Vanilla Bean Latte with Half and Half

This UCSD location near the Epstein Family Amphitheater this is convenient for students, staff, and visitors. It's like an open big concept/kiosk with ample seating nearby with umbrellas that offer shade on warmer days. I love the Sandpiper and Left Coast and all of their lattes are on point with yummy espresso! They also have assorted pastries perfect for pairing. They have friendly service and I highly recommend this Bird Rock when in the area.

I love that this location offers soy milk! Their Honey B Latte has quickly become my new obsession. Despite the sweet-sounding name, it's actually not too sweet, which is exactly what I prefer. The hint of cinnamon is a perfect touch--it's like a hug in a cup! Plus, the baristas are always so friendly. Definitely give it a try--you can thank me later!

    Iced Matcha latte 16oz ($6)

A cute little location, I tried the iced matcha latte ($6ish for 16oz) and it was pretty good. I like how oat milk isn't an extra charge. The matcha was a nice green color but the taste was a little off for me. Staff are friendly and working fast. Their pastries look good too

Wow there's a bird rock on campus now?! Campus has gotten so nice the last few years. Their coffee is good but not sure if it's $7 good. I didn't make any modifications to my iced Honey B latte and it was $6.99. I used to go to their Torrey Pines location but don't remember it being $7. Maybe it's a good thing this wasn't here when I was a student because I'd spend so much. Honey B latte - prefect balance of cinnamon and honey. I don't normally need to mix the honey but this time it was a layer at the bottom so had to get a wooden mixer to stir it up.

Probably the worst cup of coffee I've ever had at Birdrock.

Let me start up by saying I am a huge bird rock coffee roasters fan. However, this location on campus is run so poorly that it gives bird rock a really bad name. Cleanliness: The open concept provides a full view of the entire bar and kitchen, and oh my gosh, the disarray of items, monster cans, and all kinds of gross stuffing laying around makes you feel like it's incredibly dirty. It looks like a teenagers dorm room, not a coffee shop. I've been to every Birdrock location and none of them look like this. It's pretty unprofessional. Staff: agree with some of the other comments, the staff here is really not welcoming or engaging. I assume their student workers, and is clear. They have zero commitment to going the extra inch to provide you good service. Again, the complete opposite feel experience compared to the other locations. Product: I typically always get a cold brew when I go to any Birdrock location. And of course, this UCSD campus had an issue with the cold brew taps that day so no cold brew. I settled with an Americano, which had zero ice by the time I got it...just watered down coffee water. Again really damaging to the bird rock brand, which strives for quality at its core. This is not quality product. I write this post to hopefully bring awareness to the management team who supports Birdrock. There needs to be a lot more attention on how this location is run. Feels like it's spiraling.

Delicious cortado with some latte art!

Great people, delicious coffee. As a relatively new UCSD student and a longtime craft coffee enthusiast, it's fantastic to see a top rated coffee company here on campus. The coffee and pastries don't disappoint either -- I usually stick to classic espresso drinks, but I'd highly recommend their seasonal specials. Aaron runs a tight ship, and pours some fantastic latte art to match. The shop itself is in a great location, with perfect seating right next to it. I've had nothing but good experiences at Bird Rock UCSD. Give it a try!

The see-through windows, the bar seating along the windows that open up, and the one-way traffic across the cafe...all screams cozy and articulate. I like that they post the menus outside too, in case of long lines, so that you don't flip and freak out when you get to the front and don't know what to order. What I've tried off their menu so far, were Americanos, Lattes, hot and cold. Cold drinks are my default though, you can never go wrong with iced coffee. Their white chocolate is popular, they run out quick, but regular choco does well in a pinch. I absolutely love the part where they give the cup to you at the end of the bar, for adjustments and adding in more milk/sugar. And also to see latte art before closing your cup. I don't know what it is, but that part in aspect allows you to take some time to appreciate coffee in general and then go back to the real world. It's just the little things that matter. Also, the employees are just always super uber nice here. They don't judge you for ordering two cups of coffee in one go, they actually commend the action!

This would have been an average San Diego coffee shop experience for me, except for the fact that I absolutely LOVED the cherry bomb! It's a cherry mocha and essentially a perfect drink for me. Back in 2019, Starbucks had a seasonal cherry mocha for Valentine's Day that I was obsessed with. Apparently I was the only one, because they haven't brought it back since. Cherry mochas are hard to come by, and I haven't really encountered another one. This one was delicious! The espresso was bold, the milk perfectly creamy, and the overall taste not too sweet (unlike Starbucks'). Wow!! I can already tell this will be a drink I daydream about. Unfortunately it was $7.50, which will prevent me from indulging very regularly. The rest of the menu is pricey too, with avocado toasts nearly reaching $20. (I may be a millennial, but I can certainly understand the negative stereotype when I see coffee shop prices like these.) Besides pricing, the other downside of this place is the limited seating. There were only 4 small outdoor tables, so unless you're with just one other person and you arrive before 10am, I'd suggest grabbing your coffee to go and taking a walk. My friend and I sat down, since there were open tables when we arrived. She enjoyed her iced honey cinnamon latte. If you love a cherry mocha or are looking for coffee in the design district, definitely come through!
