Great mom and pop BBQ joint! It's in a little strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but I think it's worth a stop. The inside is sparsely decorated but clean and the staff is super friendly. I got the Howling Sample Platter which includes smoked chicken, ribs, and pulled pork. It also comes with two sides (I picked fried cabbage and mac & cheese), and cornbread. I loved every bite! The fried cabbage and mac & cheese were packed with soul food goodness. Recently my work started scheduling food trucks once a week. This week was Big Bad W Pit BBQ. I have never had this particular BBQ and was looking forward to trying it out. I was not disappointed. first, the customer care was excellent. it was raining and rather than have me lower my umbrella to order the guy came out and stood in the rain to take it. I ordered the short rib meal. The rebs were excellent. Now to talk about the sides. beans and slaw. MostBBQ places seem to use canned beans they fancy up. Not sure if BBW dows this but they were perfect a little heat, not too sweet. Best BBQ beans I have ever had. The Slaw-like wise was just the right amounts of seasoning and flavor nothing over the top and not bland. The staff was excellent. In Stafford we suffer from average pizza and average BBQ, and that's all this was, not much more than that. The brisket wasn't the best, wasn't the worst I've ever had. Nothing extraordinary as far as sides went. Staff is nice, courteous. If you want to support "local", I'd go here over the chain BBQ place in North Stafford. read more

You know the saying that goes, people don't remember what you did, but they remember how you make them feel? Well this gave me so many feelings, in so many ways. First, obviously, the food is amazing! There's a little bit of everything in terms of BBQ from pulled meats to ribs and wings. We got the regular pork ribs and the beef ribs and were BLOWN AWAY by how flavorful and well cooked the meat were. Most BBQ places hide underneath thick sauces and use them as a crutch. Not this place. I probably could have eaten the meat without any sauce, the selection of four different BBQ sauces were welcomed though to complement the smoky dry rub on my pork ribs. The beef ribs were unlike anything I've been before, huge hunks of meat that were fall off the bone. Definitely something unique and I hope they keep it on the menu. Second, the sides were equally good. We got the greens, green beans, Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and fried cabbage and everything had that delicious taste only time and a well-seasoned hand can get just right. And lastly, the people there were just SO NICE! The owner came out to talk to us and was happy to let us try items before we ordered. I have been telling all my friends about this place. I wanted to wait to review this spot until I tried enough menu items. I've tried enough to give the food 4 stars and an additional star for their service and outstanding service. Whenever I go there, I'm greeted promptly and warmly. Today, during this COVID-19 epidemic, I craved bbq. I ordered 1/2 slab of ribs and a pulled pork sandwich. ALL WERE DELICIOUS!!! I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. I finally did and I really wanted to like this place. They had several awards on the wall from past bbq competitions. Long time Big Bad W customer, while being understanding of COVID, this place isn't nearly what it was a year ago. The customer service has went down hill, the timeliness is non existent. I was told the order would be ready in 30 minutes, showed up 10 minutes past the time it was supposed to be ready to wait another 30 minutes for my food to be bagged. Hidden gem in Stafford where chain restaurants are everywhere. Yummy home cooked BBQ with EXCELLENT sauces! We had the pulled pork sandwich and it was juicy and super flavorful. Generous portion- we ended up splitting 1 along with baby back rib platter. The ribs were SO Good- meat was super tender and no sauce needed for us! Fries were good- we were missing coleslaw and some sauces but with so much food we didn't mind. We also tried the Mac and cheese, corn bread muffins and brisket sandwich. Brisket was flavorful and we would definitely order it all again. We loved the mustard BBQ sauce- it's a honey mustard sauce with a kick and the regular BBQ was also delicious. So I decided to visit this place today based on so many positive Yelp reviews. Well it wasn't the worse experience I had but it wasn't the greatest. So I walked and noticed immediately it was clean nothing fancy but clean. I stood there for at least a good two minutes before I was acknowledged. On to the food. So I ordered the Howling Sampler, which comes with 2 nice sized ribs, 2 smoked wings, 1/4 pound of pulled pork and two sides and your choice of bread. For my sides I choose the collard greens, red beans and rice and the cornbread as my bread of choice. Another lady that worked there suggestedI try some sauce to go with my meal. She was nice. The greens were plain nothing fancy, the red beans and rice were ok just needed a little salt. The pulled pork was my favorite, lots of flavor and very juicy. The chicken was ok, had a smoky test and was seasoned. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try the ribs because my boyfriend had eaten them before I could. Go figure. Didn't eat the cornbread muffin because it had mold on it. Clearly it wasn't baked today or within the last two days. Needless to say I won't be trying this place again. My husband and I gave this place a try on a Saturday evening. We ordered delivery via Yelp (Eat24). Very easy process. They were out of a couple of things dessert wise, so we got a call and substituted our original choices with no problem. The lady who called was nice and I joked with her about being out of all the good stuff. Delivery went well. The food arrived within an hour. Maybe 40-45 min or so. They use a big warming bag and the food was kept in the bag upon delivery. Now I have to say me and my husband are particular folks when it comes to our BBQ. I'd seen this place on yelp and even bookmarked it but was still skeptical about trying it. I just didn't want to waste my money on bad food. But my husband said let's give it a shot and we're happy to say it worked out. We both ordered the Howling Sampler plates so we could try a little of everything, and each had a couple of desserts. What can I say, I love homemade desserts and was in a mood to pig out. I'm looking forward to trying the desserts they were out of, so I will be ordering earlier next time! On my sampler, I had the potato salad and fried cabbage sides. If anyone from the south knows, good potato salad is a fighting point at most cookouts. I'm used to one with more mustard, but I wasn't disappointed with this lighter version. It had a nice flavor and I didn't feel the need to add anything to it. You could add some mustard to it if you wanted and it would still be really good. The cabbage I liked a lot. My only critique is I wanted more seasoning (just a smidge) and I really wished they'd used some of their own smoked pork or smoked sausage instead of just putting bacon in it. I think the flavor profile would be much better and it probably wouldn't taste like it's underseasoned. Still, it was good and tender. Hubby's said the same about his Red Beans and Mac n Cheese sides...he wanted a tad more seasoning. But we both agreed that it's probably necessary to do this for the masses. Again, you can add a lil extra at home and it would be perfect. On the dessert front, we were both pretty happy. The chocolate cake tasted like it may have been in the oven a couple min too long b/c it was a little dry, but it tasted really good and I loved the frosting. The lemon pound cake was perfection. Super moist and super lemony just like I like it. My husband loved the blackberry cobbler. He said it reminded him of his grandmothers and you know that's a good thing. He's not a super fan of apple pie (it was the substitute) but he did say it was good. The meats were tender and smoky and nicely seasoned. The BBQ sauce we got on the side was the sweet style, which I like. The ribs had plenty of meat and pulled nicely off the bone. The pulled pork they do NC style with the vinegar. I'm not a super fan of it, but my husband loves it since he's from NC, so he liked it a lot. So I can say for sure we'll definitely be ordering again. read more
