The knucklehead behind the counter asked me three times if I had a cell phone. It appears they don't have a menu and you have to scan a bar code to order. Walked by here one day and grabbed an ice hazelnut latte with almond milk on the go... noticed they offered food here too so I came back for a morning coffee and tried a bagel breakfast sandwich. In very little words and what you'll see everywhere in this little nook is... the bagel made me do it. Let me just describe how delicious it smells in the morning when you walk in. Their everything bagel is so fresh with great bagel texture, toasted with like five slices of bacon, cheddar cheese, and a thick piece of egg. Not only did this bagel make me do it, it also filled me up for the entire day. Or maybe it was the coffee... Asked for a 16 oz and again a hazelnut latte with almond milk and boy, was I on the go the entire day. Had so much energy and it really kept me going. The server I had was also awesome. You're visiting family and the morning finds you driving around alone, hungry. It's cold outside, a slight drizzle, and a crisp wind. You search the trusty Yelp for a breakfast spot. Lo and behold, a cafe appears in front of your eyes. Coffee? Sure. Oatmeal? A given. But then I spotted the bagel menu. Friends, there is one called the Dr. P. (it has nothing to do with the carbonated beverage). For that reason, you are reading this review. It is smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers (lots), tomato, and red onion in the middle of a Everything Bagel. I found street parking about a block away (granted this was the holiday season and many governmental buildings were closed). As I approached, the wind slapped my cheeks, the sound of a jackhammer filled my ears, and the smell of something wonderful filled my nostrils. I walked in ready for anything. There I found a bicycle on the wall as well as a pull-up bar. I saw people in dress casual outfits discussing business and people in sweats just starting the day. I swear I was smiling the entire time I placed my order. I am grateful the order list was short, as one person (owner and operator) was fielding all of them. But I took the time to walk around, snap a few photos, and just take it all in. Soon enough my order was ready and I walked hurriedly to my vehicle. The original plan had been to drive back to where I was staying (20 minutes away), but I made the mistake of opening the container. It couldn't wait. The salmon was layered higher than the snow on the ground and the capers were overflowing. I knew time was of the essence. I undid my seatbelt, turned down the music, and consumed every morsel. There is only one adjective I can derive to describe this experience; cascading. It is flavor after flavor after flavor. It does not stop, it does not weaken. And I was in love. I must have another. Walked in with my husband on a Friday morning. We aren't very familiar with that part of town, yet, but we were hungry and saw the sign, so gave it a shot. We walked in and the gentleman behind the counter asked if we had already ordered. We told him we hadn't, and he said, "Ok" and turned his attention back to what he was doing. We thought maybe there would be a menu inside to look at rather than going online, first. Once we saw that there wasn't a menu, we jumped online to place our orders. The format is simple enough to follow. There isn't really anything difficult or time consuming about it. There's even a place to add a note. In my note I had asked for crispy bacon. That's honestly my only "complaint" while visiting this location. I hoped the bacon would be cooked separately as to get the whole piece very well done. Rather, it was cooked extra while already piled onto the egg. I didn't know this until I got home, so honestly, nothing says he wouldn't have done it over for me if I'd have asked. The pricing was more than fair for the quality of the product. And, while our interaction was brief and to the point, nothing about the gentleman's demeanor said anything but he was proud to be doing what he was doing. He was pleasant with other customers coming and going, too. We will definitely be back. But, maybe this isn't the place for you if you need your hand held or flattering words tossed in your direction for a bagel. read more

We, apparently like many others, missed the note about ordering online. But there is a small vestibule with signs that explain the process. So we snapped the QR code and ordered our sandwiches 30 seconds before stepping inside. Lenny asked if we had ordered, I told him yes, and he said it would be about 10 minutes. I suspect that he works non-stop the entire time the store is open, and with no other employees doesn't have the time to wash up and walk customers through their orders. The results were delicious and well worth the quirky ordering process. Different than a NY style bagel (less chewy / crusty, more flavorful) with thick crispy bacon on the Main Street, and piled high with smoked salmon on the Dr P. I wish we lived close enough to make this a weekend tradition. read more

My traditional visits began back in April 2021 when we were staying at the George Washington Inn for my husband's job interview that would ultimately move him to Winchester. This is my 4th visit from Northwest Ohio to our second home here and Lenny has come to expect to see me! I laughed, I cried, I went through all the emotions with Big L. Quirky and odd--only 2 kinds of bagels that were really some sort of Bialy. Both flavors were suitably 'meh'. Coffee below average. Owner had to point out that my wife and I were wearing matching footwear. Not true except the color. I guess it could have been worse if we were both wearing jeans. That would have crossed his fashion 'sense'. I don't really look for a side of sarcasm early in the morning but you'll get it here. It's a unique scent and it got my tummy rumbling. I ordered the bagel, with cream cheese and sliced tomato. It was brought to my table a few minutes later. My boyfriend and i were visiting here for the first time and we will definitely not be returning. The environment was not welcoming at all and the staff weren't friendly. My wife and I travel from Baltimore to West Virginia on a regular basis. We found Lenny's den of bagels, Steamy's, a number of years ago. This is definitely our go to! Maybe we got lucky and caught Lenny on a good day or maybe we are just not asshats, but we have never had a bad experience. Lenny treats us like friends and is willing to have a chat, business willing. By the same token, I have been in on holidays when he is working alone, this is not the time for small talk. We try to be respectful of the man trying to make a living. I would recommend this place to everyone, except asshats. Just be courteous and 'today' order online. It's not hard. Well, I guess we are at an impasse, Lenny. No matter what I say you're going to refute that you were rude to us or that maybe the signs could be problematic. Which, by the way, when someone is rude to me, is really the only time I feel it necessary to give my opinion on just about anything. I'm a pretty laid back person. You'll also continue to call me names, which really says more about your character than mine. I suppose you just think I'm a terrible person for providing my opinion about my experience in your establishment. It's not like we're on an application dedicated to talking about experiences or anything... oh wait. Let me just clarify for anyone who may be reading this, I never accused Lenny of "yelling" at me directly. I got that information from the folks who were there just before us. What did happen, was that Lenny was just plain rude to us. He also apparently feels like everyone should take 40 minutes before walking through the door of his business to read his bulletin board of signs, and is quite unforgiving if you happen to walk past them because they don't actually look like they are associated with the business. Lenny, I suppose for the time being, I'll just be happy about the fact that your business isn't in my state and it's not likely that we should ever need to encounter one another. I will say though, if you're ever in Colorado, feel free to let me know. I would be happy to treat you to lunch at a place that has, not only excellent food, but great customer service. This review is based on our first and only experience at Steamy's. We are from out of town and we're looking for a quick to-go breakfast. From everything we can tell based on reviews, the bagels here are great (they looked and smelled delicious). We did not, however, end up ordering. We walked into the store and looked around for a menu. The gentleman working acknowledged us and asked if we placed our order. We hadn't (and didn't realize we needed to, having just set foot in the store). We asked how we order, and he pointed to the front of the store to some flyers hanging with a website. Great. Not the most welcoming direction, but that didn't turn us off. He then proceeded to tell us he couldn't help us until we placed an order. Again, okay- we were working on it. We placed the order via phone and it was super easy. As soon as we submitted the order, we realized neither of the workers were wearing gloves nor masks. This made us uncomfortable and we asked them to cancel the order. Frankly, we were extremely disappointed by both the demeanor and lack of sanitation procedures by Steamy's and won't be back. I'm willing to look past the worker's attitude, as I've been in food service and also had bad days. If you simply start wearing a mask, this review would have been better. read more

Was excited about this place after seeing the number of stars and positive reviews. Let's start with the food. It was actually pretty good. The bagels are made on site and well cooked and flavored. The drinks were super small portion and overpriced, but well crafted. But a huge aspect to any establishment is the service. The gentleman making the sandwiches (and incidentally the owner) was one of the most rude and inconsiderate individuals I've ever run into at a restaurant or coffee shop. When traveling out of town during pandemic, we try to support local businesses, especially restaurants. Found this restaurant on Yelp and gave it try. A little confusion with name of establishment as the business is listed as Steamy's but there were signs for Big L Bagels and Steamy's Cafe inside. Yelp listed inside dining and more food options, neither were available. Understandable since pandemic restrictions and orders are fluid day to day. As we waited for food, we saw the gentleman preparing the food pleasantly greet customers. When our order came up, he was short and evasive about business name. Maybe because we were strangers. Nevertheless, it is put off after seeing him exchange pleasantries with others. He also opted not to wear a mask while preparing food and simultaneously talking to customers. He did wear gloves. The interior of this place is little funky but it goes well with their concept! Only 2 people were working behind the counter but our food came our fairly fast. We really wanted to try their coffee but i overheard the cashier/barista saying that only regular was available. This place does not have a private lot but we did not have any issues finding a spot. Our 2 sandwiches came out to around 15 dollars which was not bad at all for the quality of the food we received! My husband and I came here on a Sunday morning following a one night stay in Winchester. We walked in and after 10 minutes realized we were supposed to use the QR code to pull up the menu and place our order. The interior of this small shop was literally enough space for maybe 4 people at the maximum to stand and wait for their food. There was a bar to sit up at by the window overlooking the street but no seating was allowed and seating farther back in the restaurant was closed off. The gentleman behind the counter was busy fulfilling all of the orders for the restaurant. It was clearly a one man show. We figured he was the owner. After he realized we had no clue what we were doing he ended up taking our order verbally. We could tell he wasn't pleased but we didn't know better at the time. I ordered a loose chai tea and a bagel with butter while my husband had a coffee and a bagel breakfast sandwich. As well known as they were in the area, the prices were reasonable. Once we received our order we walked back into town and found a seat in the sun to enjoy our breakfast. The food was delicious. The drinks were warm and satisfying as it was a very chilly morning.
