Lets give this place a 3.5 Stopped by this place on the way to LAX. It is very clean. Tons of TV playing football. Meat and sports: what a great combo. Glad I made it before the mad lunch rush. Is there no other place to eat in El Segundo? Ordered 12" cheesesteak. Provolone baby. Asked for the hot peppers on the side. It was big. It was filled with tons of nice thinly sliced meat. WOW. I ended up eating just half. But it was due to the great garlic fries. I am not sure where the pickles came from. Didn't ask for it. Snooki I am not. Maybe next time, I will remember to ask for no pickles. I love places that load up on garlic when you order garlic fries. Yes the garlic fries will haunt you for awhile. Bring lots of gum. But the fries were crispy and good. Big Mike's has become one of my favorite local quick and tasty eat locations in all of El Segundo. Having zero experience of eating a real Philly cheese steak all I can say is I would be surprised if you could find a tastier sandwich than this! One bite and you'll be hooked! When I give 5 stars, it means I crave the place. I crave the sandwiches at Big Mike's. They make a meatball sandwich that is as good as I have ever had. I've had a lot! Their Italian sandwich is great especially when you make it a prosciutto. I'm not going to judge their Phiily Cheese Steak because I'm not from Philly but, I like it. If I get my groove going and start to do the protein diet, Big Mike's has a complete menu for me. Big Mike's is authentic and it's clean. They get you your order quickly and it's fresh. The Italian beef was not bad, but way to expensive. And it definitely needed more seasoning and salt. The real problem was the garlic parm fries, they simply sucked. They were mushy and utterly tasteless. Fries need to be crispy to hold up to a wet garlic paste. For $3.95 a big waste of money. read more

Good Philly Cheese place and was very surprised by the amount of food for the cost. The area wasn't too hard to park, went during the weekday during lunch hour with workmates. Sometimes the parking can get a little full but most part I found parking nearby on the street if necessary. Initially ordered the footlong sandwich by itself and I found that thing to be very filling and good (but was unable to finish the sandwich). I've made return visits and ordered a 6 in sandwich and the garlic fries. I personally like the garlic on my fries but it may take some people by surprise. They don't stick to the fries though but it doesn't bother me. I find that combo set was enough to keep me full. Sometimes if you are in a large group during the lunch hour you may have difficulty finding seating, but there is seating outside. I haven't had too many issues with service (the lady behind the counter has always been courteous) , but when you are outside, you may not hear your number being called sometimes. read more

I've been here twice while on training in the area and it is a great cheese steak place. You can pick between different toppings (I chose the grilled peppers) and different cheeses. I had the combo cheese steak with grilled peppers. The peppers tasted like they were dunked in rooster (Sriracha) sauce which was good but a bit odd as well. I also have tried the cheese fries with cheese wiz as well as the cheese steak with wiz and it reminded me of my childhood slathering cheese wiz on everything. I don't quite understand the mediocre reviews. Big Mike's makes the best Philly Cheese Steaks in the Southbay. I always order mine with grilled onions and provolone, then i'll add in some jalapenos or peppers myself for a little kick. Just awesome. You'd be hard pressed to find a better philly cheese steak sandwich in the greater Los Angeles area. If you like heaps of meat and cheese on bread complimented with the just the right amount of veggie fixings, then look no further. I think the secret is the jalapenos they put in the sandwich, it adds just the right amount of spice. The size of the sandwich is spectacular go for the largest they offer and you'll leave there barely able to walk. It's truly a "man-wich!" Another plus is the price. If I recall correctly the largest philly they offer is priced $8-$9, not a bad deal, considering the quality of the ingredients. Oh and on a side note, they also serve up a great order of garlic fries. I've been going here for years and have always been happy, but not super frequently, so each time I'm almost surprised all over again how good it is! I usually get the combo cheese steak with grilled onions, which I did again today and it was PACKED with meat. Delicious! Having eaten at both locations, this one gets the bump because it's easier to get to and it has parking. Oh, and I saw Frodo there once. So a solid +2 on that front. Quite possibly the home of the best cheesesteak in Los Angeles, but that's not much of a battle, regardless it's at the top of my list and like two other people I know, so that should be enough evidence, at least in Maritime Law. Best Philly Cheesesteak west of Philly.. I have been here to many times to count and consider them the Best! Yes the onions are grilled to perfection and with the incredible hot or the sweet peppers and my favorite the pickles that have a great taste and crunch .There a sandwich pickle like no other.But as Mike has told me it's the meat makes it.It has to be the freshest and leanest and with the fresh rolls that all you need .. We stumbled on Big Mike's because we were staying at a nearby airport hotel. WOW! Their Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches were amazing. I've been to Pat's and Geno's several times and I must say, if I could combine the bread they use at Pat's with the rest of the goodies they use at Big Mike's, I'd have a perfect Philly. The blend of peppers, cheese wiz, etc was perfect. But for some reason the bread seemed stale. I plan on going again next time to see if the bread is better. I am a big fan of Big Mikes since I started working at LAX about 3 years ago. It has been a 'go to at least once a week for lunch' type of spot for me. The philly cheese steak is the best...I usualy order it with fries and end up stuffing my cheese steak up with fries (added veggies to make it healthier ;-)...which brings me to why I did not give it 5 stars.... They recently changed their fries....from a fatter 3/4" natrual cut type to a new thinner "freshly cut" type...While many may prefer the "fresh cut" fries better....I think the new ones are too thin and the old fries had a way better taste to them....I almost dont even feel like stuffing these fresh thin fries in my cheesesteak...I said almost! Before I would stuff half the fries in the sandwich then eat the other half....now I just end up throwing most of them away... So all in all...5 starts with the old fries.....4 starts with the new fries... Bring back the old fries!!!! Please!!!! Also please turn on the AC on those super hot days...not only for your customers but for your poor workers.... Anyways I Love Big Mikes and recomend it to everyone I know. read more

Reeealy good cheese steaks are uncommon. Big Mikes is pretty damn good. Fresh rib-eye is grilled up. Huge meaty cheesy goodness served on fresh baked french rolls. Awesome with hot and sweet peppers. Bacon cheese fries are sweet sin. The fries are crunchy and spiked with seasoned salt. The whiz is warm, thick, holds well, creamy. Sooooo good. read more

Used to be a place with good food and rude customer service but my last experience was pretty bad. I'm usually not picky but I hate the taste of pickles and the flavor sticks on to everything even if you take them out. I'm not one to waste food wait here but when my sandwich has pickles all over it after I specifically said no pickles I told them my sandwich has pickles and I said I didn't want any. All they did was take off the pickles from my sandwich and gave it back. Are you serious? I could have done that. I hate that the flavor sticks on to the sandwich so I wanted you to remake it not just take off the pickles. I just ate it because I knew there was no point to argue with stupid. This sandwich was artistically done, it doesn't look like much but they have been working on this recipe for generation it seems like. The bread was so soft it must have been back there if it wasn't they must have the best bakeries somewhere nearby I will have to come back sometime soon. read more
