I had the worst meal at this restaurant. I have been coming here for years and culminate my Wells vacation for this restaurant. It disappointed this past Thursday. My baked shrimp came burnt and our waitress brought only this one meall for our party of three! Clearly misunderstood we needed three meals not one. We had to wait another 10 minutes and so we divided our 6 shrimp. We all agreed the shrimp were dried. The next two shrimp dinners were ok. i mentioned my disappointment and the waitress could provide a half discount. Because we ate the shrimp from the first burnt dinner. If we waited my dinner would be cold and the other two people wanted to eat! My grandson had the Haddock bites and couldn't eat them due to over abundance of pepper. It could be 4 stars, but I just can't. The Clam Chowder had great flavor and plenty of soft chewy clams. But the chowder itself was thin and watery. The potatoes were a bit harder than I prefer, and my thought is that if the potatoes were cooked in the chowder a bit longer until they are nice and soft, the starch would thicken the whole thing up a bit. The Lobster Mac & Cheese again tasted great. Plenty of lobster, great flavor. But the whole thing was cooked too long, to where the cheese was broken and made the whole dish oily. First time at Billy's. Came here with my girlfriend on a weekend. There was a small wait but, nothing to complain about and the food more than made up for it. We started with a bucket of steamed muscles. They were cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor! I then had the clam chowder and it was by far the best clam chowder I've ever eaten. First up, they have a private parking lot. That is huge in this area! They do not outside seating but some tables have a nice view. They will not seat your party until everyone arrives. We had a party of five and did not have a long wait. We went here on night one and returned on night three. The baked haddock is amazing! I can't say enough about how good that dish is. (I had the small plate the first time and the large the second time.) I also had the lobster stew and it was also delish. The stew was loaded with lobster and was in a light butter cream soup. The others at the table ordered clam chowder (rated 3 as good but not memorable - worth noting he ordered it twice). One person in our group wasn't paying attention and ordered from the fried section of the menu. She received fried scallops and fried haddock which she said was very good but would have been more enjoyable baked. The land lubber ordered filet and shirmp the first time and a NY strip the second time. He said they were "ok." We just pulled in, really looking forward to eating here. We drove all the way from Kentucky on a New England road trip. We were headed out of Maine and went off the highway just to stop to fill our bellies with seafood and lobster! This was partly a fishing vacation so we are hauling our bass boat with us.
