Decided to order drinks at the bar while we wait for our table. The bar keep seems busy with only 4 other patrons at bar. After making our drinks, he doesn't serve it to us he just lets them sit there, while he goes about serving others. We finally sit and someone is quick to take our order. No name, no hello. We give our order. Chicken and ribs and pig out. The chicken in both meals are undercooked and dry. The ribs still have a pulse, red on the inside. The beef and pulled pork are ok. Sauce on meals are masked with plenty of black pepper. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you like rare chicken and pork then go ahead and be a patron. This place should close its doors or just serve warm beers. read more

Pretty good restaurant! The Jambalaya was very good and the chicken and fries were also very good! The only reason for 4 stars is because of the spice. It was very spicy! Otherwise, I definitely recommend going to Big Daddy's! read more

As others have pointed out - the menu changes daily so check out the website before you head out there! We wait for 'gator and jambalaya days, and have been consistently impressed. The 'gator bites are perfectly fried and well-seasoned. This is a childhood favorite of mine, which means I am oh so happy to have found a place I can get it up here! The jambalaya is spiiiiicyyyy and so good. Also a big fan of the shrimp etoufee. The portions are enormous, so we've learned to share 1 app, 1 entrée and 1 dessert. ..but if you can't make a decision, want to try a couple dishes at a time, or just don't like to share - they're stuff makes great leftovers. The desserts are not really stellar, so it's ok to skip that if you're not absolutely craving something for dessert. I've only ever gotten the sweet tea vodka with lemonade as far as cocktails are concerned, but it's delicious! And of course, they've always got Abita bottles. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for months and I finally got the chance to go last night. So lets start this review. Got there at 5:15, place was hoping, great atmosphere, bread and garlic butter was a nice way to begin the meal. First thing ordered, a cup of beef, sausage and chicken gumbo, perfect, well rounded and I could have had a bucket full of it. My entree was the pulled pork and waffles, that just sounds amazing and it tasted better, pork was a little sweet though, the waffle was nice and crisp and the cheese and scallion were great in there not to Mention the bacon on top which was thick as a damn steak, bourbon syrup was a nice addition too. Fries were ehh but I honestly didn't care. My parents got po'boys, one chicken and one fried shrimp. All the food was well above par. Service was incredible and this will now be a regular stop if we are on the south shore. read more

I only ate at Big Daddy's once, but it was absolutely delicious. I went with the rib eye steak over a bed of mashed potatoes. It was absolutely phenomenal. The atmosphere is very Cajun looking as well. It's hard to find, because it's hidden by the LIRR. But it's worth going once you find it. Can't wait to come back when I visit Long Island read more

I think I'm still full from my dinner from here last night. To be fair, I got the entree entitled"Pig Out" ...so I guess I was really asking for it. I went here with some family friends, and they had heard about it from it's reputation as a great Cajun place. Since Mardi Gras is today, we figured we'd go there last night to enjoy some drinks and have a great Cajun dinner. After checking the awesome reviews on Yelp, I was really psyched to get there and try it myself. This is hands down the best Cajun restaurant I've been to. To be fair, that isn't saying all that much since I don't eat Cajun particularly frequently, but I do eat out a lot. Here is what I had: Drink: Jalapeño infused tequila margarita - holy crap this is spicy. I loved it, but I would go with salt on the rim instead of the cajun spiced rim (it was really freaking spicy) Appetizer: the hushpuppies - these were perfectly cooked, and had delicious scallion honey butter with them Entree: the Pig Out dish - this included pulled pork, ribs, BBQ brisket, andouille sausage, and a quarter roast chicken. I got this because well, everything looked so freaking good on the menu, I just wanted to sample everything. At only a few bucks more than most entrees, I thought why not? EVERYTHING on that plate was incredible. I eat pulled pork in the south a lot, and that pulled pork was some of the tastiest I've had. The sausage was PERFECTLY done (and I lived in Germany for a few years) and it had this spicy kick that really put it over the top for me. The brisket was so tender and melted in your mouth, and the ribs had a really smoky taste that I was surprised I actually liked. I didn't even get to the roast chicken because the other things were so great. Dessert: The table had bananas foster and the peanut butter and jelly pie. I like the PB&J, but only order it if you enjoy the idea of a PB&J for dessert. It was excellently done, and the waitress recommended it, but I just didn't love it as dessert. The bananas foster was excellent. The best part of it all? We have so many leftovers we'll pretty good to go for the next two or three days. Came here on a date night with the hubby. He was recommended to this place by many of his co-workers. When we first walked it, it felt a bit strange. There was no hostess to greet us or to give us any type of clue of as to how long we would be waiting. We thought we walked in to a Christmas office party. After waiting about 5 mins, we were greeted and given two Mardi Gras beads. We were quickly seated. Now the food: The butter we were given with our bread was stupendous! It was deliciously sweet! My husband ordered a jambalaya and I ordered the motor mouthed stuffed shrimp. Every bite of my meal was pure heaven. It was sooo much food, it was difficult to finish it all. We had a drink each, I had a house drink. Overall, I would go again and would definitely recommend this place to all. So glad we were able to experience this place. read more

Went in with a few friends and my fiance' the other night (Saturday), and this was my first time in there. I am a native Texan, so when I go for BBQ I have a high standard, but I have been to plenty of great places in the NYC/Long Island area. The decor is awesome. Reminds me of NOLA, and that was great. Their drink menu at the bar was incredible. I for sure suggest the Something Doberman margarita. It was amazing and the habanero tequila was great in it. Also, so was the hurricane! It's a must have. The bar staff was awesome and attentive. Then we were sat down (it took about a hour, but that was expected, so no points against them for that. Here is where it went down hill. I ordered the Big Pig Out. Had "Texas Style Brisket", which I was suspicious of from the start. I have had BBQ all over the country and this was without a doubt on the bottom rung. The BBQ was "meh" at best. The Brisket was too rough and the smoke ring was not what one expects. The Andoullie Sausage was good. DO NOT TOUCH THE COLESLAW. However, the worst has been the past two days after I ate the food... I have been in gastronomic agony ever since I got home that night. I didn't finish half of the plate, and yet, I am devastated ever since then. I wouldn't suggest that anybody else eat the ribs, or the pulled pork, because at this point I am not sure as to what has caused this devil to dance around my belly. The baked beans were good, but when that is the strongest part of your BIG PIG OUT, you might want to rethink your recipe and cooking process. My friend and his family have been RAVING about this place for YEARS and I FINALLY WENT! I know, excessive with the caps, but words cannot describe how amazing it was. We waited an hour on Saturday, but I would have waited two knowing now. First of all, the interior is like, so casual and throw back, it is a total DDD type of place. Their drink list is insane. I had the gecko first, then something similar. Both were awesome; refreshing and boozy. My friend got the spicy margarita and bloody mary; I tried both and loved them. NOW: Food. WOW. We got the buffalo style mussels ; which were SO good. It took everything in me not to dunk every piece of bread they gave me into the rich, spicy sauce. Even BETTER we had the oysters with Gruyere and horseradish. It was AMAZING. I want it EVERY TIME I'm there. Hell, I want it EVERY day. It was like my 3 favorite things all rolled together. Hot, gooey, big meaty oysters. MMMM! Main dishes we got the rich, melty, buttery mahi mahi that came with AMAZING habenero cheddar grits. I want to DIE eating those grits. Perfect texture and flavor. I gave my cat a few bites of left over fish when I got home, HA he went NUTS. The other dish we got was blackened chicken with andouie sausage dirt rice. MMMMM spicy and rich and delicious. It took me THREE meals to eat the whole dish. And to top it off, I had a coffee with praline vodka. Sweet and delicious. I want to go here all the time. Except that I'll gain a billion pounds. Went there today for Cajun St Patrick's day. NOT HAPPY. Our waitress was rude. One of the women at my table was having a really hard time with the shrimp and grits because it was soooo hot. The waitress never offered her anything else and she couldn't eat it. There we NO substitutions so if you didn't want to eat fries or hash you were out of luck. After we sat there for awhile one of the woman asked if she could order a drink and she said " this group was supposed to be for one and a half hours , so that meant NO. All she had to say was I am taking sorry mam you will have to go to the bar to order it. The band played Jazz only. It was ST PATRICKS DAY !! It was not fun. So much for that. I had a burger. No vegees nothing. I won't be going back there and either will the people from our table. After spending all that money with a group of 30 people you would expect better food and nicer service. Big Daddy's is a creole's dream come true. It was like visiting my grandmother's kitchen - bringing up feelings of being back in a true New Orleans kitchen. The food is spicy! My palate (and stomach) are not as adventurous as I would like them to be - however - the food is so delicious you can't stop eating. I went on a Saturday evening with my prospective in-laws and my parents. The menu changes each day and you can check it out before you leave for the restaurant. I ended up going with the pasta jambalaya, which is exactly how it sounds. Instead of rice, they serve it with pasta in a white alfredo sauce. It was delicious and perfect and my stomach is rumbling with the thought of it now! It was an incredible experience that I genuinely cannot wait to go again. read more

My mouth is still burning a bit from the blackened chicken...man is that spicy. I'm a very conservative eater. I don't eat "weird" food (yes I consider gator bites to be weird), and typically shy away from really spicy food, but I still enjoyed dinner here. I came with a few co-workers for dinner. One of them is originally from the south, so after a bowl of gumbo and a plate of jambalaya he could have died and went to heaven. Went here on Saturday night for a friends bday. First, they expanded the inside and honestly made it look like a diner, that was a bit disappointing. I miss how it use to look inside, much more Mardi Gras vibe. I had a sangria to start, which was very good, not the best but worth the order. We were seated all the way in the back of the restaurant and the waitress definitely treated us like that too. She ignored us but she was very nice so it was not awful. Plus, we were out for someones bday so were not in a rush. We started with the gator and smoked wings apps. I personally do not like gator but the vinegar slaw that was under it was delicious. The wings on the other hand were amazing. I would recommend this to anyone who eats there, when it is on the menu since the menu changes daily. They were smoked with a mango bbq sauce on it, to die for! I dipped the bread in the sauce to finish it up :) That was a pleasant start to the meal. I decided to order a glass of wine with dinner, not really sure why though at a place like this (maybe because I was wine tasting earlier so craving this a bit) But anyway, what a mistake that was. The wine tasted bad, potentially it was overheated/not stored properly. They wine was from Pindar, the reason I picked it out initially, so I know that the wine normally did not taste like that. The waitress was very understanding and gladly replaced it with a Sangria, which costs $1 more but she did not charge the extra buck. I decided to go with the shrimp po boy for dinner. I never had something like this before but I was really craving grilled shirmp. Well, mistake two. The sandwich came out, one huge french bread sub cut in two, and I knew I would only be able to eat one. I was excited but than saw the shrimp was baby shrimp that did not even have grill marks in it, looks like they just defrosted cocktail shrimp. Well it tasted like that did too! I was smart enough to ask for the mango bbq sauce with the po boy, which they were happy to accommodate free of charge, and I ended up putting the vinegar coleslaw on on half of the bread with the bbq sauce, not eating the shrimp at all. Just felt it was a waste of money and wish I did not order it. Everyone else enjoyed their food but they are all big meat eaters. I do give the place props for having all food with cajun twist to it but the 3 stars is attributed to the lack of variety for non meat eaters (maybe have a cajun salad special every night.. they only had a plan ceasar salad which I do not like to begin with but would never order from a place like this). I have eaten at a new orleans creole restaurant a bunch of times when I was at school in Ithaca, and always was able to order a great grilled shrimp dish, so if they fix that they would definitely receive another star. read more

So, this place isn't exactly "my style", but I don't want to take away from the rating for that. It's a very laid back kind of place with live music and loud conversations. I'm NOT huge on heavy meat dishes, nor do I like spicy foods. My husband, on the other hand, would eat steak everyday if he could and would probably love me even more if I carried hot sauce in my purse. To his excitement, we ended up receiving a $150 gift card here. The first time we tried to go was a Friday night and it was TOO packed, turns out they have happy hour and free food until 6, we came right about on the tail end of it and decided to eat elsewhere. The next time we did takeout. We called in the order, which included a free hurricane drink that they allowed us to sit at the bar to drink before picking up the food. I don't really like their corn bread at all but the mashed potatoes were amazing! Hubby got spicy jambalaya that made my eyes water when he opened it up, so I didn't even try it but he said it was OK. Another time I got the baby back ribs they were literally falling off the bone and SO delicious. I would definitely get ribs again from here, but that's about it. I can see a spicy meat lover being happy here! read more

Pretty good food with huge portions. Jambalaya - delicious, Gumbo- also delicious, drinks- pretty powerful. However the atmosphere is odd, don't really understand the decorations I get mardi gras but they should consider repainting the top wall black and having bursts of color instead. Only negative is that it was busy when we arrived and it took a long time to get a table - but when we finally got one we walked into a section that was half empty! Why? The staff was pleasant, i've been here twice, I may go again but I prefer really spicy food and though they warn you that it is spicy, no such luck. read more

This is my favorite kind of food but ever since my favorite cajun place closed in Whitestone it's been virtually impossible to find a creole place just as good. This place is pretty good though. I was looking forward to having the crawfish dinner which was good but a little to peanut butter tasting for me. I brought half home and it as much better the day after got some reason. Dirty Rice Balls were good too along with the alligator app. All were delicious but I think I'm just biased from the place in queens. The bloody mary was delicious along with the Apple moonshine drink. The place was surprisingly packed at 6 pm and took 45 minutes for a table for 2. They don't take reservations for 2 on Saturdays so if your going to go on Saturday then leave early!! I do like this place and would definitely eat here again. Gumbo ... outstanding. Corn Bread ... outstanding. Jambalaya ... outstanding but be prepared for some heat as their preparation is very spicy. I have to say that I did start out with the Chicken and St. Louis Ribs. The chicken was just OK, but the ribs were pretty awful (to my surprise). They were very tough and tasteless ... not much bark. They had obviously not been smoked enough. To their credit, they tried again (same result) and our outstanding waitress brought it to the attention of management who admitted there was an issue and immediately replaced it with the Jambalaya. So all in all, a good experience but stay away from the ribs. read more

OK, I'm a little flabbergasted. I came across this place while looking for places to eat here on Yelp. When I saw it come up with the tag, "Cajun/Creole," I'm not going to lie, I was a bit skeptic. I grew up outside of NOLA before we moved to Memphis just before High School. And if there's two things I know, Cajun and BBQ! And, well, being a KCBS Judge, an NEBS Judge and having a Mom that owned a place in Memphis for a long time, I grew up around Food. That being said, I went straight for the standards of Creole to set my basis on this, "Yankee" Cajun restaurant. So, the night was Chicken Andouille Gumbo, Grilled Alligator on a Vinegar Slaw, and Crawfish Jambalaya with Tasso and Andouille...And that means washing it down with an Abita Wrought Iron IPA. I feel a little excited being back down South here on Long Island. Out came the Gumbo. I'm not going to lie, it was good. REALLY good. Like, HOLY SHIT Good. I'm not going to say it was better than my Momma's...because that's just not right. But it was DAMN CLOSE! Then came out the Alligator...it was grilled, amazing, but just slightly tough. But, still VERY good. I know how hard it is to cook alligator, and this was done better than some places back in LA/FL/MS. Last was this HUGE plate of Jambalaya...and I mean HUGE! And they put on the menu that it has a kick. They weren't lying...I had to ask for extra napkins, and not for my hands, those were nose blowin' napkins. But Damn, it was good...and flavorful. SO FLAVORFUL! The crawfish, the Shrimp, the Andouille, the TASSO! MAN! To find Tasso in the North, the owners here are doing it right. They aren't fooling around when talking about real swamp cooking. These guys are legit. I'm sad that I can find this level of cooking now that I live in the Boston area. I mean, I'm thinking that I might just take the ferry over from CT just to eat here some time. Why don't I give it five stars? Well, they had tons of LS WHO stuff up on the walls...and well, as I went to Ole Miss...I just can't give them 5 stars... Just kidding, they get them all...I'm really excited that I'm coming back here a few more times for my job...so I'm going to be making a few more stops. Now that I know there's a place here that doesn't screw around when it comes to cajun cooking, I'm going to be trying some of what they lay down... I suggest you like them on Facebook if you live close, as they post the daily specials and they aren't nice about it...they look so good that I'd end up the size of K-Paul if I lived close. Finding this place on Yelp was amazing, finding the food to be what it was, Lagniappe! Le bon temps roule!! Don't ever stop, Big Daddy's, Don't ever stop! As a food writer, I have to give Big Daddy's only 2 stars. Had I not just eaten in New Orleans I wouldn't have known what is authentically Cajun. However, Big Daddy's cooking is an exaggerated version of New Orleans fare, overly blackened, somewhat greasy, and drowned in lousiana heat. Nothing subtle here ... and the catfish can do without the cream sauce. On the upside atmosphere is fun, the music is good, the portions are huge if you need that, and the food will go through you twice - once that night and again the second day if you're into detoxing. read more

This is a demi-review in that I did not have a full meal when I visited Big Daddys. I stopped in the other night, the first time I had been in Big Daddy's in over a decade. Honestly, not much had changed. And I wasn't exactly starving. Still, I started with an appetizer. I chose the Cool Shake Andouille, a grilled piece of andouille sausage laid on a bed of cole slaw with a chipotle sour cream salsa on top. The grilled sausage was excellent. Very spicy, but excellent. The flavor was just bursting with smokiness that cut through the spice. The chipotle sour cream salsa would have been just fine without adding the chipotle, as the spiciness of the andouille stood on its own. The cole slaw was really necessary to counterbalance all the heat. Fortunately, the cole slaw did its job. To go with it I chose the Dixie Beer. I was looking for a pilsner (my favorite) but the Dixie Beer was a flavorful lager that paired well with the sausage. Dixie was a New Orleans-brewed beer that got shut down by Hurricane Katrina and now is contract brewed elsewhere using the Dixie recipe. The appetizer is basically so large that it killed my appetite for dinner. Instead of a $10 giant appetizer, they would be better off with a $5 serving and a smaller portion. I would like to go back and have a full meal, but the reputation of being overly spicy on everything seems well earned. If you like the heat, by all means go. read more

Came here with my good friends before heading out to a movie. It was a REALLY good thing we got there so early. The food is fantastic! I tried all the food at the table, which consisted of a pulled pork po boy, brisket po boy, blackened chicken sandwhich, and roasted chicken platter, and an order of apple bbq wings. The wings were fantastic, and the sauce was a great balance between spicy and sweet. All of the meats were cooked really well, and the three available sauces had their own benefits (I particularly liked the hot sauce). In addition, the bread was awesome...and bread can really kill a sandwhich. The sides that were included were sweet potato fries and vinegar based cole slaw, which is the only slaw i like. The fries were a bit soggy, but the slaw was fantastic. They also had an awesome pumpkin beer in the bottle. They offer no beers on tap, but I probably would have gone with the bottled pumpkin beer anyway. My biggest qualm was the service. It was a fairly empty place so early in the morning, but everything took FOREVER to arrive--and that includes the waitress. She seemed to sometimes forget which tables were hers, but considering there were about 4 occupied tables, that blew me away. It was literally 45 minutes between ordering and the APPETISER arriving. We had two rounds of drinks before the food, and we weren't even drinking fast. This place would definitely be 4 stars if not for the service. read more

Being originally from the South, its so important to me to have a good comfort food place in New York and Big Daddy's fill that role for me. We've been there twice now and I will definitely be back again. My favorite menu item so far has been the Pulled Pork and Waffles. You're served a delicious savory waffle with scallions and cheese in the mix, topped with a huge helping of pulled pork, more cheese and syrup. There might have been bacon in there too, but that feeding frenzy is kind of a blur to me now. If you love BBQ style meat, the Big Pig Out platter is another great choice. I had dinner, and two days of lunches from this thing and was not disappointed with the variety of cajun meats and BBQ options. I love their sides as well, you can't beat the cornbread! The onion ring appetizer was also great. It came with a tasty dipping sauce and this cole slaw we couldn't get enough of. This is a great restaurant, but it's not super intimate. They have live music during the week which can get really loud if you're in the bar area waiting to be seated or sitting close to the performer. And watch out, the food can be really spicy if you aren't prepared. read more

Second time Coming here. 30 minute wait (not bad for a Friday night) British girl served us she was nice but not too attentive. I started with the gumbo. It was very good and nice and spicy. We had the ribs and chicken for entrees. Personally I have had better ribs elsewhere but they were alright. The chicken was kind of small and very fatty. Vinegar is a main ingredient in pretty much everything. The price is a little steep for what they offer. Rack of ribs $28 and you can't substitute fries for something? An extra $5 for fries. That's why I gave this place my 2 stars. Don't nickle and dime us. $2.50 for a half of a glass of unsweetened ice tea and then the waitress forgets the refill. Sorry but even though the food was ok I wouldn't come back because there are other places I can get a better meal at a better price. read more

As I sit here at Big Daddy's reminiscing on the food I just ate. Let me tell you the food was so good it made me want to snatch my wig off !!! Im coming again and that's saying a lot seeing I live out in Jersey. Came in with a group of 6, we each tried something different. So I had a chance to taste a variety of foods and everything was exceptional.. ie... shrimp po'boy... brisket po'boy... gumbo... jambalaya... and the amazing wings .. Just yummy!!! My boyfriend and I are regulars here. Because they add entrees to the menu everyday, he checks it EVERYDAY to see if something new comes up that he would be interested in. If you don't like spicy food, your options are limited, but everything isn't super spicy. Great gumbo, jambalaya, chicken fried steak...Drinks are sweet and very strong, and some, like the choking Doberman with jalapeño infused tequila..... Very hot ! Awesome blood Mary's. Great service. It's loud, but it's not meant to be a cozy spot. Think Mardi Gras, duh!!! They have live music and a great pecan pie :) You'd be a fool to not at least try this place. read more

Visited for the first time on Monday 1/13/15 and had lunch. I'm not sure how busy it usually gets for lunch, but it was pretty crowded, and there was only 1 waitress working the tables while also tending bar as well. I must say, she did a fantastic job multitasking. She sat us quickly, took our drink order and managed to juggle about 8-10 other tables without anyone even having the slightest complaint. I ordered a cup of gumbo and a blackened shrimp po boy hero, both were very good, and very spicy. The extremely busy waitress even brought drink refills without being asked and always seemed to be in complete control. The only part of the meal that was disappointing was the price. I thought $60 (with a little over a 20% tip), was a little steep to 2 po boys, 2 cups of gumbo and 2 sodas ordered off a lunch menu. Food......4 stars Service......5 stars Price.......3 stars Nevertheless, the food was really good and the service was great. Having said that, I think I will be returning. read more

Went there with a friend. Had a great meal and drinks. We split 2 large main courses, the pig out and the jambalya. Both were excellent. Lots of food. Service was a bit slow, but it was crowded. Its a small place, but they seem to try hard to make the food fresh and serve it hot. The jambalya was spicy, lots of rice and good. The Pig-out had ribs, chicken, brisket and pulled pork. These two stars are based on the service I received today. This is my third visit too big daddy's as there food is absolutely delicious! thus why I keep coming back for more. However, don't expect to be served as well as there food taste. My first visit was a quick diner, which was excellent. I was in and out. Decided it was so good I came back the next day for brunch. Their brunch was delicious but there service after being seated was super slow. The bus boy kept asking to take our plates away after having our food served only 20min prior. I'm a slow eater so this was extremely annoying. In both occasions I sat at a table. Today I decided to seat at the bar, with thoughts that the services would be faster. The bar tender though generous with the alcohol payed more attention to the people she's knew then those waiting to order drinks/food. After about 5 minutes I was able to enter my drink order but it took 15 min to be able to get her attention again to enter my appetizer and entre. There was only 6 people at the bar. My appetizer came out 15 minutes later and I began to think maybe service would start looking up, I was wrong. It took an additional 40 minutes to get my entre of shrimp and grits with a fried egg. I received my shrimp and grits without the egg and after another 10minutes of waiting for a fried egg I decided to cancel it all together. Several order patrons placed orders after me which included eggs and came out before my order yet the kitchen couldn't get my order correct. This is baffling! One of the best restaurants on Long Island and you will hear me say that about only a few places. I've never been to New Orleans so I can't say they are the "real true deal" for sure, but I've been told the resemblance in taste is remarkably close and besides that, the food taste fantastic so screw the naysayers, who cares?!! :) Love is not enough to say how I feel about Big Daddy's. Infatuated obsession is probably more in the right ballpark lol. Years ago, someone took me there on a date and it was before my "adventures in eating" really began so the menu was intimidating at first glance. But one taste was all that was needed to make my taste-buds jump with joy and banish all other BBQesque meals from my palate. Since then I think I've suggested it for any date, birthday/special occasion out there (Just went for my birthday this past weekend.....4 years in a row now!). I won't, rather I CAN'T shut up about it. WARNING **THE FOOD IS SPICY IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPICE*** I felt just awful last year when I convinced my family to go and it ended up being too much, (to be honest they're wusses but def keep in mind when planning who to go with). The menu changes daily but they're pretty good with making you something that's not listed that night and have daily specials Monday-Friday. One of the coolest things is that in true New Orleans fashion they count down to mardi gras ending in a Fat Tuesday extravaganza buffet style for $35 per person (totally reasonable). Not cheesy or kitchy just a whole lot of fun. Also, look out for the possibility of Gator. I've only had the pleasure of eating baby alligator tail andouille sausage but OMG yum yum. The problem is they don't advertise it so be sure to ask. Drink menu, again, sticks with the theme offering drinks like Cyclone and Hurricane. They will knock you on your bum, just fair warning. This place is hard to find if you don't know the area. It's off a main road but pushed back from site with limited vision of the street signs. You'll find it though. Ignore the parking signs.......in almost 5 years I've never had my car towed. When you walk in it's a little divey, dim lit, small place, full covered in New Orleans garb, tables dressed in plastic picnic table clothes with Corona bottle flower "vases" (makes you wanna argue "hoedown/hootenanny"). They have live music on random nights which can be fun just not on a first date when you want to hear the other person. Water is served in mason jars and every table is affixed with Louisiana hot sauce. The staff is great and the same people have been there for years which shows me that not only do they treat their customers well, they do the same for their staff. MUST HAVE APPETIZER: PRETTY MEG'S CHICKEN WINGS. I want to take the sauce home and drink it with a straw. The mango chipotle sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The chipotle creeps up and gives your mouth a kick! MUST HAVE ENTREE- PIG-OUT PLATE. You should most likely share this with at least one person. My friend and I hardly put a dent into it and he and I can eat. This is the ultimate BBQ plate..... 1/4 roast chicken, half a rack of ribs, pulled pork so soft it melts in your mouth, brisket to die for and andouille sausage. Sides include homemade coleslaw (vinegar based not mayo), baked beans and cornbread that has jalapenos in it so again, bland food loving people move along. The two additional sauces are the Texas tomato based hot sauce and the south Carolina sauce. South Carolina is my favorite, tangy and makes the chicken perfect. The rest of the meat doesn't even need anything (but it never hurts). MUST HAVE PO BOY- CATFISH. Best catfish dish I've ever had. Puts the Bayou to shame really. Simply placed on a crunchy hero with coleslaw it's a spicy little bit of heaven in a sandwich. I highly suggest if you're around the neighborhood or passing by, stop in. Good food for the most part (very good service too). We had allegator bites and lobster bisque for appetizers. Both were great with the lobster bisque being one of the better ones I've had (and that's one of my favorite soups to begin with). I got some meat platter for an entree (I forgot what it was, but it was a bunch of different meats..brisket, ribs, chicken, etc.). It was decent - good. We were in the area today and searched Google maps to find a restaurant close. Big Daddy's was the first to pop up, and had some great reviews so we decided to give it a shot. Let me just say, I'm glad we did! Walking in we were seated immediately. The restaurant staff and waitress/waiters were all so attentive and friendly. Go to neighborhood place. Portions are huge (though heavy on sides vs protein). The menu changes daily (with some staples) so be on the look out. Favorites are Meg's wings, tiki toms scallops, vieux carre and habanero goat cheese grits (can eat a whole tub!!!). Drinks and apps are on the pricey side, especially since the appearance is divey but the food makes up for it. Other than the wings, we haven't cared for too many apps and the entrees are big enough that you can skip the apps all together. Everything is spicy so let them know if you can't take the heat and they will alter to accommodate or get the ribs (heard the chicken can be on the dry side) While all employees are friendly, service can be slow at times. They also don't take reservations for small parties on Fridays and Saturdays so be ready for up to an hour + wait during peak hours. Lunch menu is limited (mainly sandwiches) so keep that in mind if heading over early to avoide crowds. You also get Mardi Gras beads with each visit. Oh man, I loved this place!!!! The first time I came here it was packed out and the live band was kind of awful so we didn't stay. I came back this weekend with the BF and we got seated right away. The live music was much better and I was immediately expecting the best. We ordered the gator cake appetizer, the pig out for me and the burger challenge for the BF. It was apparent that there would be a significant amount of left overs for the next day (and as it turned out, the day after that too!) They brought out bread and homemade craisin pecan butter which was so good I asked the waiter to wrap it up so I could eat it for breakfast the next day. The gator cake was tasty and spicy but I wasn't a huge fan of the coleslaw that they had with it. It was a little too vinegary for my tastes. The pig out was fantastic and I only got about 1/3 of the way through each meat. There was chicken, andouille sausage, brisket, ribs and probably some other meats that I'm forgetting. It came with more coleslaw, baked beans and some of the best cornbread ever. The BF's burger was crazy! He beat the Cheeburger Cheeburger challenge but got spanked by this burger challenge. He said it was the jalapenos and the cheese that did him in. He didn't touch his sweet potato fries and made it about 2/3 through the burger. We took all the left overs home and I ate the rest of his burger for breakfast the next day. I am not joking, I was literally full from about 8:30am to around 2:00 in the afternoon just from the fraction of the burger I had for breakfast. All in all, this was a really great meal and the service was really friendly but not in a creepy, intrusive way. I had a great time from beginning to end and will be coming back often. This place is a GEM on LI!! I was so happy to walk in on a Friday night, hearing the Grateful Dead play until the live band went on. Their Hurricane's were good, but not like the ones in New Orleans at Pat O'Briens. A little darker/less strong. The staff were friendly ! Even though we waited 45 minutes for a table, still had a great time, and there is a great chill, crowd here!!!! I had the "Mighty Quinn Shrimp", which also came w/Crawfish tails. I went to Big Daddy's because a friend who loves southern creole food said they were great and boy were they right! The place is cozy and clean and the decor is fun with lots of purples, greens and yellows. It feels like you've just walked into the south (it sort of reminded me of Merlotte's if they decorated for Mardi Gras... True Blood fans will understand that), and the music really sets the mood, I was thoroughly enjoying the vibe of this place. I'd never had gumbo before so the waitress was happy to bring a taste over and WOW, I'll be going back if only for that! I also threw caution to the wind and decided to share a slice of the onion pie with my dad (he's an onion lover), it was awesome.
