I frequently go to the truck version of Birria, which is called Birria-Landia located in Jackson Heights. I found out this one brick and mortal version at Astor Place. Awesome idea! Its food offering are: cheap, delicious, and can be mixed and matched with each other. So great to have a halal Mexican please in the city. Extremely adorable. The food was delivered so quickly. I asked them to accommodate my dietary restrictions and they did not disappoint. Really delicious birria tacos with a small space for seating inside. I got two beef tacos, as well as the beef papas with guacamole. The fries were incredibly filling and came with a generous portion of beef (they do not skimp here!). Would come again to try their tacos al pastor style, but note that's a pretty steep surcharge for that. read more

We walked in at 8:30p on a Saturday and it was empty and I had concerns as the establishment looked basic and common. 10min later, more people started flooding in and we realized, oh this is not such an understated place. My friend who took me just had tacos here a few nights back and wanted to come back so I knew there had to be something. She wasn't wrong. I ordered 2 tacos and guac to be safe and a Top. I've passed this place many times over the years since living in LES, mainly because one of my favorite bakeries, Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery (now relocated to Grand St), was directly across the street from it. I was in the area and was craving some birria. Since my favorite birria spot in the neighborhood, Viva Birria, is temporarily closed, I noticed over the years that Birria LES always has a steady flow of customers. I decided to give this spot a try and I wasn't disappointed overall. It's a tiny spot with limited seating inside and a tabletop or two outside. I decided on the birria nachos and my order was ready at lightning speed. The birria was well seasoned and juicy. They give you a good amount of meat for the price ($10). However, the order was stuffed into a small square sized foam container but I wish it was placed into a rectangular sized one so the meat and nachos are spread out rather than a bunch of meat piled on top of nachos. I was able to go home and rectify this small issue though. I would definitely recommend this spot overall because the birria is just that good! There was a bit of a wait for my food, but the wait was less than 10 minutes and wasn't too unreasonable. On a Friday evening, there was a steady flow of customers but not a lot of seating indoors. There were also some tables outside for standing. The space was a bit tight as we stood in line to order food. My daughter took me to the pop up in Union Square Winter Market. Very busy and with good reason so we waited about 30 minutes but after the experience, I would wait 3 days to have the Texas toast Birria grilled cheese with consommé!!!! Oh my word 15/10! Absolutely incredible! And priced right. You know that moment of amazement in movies where they try something so great that their face freezes, eyes open wide, and pupils dialate? Well that's the moment my family and I had here. The staff is super nice and the portions are generous. I love that you can put birria meat on everything they offer. Birria fries, birria ramen, birria esquites, you name it, and they'll birria-fy it. We've had every item on the menu. YES! Every item lol. It was all incredibly delicious! Not a single qualm found. The perfect level of spice, and it's HALAL! Such a refreshing take in a city where people equate "halal" with Gyro carts. This is a MUST try place. And we can't wait to be back. Birria LES is my new favorite restaurant in NYC. They serve halal Birria tacos and other Mexican food. We got various types of food from here, including the consomme, which was perfection, and the elote corn, which was mindblowing. This isn't a place where you can sit down and eat, but the food is very well priced and I want to come here every time I'm in NYC. read more

How the tacos at Birria are juicy but not soggy may be one of life's great mysteries... I enjoy the beef tacos more than the chicken and the corn is great (although my one critique is that it was a bit watery). Getting the consome is a must and an essential part of the experience! I love birria tacos and Birria LES doesn't disappoint. I've gotten a lot of the items on the menu but for a first timer I'd recommend the tacos with a consome for dipping. The combination of the tacos and consome makes for a really juicy, delicious taco with a lot of flavor. I'd definitely recommend people to try the other items as well, namely the tostadas and the mulitas. Overall this is a really quick service spot - order your tacos and get them in 5-10 minutes, and there are some seating options if you want to dine in. read more

If you don't mind spending the money this is a great spot! It's so hard to find a halal birria spot but this is THE ONE. The food comes out quick and there is enough seating. The only con is that each taco is 4.50-5.50. The hot Cheeto corn, beef birria fries and beef birria tacos are good choices. However, I do not recommend the consomé or chicken tacos. read more

Staffs were friendly. Ordered via kiosk outside the food truck on the corner of the intersection Houston and Bowery Street (across from Whole Foods). The truck usually comes around 4PM. We ordered tacos which was $4 each. It was good but a bit on the spicy end. Order took around 10 mins after ordering from the kiosk; it is a good quick bite. Since it's a food truck there's no seating area, they do have a table in the corner which was occupied. read more

The service here can be a little slow (even if they're not busy) but the food is always fresh and delicious! This is a great fast casual option in the area. The Loaded Papas are a hefty portion for ~$10! I'm glad they let me do half beef birria and half chicken birria, but now that I've tried both - beef birria is the one to go with. The chicken birria lacked the flavor, juiciness, and seasonings that the beef birria had. The fries were crispy! I also liked the crema sauce that helped cut through the fat from the birria. Holy shhh. Literally just stumbled across this place after exiting Magic bar across the street. And WOW. Where has this place been all of my life. This is literally the best birria I have ever had in my life. Food: Tacos and the consomé were fantastic!! The pineapple salsa was perfectly spicy and sweet!! I will say for birria tacos, it was quite expensive but I guess that's what I get for craving tacos in NYC...for reference I got two tacos with cheese with consomé and my total came out to around $20!! Absurd, LA would never do my wallet dirty like that!! Anyway, it was still really good and it curbed my craving so 10/10!! Service: There is very very little seating inside so definitely when it's busy it best to take it to go but I enjoy eating tacos on the spot while they're still hot. This is my first time trying birria tacos, and I can say that they are absolutely delicious!!! I waited forever to finally try them, and they did not disappoint! The birria tacos from birriales were absolutely amazing!!! They were very flavorful and I was savoring each bite. I finished it so quickly. Also I thought it would be really spicy and that the red sauce would make it much spicier, but the taco wasn't spicy at all! The red sauce was actually just oil. I could definitely go for another birria taco right now. I also liked how these tacos were halal and that there is good amount of seating inside. Went here again (not by choice lol) and tried the nachos. They sprinkled some part-skim mozzarella cheese on there. I was really expecting proper nacho cheese and not an ant's portion of the wrong cheese in my nachos because it's called nachos and not chips with part-skim mozzarella. The chips were fried in old oil so everyone that ate it had a stomach ache afterwards. Would not recommend. I also got the Birria con Linguine which was not great because their Birria tastes weird (in a bad way), but also because they cant cook pasta either. I love going to the corn dog place next door, but once day I saw Birria next door and I had to try it. I haven't had Birria tacos since LA. The food is good - it's savory, good flavor. Staff is nice. I just wish there were more tables!!! It's so hard to eat birria tacos while sitting. Maybe they could also provide some wipes for hands afterwards... It's just messy. If you ever find yourself in the lower east side and looking for a late night snack after a night of dancing and drinking in dive bars, look no further. This was my first birria tacos experience and for someone who stays clear of red meat, I was thrilled to see that they had a chicken and shrimp birria option. There are tiny, probably about five small dainty bites/two big hungry bites per taco. But they pack a punch and are full of flavor. The place was packed and had a long line at about 1am on a late spring Saturday night and their indoor seating space is tight. They do however have like three standing tables outside on the sidewalk, which we were grateful for. The line moves fast and the orders took about 5 mins to reach us. The shrimp birria was my favorite, the beef birria and consome were a hit with my friends. I'll even go as far as to say, I don't think I can go back to eating regular tacos again. I always felt like my taco meals were always missing a little something and I think this might be it. Get your drink there and a slip with your food items on it. Take the slip to the next counter where they prepare it. They're masters at it so they're cranking out a taco probably every 15 to 20 seconds. There's a line of workers operating the grills to get the meat and tortillas ready for the prep guys. So efficient. No seats. You stand and eat which really keeps the turn over rate high. The inside is no frills. Standing room only to eat your tacos and exit. The food is so good. $6 a taco but it's NYC. Love everything about this place and I try to frequent it for a quick bite as often as I can.

They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

I reluctantly ordered fish tacos with mild guacamole but was given spicy guacamole. The fish tacos were a little cold. The service was rushed. I left without ordering another drink or more food. I was over it. This place isn't far from my employer so maybe I'll give it another chance on a random weekday.

Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
