Our party of four was impressed from start to finish. The staff was outstanding--knowledgeable, prompt, and attentive without ever hovering. It felt like they truly cared about making sure we had a great experience. The food was excellent across the board. My New York strip was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The rest of our group loved their dishes just as much--the mussels, shepherd's pie, and braised short ribs all got rave reviews. It's not often that four totally different entrées are all home runs, but LJs pulled it off. Great service, great atmosphere, great food. We will definitely make LJs a regular stop whenever we're in Denver. Highly recommend!

I do eat here fairly often, and I can't quite tell you why it is not a 5*, but it's not quite there for me.

So after all of that, I didn't even have my own food. I ended up giving the meal to a homeless person and drove to Taco Bell instead. If your restaurant doesn't provide basic utensils or napkins with a takeout order, why are you even offering takeout? Even fast food restaurants understand that people ordering food to go might actually need a fork to eat it. This wasn't just about a missing fork. It was the complete lack of attention to detail, basic customer service, and then being handed the wrong order on top of it. For over $50, this was an unbelievably bad takeout experience. Save yourself the frustration and order somewhere else.

I really wanted to like this restaurant because it's not far from where I live and in a great area. As an overview the reviews are 4 out of 5 stars for Bird. This is one of the reasons I decided to try this place and I was in the mood for something different. I decided to have a nice weekend brunch day to myself and sat at the bar. After my experience here I looked more closely at the reviews and can understand why there are such poor ratings in service. All of the following happened within 1.5 hours as I was a solo patron at the bar: -Received coffee. Server had to bring the entire carton of creamer over because they ran out of carafes for the creamer. So I poured my cream and she took the carton back. -No spoon was given to me. I had to ask for the spoon to stir my coffee. -Fifthteen minutes later I actually got a napkin and the rest of my silverware. -A server stood at the bar and doodled on another server's arm for about 5 minutes. This took place as soon as you walk in the restaurant near the host stand and within plain sight of all patrons at the bar. -Another employee who seemed to be a little "under the weather" blew her nose at the bar and then a few minutes later sat at the bar to eat her meal. She ate a few seats down from me. I do not feel that it is appropriate for an employee to be eating with patrons at the bar but also the fact that she was ill definitely was troublesome. -I saw two guests from two separate parties walking around with their checks looking for their servers to pay. -Employees on their phone behind the bar. -Two cooks taking shots at the bar that were poured by the bartender. The cooks were still in their uniforms and they were downing the shots as a woman and her daughter were walking in the restaurant to eat. I understand that some restaurants may allow for their employees to drink at the end of their shift or off the clock but to do it within plain sight of customers and during work hours is uncalled for. -One server was wearing a black lace tankini underneath a white flowy top in which you could see through one arm hole and out the other. I don't see this as proper attire when handing customer's food. There is obviously not a strict uniform policy here. -One server asked another server if she was taking care of table 27 and it was obvious that the one server blatantly forgot about the table as I noticed they were sitting there for 15-20 minutes and had not even ordered. -A young woman that sat across from me as I was finishing my meal started to doodle in her notebook as she was waiting for the server to come over and take her order. It was about 10 minutes after the girl had looked at the menu that the server finally came over and take her order. -To top it off as I walked out of the door there were 4 employees at the bar (possibly even a manager/owner in a blue collared shirt) and not one said goodbye and thanked me for dining with them. Now I was only dining for about 1.5 hours as all of this happened. Obviously it is understandable that some things might be missed when dining at a restaurant but these are a lot of mishaps to happen in a short period of time. I also was dining at 2 pm on a Sunday when the rush had ended and the Pearl Street Market was over. I will say that the sage grapefruit mimosa and the corn meal pancakes were quite tasty but not enough to make up for the service. The sad part is that most of the incidents didn't even happen to me. Other patrons were not receiving top service either. Now I did leave a 20% tip because as a current server I can't not tip below 20%. For fellow servers we know this as tipping karma. When looking at past reply reviews from Katie W with Bird she has acknowledged the poor service that Yelpers have complained about and has agreed that the service needs improvement. But there have been reviews for over a year on Yelp about the poor service and it seems that nothing has changed. It's unfortunate that the service has not improved as the food was good. I believe that there is too much competition in Denver for restaurants and that if a restaurant is not on top of both service and quality of food/drinks that they will not survive in Denver. Therefore I would rather spend my money at a place that is going to provide proper service and excellent food. read more

I've been familiar with S. Pearl Street for many years. I've worked, lived, and here for most of my adult life. It is great to see the transformation of Black Pearl / Gaia into Yardbird. The food was great, though it did take a little bit of time to get to our table (worth the wait). Service was very friendly, but we could have used a little faster drink service. I will be going back often, and bringing more neighborhood families. read more

Man, I love this place! Great breakfast place, where the ambiance is nice, location is good, food was great; I had the, stuffed poblano pepper, while my friend had the fried chicken benny. I have been here a couple of times now, once for the chicken and waffles and this time I had the half chicken dinner which was pretty good but Nashville hot should have some some spice....the batter was good and the chicken had good flavor.
