I've been going to Midas for years. It's an authentic neighborhood garage. Paul and his team are knowledgeable, but also super kind.

I routinely get my Oil Change on my Older 2006 Accord EX @ Jiffy Lube on University Avene near 10th. St. in Berkeley where I've always found the Staff to be Very Polite & Professional. Plus - they had an online Coupon for $ 12.00 this time to round it down from their new higher price of maybe $ 72'ish. However - MIDAS seemed to Advertise a Great $ 39.99 Deal Online. Upon Googling the ,' Nearest Location to Albany ' - I found a Store in El Cerrito near to Central Avenue on San Pablo Avenue about 3 weeks Ago. Mr. Paul , the Store Manager, was Polite on the Fone - Informing me that he could handle my request the same day if I reached there within about 30 minutes which I did. Upon arriving- I was greeted by Mr. Mirani who seemed an old hand @ the Trade having owned a Midas Store himself in the Past. S..o..o I decided to sign ' The Work Order '. I may've reached the store around 1:30 - 2p.m.'ish. Was informed there would be a wait as they had other vehicles ahead of me. I had only had 1700 miles since my last change around 04/25, but Of Course most Shops I've talked with Inform me that there is yet another ' consideration ' involved ' which is ' Oil Viscosity Breakdown ,' from Car sitting in Park Mode !!! As it's an Older Vehicle I toil hard to maintain - I will usually bring it in for an Oil Change as soon as the 15% Oil Life lamp on the Dash lights up. Since it was my first visit for an Oil Change - I asked the Staff present what brand and weight of Oil they use. To my ,"" UTTER SHOCK & Chagrin," the STORE MGR., Mr. PAUL retorted : " @ the Price you are paying it shouldn't matter !!! To this comment I retorted : " I shall remember that " !!! The above " Unprofessional'ism " put a " Bad Taste in my Mouth " !!! That comment was Unexpected & Uncalled For - Especially as the same Indovidual had been Very Polite & Professional thus far. In fact about a week prior - I had called as ' An Acquaintance ' stated her Muffler needed Replacement, and Mr. Paul had offered a hassle free ' Fone Quotation ' !!!! Whilst there , a Shop Hand ' had approached me to know where my wheel lock key was placed in the Car that indicated to me that a Tire Rotation might be Included with the Oil Change. S..o..o the next time I saw the Store Manager , Mr. Paul , in the Front Office where I was offered to wait on the Couch. He confirmed that ' Yes it is '. I shared I'd gotten my Newer TIRES quite Recently from San Pablo Tire & Wheel on 23rd. St. quite recently. Mr. Paul ,: " Oh U mean ' One Of those Places ' - whatever that means !!! Been goin' there forever, and the New as well as past owners have always been Very Honest & Reliable for me sans " SARCASTIC Comments " !!!! I had Good Luck @ a MIDAS Store in Sunnyvale on El Camino Avenue during Covid - 19 on July 4th. 2020 whilst attending a Wedding in Santa Clara. I remember they'd worked on my Brakes & Struts since I'd found the Ride ' A tad Bumpy ' !!!! The Owner-Operator was Awesome applying various Coupon Specials and Driving me to Grab some Lunch as Promised. My parents and I have been coming here for years. I haven't had to come really with my new car since 2017 it has been running really well. Midas and Paul have always been very honest and upfront. I knew I needed new brakes pads and that my cabin filters were due for changing. I only mentioned the brakes because those were squeaking and were a constant reminder that they were due. Once they took a look at my car they called me at the time they said they would to tell me what my car needed. Front and rear brakes and cabin and engine filters. They gave me a time my car would be ready and it was ready to go right on time! They even saved the filters to show me how filthy they were! (One had leaves in it!) For parts and labor it was $930 but I have always appreciated the great customer service and honesty here. Also, they quickly fixed my glove compartment that no longer had any resistance to it and was falling after the filter cleaning. Took 5 seconds to reclip what they missed. People are nice and pleasant to talk to. My one star is over price for oil change. I read about the 39.99 oil change.Stupid me did not mention the 39.99 deal to man who wrote up my request. 45 minutes later car finished and cost about $120 dollars. So make sure they give you a price before you sign. and tell them you want standard. oil change I forgot that too. read more

Friendly folks, but they couldn't give me a quote on some services. There is no reason they can't provide a quote for something like a transmission fluid change and a brake fluid change, they would only provide a price range estimate although they knew my car make, model, and year. Anyways, I shopped around and found that some services were cheaper at Midas so I got work done here. They estimate a certain amount of time for the work, but it took a few hours longer than quoted. read more

After moving up here from Los Angeles, I needed my brakes checked. I had used a Midas in Los Angeles for over 20 years because of their fine service and because they more often than not, sent me home saying, not time to fix or repair anything yet. I called Paul at this shop and he told me to just drive over and not worry about an appointment. He got me in right away, took time to say hello to my huge dogs, and then let me know that my brakes were just fine and I was good to go for months. Great service is important but honest service combined with great service, now that is something special. I went to midas to het some work corrected from another place called Berkeley Auto service. The new owner is a horrible crook. He was so shady I did not want to bring it back to him to correct the work he did. I called a couple of places but when I called Midas in El Cerrito "Paul" made me feel very comfortable. He has great customer service skills off the top so I gave him a chance. He fixed my tie rod issue, he put 4 new tires, wheel alignment and oil change. He had it back to me same day. I was really happy with that because we need the vehicle daily. I was also happy with the work done. There was only one thing. It slightly would go to the right. I called Paul back and he told me to bring it back and he would take care of it. I took it in and in hours I had it back. The steering is perfect. Je was hassle free and took good care of me. I feel confident with the service and I would recommemd going to this location for auto service. I tried to give Berkeley Aito a chance because I use to go there. Paul (the owner) is extremely helpful. I took my car in for four tires, an alignment, tune up, oil change, and fuel filter replacement. It turned out that my front axles were horrible and if not replaced were a safety hazard. Paul called and not only explained the situation, but made sure to show the axles to me when I picked my car up so I could see the reason for replacement. I arrived at midas at 3 pm I came to midas to get my striped bolt replaced in my tire paul would not even look at it. He refused to touch it since someone else had done the work. So this leads us to conclude that midas only works on new factory cars. Their simply unreliable as my first mechanic. Or lack the experience to do a good job. read more

I'd highly recommend that you not be an idiot like me and get up sold (an air filter in my case) on $hit you don't really need. My $29.95 deal for an oil change turned into an $80 bill --- partly due to my stupidity, but mostly due to their slick up selling. I was told my air filter was really dirty and that a new one would help with my car's fuel economy. I later found out that most air filters costs no more than $25 to replace, for which they charged $45. Also, the claim of better fuel economy was debunked --- I still get the same MPG when I checked over the span of the following week. I am definitely not going back. read more

"Honey, you don't need new brakes" Wait, what?! You mean you don't want to sell me brakes, upgrade them to the super expensive ones, sell me more brake fluid, change my rotors and sell me a refrigerator? And he showed me my brake pads, and he was right. Didn't need them. All I needed was my rotors trued and I was set! Back in September 2020, I purchased a set of 4 tires from this merchant. The purchase came with a warranty. About a week ago my tire light came on and I went to the merchant to see why after getting air, my light still came on. The owner asked me to pull up so he could check my tires. I had 3 kids in the car. The merchant kept wandering around, chatting with workers and customers. After 20 minutes of observing him mill around I left. I felt he was dismissive and nonchalant. I returned during the week and he checked the tires. He advised that my rear tire had a nail and he put air in it. He didn't have time to repair and asked I return at 8 am. I feel he was unconcerned for my well being when he sent me off. I ended up taking my car to my neighborhood tire company and they took care of the nail . I was in and out 10 minutes. I will never give this Midas my business. Poor Customer service. read more

While on the road yesterday on my way home from Monte Rio to Carmel, literally mid way, my truck was making an awful sound.
