Every time we're in Bandon, we make a point to come over to Billy's. The food is amazing and the drinks are delicious. Whether you're looking for a sports bar feel or fine dining - this place somehow manages to encompass both! However, I am finally writing a review because of the incredible service we received over the weekend. Sadly, my grandma  passed and we had a small celebration of life for her. They we're able to accommodate our group of 18-20, but offering a private room and still maintained COVID restrictions by placing us separately at tables of 6. Katie was our server and she was incredible. I have never, in my life, received such amazing service in a large group, as we did with her. Never once were our drinks empty, she knew the menu like the back of her hand and all of our food came out correct and warm. It was all so impressive. Not to mention, that she was simply so sweet - I am sure she knew why we were there and she really went above and beyond. Thanks to Katie - saying goodbye to our grandma was just a little bit easier. Ordered to go lunch here. Service was friendly and very quick. They had a nice selection of BBQ options. My husband grew up on KC BBQ, so he is very hard to impress. He loved the brisket plate. The potato salad was a little on the bland side, but honestly, still good. The tri tip salad was phenomenal. Kids Mac and cheese was creamy and Smokey and so great. We also tried the French dip which with tater tots, and it was great. They gave ample amounts of sauce which was so unbelievably nice. Inside was clean and bright. Would recommend! read more

I went there on January 1, 2025 for dinner. We arrived at 5:40pm and waited until 5:50pm when we were told to seat ourselves. There were apparently only 2 wait staff. After we seated, we waited for 40 minutes before someone came to take our order. One wait staff said they would be with us right away and then forgot about us. The 2nd wait staff finally arrived at 6:30pm to take our order! We asked how long it would take to get dinner and at least 1 hour plus! During this time, we saw a number of customers leave the restaurant after they had seated themselves. Later that night, we saw several of them at Asian Garden restaurant. I don't understand why management didn't prepare better for New Year's Day! The waiter told us that a phone call had been made to have a 3rd chef come in. The waiter suggested that we go to Asian Garden instead for dinner. I have never experienced this poor dining experience! Also, my husband and I do run 3 businesses and felt sorry for the wait staff. The half apology from the manager on another platform was blaming us for not being sympathetic to the situation. There are plenty of other restaurants to patronize in Bandon. read more

Stopped in here on the way home from a work trip. The place had the sports bar/BBQ joint vibe to it. The food was so good. They really know what they're doing in the kitchen. The staff checked on us just enough to make sure we were good I ordered the BBQ Boar Burger. The only thing I'd change about it would be the reduce the lettuce a little bit that's it. It had been a number of years since I have eaten here but our most recent visit was disappointing. While the service was first rate the quality of the food was lacking. The ribs tasted like they were cooked in a crock pot, the tri-tip tasted like it had been boiled, the burger was dry and flavorless, and the Mac and Cheese was basically a bowl of orange noodles. read more

Do not eat at this establishment. It is dirty, the food is substandard. There were 4 in our party. The prime rib was tough and had obviously been rewarmed using a salamander or a flat top, the New York steak, which was $34, was maybe a half an inch thick. The green beans were dripping with grease, and the fish and chips was obviously not homemade most likely taken out of the freezer. Was recommended by friends and did not disappoint. I had the meatloaf (new menu item) with smashed garlic potatoes and my fiancée had the prime rib with baked potato. So very sad they changed their menu. The best fettuccini Alfredo I've ever had. Would go about once a month. Won't ever be back. Now a sandwich/burger place with cheap quality food. Please bring back the pasta!!!!! I don't eat meat. read more

Went there yesterday 430pm, thought it was odd 3 cars in the parking lot. Waitress had a mask on... ok. Sat down ordered cod and chips, and my husband got tri-tip. When waitress showed up with the food, the cod was 2 fish sticks. Sooo, weird. My husband's steak came out in pieces, and cold. Fries cold, coleslaw looked old kind of runny, baked potatoe was really good. Waitress took the steak back to warm it, not sure how that was done but brought back cold again. Was told it was cold cuz the room was cold. Discussed with my husband that his steak was not tri-tip it was left over prime-rib. He agreed, steak does not get served in pieces. Also waitress never asked how he wanted his steak, he had to tell her and she looked confused.. weird. Went there for a date but wont go back. So when you roll into Bandon after 8:30 pm on a Sunday there are very few options for food. We have been here twice for food. The service is always good - our servers both times were attentive and really nice to help us pick food. The problem is there is nothing on the menu that blows us away. My boyfriend had the prime rib and it was very fatty. I had the patty melt which was good but nothing special. And the wine list leaves a lot to be desired. I'm really not that picky about wine but my cab had obviously been open awhile. The place is huge and not fancy at all - just a laid back bar. It must be terrible to be in a small town environment and provide such pathetic hospitality that the walk in and walk out were in less than two minutes. Hats off to a hostess who tried her best only to be sacked by another who was so eager to tell people she was the manager and it's her way or the highway. I've always felt bad for those who have gotten into business with no business background, hire people with far less enthusiasm and wha-la ! You have the dive that is Billy Smoothboars. I must admit I was looking forward to the experience (although I was advised against it by most) yet I took the chance. Absurdity best covers why I walked in and walked out in 120 seconds, I ventured into the bar (and I was the only one) only to be told that I couldn't sit at a table I chose due to it being reserved for larger parties (certainly reasonable) so I was sat at another table which was not ideal for viewing the television for a football game. I asked the hostess if I could rotate the table (not move it across the room, just rotate it 90°) as I did a barmaid came out and said we're not moving tables and I replied I wasn't asking her to, she then told me I wasn't moving the table to which I advised her the hostess had already given me permission. She again denied me and I got up and walked out. How petty could you possibly be ? How bad of a day did the "manager" have where rotating a table was going to carve a path of chaos into an otherwise boring day ? Again, there was one other person in the bar.... I left and returned to get the owners number to which I was denied, they did take my number to give to the owner. I had a call within 5 minutes from her only to listen to her embarrass herself in ways usually reserved for the egregiously inept, but forge ahead she did. This is where it gets interesting. The owner had the audacity to ask me if I would come into her house and move furniture around ? I explained (as I'm sure nobody ever has before) that this wasn't her house and that I was there to purchase food, service and hospitality.... and they were completely out of stock. So business management 101 was a complete failure for this ownership carnival, if you risk going in ? Prepare for the unknown.... there are some pretty refined establishments locally in Bandon but this certainly isn't one of them..... Spend your money and your time wisely by finding a more appreciative atmosphere.... And yes I absolutely told the owner what I thought of her manager and herself and I assure you it wasn't pretty .... but I had no desire to come say it to her face as she implored me to do.... read more

Today my wife and I visited a great restaurant in Bandon, Oregon. I've tried BBQ all over the Country and cannot remember the last time I enjoyed better tender smoked brisket. Been in Bandon for almost two weeks. Drive by this place often. Always looks busy but it's away from the downtown core. Finally decided to stop. We didn't wait long to get seated. Hostess was friendly. Waitress greeted us after about 10-15 minutes. Drinks came out quickly and were good. Dinner also came out quickly. Nothing super special, just good home cooked food. My prime rib was a little over cooked but was still tender. My wife's NY steak was very good. Sides were tasty. Of concern, the place was like a steam box making it a little uncomfortable. Stopped by on an evening out celebrating our anniversary. Husband ordered the prime rib with twice baked potato. It was cooked as ordered, very tender and the potato was stuffed with all the goodies! I ordered the prime rib stroganoff. Scratch made sauce and mushrooms paired with the tender prime rib chunks was delicious! Spicy margaritas were on point and the surprise of cranberry bread in our bread basket was so good! Our server was attentive and efficient! We went on a Friday about 5pm, there were only a couple of people. We were greeted and sat right away. Placed was clean and decorated for Christmas, nice and festive. Service and food was good. We had the fish and chips and soup with salad. Chowder was not to my liking but people have different tastes. I like my Chowder thick and creamy. The kind that you take a bite and know there's butter and half and half in it. Fish was good nice and juicy. The breading was crunchy. As we were finishing our meal people started to come in. We didn't have particularly high expectations for this place, but figured it would be at least decent food. Unfortunately, that was definitely not the case. The broiled scallops were swimming in a stunningly flavorless broth that claimed to be garlic butter but tasted of neither. The Mac and cheese must have been made with nothing but the blandest American, and even though it had bacon required copious shakings of salt to have any flavor at all. The prime rib stroganoff was acceptable, but it too was not particularly well seasoned. I will say at least the cranberry bread was very good. My wife and I had lunch at Billy Smoothboar's last week. Thrilled to see it open again, as we always loved stopping by for lunch or dinner when we travel the coast before so many closures. Had a very good fish and chips lunch while my wife enjoyed a burger. Both were very good and we look forward to many more trips to Billy's. Service was excellent. Had a young man server who was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We came to this restaurant less than an hour before closing and the staff was beyond accommodating. The food was amazing (prime rib perfectly cooked)! We had are two young boys and even as the restaurant was closing, the waitress was playing with them and they had a blast. I don't know how to rate the place. It's a local yokel joint. It all started with our drink order. We had 3 drinks and it was Goldilocks. One was too strong, one was 2 weak and the 3rd was strait booze on ice (can't f-that up). When it came to food, one order was forgotten and had to wait till everybody else was nearly finished. When it came to dinner itself it was ok. No major complaints. Bathrooms were almost clean. All in all I'm probably not going back anytime soon but don't let me stop you. Not IMPRESSED!!! Understanding the changing times and things are new but the one thing that is not new is providing great FRIENDLY service. We sat in the bar area at a 6 chair table when it was just the 2 of us because the smallest table in the bar was dirty. There were already 2 tables sat a 3rd just got sat and we made the 4th. The server seemed flustered with the 2 new tables coming in at the same time. Once she finally got there was NO FRIENDLINESS or introduction. Since it took awhile for her to get to our table we were ready to order, we were told there was no Twice Bake Potatoes or Bake Potatoes ok the Garlic Mash would be fine since the other choice is French Fries or Tater Tots. Along with placing our entree order we also ordered appetizers, well the soup and salad came first. Then about 10min later we were told no Garlic Mash. Ok Tater Tots it is. Will the entrees took another 20mins. 20min for Fried Shrimps and Shrimp Scampi with Tots. Can't imagine dinner took this long. Once dinner was delivered there was no check back. Ok to some it up. Outstanding dinner. Two had the prime rib, cooked to perfection, and outstanding steamed vegetables. I had the clili cheeseburger - the chili is some of the best i ever had! Not impressed and wont be back. 6 of us went out to dinner. First time there. 4 of us had b-days that weekend so we were looking for a "special night" as we do this every year at this time. The order was 3 prime ribs, 1 chicken basket, 1 fish and chips basket, 1 Billy Boar burger, and 3 prime rib dinners. My Billy Boar was warm not hot, the bacon was like jerky and the size of the meat itself was small for the price of the burger which was over $17. Service was good as was the ambiance. My wife had the chicken strip basket and had to send it back as it was left in the fryer too long and was way over done. As far as the prime rib goes. I will let those people do their own reviews. I had checked on line and had seen a menu that listed 1/2 side of baby back ribs and bar-b-q chicken and I was going to order that but when we got there they had a different menu (new as they increased their prices) and it did not have the rib-chicken combo and the waitress said that I could order each separately but that would have been like ordering 2 dinners so I opted for the Billy Burger. I have owned and operated a restaurant myself and I am very aware that the reputation of an establishment can be destroyed by the staff, cook, waiters, bartenders etc. This being said it could be completely different if we went down there again in the future. But I will not drive that far (30 minutes) and be disappointed again for those prices. I understand that there are new owners from the ones that started the restaurant.
