I must admit that Ace Hardware is my favorite hardware store. Its been a lot of visits in these past few years since I wrote my last review. Customer service is second to none. I'm always helped when I need it. The employees are smart and efficient and enjoyable to be around. Not like some stores where employees avoid you. I'm a landlord now and this location has come to my rescue for all the things that I've needed in the upkeep of my property. Everything from fire extinguishers, new smoke alarms, signage, all those little weird construction things you might need. This is an East Bay must have store. Bought Craftsman hand tools with a lifetime warranty even advertised as such in Bill's Ace Hardware store. tried to return for a replacement tool and was told that they would not and did not honor the craftsman lifetime warranty. In my opinion you should not be able to sell Craftsman tool and not honor the warranty. You get to sell them at premium prices because of the lifetime warranty and then not honor it!!! This location is the BEST! My husband and I had an horrifying experience after purchasing a new car trailer and having it installed with the trailer company we were driving on the freeway halfway home and Boom! The trailer was sliding from side to side on the freeway we pulled to the side of the freeway with my 5 year old daughter in the back seat and the trailer went under my SUV. After calling the trailer company and being advised that it was installed incorrectly, the person failed to check the hitch ball size the trailer went on and the hitch ball was to small for a trailer that size and it came off the hitch ball. While talking to the trailer company my husband was able to get the trailer from under the vehicle and found Bill's Ace through google. So we drive to Bill's ace with the trailer on the too small hitch ball. Once we arrived, my husband went in and came out with Alberto. Alberto measured, checked and assed the trailer and hitch ball and made sure we had the proper size hitch ball. He installed it and remeasured and made sure it was the proper fit! So we went in to pay and was approached by Chris (store manager) and Matthew (Supervisor) who then told us that they spoke to my husband over the phone and listened to our horrible experience and decided they will not charge us for anything! and that this is what they were here for. Just as we were feeling like we can't catch a break, this happens and these exceptionally nice and pleasant people whom I've never met before came to help us out of a dangerous and scary situation. I have never received customer service like this. They made us feel like family in the short time we spent in their location. If I ever have to purchase anything that is needed for trucks and parts I will only go here. Customer service is everything and when placed in a situation like this and having people like them eased our situation and we made it home safe and sound. Thank you Bill's Ace! read more

Mr. Bill, I usually never write reviews but this is an exception. Tina who went way beyond an associates duties. We needed 8 red chairs and your store in Martinez only had 3 or4 I'm not sure. But she took my phone number and called another store in Concord, which she then got them on the truck so we could pick them up on Sunday. Called me back and was so helpful, polite, and I wish I had a few just like her working for me. Tina job well done. Thank you. Exhausting my resources with Amazon online, along with Walmart and Home Depot I ended up at this Ace hardware. Searching for Insert filter for my mask during these devastating wildfires in California. There was so much particles in the air It was hard to breathe. I wasted more time and energy with all these other businesses who don't know what they're doing.Now Realizing I should started with Ace hardware first! Their employee's are more helpful and Professional . David was a hero and found my mask filter's in less than 60 seconds. This is in response to Bill the owner's comments. There are several remarks he made that are incorrect: 1. What's the purpose of bringing up my mother's "happiness"? She's not writing this review. Last I checked, there's no law that says I must channel her or otherwise have the same exact reactions as her when shopping at businesses. 2. Speaking of my mother, she was NOT pleased that we were misled. She just simply did not show it to the staff at Ace. She was also at the store PRIOR to my going down there yesterday, hence it's obvious she was happy at that time. Once I filled her in on what occurred, trust me she was displeased. 3. With Bill saying "it was a waste of our time..." he seems to be blaming me for what happened, even though I'm not at fault. 4. There's absolutely no apology at all in the reply. Completely unprofessional and poor customer service. 5. It says on Ace's website that they can make car keys, plus we were assured by someone (may have been Bobby or not) that they had "never had a customer walk out of the store with a key that did not work" (their words. I'm paraphrasing a bit). That's NEARLY a guarantee. So what's with this, "We said we would try and try we did"? It's not that complex. If you say you can do it, then there's no "trying". 6. Two of the three people mentioned in his response did not help me. The first guy made me a key that could only open doors & the trunk but not start the car...even though I clearly stated why I was there. The second one then wanted me to pay almost NINETY bucks after saying "it's unlikely the key I can make with what we ordered will start your car". 7.. Bill saying they did not charge me for time and inconvenience or the attempts is also incorrect. First off, I did pay for the key the first guy made me. Second, it's not an additional cost for them for ordering the part. They can either use that for another customer who comes in and needs a key & drives my kind of car or just return it to the supplier for a refund. They will absolutely refund the part. It's clear Bill the owner is either: A: Lying OR B: Being misled (likely this one, considering I was misled myself) read more

Ace is the place! I don't know why I don't come here more often... I needed some more spray paint and potting soil. I was greeted by Bob who was so pleasant, he helped me find the paint that I needed. Which was $1.50 cheaper at Ace than at Hobby Lobby! Bob introduce me to Austin. Austin helped me find the best potting soil for my project and recommend happy frog... I walked out thinking, why don't I come here more often when I need items... Friendly, efficient and fast! I come into Ace often with various strange projects because I am a sculptor and artist. Sean at the Martinez store is great help....he knows me by now and that I have strange weird and interesting things that I need. He always helps me happily and brainstorms on solutions that is really helpful. The first time he helped me, we walked the store three times trying to find what all I needed...I didnt get everything that day but he was awesome. When I walk into Martinez, I look for Sean. I call this the Industry Hardware Store. First, it's across the street from the Refinery and second it's a convenient place to pick up a part for work or on the way home from work. They have a big parking lot and a bit selection of stuff. And the helpful folks get you in and out of there quickly with what you need. After all, time is money. read more

This is the store for all of your home improvement. I've been in twice and everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable. Bobby has helped me on both occasions and he's awesome! I'll find him any time I need help. He introduced himself to me and shook my hand, he knows where everything in the store is and can even give you advice on projects. This store is an asset to the community! Stopped in again, these guys treat you like family and have all the answers to my home improvement questions. I'm always so happy to walk into Bill's Ace Hardware... doesn't matter which store it is, you don't get that "big box" experience. There is always a personable, knowledgeable staff member there to help find what I need or answer my questions! The selection is very good and the inventory is always more than ample! On a separate note, but VERY important, Bill's goes the extra mile to help the community as well. I'm involved in homeless outreach and Bill always seem to keep track of our needs. I posted a need for water on Facebook two days ago and yesterday, Bill personally showed up at my house with 25 cases of water to donate to the cause! He has given cases of blankets before and countless rolls of plastic sheeting to help the homeless stay dry in rainy weather. So not only is he a great businessman with three stores and a great team, but he has a heart of gold and is eager to help whenever he can! Thanks so much! read more

The place is amazing, and the moment that you walk into the place, they are right there asking if there's anything that you need help with, and there's always someone near by in case you do need help. Also if the one that you're talking to doesn't know, then they know just the person that can help you and call them right up, and within a minute or two that person is right there. Can't get enough of the place, and love the bike section that they have, believe me, if they started selling electronics, they'd give Walmart a run for their money. Given the two choices of hardware stores here in Martinez, Ace by far proves to be the best choice! I will skip the (maybe) slightly less expensive option of going to Home Depot just to feel at home at Ace. Mary is an exceptional worker, and the most friendly woman on the planet! When Neil at Home Depot didn't have the right blank to copy my key, he told me to go here, since they have a lot of obscure or older types. He was right. The older guy who cut my key knew his stuff and did it fast. The young lady at the counter was very nice but not in a fake, "I'm being courteous because the manager told me to" way. The store is pretty modern too and makes good use of it's space, since the aisles seem roomy. Very impressed. read more

I love this hardware store. The employees are very knowledgable and wanting to help you find that special part you need for your project. Try going to a big box store or home depot and getting that type of service. They also are generous in the community and they have donated to both of my daughters fundraisers for the local schools. I don't have any relatives or friends that work for this store so I have no vested interest in giving them a good review other than that I want them to thrive because they are an awesome business. Some of the employees know me by name and because I am frequently there. I only go to Home Depot as A last resort. My daughter asked home depot for a donation for a school auction fundraiser and they told her to submit a request 6 months in advance. Are you kidding? Went here for the first time before christmas because my mother stopped in beforehand and told me they have gift bows on sale for 50 cents. I purchase the bows, don't realize that they are charging me 91 cents (bought 4 bags), and then after the kid rings me up I tell him that there was a mistake, that the bows were 50 cents. He shrugged and said "Well they are ringing up 91 cents". Then my friend chimes in and said "there's a sign on the box that says they are 50 cents". He stares at us, gets a phone call, and totally dismisses us. I walk over to check the box for my own sanity, and sure enough- the sign said 50 cents. I waited until he got off the phone, and as he took the next customer I said to him "By the way, it is 50 cents. I just checked the box. but that's ok..." He just kept on with the next customer. Now, I really don't give a damn about an extra 41 cents....per bag...that's not what upset me the most. 91 cents is still a damn good deal. What upset me was the following: -His attitude -His laziness -His extremely poor customer service. The register wasn't so far away that he couldn't walk his ass around and check the box out himself. His dismissive attitude was rude, and was so blatant that it took all I had to not yell at him. Family friendly environment...yeah right. It is people like this that need to be reminded that there are others out there who can do his job, and give it their all. I don't care if he was young, he was old enough to know better. read more

I'm sitting here in the parking lot after I went into this hardware store and I'm kind of ticked off. I'm in the last aisle where the shelving equipment is and I'm looking at shelving items for 5 to 10 minutes. There are 2 older female employees, one with glasses restocking items, standing approximately 20 feet away from me. One of them even walked in front of me several times and they never once asked me if I needed any help! This has happened several times . Update: I called the store and spoke with the on duty manager (Tim). Tim was very apologetic and listened to my concerns. I felt much better about the situation after talking with Tim and will continue to shop at this location. I even had to return to the store on the same day to make an exchange and within two minutes I was greeted by two other employees who asked me if I needed any help! read more
