    Octopus carpaccio
    Ray N.

We are here outside on the sidewalk, which was nice as I had my dog, we could see the folks passing by, and it was a sunny day. The food is amazing here. We got raw miyagi oysters and they were fresh and tasted clean. Very on par with oysters I've had at Zuni Cafe. We also got the scallop ceviche: it was nicely seasoned, the scallop was fresh (and the flavor came through) and the cucumber, onion, and sauce were complementary but not overpowering. We also got the octopus carpaccio, which was tender and dressed really nicely with a tasty combo of fingerling potatoes and olives. Finally, we had the Dungeness crab seafood salad: the crab was very fresh and flavorful, and it was lightly dressed so the flavor came through. It was like tasting the ocean. Really enjoyed all of it, and will be back.

Large Poke Bowl with Tuna and Yellowtail
    Anna L.

I got a large poke bowl with tuna and yellowtail, half and half greens with rice, and a soy dressed to go to eat at the park next door. It was around $26 and ended up being underwhelming. The sauce tasted like just pure soy sauce and was extremely salty without any other flavors. The tuna had no natural tuna taste and just tasted like salty soy sauce with a not so pleasant tuna texture. Yellowtail was a bit better in terms of natural fish flavor and texture. The greens were okay, kind of bitter and just dressed in lemon juice I'm guessing. Avocado was extremely minimal. This bowl left much to be desired, and I had a hard time finishing it even though I love poke usually. The price was pretty expensive and it also took 15/20 minutes to make even though there was only one other customer in the store. I would not recommend the poke, although their other menu items look better.

Came here in search of some fresh fish but left without buying anything. I felt like the quality of the fish wasn't up to par with some of the other places that I've visited and the pricing was definitely on the top end. Maybe I will give them another try in the summer season when there should be more local product. NOPA Fish in the Ferry Building is still by far the best quality product that I've found for seafood in the city and is the gold standard that I measure all other seafood spots by.

San Francisco has lots of seafood places all around the city. Walking through Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 there are so many places to grab seafood. You can also go around to the different restaurants in San Francisco and they also offer delicious seafood. The original dish native to San Francisco is the Cioppino . There are few places to grab this San Francisco classic . There is one place away from the waterfront which is seafood market and cafe which also serves this delicious Cioppino and it's on 24th street in Noe Valley. Billingsgate seafood market and cafe offers lots of different locally sourced fishes and dishes. You will find sushi rolls and poke. They also sell raw oysters and lobster. Since it's soup season I usually get is the Clam Chowder but I decided to try their Lazy Man's Cioppino. The flavor of the Lazy Man's Cioppino was so delicious. Since it's the Lazy Man's Cioppino all the theatrics of cracking shell fish it's already done before receiving the dish. I find all that Cioppino crab leg cracking usually is high maintenance like some around in SF. The Lazy Man's Cioppino had squid , octopus, mussels, and shrimp. I will be back for another bowl soon. Inside you will also find wine and champagne along with caviar. This is the spot to shop for seafood to go to cook at home or grab a cooked or raw seafood plate and enjoy it inside. You can go on 24th street in San Francisco and enjoy different seafood "dishes "that are "delicious "and "nutritious "and also fresh different types of "fishes" The seafood meat is fresh and "soft " and the soups have a tasty "broth " be careful because the Lazy Man's Cioppino can stain your" cloth " go on Tues- Friday 3pm- 5pm when Oysters & Cava is "50% off"

No visit to San Francisco is complete for us without a meal at Billingsgate. And so we found ourselves here 2 weekends ago right as they opened. Super fresh seafood, oysters galore, fine dining level presentation, very clean and bright interior with tasteful decor. The hamachi crudo and octopus carpaccio were absolutely delightful. I am quite sure I can just have 3 servings of the crudo and call it good. One day... The clam chowder was hearty and full of clams and seafood. Scallops were tasty but overshadowed by the other dishes. The glasses of cava reminded us we were on holiday :) There is a farmers market conveniently right beside the shop to walk a little after the meal. Try it for yourself!

I'm met my friend here for the happy hour and we got some oysters--they were fresh and delicious! I came early and was super hungry, so I got the avocado roll in the meantime which hit the spot. The people working there were also super chill and easy to talk to which I appreciated! It seems like they have a cool crew there. Anyway, don't sleep on this spot. It is a gem with a wide high-quality selection.

Great oyster happy hour spot!! We love coming here on Friday for discounted oysters. Their seafood is fresh and the service is great. It's always the same fellas working and are always so pleasant. You can order fresh fish to go!

The server was super nice and quick to help us when we were unsure of what to order. Ordering both items, poke bowl and clam chowder was good enough for my friend and me. Unfortunately, i have to rate this place low because the clam inside the clam chowder was not clean. The clam still had some sand or dirt inside. Poke bowl was not bad. Just a bit underwhelming for me.

Some of the freshest seafood around. There's so many options! Fresh crab, lobster, oysters, clams, and fish! If you're in the mood for seafood this place hits the spot. I didn't try the clam chowder but it smelled amazing! Nestled in the heart of noe valley. Quaint and clean restaurant with friendly and attentive staff.

If you're a seafood lover, Billingsgate is a must-visit in the heart of Noe Valley, SF. The space is clean with a touch of elegance, perfect for a solo outing or a small group catch-up. What instantly catches the eye is the gorgeous display of fresh seafood on ice. It looks so good you'll want to order everything. Whether you're in the mood for a full meal or picking out your own cuts by the pound, Billingsgate makes it easy. The bonus? A thoughtfully curated wall of wines, premium pastas, spicy hot sauces, and sides that take your seafood experience to another level. I ordered the Billingsgate Poke, and I can't stop thinking about it. Yellowfin tuna over sushi rice, dressed in a rich soy-sesame blend, with creamy avocado, toasted nori, cilantro, scallions, sesame seeds, and a touch of chili flakes. It's served with a chilled fork that somehow makes every bite even better. Cold, bold, and beautifully balanced. This dish is a knockout. The staff sealed the deal. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they serve. If you're serious about seafood, Billingsgate is not just a place to eat. It's a place to savor. A short review really doesn't do it justice.

SUMMARY: Incredibly fresh food, attention to detail, amazing decor, friendly and helpful staff!!! We arrived here right when happy hour started; luckily we ended up being the only ones there. Billingsgate is in a great location to walk around before or after your meal. First impressions upon walking in was being greeted by the friendly staff and seeing the clean and simple interior. We came here for the happy hour oysters but ended up ordering much more, which turned out to be a phenomenal decision because everything was so good. Put this place HIGH on your list of places to try! Here's what we ordered with some tasting notes. Common theme is how fresh everything tasted: MIYAGI OYSTERS -As fresh as they come -Paired with great sauce -Must go for happy hour POKE -Fresh fish -Ginger scallion, tuna and salmon -Comes with avocado CLAM CHOWDER -Clammy & Creamy -Subtle bacon flavor, not overpowering -Loaded with ingredients. Fresh and well balanced LAZY MANS CIOPINNO -Enticing smell -Smokey and roasted, rich taste -Every individual ingredient was flavorful -Medley of seafood Misc notes: -Clean bathroom -Nice decor and details -Good music -Chilled water glasses

Walking into this place felt like entering a fancy fish market. They offer sit-down meals, take-away options, and cuts of the most divine seafood. We enjoyed a poke bowl, which was delicious but lacked diversity and crunch. I wish there were more toppings and that the price was more reasonable.

Service was really nice. Food was tiny and not very good. Probably better to buy fish here then eat dinner.

I did find a place where no meat would be available in SF . Once I started thinking of this place I started to map out hella meal possibilities with me creating dishes like San Francisco's native dish Cioppino and also making some salmon dishes along with some okay shrimp dishes like fried shrimp, skewer shrimps on the barbie, and scallop ceviche. The real feast on Good Friday would be getting the Dungeness Crab paired with some garlic noodles . This place has been a Mission District seafood institution and it's called Sun Fat Seafood company ( a former employee started Basa Seafood Express on 24th street). You will also see Dungeness Crab during crab season and also find of variety of fresh oysters selection along with scallops. You will also see sushi rolls when available along with different types of fishes. This place was the solution I was looking for to replace meat cravings and replace with seafood during Good Friday feast. I can't wait to get back home to Southern California with all my goodies! If you're looking for an unforgettable experience, JAGALCHI market is the place to be. You won't regret it!

As a Korean supermarket, this place has pretty much everything you could want, from fresh produce to hard to find Korean seasonings and ingredients. Couldn't ask for more! They also have a huge selection of prepared hot food. While you can definitely get better Korean food at a dedicated restaurant, I was still impressed by the sheer variety and convenience. I live pretty far away, so I probably wouldn't make a special trip just for Jalgachi, but I'd absolutely stop by whenever I'm in the area. And maybe next time I'll finally try the restaurant!

And then there are restaurants that have been doing their thing for more than a century and couldn't care less about your latest culinary buzzword. Welcome to Swan Oyster Depot...or, as Anthony Bourdain famously regarded it...His "Happy Zone." Walking into this legendary San Francisco institution, apparently the luck of the Irish was riding shotgun because we only waited about 20 minutes before two coveted counter seats opened up. Twenty minutes at Swan? That's not a wait. That's practically a reservation. Once seated, you immediately understand why this place has remained special for generations. Part neighborhood bar. Part fishmonger. Part seafood counter. And 100% old-school San Francisco. The long marble counter creates an intimate, shoulder-to-shoulder experience where personal space becomes negotiable and the stranger sitting next to you somehow becomes your dining companion. Regulars mix with newcomers. Tourists mix with locals. Conversations bounce across the counter. And somehow, by the time you've finished your meal, the guys behind the counter practically know your name, your seafood preferences, and possibly enough information to send you a Christmas card. We started with a mixed dozen of Kumamoto and Miyagi oysters which were cold, plump, briny, and beautifully fresh. Each oyster tasted like someone had somehow captured an ocean breeze inside a shell. A splash of mignonette added just enough acidity and brightness without interfering with what Mother Nature had already done perfectly. Then came the Crab Salad. Calling this merely a "salad" feels almost dishonest as this was basically an excuse to pile glorious morsels of sweet, meaty crab onto a plate and pretend vegetables were somehow involved. The crab was clean, delicate, and wonderfully fresh. But then came an unexpected combination...Crab + Horseradish. Yep, trust me...they're FIRE together. The natural sweetness of the crab followed by that sharp, sinus-clearing bite of horseradish created one of those combinations that makes you stop chewing for a second and wonder..."Where have you been all my life?" And whatever you do...DON'T FORGET THE BREAD. That simple bread becomes an essential piece of equipment for soaking, scooping, dragging, and making absolutely certain nothing delicious remains behind. Next came Swan's legendary Sicilian Sashimi...Tuna, Salmon, Scallops. Beautifully fresh seafood draped in olive oil and lemon with capers scattered throughout, creating a dish that's simultaneously rich, bright, salty, and refreshing. The olive oil gave the fish a silky richness. The lemon brought acidity and the capers added little bursts of briny intensity. Just excellent seafood treated with respect. Then came the perfect finale for a chilly San Francisco Summer day...Clam Chowder. Hot, Silky, Comforting, and generously loaded with chopped clams. One spoonful and suddenly that famous San Francisco summer weather doesn't seem so bad. By the bottom of the bowl, you're practically ready to walk outside wearing shorts...well kinda. What makes Swan Oyster Depot truly special, however, isn't simply the seafood. It's the experience. This place has been around since 1912, and thankfully, nobody appears particularly interested in reinventing it. No reservations, No elaborate dining room, No designer plating, No attempts to become the hottest new restaurant in town, and NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. Just a marble counter, incredibly fresh seafood, colorful personalities behind it, and more than a century of doing things the same straightforward way...Do it right the first time. That's why locals continue coming. That's why tourists willingly wait. That's why chefs talk about it. And that's why places like Swan become increasingly precious as San Francisco continues to change around them. Overall: 5 stars. Swan Oyster Depot isn't merely somewhere you go for seafood...it's somewhere you go for a little taste of old San Francisco. From the pristine Kumamoto and Miyagi oysters and ridiculously generous Crab Salad to the bright Sicilian Sashimi and soul-warming Clam Chowder, everything feels wonderfully uncomplicated, exceptionally fresh, and completely authentic. More than a century later, Swan doesn't need to follow culinary trends. The trends can wait outside in line. Anthony Bourdain had it right...This really is a Happy Zone. Come hungry...and Go Big!!!

The tricky part with the secret menu is not knowing how much it costs, wondering if you brought enough cash (there's an ATM nearby). The crabsanthemum was amazing ($30ish, watch out, depending on the size of the crabs they might run out early), as was the Sicilian sashimi ($32 for a small). Oysters were expertly shucked, prawn cocktail was perfect. I'd either skip the clam chowder next time or just get a cup of it - got hungry waiting and thought a bowl was a good idea, and it's fine but not nearly as good as everything else. The staff are efficient but don't rush you, and this place is as old-school as everyone says - pencil math on a napkin for your total, cash register from the 1930s, backless stools at the counter. Damn I love it.
