This is one of my fave neighborhood BBQ joints, I've been here several times and my tummy has never been disappointed. You can just get a meal and for what you pay, you get a pretty good amount of food and it's delicious! The ribs are amazing and their cornbread.... the softest and moistest I've had in a looooong time, I hate when I get cornbread and it's all dry and crumbly... tastebud kill (eyeroll). Personally, I like getting some of the corn bread. Dipping a little bit of BBQ sauce then grabbing some beans for a perfect yummy little bite. Service is alway friendly, I usually call in ahead of time for a pick up and it's always run smoothly. LOCAL GEM! First timer, Picked up their family deal with 2 stacks of Ribs and a whole ass chicken! Everything was nicely packed and they gave you everything you needed to eat comfortably. Not much flavor, served fries that sat under a heat lamp for at least 20 minutes. I asked for fresh fries, but was told they are made fresh to order. That was. It the case as I saw mine sitting there before I ordered and as I waited for the rest of my party. Then they put more fries under the heat lamp, which set for 15 minutes before a customer even came in. The other person in my party said the meat lacked seasoning and the corn read was not even as good as the cheap boxes of corn bread. We both didn't finish our meals and look forward to good bbq. BBQ should never be refried on a griddle top. For the prices being charged, the food needs to be fresh. Day old tritip drowned in BBQ sauce is not real BBQ. When I'm ever out in pacoima I always make it a point to stop by big pops BBQ. They have some seriously good barbecue at this place which is a small hole in the wall. Not much room to eat in but there are a couple of tables in a small countertop. sides our well done 2. I would not hesitate to stop again in here in the future. For the location it probably deserves five stars. But realistically I'm giving this place three! I had the food to go, so this review is solely based on the food. Big Pop's BBQ doesn't exactly look like a great BBQ places, but its surprisingly pretty decent. I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It came with coleslaw as well as seasoned fries. The fries were a little bit dry and hard. The coleslaw was pretty ordinary. I liked the Pulled Pork sandwich however. The BBQ sauce wasn't overly sweet like some places make it. And the pork was quite tender. The sandwich was pretty decent, but might not be that filling for a large eater. I typically eat multiple small meals a day, so a meal that's perfectly filling for me lets me know that the portions might be too small for a regular eater. Overall, the food is decent. With not very many other good options around, Big Pop's is worth a second visit; especially if I'm in the mood for BBQ. read more

Excellent food. The Tri-Tip sandwich was fantastic. All the food was hot and freshly made, so you can tell that they are serious about delivering quality food to their customers. The owner happened to be there at the time, and upon hearing that it was our first time, graciously invited us into the back to see the kitchen and taste a sample of the Tri-Tip. I was glad that I ordered a tri-tip sandwich after that little sampling. We always would drive by and wonder if was any good, and when we saw that Yelper's gave this great praise, we had to try it... It all happened on a weekend day and the fiance was craving pulled pork. Big Pop's isn't a huge place... So don't expect a large room for dining tables and whatnot. The only seats I see are waiting seats (for take-out) and a table along the left side with stools. The place smells of all kinds of BBQ and fried chicken deliciousness. We got the BBQ tri-tip sandwich and BBQ pulled pork sandwich... Along that we got a 12-piece fried chicken wings, which came with a side of buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. Our sandwiches also came along with fries and coleslaw. Everything was delicious! As a Kansas City native, I have to say that this place's BBQ reminds me of home. Hell, the ribs were some of the best I've ever had. Or at the very least the best I've ever had in LA. The fries and cornbread were also on point. And as someone that does some volunteer work with the LAFD, it was cool to see their love for firefighters displayed on the wall. The only two downsides I could see from the place was that the bbq beans weren't that good, to me at least. And that they close too early. Would love it if they stayed open another hour. read more

Not only an AMAZING barbeque, but a very unique and one of a kind experience. I recently wanted to thank my local firefighters at station #91 in Sylmar for all of their constant dedication to all of us here in Sylmar. I won't mention the call I made at 4 in the morning on Tuesday that brought the boys out for no worthwhile reason. Sorry about that boys. Enough said about our local hero's!! Let me get to the story of why everyone should try Big Pops Barbeque. That following Monday after work I stopped by and met with Pops, and told him I wanted to do something special for the guys at the local #91. Turns out Big Pops takes care of many of the local stations and has a huge fan base, one of whom I met while I was there "Captain Freddie." The following Saturday Pops not only assisted me in putting together a wonderful meal , which included Pork Ribs which literally melts in your mouth (YUMMY), barbecued chicken, beans, potato salad, corn on the cob and their homemade cornbread.......he also made a Chicken Caesar Salad enough for all and followed me to the station with the salad. Even Captain Freddie stopped by the station. After a short visit and dropping off the food, I headed home with one of their delicious Rueben Sandwiches for myself. Quite a day.... This is not true BBQ where the meat is smoked, but grilling and adding BBQ sauce. The tri-tip sandwich came with a choice between mild or hot BBQ sauce. I picked mild which still made me sweat. With that much heat, it was hard to taste the meat or maybe the meat didn't have any flavor. There were also some tough bits in the meat. The collard greens had more onion flavor than a French onion soup which made it difficult to palate. The seasoned fries were the best item I tried. The fries were large wedges with a thick, crunchy outer coat. Just be careful when you eat them because potatoes that large stay super piping hot. read more

Cal. However there is hope. Big Pop's BBQ does beef, pork and chicken with aslightly spicy, lip smacking tart BBQ sauce not seen by other BBQ joints nearby. I admit that i've never been a fan of pulled pork, only because i've never actually tried it before. So thank goodness my brother introduced me to this hidden little jem in Pacoima, California. We ordered a rack of pork ribs, which included decent amount order of fries, 2 small corn breads and way too small of containers of greens and coleslaw. The ribs were great! Good flavor and falling off the bone. Between the 4 of us there was nothing left. Fries were really good. Corn bread was not too corny and it was moist. I'm glad my boys don't like greens or coleslaw there would have not been enough. I made my own corn to fill them up. We will definitely go back for the ribs. The BBQ was good but not great. I had the pork ribs and they were pretty decent. It came with seasoned fries, they were a little dry, potato salad which tasted too sweet, baked beans that tasted like they came from a can, cornbread which tasted like it came from a box too and we ordered two extra sides of corn which had no flavor and were really mushy, tasted like frozen corn on the cob. Service was friendly and place was clean. The food would be so much better if they worked on their sides. This place definitely has potential. read more

Big Pop's BBQ is my go to place for BBQ. I have not once left unsatisfied with what I had ordered. Their pork ribs are easily the best I have ever had. They are juicy and chewy but not to the point where the meat slides of the bone. The tri-tip is heavenly, i wish I could order it by the pound. Every bite is always right. The chicken wings a dry and crispy, but surprisingly addicting. The cornbread might as well be desert with its soft flaky texture. The links have a good kick to them and go down just as easily as all of Big Pop's food. However the two best aspects of Big Pop's are the sauce and the Mac & Cheese. The Spicy sauce is delectable, but not very spicy. It is the kind of spicy where you taste it but it doesn't dominate the entire flavor portfolio of the food item you are eating. And that Mac & Cheese. I have never had better and doubt that I ever will. I always order some every time I go. The way they mix the cheese, it's not some afterthought sauce but the main attraction.
