I knew from Yelp to get on the waiting list from the app, so when we dined, we waited only ten minutes in person. Florence SHUTS DOWN on Sundays, and Big Bad Breakfast is open, so we made our brunch stop. Big Bad Breakfast is cute with lots of decor, things to look at, and cute chalkboard space over the booth area for kids to play. Our food was pretty good, although the oysters in my oyster Caesar salad were a little cold and rather tough. The manager was kind enough to take $5 off my salad. My husband's pancakes were great, as was his bacon. The sausage had a sweet finish to it which was unexpected. My biscuit which was $2 was worth $10 and I could not even finish it! We will be back, though I have noted that liquor sales don't start until noon on Sundays so we would sleep in before we came! read more

When I grade, I am very strict about how you get reviewed. 5 stars on Yelp is perfect, so, do get 5 stars you must be perfect! BBB was by no means perfect, but when I think back on the whole experience it was definitely above average. Truly 4 stars, and no more, but a fun time. Honestly a huge fan of the menu here. They have a special cold brew they make themselves, the meat is all from a local butcher and they make it unique by adding flavors or cooking it a certain way, there is enough options for everyone, though the veggie options are limited, and the biscuits are homemade and awesome! I went pretty hard, ordered the Yard Work skillet with toast, and 3 sides of meat, the bacon, chicken sausage, and sausage patty. The skillet was a let down honestly. Way too small IMO, and flavor not great. Needed salt BADLY. But the meats are something to write home about. Huge success. Every meat was different and hella good! The chicken sausage especially. The servers were all so friendly, and are not afraid to chat it up with you a bit. Not too hovering, but very attentive. The kitchen staff is nice, just good southern hospitality here. Overall, while not perfect, as a breakfast spot I would absolutely go back. They have a line almost all the time, but allow you to check in online so you can just arrive and sit if you time it right! Stopped in for a late breakfast/early lunch and, well, it was okay. Don't even think about Covid protocols here as there are none, and the restaurant was...well...dirty. Like, crumbs on all the seats and I don't think my spoon had been through the dishwasher icky. Look, they're understaffed. I get it. It's not the staff's fault, and I'm sure management is doing all they can. However, I was seriously disappointed at the straight out of the bag fries (bring back the house cut ones, guys!) and my biscuit was partially burnt which is kind of odd...like, how do you PARTIALLY burn a biscuit in an oven? Regardless, I wasn't mad at it but I wasn't in love. With that said, BBB is an institution and worth visiting. Not only was the food delicious and generous in the serving amount, every employee I saw was so attentive to making sure the customers were well taken care of and the tables were cleaned up as soon as possible. I was so impressed with our server Peggy and seeing the other employees that I had to stop the manager and let her know what a great staff she had. This is my favorite restaurant in downtown Florence. When I think of brunch, BBB is the first option. I recommend this place 100%! The food is amazing, their coffee is delicious (they serve the royal cup coffee). My favorite option is the big bad breakfast plate! I always go with chocolate chip pancakes and crispy hash cake! We visited Big Bad Breakfast located in the Historic Strickland Hotel for Fathers Day 2021. It was a good wait but it's a holiday and expected. We shopped in the gift shop on premises while we waited. It has cute items there too. Our food was delicious! The Bruleed grapefruit was a nice new taste. The tables were full but our wait for our food was no longer than at any other place on a holiday Sunday. The music was a nice addition to the atmosphere of the restaurant. I usually don't enjoy going out to breakfast, because I can make most breakfast items fairly easily and cheaply, and it doesn't seem worth the money and effort. BBB is an exception. We ate here twice while visiting Florence, and are not sorry. Both days I had the avocado "toast". When I've ordered this dish elsewhere, I usually get one, maybe two, small slices of toast with a bit of smashed avocado on top, perhaps a splash of spicy oil. BBB's version is thickly sliced, perfectly toasted whole grain bread, piled with ripe smashed avocado, layered thickly with arugula, sprinkled with a tangy, lemony dressing, and then dressed with an excellent pico de gallo. So filling, I could hardly finish. My husband had the French toast, and loved it, but admitted it was a bit rich--beware. Don't miss out. read more

Found this place on Yelp and used the Wait List feature to put our party on the list, and it's a good thing. The place was busy on a beautiful Saturday morning. Walking in, you can tell this place has a vibe. The restaurant looks great. The service was top notch. I had the chicken and waffles and I'm not sure how it could have been better. My wife had the pancakes with country ham. Her words, "The pancakes are very buttery." Cooking pancakes with extra butter is worth a star by itself. The food here is always amazing. I have never been displeased with my breakfast. But this trip today has been extremely disappointing as far as the service. We went for my birthday lunch, my Aunt who has debilitating anxiety came with us and brought along her service dog. She was treated very rudely by the staff including the manager. And everything has taken way longer to come to the table than it should. They were not busy and looked to have a decent amount of staff. My one and ONLY time there was so anti climatic. I was expecting so much and received so little, the meals were small "according to my mother" When you order something called The Big Bad Breakfast you expect a huge amount of food she got a thin little piece of ham and whatever else came with it, eggs and whatever. But my biggest fault with them was that we were sitting right across from where the food is picked up and I watched the food be picked up and get switched out there were a couple orders of french toast and the newest was getting taken away and the oldest just got pushed to the side. I told my mom I'm watching them to make sure they don't bring that to me because we sat there waiting around 10-15 minutes it felt like. When they finally got my mom's order up I watched them take that old plate and pile some extra bacon on it and send it right off with my mom's plate! I was livid! I watched the waiter come over and I said oh no you don't! I told him her plate was fine but I was not accepting that plate that I had stared at for all that time! He tried to play it off, but I told him I have been literally sitting here staring at that plate that was there BEFORE they took my order! I told him I refuse that and if you want you can just keep it and I won't eat at all. They decided to bring the manager out and I explained that I had been staring at that plate since I sat down newer versions would come and go and when my mom's order was ready I got the old one. I said for as much as you charge I expect fresh food not heating lamp hide aways. She went back and made my food again they brought out some syrup and a couple slices of strawberries and a small butter thing, you know the little metal ones. I asked for whipped cream and apparently they take that to heart because it turns out the butter was the whipped cream LOL it was whipped stiff so I thought it was butter, it was good just not nearly enough. I used the syrup and the half and half they brought for mom's coffee. If you get to the point you are using the half and half from coffee then you know they don't give you near enough stuff to put on your french toast, it had a sort of bitter taste like I think they used wheat toast or something. The whipped cream was actually kinda good, even the half and half was ok to dunk the toast in, since I didn't have much whipped cream. The second plate was indeed fresh and the toast was ok, fresh and crisp with a slight bitter aftertaste like the bread they used was wheat or something. The other plate had a lot more bacon on it , I think they were trying to make up for the fact it was old. However when I refused that plate the fresh one came out with only a few slices on it. By that time I was SO OVER the big BAD breakfast! I don't plan on going back my mom definitely doesn't. She was not happy with her meal and it came out hot and fresh. LOL I gave 3 stars because I hated to give them such a brutally honest review and the lady that took my order was nice and had nothing to do with bringing the old food to me, it was very busy so apparently a lot of people go for pretentious restaurants.
