Went to this place about a week ago. It was a terrible experience from start to finish. Me, a buddy, and his mother-in-law went to get a bite to eat, and they both wanted to get a drink. We sat in the bar section, but away from the bar at a long table up against some windows. The barstools sucked and were very uncomfortable, they appeared to be old and outdated. We placed a pretty simple order: (2) burgers, a salad and a few sides. On top of that, I ordered and drank water, they each ordered alcohol. After waiting 45 minutes and still no food, I inquired on what was taking so long. Well, they couldn't find our ticket. You could tell they were scrambling and stressing about the order I'd placed 45 minutes earlier through the bartender. About 65 minutes later, our food FINALLY came out. The food was decent, but not worth the wait. On top of that, as a first responder in my work uniform (ID around my neck, badge on my belt next to my gun), I was told to leave the establishment by Mr. Hamburger (yes, that's what his ID stated his last name was). Confused as to why I was being asked to leave, there were also customers asking me, as a First Responder, clearly in a police uniform, why they were asking me to leave? I told them that because I had a gun on my hip, they told me I had to leave. As I left, I approached Mr. Hamburger and asked him if he kicks out all First Responders in uniform and he said no. I explained to him that I was in my work attire, on duty and wearing what I wear each day to work: Police ID, Badge, Gun. For whatever reason, he didn't like how I was dressed. I told him in my 13+ years of Law Enforcement, I've never been asked to leave a restaurant in Houston or anywhere else when on duty and in my work attire. He accused me of drinking alcohol (I was not/I did not). I don't recommend this place to anyone. On top of the bad experience with Mr. Hamburger, the food wasn't anything special. About the only thing good was the service from the (2) bartenders. They were pleasant, did a good job and I don't attribute the delay in food being their issue. I was there when they placed the order into the computer, so it was either a lost ticket in the back or a computer glitch, or Mr. Hamburger was hoping I'd leave before getting my food/hoping I was tired of the wait. It wasn't a super busy day. They had open tables, the couches were empty and after I approached the bar, a guy sitting at the bar leaned over and said, "you aren't the first one to complain about the long delay in getting your food, there have been others approach the bar and inquire about their food as well." Don't go here. Cross the street and go to SaltGrass or someone else. This experience was terrible, I will never go back. read more

After asking a server (not our server as the individual was nowhere to be found) to check on our food as we had been waiting for 1 HOUR, I then had to proceed to hunt down someone who could help us. Tables who had been sat 30+ mins after us had been served & were done. Our food was finally delivered 1 hr & 25 mins later. My nachos were cold & the others food was still somewhat warm. Don't however confuse that with being a hot fresh warm meal. Not a single manager bothered to come by to explain how this happened, but they had absolutely no problem coming to give me my $200 bill. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and finally had the opportunity to do so. We went early before the game and we're seated immediately. The service from our server was top notch, always checked in on us. Great atmosphere overall inside with plenty of TVs and Astros memorabilia. The food was amazing! I got the brisket tacos and the brisket was so tender and soft! The buffalo wings were perfectly crisp and the sauce was not overwhelmingly hot. It has the perfect amount of kick. I was having a mini staycation at the Marriott Marquis, to which Biggio's is attached, and so I made a stop here for a quick lunch. I came in through the Marquis' entrance and approached the hostess table. There was only one hostess on a Saturday afternoon and she was helping another group when we walked in. The way this restaubar is built, the hostess had to walk all the way down past the really long bar area to take the guests to one of the dining areas (there's also a dining area right by where the hostess table is) and then walked back to help us and then to walk through the bar area to take us to our table. All this walking back and forth made getting seated to be a little slow, but it didn't bother me too much because I kind of felt bad for the hostess. Moving on. The dining area where I was seated had bar-height tables (and maybe regular tables by the screen toward the back but I can't remember). The dining area by the hostess table had booth seating and couches (more like a lounge). I personally don't really like the bar-height table but oh well. Our waitress came and introduced herself not too long after we got seated. Throughout our dining experience, I found our waitress to be attentive and cognizant of our needs. No complaints for the service. For food, I decided to order the bacon cheddar burger. For $16, it's obviously on the high-end of pricing when it comes to burgers. I honestly didn't have a high expectation of the burger because I thought that it was just going to be another sports bar burger anyway. When the burger came out, first thing I notice was that my burger was overcooked. I asked for medium, but when I cut my burger in half, it was looking more medium well. I decided to eat it anyway and to my surprise, the burger was actually really good! And it was overcooked. Imagine how it would taste had it been cooked correctly!! I also have to do a special shout out to the fries that came with the burger because oh em gee, they were super crispy and super good. The fries were definitely done right and they totally almost stole the show from the burger. But we know that almost doesn't count. As for the ambiance, it's a high end sports bar. I wouldn't come here if I just wanted to watch sports. I'd come here if I actually wanted to meet and impress people because I can't see myself walking in this bar in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops like I would to a regular sports bar. They have a couple of big screen TVs in the dining area, but unless you're sitting at the bar, then you're forced to watch whatever's on the big screens. The prices on the menu will also tell you that this is a high-end sports bar. I definitely wouldn't mind coming in if I'm in the area and dressed for the part, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Normally I would just give this three stars for good but nothing outside the ordinary. However, that fourth star is earned for exceptional service. I don't recall the names of the guys behind the bar, but they never addressed me unless it was by my first name. My drink was never less than half full. As far as the food, I went with the dirty dog. Wow! This is not a hot dog as much as it was a hot log. That had to weigh a pound and a half to two pounds. Covered in bison chili and onion strings with a cheese sauce, this is a knife and fork meal. You would need to shower if you tried to pick this up and eat it. Prices are hotel prices for sure. This is THE place to go watch the Astros or other big games. The screens are ginormous and theres a lot of space for lots of groups to enjoy the elevated sports bar atmosphere. That said, it gets super packed, and consequently the service can be slow during busy times. They have good drink options. The only bar snack I tried were the chips and salsa, which wasn't very salty or seasoned adequately, but other folks around us had some delish-smelling foods served to them. A sports bar with a two giant screens, cold beer and food. Downtown Houston is a barren food wasteland of overpriced corporate hotel lobby restaurants or similarly overpriced, ungenerous and bland food trucks. I get it, they are servicing the business traveler on an expense account who doesn't give a damn for the price and just wants food and a few drinks before heading back to the room. Was here for an event at the convention center and so while I tried to get out of downtown to eat, there were multiple times we just had to succumb to what was available. We were quickly seated on both of our visits. The first visit, I opted for the Tex-Mex burger with guacamole, jalapeno, pepper jack, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion on a brioche bun. All three of our burgers came out of the kitchen medium well and crispy on the edges - just shy of burnt, but we figured they were one of those places that serves all the burgers "done" to avoid responsibility for under cooked meat. Needless to say the burger was dry, crumbly and overcooked. The guacamole stood out; however, I didn't taste the jalapeno or pepper-jack. This burger is in NO WAY spicy or hot. It had good flavor and was tasty, with the bacon fat adding to the guac an onion. I recommend this to you. A few days later, we are back (so you know it wasn't bad). The second time around, someone orders a burger and the server says, "how would you like that cooked?". Well, WTAF, we ate burnt burgers 'cause the last server either forgot, was too lazy or just DGAF about us. So, be warned here to say how you want your burger cooked. Anyway, I ordered the Dirty Dog. A chili dog with queso, onion strings and chives. So, the dog was over done (I think deep fried), the chili is good, but the queso was watery and lacked flavor. The very few onion strings were a good crunch addition and I got two large (4" to 6") pieces of chive which were inedible as served, so I removed them. I wouldn't get this again and I wouldn't recommend it to you. Overall, I would go here to have some beers or drinks. The service was sketchy at best and the food was just okay. read more

After spending a day at the NFL Experience we decided to return to our hotel and eat here. The place was really busy and originally told it was an hour wait. We were given a buzzer and sat in an area with chairs and couches. We sat there for 45 minutes until a server showed up if we wanted drinks and could also order food. This was not acceptable where a server should have came by minutes after we sat down. The server left but came back 10 minutes later and I was about to order something and then my buzzer went off. I went to the turn in the buzzer and told by the hostess to go upstairs. So I head up a huge staircase and when I got to the top no one was there to greet us. I was just standing around until I flagged a busboy and he was confused too and barely spoke English. I walked around for 10 minutes until finally a girl showed up to seat us. If could get any worse our food took forever and was bland. The whole staff was not prepared at all and hopefully will have their act together the next time we at stay at the Marriott Marquis this summer. read more

Located in the Marriott Marquis that is part of the downtown convention area at Discovery Green and George R. Brown is a sports bar named after and sponsored by the Astros hall of fame baseball player. Access is both from street-side or from inside the hotel. The place is quite spacious with super high ceilings and a long bar area where lounge seatings is by the reception area. This place is two levels where there are huuuuge t.v.'s located around the bar area and at the further end where there stadium seating layout and high-top tables, where there are two large screens that must be 20' ft high each. Personally I thought there would be more sports memorabilia, but there maybe more on the second floor The lunch menu currently is simple and not the full blown list. Apparently it'll be expanded starting w.o. Jan. 08, but what they do have are burgers, hot dogs, tacos, flatbreads, and other assortments of apps. On this occasion I went with the street tacos a la Burnt End Tacos which were basically brisket. With that you get three tacos with side of nacho chips and salsa verde for dipping. Not bad, but not great which to me was a basic 3 star dish. Side order of fries same thing, were just ok. Really, i guess I was expecting a bit more for having Craig Biggio's name attached to it, being located inside the Marriott and having to compete with a raft of new restaurants that will be soon opening. read more

Thats just what we do. But this was a 15% night at best. Barely greeted. Rudely delt with. The assumption we were trash because we look young (even though we are not) was irritating at best. This is is not the first time i have had a bad experience here or my bartender friends. But remember where you are and keep your expectations for food and hopes for a light hit on the wallet separate. The huge hot dog comes at prices you'd pay at neighboring Minute Maid Park during a game. The taste is better than at the ballpark without the annoying, cramped spaces of Minute Maid. But, I'm not sure the service is better. Servers consistently walked past without making eye contact with patrons. It's been a little while since I've been here. I'm from Cincy, I get to Houston a lot, just not downtown. Last time I don't remember this place standing out and tonight I know why. It's hard not to come here as a sports fan with the biggest tv's I've ever seen, but the attitude of the bartenders and the quality of food just makes this place a bummer. Here's the biggest thing - don't ever offer a bison burger and not train your cooks on how to cook it. Bison cooks at a higher faster temperature so when someone orders it medium, it doesn't mean you leave it on the grill the same length as a beef burger. Mine came out tough and well done. I ate half of it. I tried their bbq fries - not cooked crispy and the flavor was very artificial. I ate half of them. When the bartender asked if I was finished, I said I was. He didn't ask if everything was ok which was strange because as a dude that is 6'3 and 225lbs doesn't eat all of his food, one would normally think something was off. I would also say that it is a Monday night and they have UNC vs Miami basketball on one TV and NASCAR from yesterday on 2 tv's -I asked the bartender to change yesterdays race to todays game and he said he'd have to ask his manager. I came here with a friend on Saturday for lunch. When I sat down and review the menu I saw that everything was breaded. I can't do gluten so we left and went across the street to Grotto's. It would be great if they had a gluten-free menu offering gluten free hotdog buns and burger buns I don't think that would be too much of a pain for them to do. I will say what I do like about this place is how Airy and naturally lit it is. You're surrounded by glass walls with a great view of downtown plenty of big screens all around the place.
