boyfriend and I came into buy running shoes after getting our gym bag stolen out of the trunk of a returned rental car. Since we didn't have the money to invest the $150/pair we had with the pilfered sets, we decided to hit up Big 5. Since I am a fairly severe over-pronator, I pretty much resigned myself to having to buy a cheap pair of New Balances and throw some orthotics in to make them work for me. When I saw that this Big 5 carried the New Balance 850, a shoe with the most amount of stride correction with a fairly low weight, I was pretty excited. The $115 price tag... not so much. While chatting with the salesperson, we told our story about our missing shoes and how they had only been weeks old. Also, that we couldn't afford to spend over $100 each on more running shoes. The gentleman gave his manager a call and they discounted my shoes down to $60! Really wonderful people and I couldn't be happier with my new running shoes. read more

It's a Big 5, so prices are the same...so basically this rating is almost strictly based on the staff, the few times that I have been here I have noticed that none of the employees are going to bust thier behind coming up to you and ask to see what you type of help you need, but if you ask you will get an answer, and the 1000 mile stare, no frills...kind of annoying but it is obvious the personality of the staff is a reflection of the management. Just got some sunglasses here. Seems like the best place for some inexpensive glasses that are polarized. Whenever they have sales the prices are slashed like crazy. The glasses I got this time retail $135, purchased at $38. Polarized glass lenses, not polycarbonate. The service here was pretty crappy at first because it is so understaffed, but once a girl got off a lunch break the experience was good. I will keep coming here for sunglasses as long as these crazy prices keep happening. read more

The men working in the back of the store by the shoes were very helpful in assisting us with finding the right shoes we were looking for. When it was time to check out we waited at the counter for 5/10 minutes only to not be greeted but to instead be looked at with a very mean face by employee "Sadie". Where she also proceeded to throw what she had in her hands on the counter. Very rude and slow throughout the checkout process, showed no interest in being at work. Crowded store. Three people including myself asked for assistance the person at the cash register simply pointed. Nothing in any size for children's athletic shoes except for the $60 shoes for a five-year-old soccer player. Shoe salesman was nice and agreed that he never has anything in the proper size when a customer needs it. read more

Management is good. What I really liked was the young man that helped me in footwear. Carlos. He would be helping me and like 3 other customers and would chat with us and in some way include all of us so he wouldn't ignore or put the rest of the customers aside.
