I'm reviewing only based on the Roast Beef sandwiches. That's all I get here. Perfectly rare, sliced to order, hot roast beef. High volume place so it's always cooked fresh. Roast beef in this style is somewhat of a regional specialty on the north shore and this is the best Roast beef sandwich there is. I prefer it to the other "world famous" roast beef establishment in North Beverly because it's more consistently cooked and slightly more substantial. People whining on here about prices/service/atmosphere are babies. Yes it's a little run down, no the employees don't bend over backwards to wait on you hand and foot and aren't overly annoyingly friendly. It's a roast beef shop, the only thing that matters to me is high quality beef, served in a reasonably timely manner, for a fair price. That's what I get every time and what keeps me coming back regularly. If you don't like this place, you don't care about roast beef. read more

The Roast Beef is excellent! Even though the portions are small compared to what most Roast Beef restaurants offer, especially for such a high price. But, they do offer a much higher quality Beef. I do have one complaint though: I used to stop here almost every night on my way home from work. While I still enjoy the Roast Beef, the Chicken Filets used to be my favorite. Then, a few weeks ago they switched to new, smaller ones that have a slight sweet taste to them. As a result, I went from 4-5 visits a week to just one. Last night, I asked the guy at the drive through if they had switched back yet, and he said yes! I was so pleased to hear that! So, tonight I stopped to order a small Chicken Filets. I was so disappointed when I got home to find they were still the gross new ones! YUCK! read more

Great roast beef. Love the fact they are open late. Eat in or take out. Everything on the menu is good.

Not bad. Rolls on the large beef are too starchy and take away from the flavor of the beef (which has been very skimpy as of late!). I usually eat it open face because the roll is so overwhelming (cpmpared to other local beef places). Broccoli bites are good as are there overpriced chicken fingers. Can't go wrong with a vanilla shake. Convenient and good hours of operation for late night craviings. read more

B&B at one time was the best place to get a Roast Beef on the north shore but the quality has steadily declined while the prices have gone up. at this point Bill & Bobs is surviving on it's once good reputation and that it is open until 2am which isn't always 2am depending on how busy they are. read more

I had a junior beef b\c I'm watching my weight and the lady behind the counter assumed I wanted the "sauce" - when I asked about it she looked at me like I was crazy: "Everyone loves the sauce".......and so, when in Rome. I don't get the hype with Bill & Bob's. They have probably the worst roast beef around. The rolls are the cheap onion rolls and the roast beef itself is always overcooked. Any fried side orders are always greasy and served in wax paper which doesn't help absorb the extra grease. At this specific location, they have a large, usually empty, parking lot that overlooks the ocean. Well I was going here routinely on my lunch breaks, even when I wasn't ordering their food and I noticed after a few weeks the staff put up really obnoxious, homemade signs that said "Parking lot is for Bill & Bob's customers ONLY". One of the signs was right next to where I'd park. Now, the lot is always empty and there are plenty of spots. I used to get lunch there once a week or so anyway and isn't it good to have some cars in the lot, especially for a place that does most of it's business from the drive thru, to show that the place has a pulse? Furthermore, it's just boredom materialized as territorial poster board. Annoying. Compounded with the fact that they noticed me in their lot and noticed that I do in fact eat there frequently but still decided the signs were a good idea? Not so much. The food; I could take it or leave it. I left it since King's and Nick's are just down the road in either direction, have way better roast beef and don't hate people taking up 1 out of 50 spots in their lot. read more

I'll begin by saying that I had my first roast beef sandwich at Bill & Bob's near the bridge in Salem. It was when I was in my mid teens and I'm over sixty. My memory recalls a doughnut shop at the sight as a child. I've got some miles on me. I believe many people, myself included, would have given this store five stars over the years. It was once the most popular roast beef stand in a 7-8 mile area. What hasn't changed is the size of the parking lot. At one time you would have difficulty finding a parking space. Why isn't it that popular by today's standards? I believe it has to do with the portions. The restaurant signs on all of the "....Famous Roast Beef" stands always showed artwork displaying a roast beef sandwich with the beef stacked high and overlapping the outside of the bun. The artwork often matched what you bought inside the stores. Then came the dreaded meat scale. Someone surmised that they could get an extra sandwich or two out of each roast by weighing the beef for each sandwich. Now you generally see the preparer measure for each sandwich as if he's the counterperson at the deli counter of your local supermarket. It used to be at Bill & Bob's (as well as most of the copycat stands) that some preparers stacked "it" higher than others based on a "lack of attention" or perhaps whether you made "a good impression". Say, I'm all for stores making a profit and inconsistent portions would be a problem but the reality is that as beef prices have risen and additional profits were coveted portions took "the hit". Consistently small portions "is" a problem. Getting back to Bill & Bob's, I find that you never get beef stacked and overlapping the sides of the roll. Try this experiment with Bill & Bob's fare. Buy the sandwiches of your choosing (I'm talking roast beef) and take them home. Before passing them out to the family member who ordered each, try to guess which sandwich is which. Can't do it without removing the wrapper? That's today's sandwich. I swear that in the past, the condiment/ roast beef choice was oozing out the sides of the sandwich and was apparent without even opening the wrapper. "I swear to god!!" Today, at all of the roast beef "places" you most likely have to unwrap the wrapping. At Bill & Bob's you have to take it one step further, you have to peal back the top half of the bun to get a good look at the contents to determine if this is the one "with mayo" In reading the other reviews, they speak glowingly of the late closing time and "hitting" this stand at the end of a long night at the local "library". Say, you may not want to set up a situation here where the local constabulary is on site late nights checking "library" cards. Keep it up? Having said that, one plus at Bill & Bob's is convenience. It is rare to find a drive-thru at these establishments and this one has one. It has plenty of parking and since the new connector road came into being, pulling in and out of the parking lot is a snap. Service is face paced (augmented by some of the fare going in and out of the microwave). I guess what I'm saying is "the old gray mare, she ain't what she used to be", then again, I do like to go on about myself. read more

Not impressed with the increase in pricing since the portions aren't any larger. However, their sandwiches and pizza and spinach rolls are hot and fresh and worth the visit. Service has always been on the slow side. read more

It was 11:50 the morning. No reason the food shouldn't be fresh. I got a burger so stale it was like shoe leather, it was called the Texas cheeseburger but was just meat on a bun, no lettuce, no tomato, nothing. And the french fries were burned. 9 bucks. read more

We went through the drive in at Bill and Bob's yesterday. It has been about a year since we have been to this location. We wanted a good cheap dinner on the go. Service was fast and the order was correct. But when they said that will be $24.01 I took a double take! We ordered 2 big beef with sauce and cheese $10.50 not a bad price at all and they were good ! One ordered of waffle fries . They gave us cheese with them. The cheap nacho cheese you get it the movie theater. $4.85. It was a big bag of fries . But the bag was so greasy that it left a stain on my jeans. You need to double bag theses fries. The entire bag was grease by the time we got home. The last part of our order was broccoli bites. My husbands favorite thing! $5.99and there was 6 in the box! That's $1.00 a bite. Come on that is one hell of a mark up! If we go back we will only be getting roast beef. All the extras are way over priced! read more

The employees here can be a little rude but what kind of captains of industry do you think your going to be dealing with that work at low paying job like this. I've eating the burgers here a few times and for fast food their good. Their roast beef sandwiches and fries are OK. They must be more of a drive thru business because I've never seen a lot people eat inside. read more

Called in my order so it would be ready when I got there. It wasn't. When I gave my name, the worker seemed like he didn't even know why I was there. I finally got my order (in a very grease stained bag) and left. We drove to the park, about a mile away, and opened the food. The order was all wrong. They got the size of the sandwiches correct but that was about it. I really didn't even want to eat the sandwich. In addition, the fries and the chicken fingers were cold. How they got it so wrong I will never know. read more

I will never go there again, decore says early 80's and smells like it. We stoped for a burger BIG MISTAKE. The meat was grey and the size of a silver dollar. the bun while toasted was huge! the toppings on it were not what we ordered. the best part of the meal was the small soda with it.
