Nopedy nope nope. Took us about an hour to get our food: bland, unseasoned "steamed" eggs :( , tough and flavorless toast, and some very sad looking fruit. When we first got there we were wondering why this place, packed with customers, had so many people leaving with plates virtually untouched. The potions are *massive* so I first thought people were just ordering and unable to finish 1/10 of their plate- but then we realized....finishing 1/10 took some work purely because the food was so sub-par. We waited a VERY long time, honestly about an hour, for some steamed eggs, toast, and my husband's came with Turkey meat. Yikes. The side of potatoes we ordered was actually good- the one item with flavor! Plus, there were as many flies in there as people. We were looking for somewhere to grab a good breakfast, and one of my friends was dying to grab biscuits and gravy. They Googled "best biscuits and gravy in Boise" and this place came up...and good thing it did! The prices were surprising for the amount of food they served. The friend ordered biscuits and gravy and their plate was MASSIVE! Each biscuit was probably the size of their head, entirely smothered with country gravy and filled with bacon. I didn't taste it (although there was plenty to share) because I ordered a feta and artichoke quiche (for $7!!!) with a side of breakfast potatoes. Again, the price was incredible for the amount of food they served. They also had amazing scones--I ordered a lemon blackberry scone and it was so yummy! We stopped here on our way back home to Utah and man all I can say is I've been depressed knowing that I can't come back multiple times a week to this place. The take out was ready exactly when it was supposed to be. The workers were amazingly friendly and helpful. The restaurant was super cute and it made me sad we didn't have time to eat there inside. It was like Hipster meets Cracker Barrel and I am down for that pleasing esthetic. The food was incredible it was the best breakfast I've had out in forever. We ordered the Farmer's daughter with sausage, and the rodeo wrap with avocado and sour cream, and the loaded potatoes. Which was kind of a mistake on our part only because the food portions were HUGE!! The eggs and cheese and all the veggies with the Farmer's daughter were absolutely incredible it was so hot and tasted so good my husband really enjoyed it and I enjoyed a few bites. I got the rodeo wrap which I should not have added sour cream to and in general I don't really eat wraps very often but this was absolutely delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked and the eggs were to die for the cheese pulls in this wrap were the stuff of legends. The loaded potatoes were so good we ate them for lunch on the road and man I wish we could go back today. We also ate the leftovers from breakfast for dinner. I don't know why I don't come here more often. Oh yea, it's not in the best part of town anymore. On another note,this place is seriously so yummy. You get a lot of food for a medium price. I got the Spanish breakfast with bacon and salsa, I think they forgot the sour cream, a huge warm scone, and a medium Mexican hot chocolate. All for under $27. The breakfast can feed two people. The scone two or three people. It's nice and clean inside. I didn't know, but if you want water it is to the left of the register. The baked section.. holy jeeze the variety they had. We were visiting the city and really enjoyed the vibes here. Cozy and busy. The moment when we walked in we could feel this is a community and local favorite. We waited in line for about 10 mins and read the big menu trying to decide what to get. I ordered the bacon and spinach quiche with fruits, and hubby ordered the Deluxe bagel sandwich. We waited at our table for another 20 mins before getting our food. The quiche was absolutely delicious and worth the wait. Fresh and hot out of oven - it's savory and rich. The fruits on side were refreshing. Hubby thought his meaty bagel sandwich was good but could be warmer - maybe the kitchen finished making the bagel sandwich first and waited for the quiche to cook in the oven. This place is darling! The name didn't communicate what it was at all, in my opinion. It's a farmhouse-style full breakfast and bakery spot. Indoor/outdoor seating with lots of colorful decor and fresh wildflowers on farm tables. Large tables and tables for four, there's plenty of seating. The menu is large worth options for everyone. The portions are HUGE! Enough for 2 people, at least. I had a breakfast sandwich the first day, just your standard bagel, egg, bacon, cheese number and let me tell you, I don't recommend eating it in the car! The second day I had the veggie breakfast burrito which tasted super healthy with broccoli, squash, red onions and bell peppers, eggs and potatoes in an enormous wheat tortilla. I ate it for two days and it was just as flavorful the second day. They have pastries, cookies, and baked goods galore! And they're all as big as your head. Decided to stop by after seeing the crowd enjoying their meals outdoors. Little did I know how big the space was and how packed it could be! How it works is that you walk in, go to the counter to order, and find available seating. They have large family style tables and some small bar seats on the side slightly hidden. As you wait for your food be sure to check out their decor indoors as it's not your average and have cute trinkets around the whole place. Ended up getting the tamale & cowboy breakfast. Both items were decently priced but the portions were HUGE! You will likely need to share an entree or you will for sure have some to take home. For the cowboy too they only have one type of toast so don't expect your sourdough here but be sure to enjoy it with the side of jam they provide. The tamale was unique and loved the avocado they pair on top as well. All in all, the menu items were pretty extensive but were pretty standard. Solid place if you want a classic american breakfast but also want the options for bagels, etc. be sure to look at their window case as well since they have MASSIVE desserts as well for under $5. This spot is one of those types of eateries where you order, get a number, and then find yourself a table. It can get really busy, especially during brunch hours so it can be a gamble on getting a seat or not. They do offer takeout if you think seating is going to be too much of a problem. I came here for lunch but I was craving breakfast foods and I got the Wrap which is like their breakfast burrito with steamed eggs, potatoes, cheese and your choice of their ham, bacon, or sausage. I order it with sausage but there just wasn't enough flavor there. I think they charge more of extra salsa and that wrap really needed it. We also got the breakfast tamales which were better than the Wrap flavor wise but still could have used more of a kick in my opinion. Everything you order here is A LOT of food. Yikes. I wish I had taken more time to look at the recent reviews before stopping by for brunch, to set my expectations correctly (and honestly, avoid coming altogether). It seems like the experience at Big City Coffee can be really hit or miss, and I hope they figure out a way to be more consistent. I'm pretty sure a couple of people that ordered after me received their order first, which was really frustrating to see. As other reviewers have mentioned, the majority of their staff were really young, and could likely use more training. I saw one of their staff grabbing all sorts of different plates and putting things away, then using their bare hand to guide ice into cups, which resulted in them touching a lot of the ice. I took a blackberry scone to go, it was to die for but just a bit sweet, most scones are not that sweet. The seating is a bit tight because you order your food at the counter and then find a place to sit, most tables are large picnic style so you probably will be sitting next to someone you don't know but if you're into meeting people it's a good possibility you will make a new friend. Most people in Boise are very friendly. After you order they will bring your food to you but it is pretty much a self serve place, coffee and condiments are on a small counter, and don't forget to grab your water when you place your order, it's to the left I will make a point to eat here whenever I'm in Boise, good food, good people! read more

Dropped in to try the place. Ordered coffee and "The Wrap" total came to about $20. Coffee tasted like it was made with a dirty percolator. Girl helping was nice and received the food quickly. I noticed immediately it was sitting in a pool of fluid. The bacon was burned hard into a weird, impenetrable crust stuck to the tortilla. The eggs inside were powdered eggs. Did not even try to finish. The inside of the restaurant was a mishmashed farmhouse aesthetic, which meant that none of the chairs or tables were built for a comfortable height, and everything felt like it had been found in the back of a barn and powerwashed before being nailed to the wall. Passing through on a long road trip and looking for a good breakfast before hitting the road again and Big City Coffee was an unfortunate choice. It was open at 6am, near our hotel and looked promising. However, it really missed the mark. We got the Blue Ribbon which was a MASSIVE (3-4 person serving) a biscuit and gravy with sausage and scramble eggs. The biscuit was very dry and crumbly. The gravy could've made up for it except it tasted like it came from a powder mixed with water with an odd gelatinous texture. The steamed eggs were bland and had an odd texture as well; an option to have a fried egg would be a significant improvement. Instead of charging $16 for a giant portion of subpar food, a better dish with quality ingredients and a 1/3 of the size could easily demand $13. They had several mini quiche flavors which was a pleasant surprise. We got the bacon spinach and cheese. First bite was delicious but it soon became obvious it was over salted. It might've just been this particular batch that got an extra hit of salt but that's en easy fix and worth a try. The portion is perfect and the price reasonable. We got a Mexican hot chocolate which was pretty good. However, the mocha was mostly milk. It's a order at the counter kind of place so I can't really comment on service other than they all seemed to be busy keeping things stocked and clean. I found my new favorite breakfast spot! From the moment I walked in I knew I was going to love it. The interior of the restaurant is so well decorated, giving in a very "homey" feel. You go up to the counter to order and then they bring the food to your table. Not only do they have a wide variety of options on their menu but they have a huge pastry window to choose from. We ended up going with the lemon pie scone and the blueberry scone. Both were good but the lemon icing took it to the next level! We then got a slice of veggie quiche and ham and fontina quiche to split. So many great options! The fruit served with the quiche was so fresh and flavorful. I'm a little older than the average customer that patronizes this establishment as best I could tell . Having said that it is a hipster atmosphere. Very nice , clean inviting open space if rushing coffee and a meal. After I figured out that you place your order up front and get your own coffee, I settled in. The young lady asked if I wanted the full order or half order. I wasn't sure which way to go l, so I said half. I am glad I ordered the half because it is a ginormous portion. I can't even imagine the size of a full order. The half order is easily enough food for two heavy eaters . It would feed 3 normal appetites. The biscuit is very large but was flaky, hearty , and substantial at the same time . Served with several slices of chopped bacon, not sure how many but it is enough. The gravy is flavorful and not too greasy, it compliments the biscuit beautifully and the amount of gravy was perfectly proportional to the biscuit. I did not however enjoy the coffee as much. I think I got the wrong blend and it was too strong and bitter for me. It also did not help that my sweetener of choice, "Splenda" was not available . They only had sweet n low , which I detest. I will have to retry the coffee. Prices are on the higher side for the coffee and the meal but given the portion size, location, and quality, it was really not that far off in hindsight. I would have enjoyed a little more employee interaction , asking about my meal, bringing more coffee, etc. but this is not that kind of place. Came to Boise from California to visit family, and we weren't having the best luck finding good food. While at Ann Morrison park we looked up some nearby coffee shops, and Big City seemed to have good reviews. We walked the .7 miles and were greeted by the friendliest staff and some of the biggest pastries I've ever seen. Coffee was great and the pastries were amazing (we tried 3 different kinds). We decided we would have to come back another day for breakfast during our trip! Fast forward to today, and WOW. Breakfast was fantastic! We got there early, about 6:30, and we the portions were huge, and food was out fast. Plenty for my husband and I to split and for my toddler to have some off of our plate as well. We also were thrilled to see that this business supports law enforcement, as my husband is a deputy sheriff back in CA. Really loved this place. We were driving through Boise looking for a place to eat. It looked casual (our kinda spot) and a nice variety of food without being overwhelming. It's a very cute spot. In spite of how busy it was (Sunday/Father's Day) the line moved fast and seats became relatively available after maybe 5-10 minutes of waiting. I think most people understand that this is not a place for overly leisurely eating where you linger long after you finish eating (although a group behind us did not get that memo - don't be a lingerer! It's rude). Great service, everyone is very nice. You get in line, order your food/drinks and find a seat with a number. Water is self serve behind the counter. If you ordered a specialty coffee they bring that out to you but otherwise regular coffee is also self serve. We don't care about being overly catered to so we like this casual/family vibe. If you need anything, everyone is happy to help. A lot of their food (breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, and breakfast sandwiches, etc.) is ginormous. No worry about leaving hungry here. If you want smaller portions, they have a smaller item section but some of their regular items are not overly big. We got the Farmer's Daughter, Tree Hugger, Banana Split Waffles, and a side of bacon. All were delicious. Fresh ingredients, good flavors, and of course, super filling.
