Dependable good BBQ the drive thru makes them my go to place especially when it's really cold or really hot outside

Great place for some homemade BBQ. We ordered the combo plate with ribs and pulled pork with two sides (Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries). The meat was amazing! Ribs were so tender they were falling off the bone. Mac n' cheese was a little watery and didn't have a super cheesey flavor. BBQ sauce was super interesting! Had very strong tomato undertones. Overall solid place for some BBQ. Knocked a star off for the interior- it's pretty bare bones and dirty. Floors were sticky and bathrooms were a mess (no towels, broken door, etc).

I hate leaving a bad review, but I hafta be honest. The staff was rude, like literally every one of them - from the lady that took our order to the lady behind the counter that rudely asked "what are you waiting for" when I went back up and asked for a fork. The meat was tough and fatty. The only reason I give this place two stars is for the french fries and onion rings. We ended up throwing away most everything.

I have to start out by saying I have eaten here for years. Every single time I come their food their food has been outstanding. Must tries here are the burnt ends and fries, yes some of the burnt ends are a bit fatty, but not all, and the flavor is on point!

On a trip to KC for baseball and relaxation, I wanted to find a place that was reviewed well for barbecue and saw interesting reviews about Big T's. I was bringing my nephew and he was interested in checking out this authentic sounding location. When we located the restaurant, we were not sure if it was open, but went inside and checked it out. The service was a cafeteria arrangement, placing the order with a cashier and waiting for the food to be placed on the counter. We both ordered ribs (4 bones) and it was served with 2 side dishes. My nephew is not adventurous and ordered double sweet potato fries, but I got slaw and the sweet potato fries. The food was good. The slaw seemed like it was pre-made and packed into a Styrofoam bowl with a lid, but the food was good. The barbecue sauce is more tomato flavored than sweet but seasoned very well. I am unsure how the pandemic affected the business, but the interior of the restaurant is very run down and dark. There is a drive thru process and I recommend that if you want to enjoy the food.

I do believe they accepted debit cards but not credit cards. When I went it was a very strange transaction because I think they wouldn't accept cash either.

Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que -- The Rocket Pig Was Worth the Trip!…read more My oh my, Joe's lived up to the hype! This place was your typical BBQ stop, classic interior, simple and the smells whoa! After settling into our Airbnb, my wife and I needed dinner. We arrived around 8:15 PM and there were STILL 15-20 people ahead of us. At that hour, seeing a line told me we were probably in the right place. I planned to keep things simple: Just get a pulled pork sandwich. Then I saw the Rocket Pig. Pulled pork, BBQ glaze, bacon, pepper jack cheese, BBQ mayo and fried jalapeños. I at least showed some restraint and ordered the regular instead of the jumbo. Rocket Pig -- 10/10! This thing was outstanding. Smoky, cheesy, a little spicy, messy and loaded with flavor. My taste buds were tingling! While standing in line, we struck up a conversation with two guys from Chicago who told us people come to Joe's for the meat and the sides generally take a back seat. Since I'm definitely a "side guy," I had to find out for myself. The BBQ beans were a disappointment -- 4/10 for me. They simply didn't match the quality of everything else. My wife went with the regular pulled pork sandwich and, after getting a recommendation from one of the employees, ordered the cornbread. Winner! 10/10. Then came the banana pudding. We were told, "Don't pass on it." Melissa, who took our order, said there were only three left. DONE. Give us one! Banana pudding -- 10/10. It may honestly be some of the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. Creamy, rich and topped with crushed Heath Bar. I seriously considered getting back in line and buying the other two for later. In hindsight, I probably should have! We were also told that during the World Cup the line stretched outside and wrapped around the building, with people waiting more than two hours. After eating here, I understand why. Fortunately, our wait was only about 20 minutes, and it was absolutely worth it. Would I return? Without hesitation. But this is Kansas City, and there are still more BBQ joints I need to try! If you're visiting KC, Joe's belongs on your list. And if you like a loaded BBQ sandwich, GET THE ROCKET PIG! Food: Rocket Pig: 10/10 Cornbread: 10/10 Banana Pudding: 10/10 BBQ Beans: 4/10 Overall:

I have heard this place normally has a long line so try and go on off times. I ordered the Burnt End Dinner for $25.99 and it comes with two sides. I chose the baked beans and the street corn based on recommendation. The Burnt End Dinner isn't always available so if you see it order it. Trust me. This is my first time here and I was super excited. I read all the reviews and I knew exactly what I was going to order. When I got the burnt ends they looked heavenly. They were so incredibly tender yet still had texture. The fat had completely melted throughout the meat and kept everything moist. The seasoning was on point. Not too much but still added this great smoke and depth of flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. As for the baked beans, 100% recommend. They had chunks of meat in them and were both sweet and had a nice kick. So good. As for the street corn it was nice and salty, creamy, and sweet. The corn still had texture and was addictive. The whole meal came with three slices of bread and a couple of pickles to cleanse the palate. They also provided their hot barbecue sauce and their original. Both were amazing but the spicy is chef's kiss. So good!

The casual, counter-service setup has a true neighborhood BBQ joint feel, and it's easy to see why both locals and visitors recommend it. The restaurant is especially known for its ribs and burnt ends, and it's common for popular items to sell out later in the day, so arriving early is a smart idea. The barbecue was outstanding. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor, with the perfect balance of bark and juiciness. Every bite tasted like it had spent hours in the smoker, and the house barbecue sauce complemented the meat without masking its natural flavor. Portions were generous, making it an excellent value for the quality you receive. The sides were just as enjoyable and rounded out the meal nicely. Everything was served hot and fresh, and the fast-moving counter service kept the line moving efficiently even when the restaurant was busy. Overall, Slap's BBQ delivers exactly what people hope to find when they come to Kansas City for barbecue--authentic smoked meats, generous portions, and a laid-back atmosphere. Whether you're a local or visiting for the first time, this is a barbecue destination that's well worth experiencing.

Some background: I've been a few times now, but never under good circumstances. The first time I was at their food truck right when they opened and they were short on a few items. When I got home the sides weren't great, but I kind of chalked it up to them not being fully ready for me. The second time I went, in contrast I was probably their last diner in their newly opened space. I had a friend with me who had just come off the plane and needed a late dinner. The food was good, but again they were out of a bunch of things we wanted to try and I wasn't blown away. Now, my husband and I made the trip over to their location in Columbus Park about a month ago during regular dining hours and had an absolutely incredible bbq dinner from start to finish. The server was amazing, the food was insanely tender and delicious, and we left so so so full in the best way possible. This was what I had heard from others and what I was expecting and I was so happy to be able to report that they do live up to the hype, and if you catch them on an off day, give some grace and try again as this local spot is worth it. The interior is a step up from what you might expect from a barbecue joint -- polished, upscale, and genuinely relaxing. It doesn't feel like a typical smokehouse; it feels like a place you could bring a client or a date and not think twice about it. Food and service were outstanding, on par with other Jack Stack locations I've been to. Everything came out hot, well-portioned, and full of that signature KC smoke flavor. One hiccup: booking on OpenTable was oddly difficult -- the Plaza address wasn't coming up when I searched, which made reserving a table more of a chore than it should've been. Worth ironing out, since it's the kind of small friction that can turn people away before they even walk in. Still, once inside, the experience more than made up for it. Recommended.

Good BBQ, Great Service -- Just Didn't Wow Us…read more When you're in Kansas City, you have to eat BBQ! After an incredible meal at Joe's KC, we decided to give Jack Stack Barbecue a try. First impressions were excellent. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely has a more upscale atmosphere than your typical BBQ joint. I ordered the brisket and burnt ends with fries. Both meats were good -- tender, flavorful and well prepared -- but neither really left me wanting more. There was nothing wrong with them; they just didn't have that memorable factor I was hoping for from Kansas City BBQ. My wife ordered the loaded baked potato with burnt ends. Her opinion was similar: good, but probably not something she would order again. Our server, Adam, was excellent. He was friendly, attentive and offered several recommendations. He suggested the cheesy corn bake, which sounded fantastic. Unfortunately, that one missed the mark for us. It reminded me more of mac & cheese with corn mixed into it than the creamy corn casserole I had imagined. Overall, this was a good meal with excellent service in a beautiful restaurant. I can understand why Jack Stack has such a following, but for us it just didn't have that "I can't wait to come back" factor. I'm glad we tried it, but next time we're in Kansas City, I think we'll continue exploring some of the other BBQ legends. In hindsight...maybe we should've tried Gates! ‍

But they serve up some Joe's Kansas City BBQ, so you know they've got a reason to pull you in. Nothing says Kansas City quite like smoked meats & fabulous sauces, so get comfy & sample a Z-Man. There is plenty else on the menu, but if you're vegan or vegan-ish, then good luck or maybe have a cheat day. The BBQ is fantastic and Ice House has added their own bar & grille twists, so you have options beyond smoked meats. Seating is pretty good, and with both a wraparound bar and table service, there are plenty of options. As is the norm these days, there are screens in all directions, so you just don't miss a single moment of sportsball if that's your jam. P&L is a jammed up place when events are happening, so if you can find yourself a spot to sit and enjoy, then that's a win. County Road offers that and more, and it's only real knock is the service levels, which can be slow at busy times. But hey, if you have a seat and maybe a drink, then wait just a few extra minutes for servers to plow their way through the bar crowd. Definitely worth it for the BBQ alone.
