I'm finally catching up on my reviews! This is from 5 months ago! We used to love the original Bar Crudo above the Stockton tunnel! This was a longtime ago, back before we got busy with raising a family! So when they opened on Divisadero, we wanted to check it out! We came here for happy hour. Their HH is 5:00-6:30 and it's a great menu! (They are closed on Sundays.) This space is so chic - feels elevated and "date night-ish". Very clean and modern inside. Mostly 2 and 4 tops. Lovely interior! We had a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated quickly. So very nice! Get a little of everything! We had the draft Fieldwork Brewing for $5.25. We also had the shishito $10 which were perfectly seared. It was topped with very flavorful boquerones. I'll order 2 plates next time! The seafood chowder $12 was delicious - chunks of fish, shrimp, mussels. Very good - highly recommend the chowder too. The Manila clams $12 was delicious. It had pieces of chorizo and kale, I would have loved more kale in there! We had a lovely meal! What also elevated the experience for us was our server Karen. Best fish sandwich I've ever had. Perfect crispiness and spicy slaw. I've had like 5 now and quality is amazing every time. Last night they had Pliny the YOUNGER paired with it for SF Beerweek. Mind blowing combo. Hokkaido scallop crudo and tuna tostada are exceptional too. Great vibe and Giang takes great care of us every time we visit. I love that you can dress up or be chill and this place still fits the bill. Highly recommend this place! read more

I absolutely love this place. The food is super tasty, very fresh and unique in presentation as others have said. The seafood chowder is the absolute best anywhere in my opinion, both buttery and a little sweet with morsels of seafood that taste incredible. The happy hour menu has a lot of great options, and letting HH go until 6:30 is generous and appreciated by those of us who can't get out of work early. But part of why I want to write a review is to talk about the overall experience of being here. Yes, the space is so cozy (perfect for a date), but it's more than that. This is fine dining in a casual atmosphere. Everyone I've ever encountered who works here is a serious professional. They time everything perfectly, and because they are so smooth in managing their crowds, you can usually get in here despite their popularity. You know how certain trendy restaurants can act impatient with people for not making reservations, as if you should have worked harder for the privilege of dining there? This place is the opposite. They are extremely warm and welcoming, even when busy. They are gracious. And that is why Bar Crudo is one of my favorite places to go. With that said, you should make a reservation because they do get busy especially as the night goes on, but if you didn't that doesn't mean you can't go! read more

Bad crudo was easily one of my favorite spots in the city for some fresh seafood! I loved the vibe in the restaurant, it's a perfect spot to eat good food and have a few drinks with some friends. The staff were very warm and welcoming and kept our white wine bottle cold in the cooler :) the seafood was extremely fresh and the crudo was delicious! I would come with a group of people so you can try multiple things. Would definitely come back and also highly recommend you make a reservation! read more

Came here for happy hour on a Friday night! It's from 5-6:30pm and at 4:50pm there were already about 3-4 groups line up. We ordered a dozen oysters, the chowder, tacos, and shishito peppers. Favorites were definitely the oysters and shishito peppers! The oysters were fresh and sweet, just melted in my mouth. The shishito peppers also had a really good lemon oil drizzled all over it. The tacos were super packed, I thought the cod was good but a little too much batter on the ends. The chowder was super creamy and a little too heavy for me but it had lots of seafood and was sweet and tasty! Really enjoyed our meal at Bar Crudo. We wandered in around 8pm on a Friday after several other spots turned us away. We were able to be seated right away and the service was friendly and prompt. I was a little apprehensive about all the raw seafood, but once we tasted everything, it was great. The flavors in the crudo sampler were paired so well. We also split the monkfish entree which was delicious. The wine selection was good too. read more

The oyster had a couple bits of shell and were saltier than I expected. I was a little confused about the ketchup that came with the mussels and oysters, I wasn't sure what it was for. The sauce for the oysters was vinegar forward. The mussels had a nice crunch of peppers on top, they were very citrusy and vinegary, and then the texture of the mussel was different from anything I'd had before. My favorite item was the fish tacos, the sauces, the crunchy and pickled toppings, and the warm flaky fish were great. I would come back for the tacos and when it's cooler, the seafood chowder. We came on a hot day and it was pretty warm and stuffy inside so it was nice to sit outside in the shade. read more

been meaning to try this spot out and I'm so glad that I did! Some of the best crudo and seafood chowder I've ever had. We started off with some oysters. They tasted fresh and had a variety of different sources to choose from. Then we have the Cardoza sampler. Every Crudo had such unique flavor profiles. The fish tasted very fresh with interesting flavor pairings. Our favorite was the trout and we ended up ordering a half order at the end of our meal. The seafood chowder was also amazing. A small bowl packed with variety of seafood, potatoes, and bacon. Lastly, we got the spaghetti which had fresh thick cut noodles with clams and mussels. Slightly on the dryer side, but still very flavorful with a great chew on the noodle. Overall, we had a delicious dinner with great service. Our waitress was super friendly and very accommodating. Staff was very welcoming even though we didn't have a reservation, they were happy to have us sit for as much time as they had available. Came here from a locals recommendation and I loved it! I'm so thankful that San Francisco has great public transportation because I had a great happy hour with plenty of drinks and food for a price that would not break the bank. Not pictured or the glasses of wine that I had during happy hour. There's plenty of room inside, but because I was alone person eating I sat at the bar. Everyone was very friendly, including strangers I struck a conversation with. The hostess and the waitress who took my order were also really nice and I had a great conversation with them as an out-of-towner. I told him that I was there for seafood and ordered as much as I could for the oysters, mussels, and clams. I wish I lived closer so I could have this everyday! Lovely quick bite before a show at the Independent. We got a seat at the bar and split a few small things, the tuna tostada and a seafood chowder. Went to Bar Crudo happy hour Monday around 6pm by myself, no bar seats open but they had standing tables to use while waiting, took about 30 mins. Place was busy, but staff even asked if I wanted more at cutoff time. Only got a few small things before dinner elsewhere, oysters fresh and delicious, wish I could've fit 12. Love the pairing of shishito peppers and anchovies but wished they were more blistered, kinda undercooked. Wine was good too. Would go back for happy hour again and try more. read more

Dropped in here for happy hour with my mom and was pretty excited. Please don't come here if you don't like fishiness in your seafood lol. you will be very disappointed. The happy hour drink menu has one white and one red option so we did one of each. The white is technically a portugese verde. I thought they were both fine, nothing particularly special. We did half a dozen oysters which were delicious. Fish tacos, and seafood chowder were also very good. They offered a nice contrast to some of the cold items on the menu. The one item I was a bit unsure of was the crudo sampler. Each item had a lot going on between sauces/toppings, and while the fish seemed fresh it didn't seem quite like sashimi grade I was expecting. Overall, think this is a good spot to start your night for some drinks and a few light bites but wouldn't recommend it as a spot for a full meal. read more

Amazing happy hour! We ordered off of the happy hour menu: 1/2 dozen oysters + 1/2 dozen mussels, the cod tacos, and wine. The oysters tasted fresh and the mussels had a delicious jalapeño marinade. I would recommend ordering a full dozen of the oysters and full dozen of mussels, perfect amount for 2 people. Reasonable pricing. The service was attentive and friendly. Bar Crudo is located in NOPA. My visit was during happy hour offered Monday - Saturday 5-630pm. You can order from a small list of discounted seafood items, beers for $5, and wines for $9. I ordered oysters, seafood chowder, and Manila clams. The oysters were small to medium and briny. The seafood chowder was light creamy, loaded with muscles, shrimp, squid, and fish.......so good. What a lovely spot for happy hour in Nopa! They run a great happy hour menu from 5-6:30 with $9 glasses of wine and $12 dishes. There were two wines on the menu (one white and one red) and a draft beer. We ordered the mussels, steamed clams, shishito peppers, and fish tacos and all were so amazing. It was fully packed as soon as they opened for happy hour at 5 so I would recommend making a reservation if you can. One patron in the restaurant had an awkward experience with one of the servers, where after paying the bill, the server returned to the table to ask why a patron had tipped a mere 12%. Besides that though, the entire experience and service was very pleasant. It is quite loud when it is busy, so we did have to raise our voices to talk. read more

Always a great place for happy hour. Came recently and got oysters, mussels, chowder, tacos, and wine. There wasn't a wait to get in but can typically get busy. Service is always great and fast. Mussels are delish and plump and enjoy the marinade. Oysters seem to have gone downhill in the many years I've been here but will still order. They've got a decent happy hour menu, but nothing was exceptionally mind-blowing. For years I've heard so much hype about their seafood chowder. Funnily enough, after having a taste, it tasted exactly like buttered popcorn. I got a variety of items to try this day: happy hour oysters, mussels, baked oysters in miso butter and nori butter, shishito peppers, fish tacos, seafood , and the crudo sampler. The only things worth it were the miso butter oysters, mussels, and the scallop crudo. Everything else was pretty tasteless or strange tasting. I wouldn't recommend the crudo sampler. It was too expensive at $45 for bland fish. Still good for happy hour oysters though. read more

Overpriced and not worth, this place gave me the worst stomach ache. I ordered their seafood platter which came with the oysters, mussels, shrimp and clams. The shrimp was not deveined which I personally find a bit gross. The clam chowder was $16 for a small cup and was pretty mediocre. What a perfect place for happy hour with the girls! My friends and I came on a chilly Saturday. The staff was very accommodating and allowed us to sit upstairs (they usually don't open the upstairs until later) so we could keep warm. They have wonderful happy hour deals including $2 oysters and $9 glasses of wine! I had their house white wine which was light, crisp and paired well with the seafood. The oysters were fresh. The mussels were good, but it was my first time having chilled mussels & I realized I prefer them warm. The mussels came topped with a marinade which was a little overpowering. The shishito peppers were a nice addition to the seafood. My favorite dish was the crudo sampler, the flavor profiles for each piece of crudo was thoughtfully designed. The salty scallop with the sweet and acidic blood orange & my favorite, the trout with the wasabi tobiko that wasn't so overpowering (i tend to find wasabi too strong, but not in this case). I would come back just for the crudo sampler that's made for two but I would eat it myself!! Overall, I would definitely come back & try some more items on the menu. Cod tacos 2.5/5 - really good sauce and has a good crisp, but overall tasted bland with slight burnt-ish flavor and wouldn't get again. 4. Firstly, I won't ding Bar Crudo any points for an aggressive lack of vegetarian options. It's on me to know what I'm getting into walking into such a seafood-centric joint. That said, since they do make a point of having a single vegetarian dish (aside from bread and butter), which is actually a version of a lobster dish sans lobster, I will judge it based on that concession to non-meat eaters. The Heirloom Tomato Salad minus Lobster is a solid dish, but is still more of a share plate than a meal. The flavors of the burrata and corn work together nicely, but the tomatoes themselves are left in such large hunks that there simply isn't enough surface area for the enormous wedges to be adequately coated in the dressing. Therefore, the deliciousness per bite is all over the map, even if the best bites are delightful. Plus, being an appetizer, the salad is served on a narrow plate that makes it nearly impossible to mix the ingredients. Lastly, while I'll once again acknowledge that I'm aware of the cuisine style, it would still make sense for them to have some protein addition to the single dish conceived of for vegetarians. Given how clear the intention is, one might think they could add a hero flavor to replace the lobster. Even so, the space is beautiful and chic, and I was there to celebrate a seafood lover, so I can't get too hung up on the menu, even if I wouldn't ever go there by myself. read more

San Francisco, NoPa. April 2024. This is a long established and reliable place for a late afternoon happy hour of seafood, and wine or beer. Dinner is probably very pleasant here but it's all about the happy hour here for me. They open at 5:00 and for an hour and a half you can get their oyster of the day for $2 each. They specify a half or whole dozen on the menu but I think you can get just a few, or some number in between, too. And, they don't appear to limit how many you can order. If you're in the mood to get crazy with fresh shucked raw oysters on the halfshell, with mignonette + cocktail sauce + lemon, then you'll want to venture out this way. They listed 6 oysters available but the daily happy hour one was Drake's Baja oyster. These were small shells with small to medium oysters, probably a variety of Kumamoto. Hit the oyster w just a couple of drop of lemon to get creaminess and a medium textured bite. Then slurp a bit of the oyster liquor - it is very briny, reflecting a salinty of the ocean in Baja - go easy on the oyster liquor or your palate will get overwhelmed by the salt. There is also a herb and jalapeno marinated chilled mussel, for $2 apiece, that is nice with something sparkling. The HH seafood chowder has a lot of variety and is not too thick. I thought the HH steam manila clams, w white wine, leks, kale, and chorizo were the best item after the oysters - very much like a classic Spanish/Portugese clam and sausage dish. If you're on this stretch of Divisadero, north of the Panhandle and Lower Haight, Bar Crudo is a good place to drop by for happy hour. read more

I came in because I heard great things about their seafood chowder, and it was also happy hour, so we also ordered the Local Crispy Cod Tacos and a half dozen of their Oysters of the Day: in this case it was Drakes Bay Oysters. They were delicious with the sauce that came with it. The fish tacos were also good. The service was fast and prompt, and the ambiance was cozy. Still a good choice especially over happy hour, not quite the same as I it's hay day, but still reliable. There aren't the queues at 4.45 outside that there used to be and you can quite easily get a spot, at the countertop at least, on arrival. Oysters at 2 bucks a piece are decent, with the type changing regularly. I've seen the return of the Lobster, heirloom Tomato and Burrata salad which I recall being excellent, but looks a lot smaller these days. The Seafood Chowder is still tasty, but again, not a huge portion. Wine and Beer selections seem to have increased. Worth a stop if you're in the area. read more
