I was a Penn Station food skeptic so I'm glad the blizzard forced me to rethink my snobbery. The fried chicken is vaguely within the realm of KFC original (no, I never went to CIA or even read a Times cooking article). I always like skin but this one has a good interior flavor. Maybe the sides could be better. The beans are good, skip the coleslaw. But Pollo Campero gains points for its beverages. It's not every day that I get to enjoy fast food horchata. The service was fast and friendly.

While waiting for a train at Penn Station, I was drawn to the aroma of Fried Chicken in the air, which led me to Pollo Campero. Ambience - it was spacious, bright, postmodern and clean. There is a lady who comes and sprays down the tables minutes after diners leave. Food - I ordered: Spicy chicken Sandwich - it was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside with some spicy sauce, however, the chicken itself needed more seasoning. 3/5 Grilled wings - exact opposite from the spicy chicken sandwich. The wings were a little overseasoned with too much spices sprinkled onto the wings. 3/5 TL/DR: Pollo Campero brings some Hispanic variety to the crowded fried chicken market. It isn't the best, but isn't the worst either. The grilled chicken offers a "healthier" alternative to fried chicken.

I got the chicken sandwich (it was kind of dry, there was some sauce but it needed more). Fries were decent. Coleslaw was okay. I was excited to try this place but maybe I should have just gotten fried chicken? Overall it is ok...but it is decently priced. You just order at the kisoks

Manhattan, NY (Penn Station) - Pollo Campero finally opened today and was abuzz in the morning with grand opening fanfare. The first 100 customers receive some kind of giveaway, but I have a strict "no eating fried chicken before 10am" rule so didn't enter the fray, but even so made away with some free swag (a t-shirt that's way too large for me even though orange is my color, a scrunchie which I will use, and a bright insulated bag which I will definitely use). After the anticipation of walking by the "opening soon" sign for so many months on my way to the office, I HAD to check out what the hype was about. And so did everybody else, judging by how packed they were all day. I love that they have a bank of digital kiosks for self-ordering in addition to the old fashioned counter, which moved things along quickly and it didn't take long for my order to be ready. Although I'm personally not too crazy about the herbal seasoning blend and find it a bit prosaic, I know some love the taste, and the chicken is indeed well-brined, flavorful, and tender. And should you find yourself in Penn Station craving chicken, Pollo Campero now adds to the growing lineup of options on the LIRR/lower level to get that fix alongside Raising Cane's, Chick-fil-A, and Shake Shack if you count their chicken sandwich. But still, I haven't found a contender to unseat my beloved Jollibee! It's good chicken however, so give it a go!

This was my first time trying Pollo Campero. The chicken sandwich is my new favorite fast food chicken sandwich. Sorry, Popeyes! Perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Also tried the plantains and the flan. Those were meh. I'd try a different side next time.

This location was very well kept and clean. The service was great and they asked us how the food was and tbh it was a great lunch meal! The chicken is crunchy and has a great taste and is fulfilling that my boyfriend and I ordered another meal afterwards to share. The yuca fries are good with the sauce they provide and the maduros are perfect sweetness. Also they have horchata drinks that are SO GOOD! Not too sweet too which I loved.

Large space, plenty of seatings. Quick service too. I got the 2 piece meal with thigh & leg & a side + a drink

This restaurant is located inside Penn station with a lot of seating and bright colors. The staff was really friendly and the chicken is really flavorful. I got the fried option with a side of sweet plantains. The plantains were also very tasty and not overcooked. Overall good experience.

The quality of the food was good! The service was great! They brought our food to the table, brought us sauces, and cleaned after we finished.

I counted 8 workers. There is only one person taking orders. Needless to say there some wait time. Not the best use of manpower/woman power as I see workers just starting around in the kitchen. My suggestion would be to have at least two registers open, especially during meal times. The place looks nice. I would love to give a higher rating if they make the improvement.

I thought the grilled chicken had some good, bold flavors! Lots if spices on the skin. I can taste lime and chili but it wasn't hot at all. Chicken pieces if ordering four should contain a piece of breast meat and not two scant drum sticks. The yucca gets gummy if not eaten immediately . If you are a commuter taking the food on the go, save it! You can get it back to its delicious, crispy state by heating it on low in a frying pan. Nice and slow until you get some color too! The sauce tastes like mayo and smoky chipotle. The maduros were delish but gimmee some more. Nestled in a cup were several pieces, not enough to form a whole plantain! Gimmee more! Hungry! It helps to be more generous. The place is new and high tech with lots of ordering kiosks and an automated pickup area for online orders. I prefer the old-school method of placing an order with a live person. The food was tasty but not enough so I had to deduct a star!

The small order of veg dumplings was a very reasonable price and portion. I thought they were well stuffed with veggies. I was a little disappointed with the dumpling wrapper- i prefer a lighter softer wrapper. But overall I still ate it all, and it was a quick nice snack. The pork soup dumplings arrived literally spilling pink/red liquid that looked like blood. My mother had never tried soup dumplings before, so we were hoping for a fun experience, but she immediately spit it out. I brought it back and showed the staff the uncooked pork and the blood/red liquid on the napkin. They simply re-steamed them and brought them back except now there was no soup left inside the dumplings at all. The chicken teriyaki was tough and chewy, almost like jerky, as if it had been overcooked on an extremely hot grill or deep fried too long. The spring rolls were mediocre at best, with vegetables inside that had a mushy, paste-like texture. Very disappointing. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the rice. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
