This is definitely a hidden spot to try in Fairfield. Its not a fancy place, sure but it definitely comfy and there is lots of seating inside and its clean. The staff who I believe own the place are really nice, and they know their menu well and know what people like and which items are popular. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu its a matter of preference. My husband and I both got Shawarmas I got the chicken which was a 9/10 for me, flavor seasoning, filling all on point. I've had this place on my radar for quite a few years now but for some reason I've never found myself going to the spot. Today was in the area and I finally decided to check this place out. About 15 ft away from the door I can already smell the good food that is cooking at this place. The doors are wide open and there was a couple of people eating right outside and walking inside I know it is just how much space there was. There's quite a few tables and this was during lunch time but a lot of people were also ordering to go. There's also places to eat behind the restaurant in a little courtyard area. I end up ordering their spicy chicken shawarma. While waiting for my order I noticed that there were a couple people that picked up to go orders and they seem like regulars here. They seem to have a really good vibe with the cook/owner, and that tells me a lot about a business when you see returning customers come in. Another thing I noticed too was that everything is cooked fresh here. They prepare each order as it is placed so you might have to wait a few minutes but it's definitely worth to trust me. About 5-10 minutes later I want to say I order was finally ready. I was kind of amazed at how big these shawarma was. It's actually a decent size and I really couldn't wait to sink my teeth in it. After getting to my eating spot I dove right in and then you can see the pictures tells the story. The shawarma is completely stuffed with well seasoned meat and vegetables which include lettuce tomatoes and onions. There's even a hint of some hummus in there and some other kind of spices which I don't know what tastes really good. The spice level is I want to say probably about a 4 out of 10 for me. Then again I'm the kind of person that can tolerate things such as Sriracha, hot chili paste, even roasted jalapenos. So if you can tolerate those and this would be like a 4 or 5 on the scale. Got a turkey sandwich. Awkward ordering if you've never been here before, menu is strangely laid out, sandwich toppings aren't what's expected, cashier is abrupt. He paid no attention to my bread and condiment requests, and seemingly instead made the sandwich how he'd prefer it. Disappointing. I left surprised this joint has 5 stars. I could believe the size of the sandwich, fully loaded Philly. Prices are more than fair. Napa deli on the other side on grass valley charges the same if not more for their small sandwiches. Got a pastrami sandwich on dutch, a Reuben, and a side of pasta salad. The pastrami was very tender and juicy. Very large portions and great value. Probably one of the better deli sandwiches I've had in a while, especially for the price. The tables were spaced out very well and there is both inside and outside dining. Big H Deli has become our date night spot. The place doesn't immediately stand out, so I'm gonna shout it out: YOU GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE!!! I usually don't try "everything" on the menu. I'm the type that "sticks to what I know". My favorite happens to be the beef shawarma wrap, which is extremely filling! You can also get it on a platter, but I think the wrap seems a little more authentic (IMHO). On the other hand, I've got a Hunny Bunny who has to try everything. So after sampling his order every time, I feel I've earned the right to critique the menu. That being said, everything was... Crickets! (no words!). Between the shawarmas and gyros, you can't go wrong with either one. The roast beef is also another favorite! The Mediterranean flavors of the ingredients they use create the perfect dinner menu for a warm summer night. Their dine-in option is sparse as quite a few tables were removed & re-distanced during the pandemic. No problem though as we are all gradually moving towards normality again. But this being a deli, it is the perfect spot to grab a delicious, hot meal before scouting out a nice picnic area or take home. The owner, Al, and his niece are very personable and are appreciative of their customers; although, I think the customers are more grateful for this tiny establishment serving great food. I was excited to have the opportunity to check out Big H Deli on a recent mini road trip, and it was about a 15 minute wait for an order placed at 4pm on a Saturday.
