This is a charming restaurant in the Village of the Arts. Eclectic art filled the outdoor deck which has a variety of physically distanced seating options. The staff are taking appropriate Covid 19 precautions, wearing masks, social distancing tables, providing hand sanitizer and cleaning tables. There is ample seating indoors as well with couches, high-tops and regular tables. The menu is extremely creative and unusual as no "plain tacos " are on it. All the ingredients are very fresh and flavorful and portions are quite adequate. The guacamole is delicious with whole gran tortilla chips. My dining companion enjoyed her chicken tinga taco and I enjoyed my roasted beet , goat cheese and apricot taco. My beef tamale in corn husk was delicious but I prefers little less cornmeal and more filling. The tacos are all served on soft tortillas. Plus it's in the arts neighborhood, so worth exploring. As we pulled into the neighborhood, we wondered what was up. A big brewery (Motorworks Brewing) is on the next block. The houses are 1930s-era, so older housing stock, many decorated colorfully. A map of the area shows one artist studio/gallery after the other, so it might be fun to walk around and see the art and artists. We found the vibe to be quirky, reminiscent of places we have lived (Berkeley CA, Takoma Park MD), which now seem a bit dated and slightly uncomfortable. Tie die. Macrame. Granola. You get the picture. There is an ice cream stand on the premises, but it being a coldish winter day was not active. Arriving around 1:30 PM on a Friday afternoon, we were encouraged to see a few tables occupied. The neighborhood and the place reminded us of hippie/alternative decor, funky, individual, quirky. The owner and his wife on duty, he in the kitchen, she serving. Menu was encouraging, with many choices of appetizers, tacos, and burritos. We got the guacamole appetizer, and two tacos each: mahi mahi, eggplant, beet/goat cheese, and avocado banh mi. So as you can tell, this is eclectic, good non-meat choices. Ingredients were fresh and tasty, tortillas were fresh. Guacamole had large chunks of unmashed avocado and was delicious. I enjoyed my meal. My wife not as much, she found the food good but not compelling. Beer choices were plentiful, although all in bottles and cans. I had a Hawaiian IPA and a local Tampa IPA (Jai Alai - shout out to Amazon Prime TV series Mozart in the Jungle!!). I would have welcomed some imaginative on tap choices, I have a feeling they just don't do the volume to merit a tap. Service was good and friendly. With as not-very-busy as they were, it might have been fun to have more interaction and to meet the chef. This place has potential. Need to play up the fun and art connection. A partnership with Motorworks is a natural, imagine running tacos over to the brewery, and having a live tap of Motorworks beer. If I were in Bradenton I can see returning. My wife's opinion was that we aren't in Bradenton and there are lots of competitors, so we aren't rushing back. read more

This place was amazing! Like all restaurants in the Arts district, it's small and street parking. The tacos are to die for!!!! We got fried green tomato, mahi, chorizo, shrimp, and 'The Pork...'. We also had an order of pig queso, and collards. Yes, too much food! The tomato, chorizo, and pork tacos where our favs. Queso was so different and full of flavor. Collards were a work of art! The absolute worst place I have ever been. Our group of four literally sat for over 1hr without any attention. We witnessed multiple people leave because of how bad things were. The manager was addressed by multiple customers and he was horrible to each person. Each person in our party was amazed at how disorganized and disgusting their staff was. Flavor profiles were really playful and delicious. Constructive Critique: Lobster nachos were one of the highlights from the visit. Great flavors but drowning in that tasty Queso sauce, which distracted a bit from the great elements in the dish. Could be interesting to drizzle the sauce over the tortilla chips with a gastro squeeze bottle or find a creative way to dress the appetizer. OMG! This place is awesome. Nestled in the Village of the Arts on a tiny side street in a quaint little old house. It has an outdoor patio and an indoor with an awesome vibe. But that's not all. You purest should not be daunted it was excellent. The homemade sangria was cool and refreshing. It's tri colored layers might seem funky. But it's just right - red wine is dry and not too sweet. The CA Roll has huge chunks of fresh blue crab with avocado, cubes to make a refreshing and delicious big taco. Want some creative tacos? Then you need to come here. The list of tacos is changeable with what looks interesting, but basically try one of everything. That is what I and a couple of friends did last week. The shrimp tacos are very good. Something about the grilled pineapple and perfectly cooked shrimp with cabbage on a tortilla was just the right thing that night. The pork tacos have a nice smokiness to them that goes perfectly. The short rib tacos were a bit sweet but served with some sriracha they turned into some interesting tastiness. Being a purist, I stuck with corn tortillas. But there is a flour option for those so inclined. (check out Harry Connolly's story on this issue). So yes, they are not traditional taco wagon tacos,and they are certainly not some pressed crispy shell monstrosity that you see on TV, they are something else. Something different and creative and yummy. 3 for $8 is pretty reasonable as well. And check out their Facebook page to see what tacos are up each week as they seem to change, which is great fun for those of us easily board. Now, if they just start delivering to Motorworks (2 doors away!) things could be pretty amazing. some initial opening hiccups were present when we went last week, I think they've only been open 3 or 4 weeks, but hopefully that will even out and this wacky little brightly colored taco stand will take off.
