I would definitely recommend the tornado burger. It's so good you can't put it down once you start eating it. Quality ingredients and nice and fresh. They even have portland ketchup. This place is DELICIOUS! Their crab cakes are a definite must, my husband and I couldn't believe the quality and the taste. Even though they were short staffed, the service was great and fast. We came here early to try to get an outdoor table. Even though they had lots of outdoor tables, they weren't serving outside. Weather was perfect so they wasn't the reason. Their tables inside were well distanced, but all the windows were closed. Since two of us were unvaccinated, we asked for food to go. After waiting for 15 minutes for someone to take our order, we gave up went somewhere else--Riverside Fish and Chips, which turned out to be exclusively outside seating or takeaway, with delicious food in a gorgeous setting. I had the prime rib, I ordered it medium rare, It didn't come out medium rare partially burnt, very thinly sliced and extremely chewy. I believe they warmed it up by searing it in the pan. We gave it a 4 star as we thought that it was a bit high priced. That being said two of us had the French dip with clam chowder both were excellent. My boyfriend had the halibut fish sandwich and clam chowder with a piece of bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. The sandwich was great, the bread pudding was excellent! He's been a chef and said its the little things that go a long way for instance not bringing a plate with just a sandwich on it but decorating the plate with some garnish. People are visual eaters if it looks like a little extra effort went in the food usually it's a lot better. Needless to say the food was truly great and the customer service was exceptional. They happily substituted and made lettuce wrap tacos instead much to hubby's delight. Fries were beer-battered. I had a generous helping of crab but the cucumbers on the salad were meh. Cool decor and vibe with nice lighting and open room. No hard liquor but a wine list is available. The restaurant is located right on 101 with easy parking availability. On our last trip south from Portland, we decided to take the coastal route all the way home. So many cute little communities and too many funky places to eat along the way. I saw a review in a local magazine and thought we should try it for breakfast. I kept thinking how Guy Fieri would have a field day! Big Wave Café is literally right off Highway 101 and Laneda Avenue, you might miss it if you blink, but that would be your loss. Very cute and homey inside; lots of big tables for groups & families. Our waiter came immediately with coffee and menus - we must have had that weary travelers look. I ordered the Big Wave Favorite ($10): bacon, ham, hamburger patty or sausage patty, 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes and toast. I had the bacon because it was locally smoked and cured. Fantastic! The potatoes were perfect too, nice and crispy the way they should be. My husband had to have the Razor Clams and Eggs ($15): 2 lightly breaded razor clams and 2 eggs served with country potatoes and toast. He was in heaven. He even said the decaf coffee was better than average. It always so nice to find good food off the beaten path. We'll be back when we do the coastal drive home again. read more

You know how restaurants at a beach tourist destination tend to be. It's location, location, location. People are there in hoards. They need to eat. They'll stop in and support your restaurant even if the food is incredibly mediocre. Even if your restaurant wouldn't last a month in a town where survival depends on the quality of the food. Big Wave Cafe is such a place. Bland, gummy clam chowder. Uninspired salad. Dry Ruben. If you need to fuel your body it's better than nothing I guess. But if you have the time drive up to Astoria (a working port city, not a tourist town), where there are restaurants with really good food. read more

I came here for breakfast twice while on my Oregon coast road trip based on the reviews here and was not disappointed in the least. The food is excellent and flavorful, the prices are decent considering the size of the portions and the service is friendly. It can get very busy but if you come in around 9 or 10am for breakfast, there shouldn't be a problem and my breakfast was on my table within 15 minutes of ordering. The Breakfast Scramble and the French Toast with Ricotta Cheese-filling were amazing and very, very filling. I didn't need lunch after that. read more
