I went to Ace on Clayton Road to return some Christmas lights and use the credit to buy a few other things. The cashier who helped me with the return, Penny (?) was incredibly helpful. As I looked for other items for Christmas, KK, one of the managers, helped me find everything I needed and even helped me carry them out to my car. We came in on Memorial Day. I really like all the cute yard decorations. We came in for light bulbs. We also purchase bamboo poles to build an A frame to grow hops on. We asked the employee for his suggestion on the best way to secure the bamboo poles to secure the A frame.he said- I don't know, whatever you like... maybe just ask someone else. Thinking maybe due to the holiday, the seasoned employees were off. Everyone else we spoke to was friendly enough, just not very knowledgeable about projects. Wonderful service and experience with Bren in getting a new auto key fob. He offered options available for my situation, which was not done by other Ace locations where applicable. And certainly not by the dealerships. The job was completed in short order and Bren was able to solve a subsequent issue immediately. Always friendly fast customer service. I walked in almost closing time and i got no negative or wierd response from employees because i needed to fill our tank with propane for our outside heater. They had me pay inside and drive to the back for the propane. The employee in the back was super nice and helpful letting us know the tank had expired and he would not be able to fill it and that we would need a new tank which was going to cost more. We agreed. We had to go back up front to pay and then back again with the receipt to get the new tank. The employees were waiting for us and reopened the doors even after they were closed. Email Exchange yesterday with Bill Wygal of Bill's Ace Hardware Hi Bill, I have two garden hoses that I bought at Ace Hardware Concord. They both leak at the connection. I used some waterproof tape but they are still leaking. My wife gets upset every time she uses them! Rod Thanks for reaching out those are an over-the-counter guarantee so there's no problem replacing the hoses. The brass fitting on the end of the garden hoses is probably bad. Some of the workers are not very friendly. Maybe a case of working on the holidays. I asked one of the workers about the Christmas decor which doesn't go on sale the day after Christmas and right when I walked off, one of the workers snickered and said "why can't people just wait to buy them next year". This is a very busy time of the year, but ace hardware employees have managed to be friendly, helpful and informative. I went in looking for items to replace a toilet seat as well as to hang things on my wall. Leo helped guide me as to wear to find the nails and anchors and informed me what would be best to use for what I was hanging. When I wandered into the toilet seat department, Katie helped me to find the one I needed and the other equipment I may need to switch out my toilet seat. Visited this store today in search of a part for a toilet my parents purchased here 2 years ago. I couldn't find the correct part and asked for assistance. I was directed to Don. Hate this store. I've been in here several times unfortunately and have never been greeted. Are these people always just busy when I walk in because it's awfully funny when my white husband walks in front of me he is greeted but not if I walk in first. I hate to play the race card but really. Every other person has been greeted when I'm in the vicinity of the front door when they are white. I hope I'm wrong but it's happened far too many times now. Ace hardware has been our local hardware store for many many years. I know when I go in there I'm always going to be helped with friendly customer service. It doesn't matter if it's plumbing electrical and today it was the paint department. Today KK helped me and she is the sweetest woman. Not only does she know every inch of the store... she always makes me feel like I'm so welcomed. I know if she's working and I need help... She's the one I look for!! they called security the moment I walked into the store and had someone follow me throughout the store for quite a few minutes. the lady came up to me and talked to me about my doc martins to try to be polite but she knew I had caught her stalking me. the only thing i had done was grab something from the front and walked fast to keep up with my dad who was already deeper in the store. i think it was one of the ladies in the front who had sent someone to follow me. Regardless I purchased my items and left but the entire event has left a sour taste in my mouth and I will not be returning. Everyone here is always so friendly and knowledgeable. We don't always come to Ace because their prices tend to be on the higher side compared to Home Depot, but it is interesting because we have found that there are some things that they have great pricing on here or other items that we couldn't find at the local Home Depot or Lowes. For example, our recent trip was to pick up a lot (ended up being 20+ bags) of Red tanbark/mulch. We tried to find that at multiple Home Depots, Lowes, Gardening shops and even went to a Contra Costa stone/mulch supply place in Martinez (I can't remember the name of it now), and had NO luck. It felt like a wild goose chase. In the end, we just bought all the bags from this Ace, which was great that they had that much, and received excellent service throughout our multiple trips there. The guys that helped load the bags of tanbark in our truck were super friendly and great at their job. I think Michael was his name, and he was especially happy to help. When I came back to get more bags, they remembered me and made sure I got taken care of. This store is exactly what I would envision when I think of a little town hardware store and I love it! read more

It use to be you could go into this store and the employees were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. WHAT HAPPENED? If I'm paying a premium I expect premium service. If I wanted employees to be rude, disinterested and walking away from me I'd go to Home Depot. I was so incredibly disappointed that, even though this store is in my backyard, I'll drive the 15 mins to Home Depot. They got 2 stars because they had what I needed and parking was easy. First off I would like to say we've all been to an Ace multiple if not 100+ in our life most service is okay and decent help. However, one Monday 11/11 I decided to go to Ace to get a few things we needed for our house figured I'd have to guess at the things hoping they would be correct. Nope this store went above and beyond. There was a younger gentleman who helped me with finding a filter for our AC he was so informative and helpful and funny and kind I wish I remembered his name he was outstanding. I decided to browse Christmas and the bbq and KK sweet lady went above and beyond to help me. There was a Christmas item I was between the two and the display of one had batteries dead instead saying oh well like most stores do.. nope she went and chance the batteries!! Needless to say I went home with that Christmas head snowman! Then I didn't see the bbq my husband has been looking to get she said let's see if we have it at the warehouse to ship here. I'm telling you I wanted to hug her because of how kind caring and personable she was. KK went above and beyond. I truly wish more employees were like the younger gentleman and KK. I spoke to 2 very nice ladies that was very nice and friendly. Once I noticed there was no respirators I got a little upset and the ladies didn't want me leave mad. She assumed I wanted to speak to a manager but im not that kind of shopper. I belive words are a powerful tool theses days by leaving reviews. I want to give Thomas a big shot out at his approach to handle the situation. I wasn't looking for a hand out I needed respirator due to the ash because I'm working out side. I can't imagine a more customer oriented hardware store than this Bill's Ace Hardware. I bought my husband a grill (not from there) thinking as a handy person, I could put it together since we built our last grill ourselves. After looking over the instructions, I decided to be smart and hire someone to assemble it for me instead. I called around to a few places, but this particular Bill's asked me if I was an Ace Rewards member (we are) and if so, to bring it right in and they would assemble it for me! I was in need of a hamburger presser. I checked online and it said this store had a couple in stock. Let me say I was initially surprised that I was acknowledged with a greeting walking into the store by a busy cashier. After arriving at the store I searched for the presser but could not find it. I stopped Ms. K.K. and she went above and behind to help. Ms. K.K searched the computer and the entire store high and low but could not locate the item. She then reached out to a couple of stores with no success but offered to order me one. I always say customer service is dead, but Ms. K.K proved me wrong.
