After spending the day thrift store shopping and ending up in the area I pulled out old faithful Yelp! Five minutes later we were pulling up to the restaurant. From outside the brightly lit white subway tile that lined the walls really made it stand out from the dimly lit businesses surrounding it. Walking in you begin to appreciate this modern take on a Taqueria. The floors were clean and the bright contrasting colors popped. At 7pm Sunday they were moderately busy and we walked up to the counter scanned the menu and I knew right away I wanted to try the Birria Pizza. There was no point in just having a few tacos I wanted leftovers LOL after we ordered we sat down. While we waited for our food there was a steady stream of door dashers coming and going. I didn't even know the toppings that came with it but the amazing pickled onions with two sauces as well as cilantro and a handful of fresh limes elevated this beautiful dish. You can select from many different proteins I just so happen to go with steak and will gladly get again. Inside is very clean and has nice music as well as an open floor plan, everyone seemed to want a bite from plant workers to families. Pastor was everything you would want but what really did it was the tortillas. You can tell they are freshly homemade. Beef Ramen... i could eat that everyday and all day. This place is absolutely amazing and the food is delicious. They have the best tacos I've tasted since I moved to Houston. I purchase the mini street tacos with melted cheese. The carne asada was seasoned and prepared perfectly, the tortillas tasted homemade which is a huge plus and the pickled onions they provide are out of this world! My go to place for the best birria I have ever had. I had the Birria Quesadilla XL and it was loaded with flavor and huge! The green sauce added just the right amount of heat. Very satisfying. I love good refried beans and they have the best in the area. You could tell they were freshly made. Kindness, great food, great service. I visited Birrieria el Compadre about a month ago. I arrived at the truck like 10 minutes, maybe even 5 minutes until they closed and as I was pulling up their lights cut off. I hopped out of my car and rushed up to the window apologizing for arriving so close to closing time. They were so kind and assured me my timing was just fine bc they were still open. They also advised that their lights had cut off on their own due to an electrical outage. I ordered their Birria ramen and 1 steak taco. The birria was slightly bland but it left enough room for me to fix the seasoning up perfectly and also to ensure it didn't have too much salt. The steak taco was very delicious. Meat nice and tender, perfectly seasoned. Yum. I'd gladly return to this food truck. Maybe my 5th stop here. The quesabirria tacos have always been on point. My daughter tried the birria mulitas. Not much difference between them and the tacos, just a different shaped shell. As always, they were excellent. I decided to try the birria grilled cheese. I believe the taco/mulitas corn flavor really contributes to the flavor of the birria, cheese, consommé, etc... so I didn't expect to love the grilled cheese as much. I was wrong, it was amazing. Plenty of birria and cheese. They may have grilled the bread in the consommé. It was fantastic. Always love the complimentary condiments. I'm a little late to the birria party, but I finally tried birria tacos for the first time today! I searched for places on Yelp and came across Birrieria El Compadre. With such good reviews, I decided to try it out. They are located in the Kroger parking lot right next to KFC. It looks like they've upgraded their food truck as this one is larger than the red one in old photos. There were a few cars parked in front of the truck, but they weren't very busy. I explained to the gentleman that it was my first time ordering birria tacos. He suggested I do the Quesotacos which is one of his best sellers. They come with four crispy corn tortillas, cheese, and beef. He asked if I wanted cilantro and onions on the tacos or on the side. I LOVE cilantro and onions so I told him to put it all over the tacos lol. The order of 4 tacos comes with the consommé (beef broth). He said I could order 2 or 3, but I would have to pay separately for the consommé. It's not birria without the consommé as far as I'm concerned, so I went ahead and did 4 tacos. The order came out to $12.99. They gave me a pager and let me know they would page me when the order was ready. It was so hot outside and I did not see any tables or chairs to sit at, so I was happy to be able to take the pager and wait in my car. As I was waiting, a few other cars drove up to place orders. It took a few minutes for my food, but the wait wasn't too long. When I went to pick up the order, the woman handed me the tacos and a separate cup for the consommé. The cup is about 4 or 6 oz which was a bit larger than I was expecting. It fit nicely in my cup holder and survived the car ride home lol. Since this is my first birria experience, I don't have anything to compare it to. I will say that Birrieria El Compadre has definitely set the bar. The consommé is very flavorful! It's seasoned well, but not overly salty. At first I was dipping my tacos in it, but eventually I just started pouring it on the tacos lol. The beef is very tender and flavorful. The diced onions and cilantro give it a nice flavor. The tacos came with sliced limes, marinated sliced purple onions, red sauce, and green sauce. The red sauce was way too spicy and I unfortunately couldn't eat it. The green sauce was more mild and was very flavorful. The melted cheese in the taco was so good! All of the flavors were delicious! The tacos are larger than they look. I ate two, took a break, then went back for the third one. I still have one more left that may or may not get eaten later this evening. I almost forgot to mention that they take cards now so no need to get cash! I'm actually not sure if they take cash still or only cards. They have birria grilled cheese and birria ramen, so I'm going to need to make that happen soon. read more

Tried El Compadre Tacos & Birria yesterday! This is pretty authentic Mexican flavors - reminded me of home cooking. The beans were VERY tasty with a spicy jalapeño kick and the rice was just as good. Birria Tacos were filled well with meat and cheese. I felt the dipping sauce lacked a bit of flavor but it was ok when I dipped the taco in salsa also! Overall the portions were great!
