We had a wonderful time at Big Bowl Ridgedale. It was pretty busy inside but the service was awesome the entire time. One of the members of our group has celiac and they were very competent and knowledgeable about what they could and couldn't eat. I ate the chicken satays ($14.25), egg roll ($12.25), and yellow curry ($19.50). Each I would absolutely recommend. The yellow curry left me absolutely filled and with plenty to spare. Have been going to big bowl for many years now. Used to hit up the Rosedale mall location but that unfortunately closed. This is a nice location. The service was super friendly from our host to our server which always makes the experience more pleasant. We got multiple entrees including 7 flavor chicken & sesame chicken. And most importantly we got our favorite ginger mint hot tea. The food came in quick and piping hot. read more

You can't go wrong with any order here. I love the beef entrees the most. I ordered the salmon for the 1st time today & it was delish! It tasted so fresh & perfectly cooked in teriyaki sauce, comes with caramelized green onions, & side of their long green beans. The service is always very good everytime I come here. I normally get the chow fun noodles. The server didn't recommend that with the salmon dish since the noodles would come out plain like a side of white rice so I stuck with the plain rice like she said & it was perfection. They have fresh crushed Thai chili peppers & those are super spicy I always like to ask for that. The interior is always busy packed to the max. Great little break from the shopping mall. read more

We were famished coming into Big Bowl and left full with leftovers. We split the Szechuan Green Beans as an appetizer which was the right spice level for us and a larger portion than expected. In my opinion, they could've been cooked a bit longer but that was a personal preference. Unfortunately, the pan fried noodles in our entree came out undercooked and crunchy in the middle. However, they were remade and the flavors hit the spot. Between the textures and the umami flavor profile, we were definitely satisfied. Big Bowl is a chain Asian Fusion restaurant. It has been around for a long time and I have been going there for a few years. Hadn't been there in a while so stopped by their for lunch the other day. One of my go to and favorite things is the hot pepper chicken noodles. And I always get that when I go. The noodles are good well, the texture is great with the crunchy vegetable and onions and has a good amount of heat with the peppers. It is a good meal with and satisfying with a quantity that's enough to fill you up. I normally pair that up with their house made ginger ale. This time it was pomegranate flavored. It's fresh, tasty and refreshing drink and goes well with the dish. The restaurant is attached to the Ridgedale mall, has a clean environment and the decor is what you would expect from a chain restaurant. Decent service and even though the prices have gone up, it's in line with other restaurants of this type. Quick and filling meal at a decent price. Will keep coming here. read more

Decided to bring the family out the night before T-Day. So did a lot of folks. Place was full. Started out with 2 of our favs....Szechuan green beans and satays. Beans were generous, delicious, but had only minimal heat. Great peanut sauce with the satays. Dinners included Pad Thai, Kung Pao, Panang Curry, and the stir fry bar, which has reappeared since being shut down for Covid. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Portions were HUGE. Think the restaurant is trying a new concept: bump the prices AND the portions and have folks order entrees for sharing. We all brought home nearly as much as we ate. Our server was a little aggressive is her mannerisms. She quite possibly was just overwhelmed. Either way, service is always shaky at this location is our experience. Been coming here for years for girlfriend lunch and shopping dates. Overall it's a solid place for Chinese/thai basics. It also has some creative cocktails with a nice sized bar area to dine and drink. Service is solid. Today we ate at the bar area, they have high tops and 3 booths. Overall the restaurant is a good size! It's been a while since I've eaten here and the menu is updated with lunch bowl options. Comes with a choice of soup or salad. Overall good deal! We ordered the Chinese chicken salad and the kung pao chicken with brown rice. We felt the kung pao was too heavy on the sauce which made it salty. Next time I would order lighter sauce. I was scanning through the photos posted in Yelp and came across a dish that looked good so I decided I wanted this. We arrived and we were seated immediately. Our server came to get our orders and when it was my turn I showed her the photo because I didn't see it in the menu. She left to ask the kitchen if it was available. Was going to give this place 3 stars initially, then the stomach aches, headaches, etc. set in and now the review is 1 star. The server was great, food came out on time. The place looked nice, however we ordered firecracker chicken and szechuan beef. I received about 3 pieces of chicken and a lot of cauliflower. 50% of my place was also brown rice. Partner's beef was chewy and once again, his place was 50% rice. Finally, we could already taste that the food wasn't fresh as it tasted similar to a lean cuisine meal, but I haven't gotten sick from lean cuisine. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. 3.5/5 stars: one of my friends had a gift card so we decided to do a dinner here on a Friday night! We made a reservation and were so glad we did because it was packed! Super busy and without a reservation it would have been a long wait. Luckily we got seated within 10 mins of our reservation. Our server was super nice and gave us drink recommendations when we were stuck on what to order. 4 of us decided to split a pitcher of the seasonal passion fruit sangria, super refreshing and the perfect size to split between 4 people! For food, I ordered the beef and broccoli with fried rice. It was yummy, nothing special, but still good. It had a bit more sauce than I usually prefer and this overwhelmed the rest of the dish a little bit. We also split some chicken dumplings and they were great! Overall, this location is great for a reliable and easy dinner spot! The food isn't amazing but it is still good, and the sangria never disappoints. I haven't found an entree on the menu that I love and would re-order yet, hence the 3 stars, but it is still a fun casual chain spot to visit. Pro tip: wear layers! A few Saturdays ago, I had spent a few hours at Ridgedale Center shopping and sipping on bubble tea. I was ready for dinner. Still walking around the mall, I found Big Bowl. I remember when this restaurant first opened. I was living in Rochester at the time and always wanted to visit. I never managed to until this visit. I walked into the restaurant. It was starting to get busy for dinner. I had a male staff member greet me and led me to a comfy booth near the bar. I got Gwen as my server. She was delightful and nice. I started with a pomegranate white sangria. I also got some water because shopping is a workout for both my credit card and me. My sangria was refreshing. The pomegranate flavour and white wine were subtle. There was more ice in it than I would have liked, which likely reduced the flavour punch that would have made this drink better. I went ahead and got a Diet Coke. Yes, I was thirsty. You get lots of ice in all your drinks here. The Diet Coke hit the spot. There was a large abacus to my left. It was cool. I had an abacus as a kid and loved it. I'm wondering if it sparked my love for numbers. Hmm... I ordered the following items for dinner: - Potstickers (half veggie and half chicken) - Soy-glazed prime rib beef fried rice I liked that I could get assorted potstickers here. They came out first. Gwen let me know which ones were veggie and which weren't. I appreciated that detail. I went ahead and ate them. The potstickers were yummy. There was lots of filling in both the chicken and veggie. The flavours were on point. They were pan-fried perfectly. They came in a shallow puddle of soy. Presentation-wise, the soy looked good. However, if you are a sodium-conscious person, having the potstickers on top of the soy would probably not be ideal. The potstickers did not go soggy due to the their being pan-fried. The soy-glazed prime rib beef fried rice intrigued me. I love prime rib. I wondered how it would work as a fried rice dish. It was definitely an east-west fusion. The prime rib beef came in bite-sized morsels. They were so tender that they melted in your mouth without much chewing effort involved. The soy glaze was perfect. You saw the sheen that you could almost see your face reflected back at you. What seemed odd to me were long bean sprouts and green peas in pods in the fried rice. Normally, all ingredients are small because you want them to match in size with the rice. It was weird eating my fried rice with a fork, trying to shovel the longer veggies in my mouth, and feeling the need to grab my chopsticks to get to the longer items. I saw pumpkin cheesecake on the menu. I was too stuffed, but wanted some. I asked Gwen if I could get some to go. She was happy to pack my dessert and place it in a paper bag with handles. Yay! I had it the following day at night as I watched TV. I loved the portion size. The pumpkin flavour was pronounced and perfect. The cheesecake was creamy and smooth. I got some caramel sauce to drizzle on top. It was nice to control how much I wanted. I paid with a credit card. There was no portable machine, so Gwen had to walk it back to her payment machine before I got everything back. I tipped. All was well. I used the washroom before I made my slow journey back to the hotel. It was clean and nicely stocked. It's just around the corner from reception when you first enter the restaurant. The same man who greeted me wished me a great evening. I reciprocated. I had a great experience here. I'd return when I'm shopping at this mall again and get hungry. I'd try a noodle dish next time. Big bowl is an easy choice for dinner my friends and family, especially after a day shopping at Ridgdale Mall. They have an extensive menu including vegetarian and gluten free items, and even have an entire section of the menu where you can build your own entree. The service is quick but not in a rush, so you'll be served right away but won't feel pressured to eat and run. They are also very knowledgeable of the menu, having helped my siblings with nut allergies find safe menu items to enjoy. My only complaint is that for a casual, family friendly chain restaurant it's getting quite expensive. The pad Thai will cost you $20 before tax and tip, although the portion sizes are large enough that you could justify the price as covering two meals instead of one! read more

My daughter raved about Big Bowl and and their Pho.We stopped in to try it and found out they don't have Pho on the menu anymore.It was disappointing but since we were there it was go time for food.I ordered the orange chicken with vegetable fried rice and my daughter got the Pad Thai.The orange chicken was okay...the chicken was perfectly fried! Went with a friend on Friday after Xmas. The place was jammed and noisy. The server was prompt and helpful in selecting options. The egg drop soup was nothing like i have ever had before. Broth was too brown and the eggs too minced, and lacking in color. My soup came first, but before i had a chance to take a few spoonfuls, along came my entree. I prefer that the main course be served after i finish the appetizer. The main course , and i have had green curry with shrimp many times in my life, look like a 'fast food' bowl of 'stuff'. We ordered the combination potstickers for an appetizer. Each potsticker was steamed perfectly. The sauce was sweet and savory. We also ordered the hibiscus tea and raspberry lemonade. Both were good. The tea was good not sweet. The lemonade was just the right sweetness. For lunch we had chicken stir fry and kung pau beef. Both delicious! The portion sizes are large. Big Bowl is one of my favorite chains out there. I am always picky about chains, but the quality and consistency is unwavering - and I've been ordering the same staples for years. I always get the chicken potstickers and Mongolian beef! They are both always wonderful - flavorful and I don't know if they're authentic but I enjoy them On our most recent visit, the girls and I got the seasonal sangria which was passion fruit. It was tart and delicious and plenty strong - we had a fun night! We had a reservation which was necessary for a Saturday night. It was busy!! We made our reservations through Open Table and our table was ready about 10 mins after our reservation so we took a walk into the mall and the hostess texted when the table was ready. For a mall restaurant, it's decent and probably one of the better choices. I wouldn't come here if I weren't at the mall though. We had made a reservation to be safe but got there earlier and they were able to sit us immediately. Our server was extremely polite and very attentive. For drinks, we got a mojito and the seasonal sangria, which was black cherry. Both drinks were on the sweet side. I had a hard time finishing the sangria because it was so sweet. We ordered the Thai Herb Fried Calamari for our appetizer. It wasn't fried enough, sadly. The sauce was too heavy on the fish sauce. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Thai Green Curry Vegetables with Tofu. I was warned that it'd be very spicy and it was! I was disappointed that it was so saucy and salty and that the ratio of rice to curry was not sufficient. My husband ordered the Kung Pao Beef, and similarly, it was very salty and there wasn't enough rice to balance it. Something that may seem inconsequential to others but feels culturally ignorant to me, is that the Chinese thin noodles option was originally presented as "spaghetti, but Chinese". It would have been acceptable to explain the noodles as "similar to spaghetti" rather than calling it spaghetti. read more

Very small reception/welcome/waiting area - kinda awkward to stand there and talk with the host and then not be able to move away for other to get to the host stand. I like their notification system for a wait - easy text messages come to your phone, we just had to wait about 20 min on a Friday night around 7:15. We were seated in a booth as requested, but it seemed like there was a bunch of tables available when we were seated after waiting 20 minutes, so I'm not sure if they were understaffed or the kitchen was behind, because it seemed odd that there was so many tables available but we hadn't been sat yet. Our server was very quiet and when explaining the stir fry bar to me, talked away from me, pointed towards the bar, so I couldn't hear a thing he said. Weird. Only stopped by once to refill waters and lemonades - that was annoying, and an easy way to piss people off. The flavored lemonade tasted really off, both of the flavors, wish I would have just stuck with water this time. In the past I've loved it, so I'm not sure what is up with that. This is a perfect Thai and Chinese place if you are in the Twin cities and looking for somewhere where you can pick what you want on your plate and how much of that. I'm going to write this review common to the one in Ridgedale mall and the one in Edina Galleria as they offer the same menu and almost the same dining experience. I'm a vegetarian and will provide my review with my limited insights on the veg menu. They have some exceptional potstickers and dumplings that you can start with. The peanut noodles are a good option too and we have always asked the waiter to warm up it a bit. Now comes the best part -Stir Fry Bar. The waiter at the start takes notes of your choice of rice, curry and protein and gives you this piece of note. You need to carry this to the preparing area, pick a bowl with a plastic tong and start picking your veggies from a plethora of choices. Once done, you leave the bowl there over the note. The trick is to keep the veggies minimum so that you get more of the rice and when it's served hot, Ta-da! If you have more, never fret. They pack it up pretty well to carry out. They have a novel way of showcasing their dessert menu with a plastic display of different items to give you a visual idea of the choices to pick from. A few items vary between the two locations. Nevertheless, this is an excellent place to be at if you are looking for a sumptuous lunch or dinner. read more

Is this the best Chinese or Thai food in town? Absolutely not. But does it taste good? Absolutely. We came here for dinner on 1/7. Crystal was our server and was VERY enthusiastic. She gave us an in-depth run through of the menu since we previously haven't been there. That was appreciated. We both decided to get their freshly-squeezed lemonade and they added raspberry flavoring. I will admit, those lemonades were VERY tart. About halfway through my glass, I had to switch to water. Food: Chicken Pad Thai: this was ordered with a kick to it. IT HAD KICK. Imagine being kicked in the face. But, that's how he wanted his pad thai! He rated it a 5/5. Shrimp Pad Thai: The first order had kick to it. I ordered it without any the spicy enhancement. Crystal was great about getting it re-made correctly. I'd give the revised dish a 3.5/5. First timers here, and what a wonderful surprise! We randomly chose to eat here based on the mall choices. Our waitress, Jessica, was friendly and full of smiles. Very helpful since we didn't know the menu and there were so many mouth-watering choices. We started with some potstickers and the sauce was so tasty. I ordered the orange chicken and my hubby the sesame chicken. I couldn't decide but Jessica helped. :) Best orange chicken ever. The breading wasn't like a fried shell that can come off badly, everything about it was fresh, bright and full of flavor. I could taste all the ingredients without one overpowering another.
