Colin seems like a nice enough guy. But he is selling cars the way Tony is telling him to sell cars. And Tony is a shark. He is a closer.

On March 11, 2025 I had a 9:30am appointment with someone named Jason per an email sent by Ryan Baker. I arrived early since I worked a midnight shift the prior night and came straight from work. A guy named Colin Lewin unlocked the doors at 9:00am. He said Jason wasn't there that day and he could help me. I was interested in a 2024 Corvette (vin 1G1YB2D44R5130488) that was advertised at a $9,425.00 discount. It was also advertised as having potential further discounts for a Costco membership and a Camaro loyalty discount for qualified buyers. Colin informed me that I did not qualify for the $3,000 Costco discount because my membership was the Gold Club membership and not the Executive membership. I told him I bought a 2 door CTS-V several years prior and asked if that would qualify me to the Camaro Loyalty discount. He said that unfortunately anyone wanting that discount had to have the specific vehicle currently registered in their name. I also told Colin I worked for a GM supplier and had a discount for that as well. Colin completely ignored the GM Supplier discount even though I had my work ID and was able to provide remittance advice statements for recent pay periods. I asked to see the deal sheet and I declined the offer for a test drive so he would know I was a serious potential customer and not just somebody looking to joyride a car. During the conversation Colin must've sensed that I was slipping off the hook so he brought over the finance guy named Tony. Any time a salesman brings in another salesman is a red flag. You get two salesman ganging up on you and you cannot tie a particular lie to a specific individual and they have deniablity that any lie was ever told. Tony produced a vague and incomplete deal sheet that included a $3,989.00 upcharge for a paint and upholstery protection package, a list price that was $3,500 higher than what was advertised, and the deal sheet did not included the total price for the vehicle. It also included an estimated monthly payment based on how much I was willing to put down. So Tony had all the information available for full disclosure- principal, rate, and time. But he chose not to disclose it. Omission and deceit are key components of his sales strategy. So now Tony is pressing me to see how much he can get out of me for a down payment that day. Tony is a smart guy. He isn't just the finance guy. He is the closer. He does this every day and he's a skillful negotiator who can steer the conversation into a verbal commitment with even the worst of deals. He isn't your friend. He isn't looking out for your best interests. He is a shark and there is blood in the water. People like Tony are best avoided in any situation; especially when buying a car. At the time GM was offering financing at 6.39% for buyers who qualified on this particular vehicle. There are other vehicles that offer better financing but not this one. Nobody buys a Corvette because it makes financial sense. I knew I qualified. My credit score and payment history are flawless. I don't get turned down by potential creditors. I turn them down. My credit is bulletproof like gold plated titanium. Tony informed me that I was approved "within a few tenths of 6.39%." Which is odd because I never allowed him to run my credit and he didn't run it. So he must've used his powers of clairvoyance to get me approved. Needless to say, I did not buy that car. I told them I was going to go check on another car and I'd almost certainly be back the next day or that week to sign the dotted line on the horrible deal they offered me. I knew I was never coming back but what is one more lie right? But Tony and Colin sold a car that day. It just wasn't their car. I went about 20 minutes down the road and spoke to another salesperson at another dealership. I bought a 2024 Corvette 2LT with the z51 performance package. It is virtually identical to the Corvette at Bill Kay except it is black exterior and black interior. The guys down the road at Webb Chevrolet were a pleasure to deal with and did not waste my time. They were upfront and fully transparent at all stages of the deal. Their advertisements were sincere and truthful and not the bait and switch garbage you will find at Bill Kay. I encourage anyone who is serious about buying a car to avoid Bill Kay like the bubonic plague.

We explained exactly what we wanted and needed. Although they did not have the vehicle in stock, the sales team assured us they could locate a comparable vehicle from another dealership. We agreed on pricing, and while we were initially prepared to leave and continue shopping elsewhere, we were repeatedly encouraged to stay because they were confident they could secure the vehicle for us. Because we urgently needed a vehicle by the next day, May 5, we relied on their assurances. We agreed not to pursue other dealerships and placed a $500 deposit to move forward with the purchase. The following day, around 4:00 PM, our salesperson sent a text message stating there was a "logistics delay" and that the vehicle would be available the next day. The explanation seemed unusual, so I contacted the dealership directly. That's when I was informed that they actually did not have a vehicle available for us at all and there was nothing they could do. Needless to say, I was extremely upset. The issue wasn't just that the vehicle fell through--it was the way the situation was handled. We were given assurances that caused us to stop shopping elsewhere, only to be informed at the last minute that no vehicle was available. Better communication and transparency could have prevented a great deal of stress and inconvenience. As a parent, I was suddenly left scrambling without reliable transportation and worried about how I would get my children to school the next day. The dealership left us completely stranded. Fortunately, we immediately went to Riverfront GMC, where we found an even better version of the same make and model for over $1,000 less than the price we had agreed to at Bill KGMC. Based on this experience, I will not return to Bill Kay GMC and cannot recommend them to others. The lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through demonstrated a serious lack of integrity. Buyers should proceed with caution and make sure they have firm confirmation before relying on any promises made. I will also add, in November of 2025 we purchased form Bill Kay Nissan in DG and they were amazing! We already know we will go back there when we need our next car.

I took my 2024 CX-30 with less than 25k miles to Napleton in Countryside due to a service engine light. They told me I had water in the gas and needed $2200 new injectors. I called BS. They had no evidence other than a WATER bottle filled with gas they shook in front of me to their claim of 'bad gas'. So, I took it over to Castle Mazda at Downer's Grove and told Michael the story. He asked about codes and I gave him what I had. He asked why they cleared codes at the last place without making repairs, which I could not answer. So - he took it in for few days to run some checks - nothing came up. No charge, thanks for coming in - let us know if it comes on again. A few weeks later the light came on again and we took it back to Michael and team at Castle. He gave us a loaner vehicle and took the car in to test. For a few days they could not find the exact issue but they kept diagnosing, keeping us updated. Then, they discovered a pinhole leak in the intake manifold. They replaced the manifold and voila - car is running perfect again. All covered under warranty as I'd expect. These folks know how to do analytical troubleshooting and they run a straight-up shop. I met a salesman by the name of John Pauly, and also the General Sales Manager Mike Nemeth. After negotiations (including running a Car History Report, and included running my credit), we come to an agreement that the car would be repaired (bumper and dent in door), and that if the service department didn't come back with any other issues, that the car would be sold to me for $14,400 plus fees, and that they would give me a trade in for my vehicle of $3,250 (I have the original paperwork given to me by Mike Nemeth showing the selling price and trade in price for my car. It also lists the date of this report and the sales person's name). I then took the car for a drive, and when John and I both heard some grinding noises coming from the front end of the car, both sides. I told him to have the car checked out by his service department, and to let me know what was wrong with the car. As he and Mike had agreed to, that provided they fix what was wrong with the car, I would still purchase it for the same agreed amount. On Friday, 6/12/26, John called me at around 10am, and said that they were about to give the car to the service department, and wanted to know if I was serious about the terms that we had discussed. I said yes, provided that the car checked out with service department with no other issues, and that they fix the car as we had discussed. Later in the day, John texted me back stating that the car didn't pass service inspection., and that they were going to wholesale the car to an auction. About an hour after John had texted me, I texted him back, and asked what exactly they had found wrong with the car. He texted back stating that they didn't tell him what was wrong, but that it was not worth keeping it due to too much being wrong with it. This in itself is hard to believe that the sales person does not know what is wrong with a car that he was supposed to sell. So I had my doubts that he was telling me the truth. On Tuesday, 6/16/26, still in the need of a car, and also wanting to see if the car was actually off of the lot, I took a drive back down to Castle Hyundai. Sitting at the front right side of the lot, with the front bumper crack having been fixed, but still not properly connected to the headlight and ¼ panel, and still having the same large dent in the right passenger door, was the car that allegedly was to be wholesaled at an auction. (see attached pictures). On Friday, 6/19/26, I called the dealership and spoke with a sales person by the name of Andy, and asked about the car. He said the exact car that I was referring to and that it was for sale. I told him that I had stopped by earlier in the week and saw that it had a dent in the car door. I asked him if there was anything else wrong with the car, and he said "No." Later this same afternoon, I went back to check the text messages from John Pauly, and he had erased the texts that he had sent to me stating that they were going to wholesale the car and send it to auction, as well as the one where he said that he was not told by the service department what was wrong with the car. I have proof that 6 texts were sent to and from John Pauly on Saturday, 6/12/26, from my cellular phone account. Currently only 2 texts are showing in our conversation, in my Messages App, from this date, and those 2 texts are only ones that I sent to John. None of John's replies are listed anymore. Apparently, he decided to delete them in order to cover his tracks and hide what he told me. And the car sales people wonder why used car sales people get such a bad rap. The disappointing thing is that John didn't do a thing when we met in person without his boss, Mike, the General Sales Manager, knowing about it. So it only makes sense that John was getting direction from Mike as to what to do. So apparently the lies and deception not only are at ground level, but also at upper management. Most people might simply let this go, but I feel that other people should be aware of the character of this business. Apparently, they will do and say anything to make a dollar ... including not honoring their word and verbal agreement. On 6/24/26, I sent an email to their corporate office to their district manager (initials AD). As of today's date (6/30/26), no response has been received. The silence speaks volumes.

About a year and a half ago I had bought an older Tesla model S with a small battery pack and not licensed for Supercharging or anything else. I didn't do enough research and didn't realize how bad Tesla service was! I loved the car but wanted more features and Supercharging and Tesla wanted to screw me to get it licensed. I've been watching the ads for a replacement for it and Star Motor had a similar model S that was a year newer, had a bigger battery pack, leather interior, and most importantly Supercharging. And not just Supercharging, lifetime free unlimited Supercharging! This was the car I wish I bought the first time! It is also licensed for several other premium features. In the year and a half I've owned a Tesla I've learned a lot about them so this time I knew what to look for and check. They also gave me a very reasonable trade-in for my bare-bones older S too which reduced the cost about 35%! Most of the low-cost ads I've seen take $4K off the list price assuming you'll get the Federal tax credit, but I don't qualify for it. I was very happy to be told that their listed price was the price and it wouldn't be $4K higher for me! They transfered the car to my Tesla account before I bought it to confirm that the free Supercharging was transferable, and it was. I was more concerned that Tesla would remove the license and they understood this and were extremely helpful confirming that I would get it. We test drove it to the Supercharger and confirmed that it worked under my account BEFORE I bought it too. We jointly called Tesla and they gave them permission to share info on the car with me to confirm the condition of the battery, again before I committed to buying the car! Tesla will not share these details if you don't own the car. I don't know about the other poor reviews here, and I was also cautious and skeptical, but they were super helpful, friendly, and professional with me. The car was nicely detailed inside and out when I left. I was standing behind the car before leaving and noticed the paint on the trunk lid was scratched, and Alex ran off and came back with touch-up paint without me even asking, and touched it up. I am extremely happy with my "replacement" Tesla from Star that got me out from under my very limited first Tesla! For a small amount of money I was able to upgrade my bare-bones S to a slightly newer much nicer loaded S!
