Chicken Chipotle was tasty. The mole was not very flavorful. I don't spend much time around here, but it was a good one time thing.

So excited to find vegetarian tamales at Factory Tamal! I tried the rajas con queso and the salsa verde w/zucchini and the salsa verde was the clear winner. Factory Tamal has two locations - one in the East Village and one in the Lower East Side. I went to the one in the EV and it's a small space, but great for a quick (and affordable!) lunch! read more

Finally stopped by this cute little place for lunch! Nomz: Had the tinga torta and a salsa verde chicken tamale. The torta was very good, a little spicy even, well balanced ingredients and tasty beans. The chicken and sauce were substancial so I made sure to eat it quickly so it wouldn't make the bread too soft. The tamale masa was moist (usually one of the hardest things to get right) and had good flavor on its own. Personally I would have liked a little more sauce in the middle but overall still the best tamale I've had in the northeast. Service: Really nice lady took my order and offered recommendations - she did recommend the chipotle tamale as my first one to try. Ambiance: Small place, had a bar running on the walls for you to sit and eat. Very nice natural light and had pleasant music going. Nope or Dope: Dope, will definitely come back and try lots more!! Gotta show some mad love for my neighborhood tamal spot! I usually swing by on the weekends and grab me a breakfast sandwich, a tamale with green sauce and a Mexican coffee. Located in a cute spot, on a quiet part of east 4th st, very nondescript and I like it that way. This was the first stop during the Man and his Sandwich Tour. A very small neighborhood restaurant. It was great to learn about their history and be introduced to this place. It is very small there was counter seating . We the Black Forest Ham Panini. It had wonderful flavor! The ham was accompanied with mozzarella, caramelized onions and a sun-dried tomato dressing. The onions added a mild sweetness. The panini was fantastic and I would be interested in returning to try a tamale. read more

Don't get me wrong...the tamales are good & the service was very friendly. I just believe that a place called Factory Tamal should have a LOT more tamales from which to choose & a lot less everything else--especially food that is not tamale-adjacent...or even Mexican. The way the menu currently stands, this is a sandwich shop that also services some tamales. &, while I am vegetarian, it boggles my mind that a tamale shop doesn't have a single tamal w/ pork in it. read more

Recently got addicted to this little spot in EV! When I want a small snack - they have delicious Tamals and small Egg Sandwich When I want something more filling - they have paninis and sandwiches! Cute little spot in East Village to get authentic Mexican tamales and an assortment of sandwiches and tortas (some more Mexican than others). I would strongly recommend the chicken with salsa verde tamal and then egg sandwich with chorizo /longaniza. Not much space to eat inside so more of a pick up or delivery spot in my mind. read more

This place is terrific, and maybe some of the BEST tamales I have ever had. The breakfast special of two tamales and a hot cup of delicious coffee for $7.50 is incredible. Highly recommend the chicken mole tamale and the salsa verde chicken tamales, as well as their soups. I want this place to stay on the block always. Sending love to the owner and his staff. If I see tamales on the menu, I'll order them because they're one of my most favorite things to eat. Needless to say, I've had many tamales over my lifetime. I ordered a chicken verde, and a chipotle chicken tamale. These are literally the best tamales I've ever had in my life. At first I was kinda annoyed that they didn't have salsas or other spicy sauces to pour over the masa... then I came to the realization that good tamales don't need salsa. The masa here is moist and the meat plentiful in ratio. The "salsa" is also already inside. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

Ordered the mole chicken and salsa verde chicken. Both delicious. My husband and I are picky about tamales and weren't able to find a good place til we tried this place out. The seasoning was great and the chicken was tender. It's a tight space inside and outside but you can easily eat it on the go. The sign said it may take 15 min to prepare but our order came out right away. Will think of here when craving tamales. read more

Casually was walking down the street today and saw this place. It made me stop in my tracks and come back. I miss tamales during the winter time and the tamale lady at the bars back home, but I got this so now. The rajas con queso was the standout for me. I only got two, what self control! Will be back. Tucked in a sweet narrow storefront down a few stairs on the side street, this homey spot is great for grabbing lunch to go-- a particularly nice well-priced option in this neighborhood. The chicken torta is delicious, with black beans, generous amount of avocado and pickled onions, always thoughtfully made to order and wrapped in foil to stay warm. Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall exterior, this restaurant has amazing amazing tamales. Some of the best we have ever had, and we have had plenty. We especially loved the mole chicken and the salsa verde chicken. You need about 3 per person for a full meal. Definitely try it out! read more
