I have been coming here for years to get coffee and bagels with cream cheese. Sometimes bagels and donuts. On Monday I went and I ordered coffee, a donut and a bagel with cream cheese and my order was to go. When I got to my office I was looking forward to eating my cream cheese bagel and what a total Disappointment. Hardly any cream cheese. CHECK YOUR ORDERS BEFORE YOU LEAVE AND DON'T GET RIPPED OFF. Service was friendly and I definitely OVERPAID for my order. Not much ambiance at 6am. Majority of customers were men rushing in and out with their food. There's women behind the counter so I didn't feel out of place. Had a very simple order.. 1) My lemon filled donut was lacking the *lemon fill* I opened up the donut to find at least 1 teaspoon of filling, if that this was an old donut 2) Breakfast croissant with ham, cheese and egg was over microwaved, some parts of my *thin* sandwich was hard and I wasn't able to eat it I say thin sandwich because it literally had 1 thin slice of ham, 1 cheese and 1/2 egg! I consider myself a glazed donut connoisseur. My favorite donuts are plain glazed and glazed twist. This place makes the absolute best of both. I do eat other varieties and they sell pretty much all the standard offerings. Everything they make is tasty but for me there is nothing better than a great glazed donut. The glazed donuts from here aren't flat or doughy. They are like little wonderful cakes glazed to perfection. Okay enough of me and my glazed obsession. They have another area favorite that they serve here. I try to stay away from pork so I was thrilled to find out they sell an egg, cheese, and pastrami breakfast croissant here. These things are delicious but you have to get there early because they only make so many and when they sell out they are gone for the day. It's a bummer when you miss them but this way you know you will always get a fresh one. The owners are a very nice couple and they have been there for years. Don't let the hoard of old asian guys hanging out in front scare you away. They are just a bunch of retired guys that love good donuts just like you. read more

I grew up right across the street from this place. I remember coming by here everytime I had a sweet tooth and they'd treat my family and I like loyal customers (which we were until we moved away). I haven't been here for years, but had a hankering for a donut and decided I'd go here due to nostalgia instead of Winchell's. Home sweet home. Filipinos still loiter, staring at you as you enter (some a little too creepily, which is ridiculous that you have to feel insecure about what you wear in SoCal just because some men can't, at the very least, DISCREETLY leer at you). There's always an array of donuts; there never seems to be a flavor out for the day so if you've got a favorite you'll have no problem having it. The donuts are crispy on the outside and soft, moist, and fluffy on the inside (perfect!). Their subs are delicious - I grew up eating their subs instead of Subway's and they're about the same price. Their blended drinks are comparable to other fast food shakes at about the same price! This place is my go-to for donuts when I'm in Long Beach. Low prices, great flavor! This little shop is not far from my house. It isn't located in the greatest strip mall. There are a lot of people just hanging around but for the most part they wont bother you. It is kind of fun to see the old guys playing chess. This place has great sandwiches - far superior to subway. The rolls are fresh and dense and tastes bakery fresh. The prices are good too. make sure to bring cash as they don't take credit cards. Every time I have gone the ladies behind the counter have given us extra donuts for free. The subs are much like what we call Italians in New England. Worth the trip for the sandwiches and the donuts. read more

So far this place has the best donuts in the area. They are made fresh and yeah the taste is pretty good. Better than other place it doesn't have that recycled oil taste that you can get if you fried a cake donut in it. The dough is nice and yeasty and the chocolate glaze is just right not to bitter and not overly sweet. The place is clean they serve other things like sandwiches, ice cream, coffee. I usually go to doughnut shops for just coffee and doughnuts, this place is an exception to the rule. These people make the yummiest sandwiches I've ever eaten, and I'm picky when it comes to sandwiches. Big John's has their sandwich-making down to an art form. The meat and veggies are carefully stacked, and the sauce is just about right. They may not have as many choices as a Subway, but the sandwiches they do serve can trump any if not all the sandwiches Subway has to offer. Unlike Subways, which has all the veggies in random areas and too much sauce it makes me sick, Big John's sandwiches are perfectly placed so that each bite has all the ingredients in it. Best part is that they can toast the bread for you too (if you're like me and prefer toasted over cold sandwiches)! And the breakfast sandwiches... well... there's a reason why they sell out of them. I myself love the pastrami and egg. Yeah, pastrami for breakfast! HELL YEA!!! And they can even make you sandwiches on bagels too if you prefer. Now on to the doughnuts.... It's really all about the glazed! Perfectly coated, perfectly shaped, and soooo delicious! And their donut holes are the mini version of the perfection that is the glazed doughnuts! And recently they just started to sell the blueberry donuts, which is so divine!! I used to be sad that I had to go all the way to the OC for blueberry, but the fact that they have blueberry doughnuts right here (AND IT TASTES BETTER!) just makes me dance for joy--literally!! The rest of the donuts are tasty as well, including the chocolate bars (drool!), maple, apple fritters (so bad for you, but so very good!), the cinnamon twists, and raisin rolls (ask them to heat it up! it tastes sooo good, especially on a cold day)! Coffee is a must for most of my mornings and the coffee here is surprisingly good. They have regular, hazelnut, strong, and cappuccinos if you don't feel like coffee. They even have blended coffee and fruit drinks for the frapp addicts. They can even mix it up for you if you prefer it that way. I've seen them mixing french vanilla cappuccino with coffee, mocha with coffee, hazelnut and regular coffee...etc. They are hard-core serious about pleasing the customer and will strive to give you what you want. I actually overheard a customer tell them that they cannot find another place that has the same great coffee. And its true! Honestly! I've actually grown addicted to their half vanilla cap with half coffee and I CANNOT FIND THAT SAME TASTE ANYWHERE!!! I've tried so many places whenever I had to travel, and no one can copy that specific vanilla/coffee taste that Big John's has. That's pretty much all i got to say about this place. Really, this place has only 1 review? Well, I'm glad I get to say that I'm the second to rate this place. It really is worth trying, even though it only has one review. The owners have been there for years and they know everyone. They've known people since they were kids! No joke! So it has a really great mom-and-pop shop feel to it. Wandered into this place after searching bagel shops in Long Beach. While the bagels didn't look like they were made right here, the Ham and Cheese croissant was phenomenal and a steal at $2.75. We also got two donuts which were awesome. Cash only here! All in all, a great donut shop. Nice little find on our way back from Manhattan Beach for sure. read more
