Everyone that works here is so nice and seems like one big family! We met the woman who owns it and she went over the whole menu with us. She told us about the history of the restaurant when we asked etc. We got two of the two meat plates which each come with two sides. The presentation was beautiful! All of the meats were very juicy. I was only disappointed with the sides other than the beans honestly. Macaroni, green beans & cabbage were cooked to perfect textures/consistencies however lacked flavor and seasonings. I'm always careful when I critique these things as everyone seasons differently than maybe we do at home making bbq or southern food but these sides were just plain. Other than that the experience was great!!!! Perfect amount of food for two of us to share and try everything! Oh and the two in house bbq sauce options were really good! Took my parents here so they could try Texas BBQ and it was just okay. The restaurant has plenty of space to park as well as seating so there were no issues in regards to that. We ordered two 2 meat plates that consisted of brisket, sausage, and pork ribs. For the sides we got coleslaw, street corn, smoked mac/cheese, and baked beans. The brisket had a nice smokey flavor but was definitely on the dry side. As for the pork ribs, the seasoning was good but the meat was quite tough/dry. The best one was probably the sausage with a nice snappy casing. The sides were also just okay- the beans were my favorite out of the four. Service here is good though! The person who took our order was friendly and I believe the owner came by our table to check in on us and he was very welcoming. Looks as if it would be your average barbecue place, however that was not the case! This place quite literally stole my heart. The brisket melt got better with every bite and I still cannot stop thinking about it. When it comes to my sides it is usually hard to please me especially with okra, but truly a 10 out of 10 for everything on my tray. This has been the second time I've been here and have to say, this is the better BBQ places around. Food: I had there pork ribs, sausage, street corn, and Mac n cheese. Their pork ribs were tender and the meat was soft enough to eat off the bone! It was good with their BBQ sauce and their honey mustard sauce was a tad sweet, but was still tasty. The sausage wasn't bad either. The street corn was pretty good, but the kernels were a little over done, but I still ate it all. The Mac n cheese had a really nice sauce to it and the shells captured a lot of the gooey goodness of the sauce! It was not Velveeta, that's for sure. Overall, very nice hidden gem for BBQ! I was the first customer for the day @10:45 AM. I was greeted was a warm welcome from Abel and his wife. His wife broke down the menu for me with the new items they just added, the brisket sandwich in Texas toast and the tacos. I wanted to try multiple things so I got the 3 meat plate $17.95 of brisket, ribs, and homemade sausage. I chose a seat near the beverage station and within 5 minutes the food came out! Presentation was on point! Everything looked wonderful. The ribs were cooked just right! It was tender and still had some chew to it. It takes a keen eye to pull the ribs out at the right time! Most places will just cook the ribs low and slow for a long time where they fall off the bone and have no texture and just disintegrate in your mouth like baby food. Big Bertha, you've nailed the ribs! The brisket was seasoned well. I was given more lean cut than fatty, which to my pleasant surprise it was moist! I never ask for lean cuts because 9/10 times it's too dry, however this was perfect! The homemade sausage did not WOW me. However, it was lean which I appreciated since most sausage are extremely fatty. There were two types of BBQ sauce. I preferred the mustard based one. Abel and his wife has been living out Abel's dream of having a restaurant! I love it! Abel has been cooking in the Houston rodeo cook off for the last 27 years! Big Bertha's is clearly one of the better barbecue joints in northwest Harris County. They offer some good barbecue at a fairly reasonable price. Every day around noon the place is crowded with working folks having their lunch to the strains of '80s country music tunes. I recently had the brisket sandwich, and there were some good things about it and some things that could have been a bit better. I think the best thing about the sandwich is the bun. It is a toasted brioche bun that is so soft and moist that it can only make a sandwich better. I got my sandwich with moist brisket, and I kind of regret that. They offer it with a combination of moist and lean meat, and I think the lean meat would have given more of that smoky flavor. I also thought that the bark on the brisket (at least the portion that I got) was a little lacking. I like that they offer both a sweet and a tangy barbecue. I had the tangy, and it was pretty good. I think they are giving a quarter pound of brisket on the sandwich, which is okay. But I think other places are giving a bit more meat than that, from what I have seen. The potato salad was okay. It was the smoother type of mustard potato salad, and I prefer the chunkier kind. But still, good flavor. The price for sandwich, potato salad and tea was $20, which is pretty standard at most bbq places. read more

This restaurant opened about a month or so ago on Hwy. 529. Yelp location is accurate. It has outdoor patio seating along with indoor seating too. You order at the counter from the large menu board showing all of the meats and sides they have to offer. Their serving times are listed from 10:30 a.m. M-F until they sell out. There is plenty of parking space next to the restaurant. I have driven by several times in the late afternoon and they appeared closed so lunchtime is your best chance to dine here. On my first visit, I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich (moist) ($8.95) with a side order of baked beans ($2.75) and a soft drink ($2.50). With tax it was about $15. The food came out in about 5 minutes. The meat was fatty and very good in taste as it was tender with a slight smoke flavor. The dark colored baked beans were also very good with a rich bbq taste. My only complaint about the beans is that I would have liked a larger serving. 4 ounces of those beans just wasn't enough! About a week later, I came back to try their turkey meat plate that comes with two sides for $12.90. This time I chose the smoked mac n cheese and potato salad. The turkey was juicy with a nice smoky flavor. I think I would also like it on a sandwich. The mac n cheese had plenty of smoke in it and was delish. The potato salad was also very good. A common theme here is that their sides are very good in my opinion. My faves are the beans and mac n cheese. I believe my experiences warrant a 4 score. This is such a cute place! The owner was super friendly and checked on us a couple of times to ask us if everything is good and if we needed anything . Let's talk about the food . I ordered big bertha's baked potato and it was super delicious and a decent size . The protein I added onto my baked potato was brisket , and let me tell you it was bursting with flavor . What I also liked about it that the spices were NOT overpowering. You can taste the spices but it doesn't kill away your tastebuds that you don't feel the taste of the meat. My husband ordered half a pound of brisket , quarter of a pound of Turkey , and some Mac and cheese . He said the brisket was perfection , juicy , flavorful and just perfect . Not much to look at from the outside, but solid BBQ inside. Layout is modest, nothing too fancy. Order at the counter and then find a seat. Staff bring your meal out once everything is ready. Pickles, peppers and onions conveniently next to drinnk station. Tables have 2 different bbq sauces on them to go with a drippings style sauce that came with the meal. Had the 3 meat plate consisting of lean brisket, sausage and turkey with baked beans and smoked mac-n-cheese. Total with a drink was $20 which is reasonable given the amount of food that comes out. Brisket was tender and moist, not too dry with a nice flavor from the rub. The sausage was solid, a little under seasoned for my personal taste but paired well with the sauces. Turkey was fall apart tender, again a little under seasoned for my personal taste but very good alone or with the sauces. Sides were very good, subtle hint of smoke in the Mac with good texture and flavor. Bean had a good bbq flavor and sweetness to them. All in all good bbq and value for what you got.
