What makes this shop a 5 star business? Easy. They specialize in BMWs, which is a good thing if you are looking for quality. The mechanics are competent guys who love BMWs and love what they do. In my experience, those are the two key components needed to be successful at virtually anything. They don't overcharge you like other shops. And they can be amazingly fast! One Friday morning I brought my car in with an engine error, broken windshield washer, broken brake sensors and not working headlights and tail lights. They figured out what was wrong with the engine and the washer same morning and called me back with the estimates and fixed everything by the noon. That's called class. I own a 2009 528xi. I had it from almost new. About 4 years ago I found Bimmer Werkshop. It has made me love my car so much more. It is not a "bargain" place...It's a place were high end mechanics, who work only on BMW's put as much care into your vehicle as you would. After you meet the mechanics, Nelson and Ryan...you will want them to work on your car. Among other things, they repaired well known BMW gasket leaks...never had an issue with recurrence. Went in yesterday for an oil change (I was fortunate to go when they had a sale going). The guys Nelson and Ryan were both so friendly and helpful. Answered all the questions I had with good knowledge and sincerity, making sure to explain everything with great care. Overall a pleasant experience -- I went in with the hopes of finding a go-to mechanic for my F30 (beyond my oil change needs) and I can happily say I found one! Brought in my Z4 in February for an oil change, the service was friendly and the mechanics offered some insight about some issues the car was having. They sent me a quote via Email that same day, and I recently brought the car in for repairs. The service again didn't disappoint, and they offered me a discount on the total bill as well! TLDR - They did not know what was going on with my BMW, gave me the wrong diagnosis, and when I came back to them with the right diagnosis, their quote was very expensive. My BMW "Service Engine Soon" light was on. The code was a bit vague. I took it to one mechanic who very straightforwardly told me they didn't know what was wrong and that I should take it to the dealership. I decided to take it to Bimmer Werkshop since they're BMW-only and chances were they had seen something similar. The guy absolutely had no idea what was going on but instead of telling me that, he told me it was the cable that connects to the battery and that it costs between $200-$300 to replace it. I was not comfortable with the diagnosis so I took it to the dealer and it was indeed something COMPLETELY different. I went back with the diagnosis from the dealership and to give them a second chance only for them to ask me for the report from the dealership and quote me slightly less than the dealership which was still very expensive. Went to another mechanic that did the job for way less. Be careful when it comes to getting a diagnosis from them and make sure to get a quote from somewhere else before going with them. read more

I found this place after doing some research online for independent BMW mechanics as I no longer wanted to drive to the dealership (both because of pricing and distance to my home). After seeing extremely positive reviews for Bimmer Werkshop, and also seeing it is much closer to me than the dealership, I decided to drop in for an oil change, brake fluid flush, and rear brake pad replacement. Ryan was very professional from the moment a drove into the shop to the moment I drove out. He was upfront about pricing, provided recommendations after further checking the car out, and had the car ready in a day's time. Good pricing, convenience, and transparency are the markings of a great professional auto shop, and this place had all three. Assuming their prices remain as they are, I've found my go-to for BMW service. Yes, I've had to suffer the pain of going to the dealer (in a small metro area with no other specialty shop) so I feel like I have a decent idea of some prices. A few other indie shops in the area quoted something I'd expect from the dealer and these guys were way lower. Second, this isn't a huge chop shop looking to crank out cars. This is a relatively small shop with guys who know their stuff and take care with your ride. Brought my 328i in for spark plugs and a front blinker that was out... oh and my pesky front license plate wouldn't stay on. The plugs were pretty straight forward but I enjoyed their work on the blinker. Essentially the housing is near burned out though they did put in a new bulb which didn't remedy the problem. While they said I would need to order this ~$500 part to fix the problem, they were able to provide a short term fix, messing with the bulb contacts. It ended up working and my blinker turned on. They were very up front that it was a short-term fix and I would eventually need to order the part but they put in the extra effort free of charge which I thought was outstanding. Plus there was no pressure regarding coming back or any type of follow-up. Regarding my license plate, again, I appreciated their work. Free of charge, they were willing to put in some plastic pegs to hold my license plate in place, noting that I'd have to order the required (yet missing) frame for the license plate at some point. Again, while I know these aren't long term fixes, I felt most places would do something similar and charge you (I'm thinking of something like the dealer's special $150/hr labor rate) or just have you come back when they can do something worth charging you for. Overall, an outstanding car repair experience which seemed like it would be elusive in Chicago. I appreciated their attention and transparency regarding the repairs. I thought their short-term remedies were a way to really show their are willing to go that extra mile for their customers and, at least in my mind, they've positioned themselves to get my business going forward. Also, the place is right off the Blue Line. Enjoyed being able to CTA back down to Logan Square and have some coffee. Definitely coming back. read more

I recently had a problem with my 2011 535i. I had the car towed in. After running every test he could think of, the problem seemed to resolve itself. Long story short, he could have easily charged me for a fix he didn't perform, which would probably have happened if I went to a dealer. But Ryan is not built like that. He was honest and forthright and only charged me for my annual oil change. I will never darken the door of a BMW service department again. Ryan is my guy! read more

This car shop rocks. Great work, awesome dudes, and most important of all, honest and fair prices. I've been here twice: first when my driver side rear view mirror was knocked off and I needed to replace it, and second to have my front license plate mounted (damn you Chicago car rules!). Each time, I have left 100% satisfied with everything. They were able to get me in quickly (I really appreciated that), and did both installations in a very quick time frame. The quality of the work is on point - you can't even tell my car has had any work on it. Aside from the work, though (which, again, is phenomenal), these guys are awesome people in general. I've taken my 2017 X5 three times here so far, and they seem very knowledgeable and have always taken good care of my BMW. Last week I had 60k service that includes changing brake and transmission fluid, one low beam light bulb (xenon), engine oil and rear brake pads, which came out to be just under $1,200 including tax. This is not even a third of what I would have paid at a BMW dealership! I highly recommend this place, especially to those who own BMW. read more

Make sure you are taking good care of your baby by having it serviced by people that also love these cars. I have a 2003 325 and Nelson does an amazing job of making sure everything is running smoothly. He takes the time to explain things to you (and I am a woman), and also has the dedication to check over and fix little things, like my moonroof that was not happy. Great place! Difficult to find (no signs on the main street), but well worth finding. The guys have a laid back, helpful attitude and do top quality work. I didn't feel pressured or hassled and they clearly knew their stuff. And because they specialize in BMW's, I didn't get any of the confused looks I've gotten in the past when I had questions about my car. I want to start off by saying I'm surprised that this place got any negative reviews at all, Bimmer Werkshop is a top quality establishment. I recently brought my 05 530i in to have a few issues checked out. Prior to coming in I had absolutely no issues talking to their office man Jacob over the phone, and everything I was quoted worked out almost exactly. I was very confident that I was going to the right place if even the office guy was knowledgeable about BMWs. The shop was easy to find on Montrose, and I was quickly greeted and dealt with in a very professional manner. While I was there, I spoke with both Ryan and Nelson from the shop and they were able to easily pinpoint my problems. These guys talked to me in a way that made me understand what I needed, and they did it without patronizing me and my lack of car knowledge. We own two BMW's and while they are fun cars to drive and very nice rides, they do like their maintenance and repair time. I don't live far from the Bimmer Werkshop and I recently took my 99 528i in for an evaluation and repair. They answered my questions and had my car back to me, at a reasonable price, the next day. These guys seem to know what they are doing, and from the number of cars they had in their shop and the reviews here on Yelp, I'd say give them a try. I had an oil change at my first visit, but they were extremely helpful with all kinds of technical questions I had in my somewhat high mileage (93k) 3 series coupe E92. The oil they use is also BMW LL04 approved (Total Quartz INEO MC3 as of this writing) and they were very upfront about exactly what they used. Talking to the mechanic I could tell that they really knew BMWs in and out so I will be back for sure. The waiting room isn't one of those fancy ones with free beverages and wood floors but I'm paying for quality work, not for a day at the spa. They do have netflix which will keep you adequately entertained should you need to wait for some quick work --- So I did go back! I also had a water pump+thermostat replacement done by them, their rate was the best I could find, they allowed my own parts to be installed. I couldn't be happier with their service again. Oh, did I mention their prices are also very reasonable and Jake was great at dealing with my numerous questions over the phone. read more

This place is a good alternative compared to any other auto shop advertising to work on German cars especially BMW. The mechanics there know their stuff, they may hit or miss on initial diagnosis with more intricately complex issues but in the end they seem to be good at narrowing it down to the root cause. I want to give them 4-5 stars just because of their customer service but I did on some occasions come away a little disappointed after having my car serviced there, from having no oil to do a oil change and coming back another time to, just recently, picking up my car in worse condition then when it arrived. Overall, I would recommend to try them out if you want fair prices and mechanics that are knowledgeable. read more

This is the best BMW auto shop to ever have existed. I work extremely busy hours so I never have a chance to bring my car in anywhere during normal business hours, but they let me drop my car off and slide my keys in an envelope under their door at night, took an Uber home, and emailed them. I take the train to work so my car is rarely used. While I was at work I got an email the following morning from them regarding the status and on what needs to be done. They sent me an estimate and photos of the damages. I authorized it via email, and called them to pay by phone. They fixed my car within days, I picked my car up after hours, and confirmed to them via email I picked up my car. This is so convenient for the person who works Monday through Friday, as most people do. They understand good business. I got an auto appraisal done by Carmax after I got my car back from this shop, and Carmax said my car had been maintained very well and runs perfectly. This let me receive a higher value than what the dealer offered me for my BMW. I highly recommend to never enter a dealer again except for oil changes (For purposes of having it reported to CarFax.com reports when you want a higher sale value). Finally found a BMW service shop that I do not have to second guess (like the dealers:)) Have a 2009 BMW 528. First experience last year was to repair oil leaks...excellent experience. Last week my window regulator broke. Came in for estimate, they took the time to take off the interior door panel to get the window shut so that I can drive it safely till the part arrives. A few days later, quickly repaired and totally cleaned up...including the glue from the tape...seems minor, but absolutely is not. I feel that they treat my car as I would. Very honest! My hubby brought my 750 LI in because the front wheel was making a rattling noise after I drove over a treacherous Chicago pot hole. Another shop wanted to charge $89 just to do a diagnostic check. I usually go to BMW of Schereville because their warranty service is great - however they charge (if I recall correctly) $150 for diagnostic since normal wear & tear on tires or anything related to it is not covered by my warranty. The owner at Bimmer Werkshop checked the car out and said it's just a bent rim, no work to be done - just replace it. WHAT? Really? That simple? No charge for this either? We ordered a new rim the next day (found an OEM online for a great price), had it replaced, and now the car drives like new. My hubby was really impressed. If needed (hopefully not, though) we'll be back for our future service needs. read more

What an outstanding shop. Yana and everybody were terrific. I came across them on yelp and when I needed to get a mirror installed they were kind enough to agree to not charge me a full hour like most places. All BMW dealerships wanted A full hour of labor which is $175 an hour for something that takes 10 minutes. These guys were only going to charge me a quarter of an hour which I thought was more than fair so you can imagine my surprise when they put it in 5 minutes and did not charge me at all!!! Wow !!!! This does not happen at other places. They were all very nice and professional - the shop is clean and you can better believe if I need something mechanically done to my car even oil change I will be coming here from now on! So I am that BMW knucklehead who really takes care of his M3 convertible. I baby this car and keep it away from snow and rain. -See where this is going? So I am always cautious about getting any work done. I went to these guys for the first time and they did a great job. You can tell they really enjoy what they do and are hard workers. They live and breath BMW and did a full review of my car. They did not pad the work order like the dealers and only did the work they recommended. Very honest and price was half of dealers. I got the oil changed, coolant flushed and replaced the battery. They also swapped out some silver bulbs and cracked foglight lens. So not just mechanical repairs. I was told they do all BMW repairs except for bodywork. So I am going back to swap out some interior trim to carbon fiber later this month. This place is low on frills as it really is a working garage but they pass on their low overhead to the customers. This place is right off the Edens at the Kennedy split so you can batman on and off to get to them. They took me in short notice and my car was done when promised and at the quoted price. Great guys and soild work but don't expect a fancy place with free food and a car wash. read more

After checking under the hood one day, I noticed oil residue in my coolant reservoir ( not good !). It seems this can be a common issue with these cars where the seal in the oil filter housing cracks and the entire system gets contaminated. As it was a major repair I was quoted over $1200 initially. Not only did they flush out the coolant system several times, install a new reservoir tank but they also found some wires touching the engine that they insulated-would have been a major expense if not detected. Throughout the entire process they kept me updated with e-mails and photos of the work in progress. What was most impressive , when I went to pick up the car they informed me that the actual time spent on labor was over estimated so they reduced the overall bill to under $1000. I know a decent amount about cars and enough to know that I got top quality work at a reasonable price. Although I live on the opposite side of the city, I intend on taking my car here every time from now as the customer service is friendly and overall a trustworthy and highly satisfying experience dealing with Bimmer Werkshop read more

I had a good experience with BW while trying to restore my salvaged and badly scratched (vandalized) 2008 750LI. It didn't make financial sense to repair the car and they were honest about it. This place delivers the goods. OUTSTANDING!!! Been going here for around a year. We created a Yelp account because of this place, but just now getting around to reviewing it. We've had our car in several times now (got the car used), and in every case, whatever was wrong was fixed in one visit. We had a brake problem on one occasion in which brake lights were not illuminating. Not a safe thing. They took our car in immediately without an appointment--depsite their schedule being filled--and fixed the car before the day was done. Current work was an oil change, but during their routine examination of the car, they found a suspension-related problem and advised me on how to proceed (it involved frame welding, which the shop does not do). How good have we observed this shop to be? Well, if we lived in Alaska, we'd push our car ourselves to Bimmer Werkshop to have our repairs done. Sure, that's an exaggeration, but not much of one! We'll put it another way: if having more than one spouse were legal, we'd marry Bimmer Werkshop. The knowledge, skill, and abilties of the folks at Bimmer Werkshop are first-rate. Crooks!!!! They told me that my Engine belt had to be replaced immediately and that it could break anytime while driving and gave me a $2000 quote. I got it checked by two other workshops. Both said, nothing was wrong with my belt. Never going back. Beware of these scammers!!!! read more

Brought in my GTS3 BMW E36 racecar for an issue with the ABS system on a whim. The guys here accepted the highly modified car without question, something other shops may not be comfortable with. They checked the ABS electronics with a dealer level scan-tool software with no problems in connectivity, and were very well versed in the software. After identifying the potential issue (failed self-check due to no traction control system) and clearing the code - I was on my way. Overall very pleased with these guys and I'd trust them even with the most complex repairs, highly recommended! Got the car all sorted thanks to their help. read more
