I'm torn as they are between a 3 and 4. The restaurant is large with plenty of room for large groups. Clean with reprints of various native Americans and western art on the walls. You order at the desk in the back and then take your tray of food to sit down. At 4PM on a Thursday, no problem. Several takeout orders were observed. I had the meat combo (your choice) that consisted of a spare rib, a baby back rib, two slices of brisket and a hot link. Two sides with potato salad and beans. By the way, the owner offered me a small sample of the pulled pork. So here is the verdict: Overall I sensed the meat had been smoked earlier in the week. Both (large sized) ribs looked dry but turned out meaty and flavorful. Used two sauces to moisten the meats. The brisket was a lithe fatty and dry. The worse if the bunch was a very, very dry sausage. I couldn't finish it. The beans had the right amount of brown sugar and molasses. The potato salad was very good with yellow mustard and dill. So all said, I'm torn. Service was friendly and good. Some of the food was just right while parts were not. Will I come back, probably not. I have too many highly-rated and favorite BBQ places in my collections. But, if you're local, you may want to give Big Stuff a try. read more

Catering communication before and after the wedding was terrible and the owner was/is very combative. The owner also doesn't keep track of customer payments, which leads to disorganization. My mother-in-law dealt with Big Stuff BBQ directly, but I was aware of the lack of communication months before the event and only recently found out what happened on the day-of and how the owner was combative and privately harassed my mother-in-law (via text) a few days after. In short, communication was so bad that they never answered texts, calls, or voicemails, so we had to walk in anytime we needed to contact them. In the beginning, chafing dishes were said to be available to borrow, but later we were told we had to pay for them. We were fine with paying, but the owner/staff was very wishy-washy about whether or not they were available, so we paid for our own somewhere else. On the day of the wedding, my mother-in-law's friend showed up to pick up the food and was charged for the chafing dishes and for the $520 that my mother-in-law had already paid three weeks before, for a total of $700. Then the owner had the nerve to ask my mother-in-law to show proof that she had paid, even though she was at her son's wedding. Mother In Law left an average negative google review a few days ago and when the owner saw it he started harassing her privately claiming she is "bashing" and his restaurant online. Took zero responsibility and said we were the issue because we "kept trying to get something for nothing" even though we already paid.. read more

The owner had the nerve to text me last night and harass me for an hour because of my negative reviews. They provided food for my son's wedding but couldn't find the proof that I had already paid them and charged my friend $700 the day he picked up the food even though I had paid for everything over a month before. Pleasantly surprised!! To start, the service is first class, very attentive and friendly hostess/wait staff/owners. Best BBQ and* sides in the surrounding area! Primo Brisket and pulled pork were juicy and flavorful. The meat was not drenched in sauce and mixed with fat. They were stand alone, high quality pieces with original tasty sauces on the side. The seasoned fries were cooked to perfection and the homemade potato salad and coleslaw were the best I've ever tasted!They're are not afraid of flavor and spice, yum!! The fresh brewed ice tea was also very refreshing. The dining area was a little confusing at first, but big and spread out, making our experience even more enjoyable. I am a foodie and I love me some good bbq. Menu was extensive. How do you fix over salted food? Beef, aka brisket was dry and over salted,, ribs also way too much salt, but the coleslaw was good, hard to mess that up. Service was okay if you like arguing, I thought the customer was right most of the time especially when you specifically ordered no seasoning on your fries. I've had some really good bbq from Eugene to Salem including food trucks. Wasted most of this plate of bbq to the trash. Sorry, not sorry to say I won't be back. Always a great place for BBQ. The pulled pork and the pork ribs are my favorites, but everything else is good too. The BBQ sauces are very good, some spicey, some hot, some sweet and smokey, All yummy. The fries are excellent and extra crunchy. They used to serve beer and the last time I was there they were unable to sell beer, so that was sad. They also do not have Coke products and I like coke better than Pepsi. One thing they could do is serve Texas Toast instead of cornbread or HUSH PUPPIES!!! Otherwise, everything is good. In a cool old building in downtown Cottage Grove with local art inside for sale. Came here for dinner. My husband grew up in Missouri on KC style BBQ. Not quite as good as KC BBQ, but still great BBQ. I had the spicy chicken dinner with baked beans and coleslaw. The chicken had good heat to it. Both sides were great. My husband had the two meat plate with Mac and cheese and potato salad. The potato salad had olives in it (neither of us like olives) but had good flavor. The Mac and cheese was also good. Quick service. Large portions. We will be back! read more

Driving through Oregon and stumbled upon this place and what a GEM. Simon and Ira are 2 of the most nicest people I ever met and they definitely got an all around top notch BBQ establishment. We stopped at this unassuming establishment while getting gas during a recent Harley ride. I looked at the yelp reviews and for barbecue, this was the best suggestion. From the outside, except for the smoker in what looks like the parking lot next door, you would never know this was your typical joint. We almost missed it and rode right by it. When you walk in, the smell is amazing. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. I ordered the links sandwich with a side salad and beans. He ordered the special of the day, the sampler plate. It had two types of ribs and a link, and came with a side of coleslaw and beans. My sandwich was juicy and very tasty. He liked the ribs. Said they were juicy and falling off the bones. He also loved the coleslaw because it was more on the sweet than vinegar side. We washed it all down with the local brew pubs root beer. it was delicious! We will definitely return when in the area! read more

I have been coming to big stuff for years. By far the best bbq I have had. I moved out of town and nothing compares. Every time I am around I make it a point to stop by. I would always buy a pound of brisket or pulled pork and make my own sandwich at home. I do like a brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese right on top. Got to eat it with a fork!!! Yummm. I love, Love, LOve, LOVe, LOVE this place! I'm only in the area like every other months, but when I am, a trip to Big stuff is in order. Everything on the menu is fantastic. The chicken is fall off the bone tender. The ribs are little sticks of heavenly beefy goodness. The beef sandwich is up there as one of the best I've ever had. The potato salad is pretty good and the baked beans are sweet and tangy. Even the chili is delectable. Only tried a bite, but it was meaty and spicy and pretty darn fantastic. Oh, and the corn muffins! Let me tell you about the corn muffins! They are the best I've ever had. A little sweet with pieces of corn throughout. They remind me so much of the ones that I got at a now defunct restaurant named after a certain country music singer. Only softer and better. We always get a couple extra for the road. The people who work here have always been very friendly. And you really can't beat the price. Around $10 a person will feed you very nicely. So even though its a drive from Eugene (and even further from the Portland metro in which I reside), its worth the trip. I discovered Big Stuff on a whim, after cycling near Cottage Grove we headed into town for dinner. We planned on eating at a nearby establishment, but when I got out of the car I smelled delicious, smoky BBQ and followed my nose straight to Big Stuff. The pulled pork is amazing, sooo smoky (not in a fake liquid smoke kind of way, they smoke their meats overnight). They'll mix the sauce in for you, or you can add it yourself. The sides are good, I've tried the green salad (a nice healthy addition to a heavier meal), beans, and cornbread (of course). Staff is super friendly. Big Stuff is the best! read more

Being a skeptic at heart, I was suspicious of the reviews for Big Stuff. I mean, when four local reviewers all give a place five-star reviews, I have to wonder if the owner and three of his/her best friends wrote the reviews. I can't say that isn't the case here, but it doesn't matter. All of the reviewers were absolutely right--Big Stuff serves up some fantastic Q! Both my lunch partner and I ordered the pork dinner plate and the meat was tender, moist and very tasty. I happen to prefer my Q with some sauce (everything about BBQ is a matter of personal taste) and the staff was happy to meet my needs. The servings were hefty and the price was very reasonable. The sides were also tasty. My favorites quickly became the fries (extra crispy without the phony flavoring so many places deem necessary these days) and the coleslaw with a tangy/slightly sweet sauce unlike anything I've ever tasted. The beans were also top notch, with a subtle, smoky BBQ flavor that was just about perfection. The potato salad, however, seemed to be a little heavy on the dill flavor--again, a matter of taste. The staff, too, fit the descriptions provided by previous reviewers. They were helpful and welcoming, which brings me to one of the two reasons I didn't give Big Stuff a five-star rating. I felt the woman behind the cash register was a little too friendly. Her chit-chat with customers slowed the serving line down quite a bit . . . and I was hungry! The second reason I lowered my rating to four stars was the chunk of gristle I found in my pork. Neither of these negative points are a big deal, but they prove there's almost always room for improvement. If you're in the Cottage Grove area and you want to get your Q on, head for Big Stuff. Well, I made it back today when I was down in CG on business. I'm glad I tried it again. Maybe they did just have an off day the first time I went. The pork sandwich was *much* better today; juicy, smoky, and flavorful. Cooked just right - still just a tad of pink visible. The "spicy" BBQ sauce is a little tomato-centric and not particularly spicy. Fresh hot fries and salad (spring greens mix) still good. Actually, their fries are pretty freaking awesome now that I think about it. Saw them cutting up some chickens in the back room from Foster Farms - better quality ingredient than the average Sysco chopped chicken. Also, you might want to take a look over the counter at the meats before you order. They have them out under warming lamps so you can see exactly what you're getting. I looked too late but saw what looked like an excellent ham...next time. It's not superb BBQ (hence the 3-star rating) but after today I would say it's the best I've found in the area. The Eugene/Springfield options just flat out suck, like 1-star suck. I've heard some good things about Wagon Wheel out on 126, and want to give that a try too. I'll come back to Big Stuff if I'm around Cottage Grove at lunch/dinner time. $8 for a big platter with sides is a fair deal. read more
