We've been to the Big View Diner before but normally later in the day. Have an early Dr. Appointment so we were out earlier than normal. We walked in a few minutes after 8am and they were already busy. Hostess immediately seated up and brought us menus and took our coffee orders. She was back in a couple minutes with two cups of outstanding fresh brewed coffee and asked if we has made up our minds on Breakfast. My wife order Crab Cake Benedict with a side of fruit. Been awhile since I have had Lox and Bagels so the fresh salmon bagel with cream cheese, tomato, onion, and capers sounded close enough While we waited we reviewed the room. Lots of glass and dark wood, very modern design. It's a good restaurant and has a great fresh bakery section. By this time our breakfast had arrived. Serving portions are large and probably explains why I need to loose about 10 extra pounds. My wife enjoyed her Crab Cake Benedict. Fruit was good and was a lot more than just cheap melon that some restaurants serve. The Benedict's were large and very flaky with a lot of crab and very little filler. They were very large and my wife ended up taking one home for later. The Salmon and Bagel was excellent. Salmon had a nice fresh taste. The tomatoes tasted like a tomato should and the capers were a nice contrast. In the end, a very enjoyable meal and we would come here more often except for the commute from Lake Norman is about 30 miles. We have been going to Big View since it opened. We live nearby and love the breakfast all day options. This is where I take the kids on "mental health days" when they shouldn't go to school. Came her for an early Saturday lunch after a pop warner football and I'm so glad we did. We've been here before for breakfast but have never tried lunch. I had the Thanksgiving Turkey plate and it did not disappoint. Yummy slices of sage seasoned turkey placed on top of creamy mashed potatoes, brioche herb stuffing and all of it smothered in a flavorful gravy. It was truly all the smells and taste of Thanksgiving which also included a side of chilled whole berry cranberry sauce. The kids enjoyed their all day breakfast menu along with large muds of hot chocolate. This updated review and rating hurts me to do... My Mom lives in the area and this is her breakfast of choice on Sunday mornings. She is a creature of habit, unfortunately. So, over the last few months although the food is good, I have seen a lack of flavor and presentation to our meals. And, more importantly, the service has taken a complete turn, for the worst. Sunday mornings are typically very crowded, but I find us sitting for long periods of time, waiting for the waitress to take our order, waiting for our food, and waiting for our check...Very disappointing. And, one side note for anyone that has enjoyed their Bloody Mary, they have changed the recipe. They previously used a pre-made mix, Zing Zang, but have decided to take the plunge and make their own. And, it was horrible!!! All you could taste was horshradish, I even sent my back and sent the second one back and finally just went with a mimosa. Unfortunately my Mom smelled like horshradish the entire day. Please go back to Zing Zang!! I know I will be back so I will keep you posted on any improvements, or not, that I see. read more

This was the first time I ate here. The ambiance is great. I decided to eat at the bar to avoid the 30 minute wait. Everyone was seating every other seat or so. I asked 2 gentlemen if if was too close to sit between them. One moved over a seat and other said it was okay. No seats were blocked off. I was there about 10:30 am this morning. I ordered a tequila sunrise and crab cake Benedict. When I received the plate I couldn't believe that someone actually would serve that asparagus. It was completely dried up. They did replace it. The home fries were potato mush. There was very little crab in the crab cake and I couldn't taste it. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The tequila sunrise was well made. Yes, this is a diner but more of a fine dining aura. As you walk in the door you are greeting by two hostess in the center. To the left is the bar area and to the right is the display area of all the cakes and deserts. It's like a bakery. We had a slice of the opera cake (definitely to be shared by two). As for dinner entrees, there was a good selection to choose from. We really lucked out this evening. Two delicious entrees. -Beef Stroganoff- the brisket blended with the dill and the creamy sauce they used made it so scrumptious. Just brings back memories of my travels to Eastern Europe. Like something rich and hearty when I was in Budapest and had authentic Hungarian Goulash. -Spinach pie- feta cheese drapped all over the spinach and to end the evening off with a gigantic slice of Opera Cake. This is tough. We don't live far from Big View and have seen it as a gem the past few years...The food still seems good, but the cakes have gone downhill, in our opinion. The cakes were our favorite - it's what first drew us there. We're ok that prices increased over COVID (it was the norm everywhere and we support our local service industry) - but the cake menu has changed recently and with it, the quality. The icing used to have more of a whipped consistency and was amazing, but now it's buttercream. The buttercream is actually pretty solid, but the cake is so very dry. That being said, we still LOVE those homefries and the service is almost always above par (especially Andrew!). I hope they revert back to their old cakes! read more

TERRIBLE!! This place is a disgrace to the name diner let alone restaurant. For starters, you can't call yourself a diner when your breakfast is inedible. The bacon was a floppy, undercooked mess. The pancakes, I don't even have enough negative words to describe them. Also lunch and dinner are disgusting. They served this chewy, overcooked, and cold disaster they call pasta. One other person I came with didn't get her fries at all while we were sitting there for an hour. Also, it took 20mins and reminding the server 2 times to get an apple juice. The water was disgusting, as if it came from a bathroom. The server almost never asked if we needed anything until we told him everything that was wrong with our meal. There is so much wrong with this place that instead of asking "What's wrong with this place?" the easier question is "What isn't wrong with this place?" I'm so happy that this place is like 5 minutes from my house because when I have random pregnancy cravings I know I can shut them up pretty quickly with a trip to Big View Diner lol. There's plenty of seating, and the menu is just as random and yummy as any diner menu from my old favorite haunts in New York. They're large and they are delicious New York style 95% of the time the food is delicious other times I have had cooked vegetables that were raw, coffee that was cold and a skirt steak that was tough. However the majority of the food is well portioned and attractive and served hot. The servers are generally friendly and attentive. Today we ordered a Greek salad , roasted turkey cobb salad a chicken gyro, lamb pita and New England clam chowder All entrees and salads were delicious. Maybe it's this cursed year, but I don't know, but the food I got from here tonight was awful. The "veal meatloaf" was terrible tasting, like mushroom from a can and meat from a cat food can. Green beans that tasted like water and air. Left off the whipped potatoes and got a side salad. Never got to try the salad because it was missing from the order. Got a side of soup, which happened to be "chicken noodle" left over spaghetti noodles in bland broth. And my partner got and omelet. Don't know how you can mess that up. But yeah won't be ordering that again. Maybe an off night? Our first time but what a terrible impression. Wanted to come back to try the amazing looking desserts. Although was a little disappointed that it wasn't hands on I still had an amazing time watching the head baker and learn from him things I've never known abt the baking world. Once it was over we were taken to a private room where they had a buffet spread for us. The food was so good and service was amazing. This restaurant is huge! I've always wanted to try this place because it's so noticeable from the road. We came here for brunch one day. Hostesses at the front were not the friendliest. I have a 4 letter last name that's pretty common. She asked me what my last name was and I told her. She asked me to spell it for her and I did. She asked me again to spell it for her and I did again. My husband walked up next to me and asked again what the last name was. My husband told her and spelled it out for her again. He then chuckled and told me he saw it spelled wrong. We got sat at a booth. Server came and got our drink order. One of my friends got a large orange juice. When the server came to the table, she had two glasses of orange juice. He asked her if the two glasses was one order of orange juice and she looked confused and said "no?". He told her he only wanted one glass of oj. She still looked confused and took it back. We all gave her our orders. I asked for a side of salsa and and asked me if I wanted turkey or regular. I looked at her confused? I told her I just wanted a side of salsa. She understood what I said and said ok. The food was good. Big portions. I did get the western omelette. This was our first time here in a couple of years, I was pleasantly surprised! Our server, Andrew C. was super friendly and attentive. Drink refills kept on coming, he was able to accommodate a somewhat strange request from my son (waffles with whipped cream and blueberries), and his positive review of the wings was right on! To that end, if you haven't tried the wings here, you absolutely must. Probably the best I've had in Charlotte. They taste great and the meat falls right off the bone. I was completely blown away. My son, a very picky eater, crushed the waffle, and my daughter pretty much finished her Challah French Toast. Everything looked and tasted fantastic. Can't wait to get more wings from here. I've been a long time customer. Went to the Big View a couple of Sundays ago. Evidently, they only had one waitress. Tables were open. We waited almost an hour and thirty minutes but never got a table. Had to walk out. Went back yesterday on a weekday. Very nice. Good service. Good food...eggs. Ordered sausage, got bacon. That's ok. I originally ordered Eggs Benedict like I always do. Was told no because they only serve it til 11 AM. It was 11:10. Ok. That's fine. But, the waitress stated they have never served Eggs Benedict past 11. I didn't argue as they have served Eggs Benedict at all hours of the day for years. I discovered The Big View has changed hands. Recently visited Big View Diner with my cousin in Charlotte for a late Lunch. Our server was Kat. This was my first restaurant visit since the the Pandemic started and it was a good experience. We sat on the open Patio and all servers wore masks. Kat, was very accommodating with explaining menu and telling what was good to try since it was my first visit. I ordered the Gluten Free Marsala Chicken with a Caesar salad as a side. The food was fresh and service was prompt. The Marsala wine sauce was on point as Kat described and I loved the fresh garlic spinach. My cousin ordered the Patty Melt and loved the taste of the caramelized onions. The portion size was large enough for me have takeout. I also ordered the Caramel Apple Pie Cheesecake not pictured, I took it to go and it was pretty good. I loved the cinnamon sugar taste in the whip cream on the top layer of the cheesecake. I will definitely Big View again in the near future the service and food quality was good. read more
