Not good. Bland. Everything was fried. Staff was friendly, but that doesn't make up for poor quality food. We will not go back. Enjoy!!!

This is definitely not the Big E's of the past! Southern hospitality and graciousness do not apply to the current Big E's. Upon entry there were many tables in need of cleaning, so we sat at one thinking the server would take care of it. She came and directed us to sit at the only clean table, a table for a large group, in the center since the table we were at was dirty. We gave drink orders and went to the buffet bar. After some time the server had to return to ask about drinks again because she had forgotten what we requested. While we were eating we saw a couple come in and prepare their plates. As they were starting to sit down, the server told them that an entering pair of guests would be wanting to sit where they were. She instructed them to move to the next table. The food is the saving grace of this location. The southern style buffet is delicious! Their fried chicken (available daily) has a crunchy crust with moist meat inside that's not overly seasoned or too salty. The homemade mashed potatoes and other sides make a perfect plate. The rotating specials add variety to the buffet. I appreciate how smaller portions are added to the buffet regularly to keep food fresh. The restaurant is also clean and attractive. This restaurant has the potential to be perfect with better service. read more

This place is always full of people and I don't understan why. Service and staff are very good but the food is just ok at it's best. The buffet is horrible with foods being mushy and over cooked. The fish always has many bones in it making it hard to eat. It does look like they have a decent Oyster roast though. after 3 visits we have given up. Never again. read more

I don't know why I always see so many people here because it was not good. My husband and I decided to try it and we looked at the buffet which was $10 and passed on it because it didn't look that good. We thought ordering from the menu was a better choice. We ordered the fried seafood platter with fries, how bad could it be. 3 small scallops, over battered oysters, small shrimp and my flounder still had the skin on it. Yuck! I give it 2 stars only because our waitress was nice and the sweet tea was good. We will not eat there again. read more

I have eaten at the Beach since 1960,Started out in Calabash and all the other seafood places from Little River to South of Merrill's Inlet S.C, Big E,s is the greatest Southern, Soul food buffy anywhere. Go eat seafood somewhere else and pay $30.00 bucks or more, but go to eat the Buffy from 11:00 AM to 8:00PM and enjoy the great southern food they offer for a modest $7.75 and go early 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, if you don't want the buffy order onion rings and giant hamburger is great. If you are looking for GOOD southern cooking then this is the place. The menu varies each day so you might want to call to see what is on menu. $9.00 during the week and $12.00 on Sunday. Includes beverage and tax. The fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and pork chops are great. The vegetables are all good and the potato salad reminds me of home. Sadly, today was not a good buffet-day at Big E's. The 'que is dry and flavorless and even a little crusty on the top; the mac and cheese is mushy and cold, the hushpuppies are hard, too brown, really small (and also cold), and every veggie looks and tastes like it was dumped straight out of a can. We went there for dinner on 7/14/11. While the people were nice and friendly, the food was terrible. Between us we ordered two seafood platters and two FILET of flounder sandwiches. The sandwiches were inedible as was the flounder of the platters. FULL of bones. Not just one or two. We reported this to the waitress and spoke to the owner. She said that she has just changed vendors and there was the same problem with the previous one. The fish was not fresh but frozen. Has a very fishy taste. The fries were underdone. All in all a very bad experience. We were reinbursed for the sandwiches and part of the dinner. read more

We eat at Big E's every time we are near North Myrtle Beach. The lunch time buffet has fresh vegetables, wonderful fried chicken and other meats that change daily. It is a great value for about$7.00. The seafood platters and onion rings are also outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a really good meat and vegetable buffet or a very reasonably priced seafood platter or oyster roast in season. read more

Read a couple of negative reviews and wonder just what it would take to satisfy these people. For many years now, I have eaten there by myself, with family, friends, business associates and clients and never have I had or heard a complaint. From the owner to the busboy, the staff is very friendly and the food, what can I say, I grew up on Calabash Style Seafood and there is none better. The same goes for the noon country buffet. What more could anyone want from a restaurant than, friendly folks, good food and reasonable prices. Heck, I bet those writing negative reviews complain because the water in the ocean is salty!! Here on vacation and every time we went by the parking lot was packed so we came for breakfast ($22 later) Disappointed and won't be back. Coffee should have given us a clue; it was either instant or the cheapest regular you can buy. Breakfast potatoes were very dry, toast had no butter (but they gave us a basket with some kind of spread in it), sausage and cheese omelettes were strange, some kind of shredded yellow cheese that never actually melted.
