Bike shop is a toss up on service and conduct. I was turned away from the shop today for a simple part request on my bike because they were "too busy" with only one other customer in the shop. Yet they were staffed with 3 people total. The clerk gave the excuse that the part would take too much time to find. How long does it take to find a locking nut for a bike wheel at a bike shop? Apparently forever! The clerk never made an effort to look for the part or ask for help in looking, all while sitting comfortably behind the cash register in an air conditioned shop. How very weird for a local, bike shop... Addendum: Bike shop is too "high end" to deal with "inexpensive bikes" ( how do they know how much my bike cost anyways ? It could have been made of einsteinium for all they know ). So seems like the bar for service is set at $10k / bike... Lastly, they never ATTEMPTED to look for the part, only saying it would take too long to look for it, which is very different from looking for a part, not finding it and THEN saying, "Sorry, we don't have that part." I dropped in and since I just needed to replace the inner tube, they prioritized my service so I can get in and out in less than 10 min. Cost is about average for the area - $18 for parts and labor. They also sell a bunch of equipment and bikes here. Bikes range from a few hundred to thousands. They heavily feature Scott and Bianchi. Solid spot. read more

Sure, you may have to wait for a bit. Cool your jets. They'll get to you in a moment. I brought in a vintage Nishiki road bike with rotten tires early last summer, that Helen's in Westwood (now closed) had screwed up so royally a few years back, I couldn't ride it. The Bike Improve guys put on Continental Ultra Sport tires, slightly wider than the originals. Really gives a great ride. The bike was in good shape (it was in storage for years), but the spokes were rusted. Nir told me to use steel wool and WD-40, because any new wheels he could order wouldn't be as good as the original ones on the bike. I went home, gently sanded the spokes, and my bike rides like a dream. I was able to use it all through the lockdown in LA. It saved my sanity, and Nir saved me a lot of money. I had read the description on their website and it sounded like an experienced, knowledgeable place to get my vintage Klein MTB bottom bracket re-installed. So I called in to schedule a time; to my amazement, the gentleman on the phone insisted that Klein bicycles only used threaded bottom brackets and never used press-fit bottom brackets (sorry, semi-bike nerd here). Anyone who knows bicycles and Klein bicycles knows that they were one of the first to use pressed-in bottom brackets. I got an argument from the guy on the phone who insisted I didn't know what I had, or I had some weird setup. Supposedly, they are a top notch shop. They should know this stuff!!!! I gave 2 stars because I don't know about the rest of the staff. I only interacted with the one gentleman who didn't know his $*#t and felt like he was gonna teach me a lesson. read more

With so many good shops in the area that have a pleasant demeanor and a customer friendly experience why would I give this business any of my money. O The two people working there seemed like they were they were being inconvenienced by us popping up in their shop. We showed up at fourP.m. and the guy claimed he's closing down and couldn't help us... mind you they close at five. They Are not interested in getting any kind of business whatsoever with their subpar customer service. I will not be returning. There are so many better places that understand customer service. Nir is the man - they've worked on all of my bikes, always deliver within the promised time frame & always keep me in the loop of what's going on. Very knowledgeable with all brands and setups.. I had a Specialized "authorized dealer" build my S-Works Venge, and after a couple weeks of terrible shifting, falling brake pads, rattling noises & basically carelessness for my safety, I took it to Bike Improve & right away Nir could tell everything wrong with it (a lot of very small detailed things that add up). From basic jobs to pro setup to warranty work, highly recommend them for anything. No BS, clear and HONEST, they'll tell you what you need and how it needs to be done to get u rolling safely. Not to mention the Nir Wheels: built in house by the man himself, great value and rides equal or better than many of the overpriced mainstream stuff. This is the first time the phrase "bike snob" comes to mind. Lazy and doesn't know how to count money (first thing he does is to allege that the client gave the wrong amount). Two stars for manager and other workman behind the counter. They charge $75/hr for walk-in labor. Would love to visit again since it's nearby, but never again. I've had my bikes maintained by Nir for a few years. He helped me get accessories for my ebike today and he did a tune-up. I suspect he's pricier than his competitors, and he skews toward the high-end stuff (I'm more of an "entry-level" cyclist). But I think (in this case) you get what you pay for. He's very patient with me and all of his recommendations have been rock-solid. He takes his craft very seriously. He doesn't upsell you, but he does warn you about the price you'll pay when you penny-pinch in the wrong places. Bottom line: 1. He's an expert. 2. You can trust him. 3. AVOID THIS SHOP! I am extremely disappointed in the way this bike shop conducts business. I work within the bike industry and have never experienced a lack of professionalism or disregard for customer service like I did in this store. The owner was rude and I was overcharged for a pair of Shimano cleats for my road shoes ($50). I went into the shop to purchase new cleats for my road shoes en route to meeting up with a group for a ride. They had a very limited selection and due to the urgency, I opted for a different cleat than the model I typically use. The young mechanic ask me to remove my shoes, and when he saw the wear on my old cleat he offered to screw in the fresh pair. After less than 5 minutes, the mechanic asked me for my card (without first telling me the $total), swiped it, and when I signed the receipt I was shocked at the total of $50. When I asked why the price was so steep, the mechanic told me the labor (about 3 minutes of screwing) was an extra charge, and told me I would need to speak to the owner, whom was on a phone call behind his desk. I waited for the owner to wrap up his call, then questioned why I was being charged extra, when I was never told there would be an additional fee AND have never been charged extra in any other store. The owner responded in an extremely combative manner suggesting that I was cheap and didn't want to pay the mechanic, when in reality I was being grossly overcharged for a product that I've never paid more than $30 for in the past. I will never be returning to this store and urge others to avoid. read more

I wish I could write something more positive but I've had three unpleasant experiences. Most recently, I brought in my bike with a tire that wouldn't hold air. I agreed to replace not just the tube but also the tire, and I also decided to have him replace both tires since the bike is old and had not been used in a long time. He told me I would need to wait there while he did it because his shop is very small (true) and he has no place to store bikes (turns out false). Seemed reasonable, though the style (as in my previous experiences with him) wasn't very pleasant, so I waited, paid, thanked him--he never thanked me--loaded the bike in my car and went home. Exactly a week later I took the bike out for the first time and discovered that, of all things, the rear tire wouldn't hold air! I brought the bike back in and again he told me I had to stay. I couldn't but told him I'd be back in 45 minutes. When I returned, the bike was done, and, lo and behold, it was safely locked up to the bike rack just outside the entrance to his shop. So why did he tell me I had to stay? I asked what had caused the tire to fail, and he said that maybe the tube had gotten pinched between tire and frame, and anyhow, he wasn't going to charge me. I laughed, "Charge me? Well, of course not. You replaced the tire a week ago and this is the first time I've used the bike." To which he said, "I don't think it's your fault, so I'm not going to charge you." He must have said that three times. His point seemed to be that I owed him thanks for not charging me, which is more than a little backward. Instead, how about "Gee, I'm sorry for your extra trouble in having to bring the bike back in. Glad to have had the chance to make it right." After all, it was my afternoon plans that got totally screwed up. I like to support small local businesses, and I live right nearby, but there's been something irritating in every interaction here. I'm not going back. read more

It's true that they have great top-end equipment, but if you bring in anything for repair that doesn't fit in their price range, they spend a lot of time trying to convince you to dump your bike to buy one of theirs and/or outright refuse to service it. They're also not very nice to you if the equipment you bring in isn't in their price range. I guess it makes sense, since they are next to a Porsche dealership. Great place if you are hobbyist with $1500+ equipment; don't bother going if you are a regular person with a regular bike. read more

DISCLAIMER- I have to say I left this place crying out of frustration, so I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to give more than 2 stars for any business that does that to you. That being said, Bike Improve is the worst. The owner is so rude and condescending and uses intimidation on customers (if you need an example, just read any of his yelp responses to negative reviews). But my main issue with the shop is that they charged me double the quote price without me authorizing it - which I didn't even know was legal (that was sarcastic, its not legal) and he also called me a liar when I confronted him about the price. I called other shops and they agreed that this place was a rip-off. Its probably ok to come here if you're looking for high end bikes and parts but I'd rather go out of my way to any other shop for repairs. read more

I first came to this shop to get fitted for my bike after a friend referred me here. I was having some knee pain that was really affecting my training. The staff was able to point out many issues with my positioning on the bike, and paitently explained what was wrong in a very honest and direct fashion. After making some adjustments and changing a few components, it was like riding a whole new bike. My bike was improved! My knees no longer bother me and I am able to ride faster, and longer without any pain. Like a human being after a visit to the doctor, a bikey should always feel better after a visit to the bike shop. Haven't found that to be true on my visits to Bike Improve. Have been a Helen's customer for years but Bike Improve is right down the street, so thought I would give them a try when I had a flat on a Sunday (they open too late during the week to fix a pre-work flat). Definitely got a sneer when they saw my Trek. The salesperson said that even with a new inner tube, my tire was so worn that it would explode within an hour of being filled. Decided to take my chances and what do you know, no explosion. Went back months later with another flat. More attitude. Again was told that my tire was a hazard. At that point was willing to replace it and will give Bike Improv kudos for letting me decide what I wanted to spend on a new tire. Was then told that the poor condition of my brakes rendered my bike a safety hazard and that I should have that fixed immediately. Again, no thanks. They also said that I needed a tune-up. Not sure why I would give my tune-up business to them. Now here is where I get really annoyed. I got the flat fixed and rode off. When I get this service done at Helen's they always apply some lube to the chain and give my bike a little cleaning and love. And bikey appreciates it. Bike Improv definitely didn't do that. If anything, they cleaned off a bunch of lube and made the chain so dry that it isn't working like it used to and now skips. I know my chain is old, but a visit to a bike shop shouldn't make it feel older. Will I visit Bike Improve again? Maybe, but only when I have a Sunday flat tire emergency. Will I take my bike there for a tune-up? Heck no. Helen's will continue to get that business. And my bike parts business. And my business when I buy another bike. read more

Nir is great. I've been here a few times. The most recent, because I got a flat on my mt. bike (and I don't carry a spare--STUPID) a mile away from his store. It was like an oasis. Otherwise, I would've called AAA or a taxi. Instead I walked impatiently to his store, where he not only replaced the tube, but gave me a little tutorial on changing it so I can try it myself next time (assuming I start carrying a spare). I also stopped here on my research tour. I test rode a Scott, which ultimately wasn't the right bike for me. Due to the size of the shop, it's not the ideal place for bicycle purchases, but he has a good selection of pedals, pumps, tires, saddles, and some clothing. Do come here for repairs though! My only complaint was the slow process of entering my personal information into his computer system. Seemed unnecessary considering I was just paying a few bucks for a tube replacement...and I was in a rush to finally get home! read more

Nir is amazing. Came in yesterday to get a set of tubeless tires. I foolishly tried to set them up myself, but then realized I didnt have the right tape or an air compressor or anything that would add enough pressure to the tire to get the bead to set. I brought it back into to Nir and he stayed after hours to set up the tires for me, and taught me how it works along the way. read more

They have great prices not only on bikes, but service as well. They're not happy until you're happy. I just bought a bike from a department store. I needed some accessories and tips on riding etc. I fully realize that I did not purchase an expensive bike like ones sold there. That was not my intention with this bike I got to cruise around town. However, I thought I would be treated with the same respect as any other customer. Sadly, I was not. I was talked down to, demeaned for having a "crappy" bike and really made to feel like I didn't belong there. Perhaps I didn't, but it's ok, because I will never go back. I hurt my ankle and have been afraid to ride thinking I wouldn't be able to unclip, cuz I can barely undo with good ankles. Went to Bike Improve to get cages and the fellow, while never making me feel bad, said cages, in his opinion were more dangerous than proper clips. He put the cages on my bike, all the while talking his concern for my safety. After he finished I asked him he knew of a better clip to use. Yes, and he would put them on my bike to try. Off came the cages on came the clips. He was right, the new clips were soooo much better and easier to use! This was on a busy Sunday morning and certainly not a big sale for them. I was so impressed he was more concerned about my safety and riding enjoyment than shuffling me out the door. I never felt hurried or and had his complete attention. I was in awe of their knowledge, kindness and overall care that they provided to us both. I ended up getting a sweet Scott entry level bike for a steal of a deal.
