This was my wife's first experience here and our best friends and it was her birthday. They get 5 stars all the way. We did sushi and rib eyes, curry soup and fancy deserts. Enjoyed the wine and the service was very good too. My husband had the burger which was excellent. Unfortunately I ordered the crab cakes which I have to say had practically no crab in them at all and were burnt on the bottom. Very disappointing. We have come to Bistro 29 5-6 times already and have not had a bad meal yet. Being from the Jersey Shore we did not expect the seafood entrees and sushi to be above par. We were wrong. My wife and I have tried almost every entree on the menu and have thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The ambiance is great and service has always been excellent. read more

If you want sushi with cold, hard and not fully cooked rice on your sushi and barely any filling inside but just not edible sushi rice, you can def come here. Not only that, they mess up my order. I questioned at pick up but the cashier insist it is correct. I returned to my car, read the menu in detail and confirmed I did receive the wrong item. After I return to ask them to fix, they just put the missing spicy sauce and baked krab on top along with the other two "non spicy" rolls, crowded in the same box. I asked if they can separate the rolls bc I don't want the rolls mixed up with the spicy sauce as other rolls were for my children who doesn't eat spicy. They refuse to do it and told me I should of let them know ahead of time and they only pack sushi roll in one box. This place serve under quality food with a premium price tag. Publix sushi taste better than this. I understand mistakes happens, as long business make right with the customer, it is acceptable. But the way how they handle situation was unacceptable. It clearly show they do not care for their customer or care to provide any service. Shame on me who got rip off today. For 70++ to go meal, I think I should have some expectation for decent quality. read more

I've tried this place twice. The service has been wonderful both times I've been there. The food is very mediocre. I had the pecan crusted trout. My husband and I tried lunch here for the first time the other day. I love the atmosphere and the staff was super friendly. It is a nice change from the regular restaurants in the area. I had the beef stroganoff and my husband had the grilled white fish sandwich, both were great. We definitely want to come back and try their brunch and dinner. Always eager to try somewhere new for brunch, we made a reservation for Bistro 29 today. They've done a beautiful job with the decor, the service was good and the ambiance pleasant. I ordered the baked french toast, which was very tasty. The tartness of the apples blended nicely with the sweetness of the caramel, custard and bourbon syrup for overall flavor that was a real treat. My husband loves his eggs benedict, and ordered it with a side of pimento cheese grits. He said the grits were barely warm, and the Hollandaise was average. I don't know what the secret to really good Hollandaise is, but that's the star of the show with eggs benedict and for $12, it should be stellar. I'm looking forward to trying the dinner menu, and encourage everyone to support the newest eatery in town. Bon appetite. read more

My husband and I were just passing through town and found Bistro 29. I wish we lived closer, because this would be a regular place for us! The stuffed dates were incredible and the swordfish was so flavorful and tender. We had the flourless chocolate cake to finish the meal, which was also amazing. Our server Tamara was fantastic. This is my first review on Yelp. We travel and go out to dinner a lot. I felt it necessary to start reviewing in hopes that our favorite restaurants will remain in business. I have a home in Murphy and this is my favorite restaurant in the area. Have been here several times already and have had a very good meal each time. The ambiance, service and food are all very good. Last night I had a sushi roll appetizer. Very fresh and well done but a little small on the roll. I had the rack of lamb for dinner. Lamb was cooked perfectly and everything about the meal was excellent. Portion was very good and had no room for dessert. Living in such an awesome culinary area between New York City and Philadelphia, I would say this is one of the closest to that area cuisine that I have enjoyed in the mountains. read more

Came in for sunday brunch with my wife and kids. Decor was nice, server was courteous and professional. We ordered the salmon eggs Benedict special, which was delicious. They definitely make a real hollandaise here, deliciously rich and well balanced flavor, not the fakey flavored mix that most restaurants use. The pimento cheese grits were excellent. My son had the ribeye steak and eggs, cooked perfectly medium rare, with the home fries, which were delicious. My wife enjoyed the apple caramel baked french toast, which was absolutely decadent. She also enjoyed the basil cucumber martini. My only minor gripe is the need for more Craft beers, which the owners addressed and said they are expanding thier offerings . I am giving "Bistro 29" 4 stars, not because of the food or atmosphere, but because of our waitress. The food was excellent! I will go back to eat here again. The waitress, however, disappeared a LOT and it took a very long time for her to come back to take our order and check on us. She clearly was new to the waitress thing because she was unsure about a lot of things, had to look up items and read from a list, but the biggest mistake she made was she never came back to our table to see if anyone needed a refill on their alcoholic beverages, which means a bigger tip was missed and more money in the business pocket was lost. A great find in Murphy, NC! Warm staff is attentive but not over bearing. The onion tartlet was a great starter, flavorful and melt in your mouth good. Coffee rubbed ribeye had a great little salsa on it that balanced out the flavor. Cooked to perfection, but my meat seemed to have a lot of fat on it. Fingerling potatoes were also good. Bread pudding was a little too sweet, but it didn't stop us from finishing it! Decent wine list. We will definitely come back. read more

I experienced Bistro 29 for lunch first time and loved it so much that I returned the next day for dinner. They do not have a huge menus, but that allows them to do what they do best; prepare a wonderful meal. The service was prompt, attentive, and friendly enough to make me feel quite comfortable. I had ordered the lobster max & cheese and when I took my first bite, sublime was the taste I experienced. The decor, the food, and the serving staff all combined to make both of my visits quite enjoyable. I know it that I've found a regular dining experience whenever I visit Murphy. read more

LOVEEEEEE!!! I can not say it enough! I love being able to get out with the husband for a date night in town.

I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't made the time to review this wonderful establishment before now. I've eaten at the Bistro 14 times since May when I first discovered it. It's become my go-to spot for consistently delicious food, great service, in an intimate, classy, but laid back atmosphere. My dinner tonight is an example of the wonderful fare these folks put out there night after night. I started with an appetizer of garlic fried chicken wontons served with a ginger-soy dipping sauce on a small bed of sliced onions, vegies, and portabella mushrooms. This was followed by a sizable bowl of caesar salad that was made from super fresh romaine with just the right measure of delectable dressing, cheeses and croutons. I followed this up with side orders of nigiri eel and melt in your mouth sashimi tuna. Although I've eaten their perfectly prepared coffee rubbed rib eye, sautéed shrimp & scallops cooked with grilled leeks, basil, tomatoes, with a white wine cream sauce over angel hair, and their fish special of the day which that night was an over-the-top stuffed fluke off the regular menu I usually make my meal out of a variety of sashimi and sushi. Western North Carolina didn't have a decent sushi restaurant west of Asheville until these guys arrived and although this probably sounds like a planted review it's not. I just love good food and want these folks to succeed. The service has been consistently prompt, friendly, and efficient. The ambiance is elegant without being ostentatious, and the prices are really pretty reasonable for a top quality dining experience. I can't say enough good things about this place. People call me Mr. Pat and I look like a cross between Hemmingway and Santa Claus, always in a Hawaiian shirt. If you see me sitting alone at a table or with a group of friends come over and say hi - it's that kind of a relaxed place where that's not out of place. read more

I applaud bistro 29 for trying to be upscale. They do a lot of things right, but when it comes right down to it, they need to improve the quality of the food. Three people, $200, a ribeye that seemed like it was bought from Ingles or Kroger, lamb chops that were charred to the point where all you could taste was char. Dessert that seemed like it may have been from the frozen food section, but decorated in house. So hey, Murphy needs an upscale place, Bistro 29 just needs to work a bit harder. My fourth visit to Bistro 29. I always try something new and have never been disappointed. Wait staff is just as good. Very happy when we get Danny (think that is his name) to wait on us. I love this place. Great staff that really want to please! I hope this place stays around for a long time to come. I really like the fact that when I order a martini, I GET A MARTINI ! I mean for those of us who pay $10 for a martini you want more than a couple of sips and they deliver on that score. Chicken Wonton appetizers were a hit, could of had them as a meal, yum. Seafood very good and a great selection of wine. The cheesecake I highly recommend-excellent---- The owner, Wayne is always present if you have any questions and very attentive to positive and negative comments. My French toast casserole was good, but my husband's accompaniments to his omelet were quite unsatisfactory. I would note that the management did give us a discount because of our problems. Went there this evening and had the mussels and sushi. It was very good. When I asked for a second piece of bread I was told I would have to pay extra for it since I wasn't having a "meal". Well, the mussels, sushi and 2 glasses of wine cost me $65 with tip. If they are promoting themselves as a high end restaurant and charging accordingly yet want to charge extra for a piece of bread that costs them 10 cents, they don't need my business. Won't be back. What a roller coaster! I'll sum it up with a few quick points. -beautiful olive oil with a nice balsamic ruined by some cheap store bought bread. This perhaps bothered me the most as it is SO easy to fix. How does the guy at the top think that it's OK at a place like this to serve crappy store bought bread with such beautiful olive oil and balsamic? -we arrived at 6pm. The soup of the day was lobster bisque which when ordered I was told they had already run out. When we were getting ready to leave I noticed someone eating lobster bisque! -Cocktails are poorly made and not original. Defiantly not worth the money. -I ordered the $26 scallop dish. It had sand in every bite of scallop. 7 of them total with one destroyed in the middle. My kid could put a better sear on a scallop. Sauce was marginal. Green beans were not seasoned at all and very bland. The capers were very sour and did not go with the dish at all. This was at BEST a $15 dish. -One of our friends ordered the stuffed chicken dish. I did not try it but she was super happy with it and it did look on point. -One of the best Cesar salads I have ever had. Very intricate flavoring! It was so disappointing the rest of the meal couldn't live up to this. This was by far the highlight of my time here. -Service was marginal at best (I'm being nice) and pretty slow. At the prices this place is charging EVERYTHING should be top notch. They are in my opinion at this level competing with places in the area like the Copper Door, and coming up VERY short. - I hope this place gets it together. There is such a shortage of NICE places to eat in this area. Every time we get something new it turns out to be a disappointment. So unfortunate. read more

My husband and I were visiting with my toddler and found bistro 29 on Yelp. The reviews looked promising and we were craving sushi. I will say that the sushi was pretty good and reasonably priced. Here's what turned me off. I asked for bread. The waitress said that they only bring out bread and butter, if you order off the main menu. We ordered sushi. Keep in mind that I had ordered a glass of wine and my husband was looking over the beer menu. We also ordered a $8 side of pasta with butter for my 1 year old. I asked nicely again and said id love some bread so my son has something to munch on. The waitress returned with one small dinner roll and a triangle sliver of butter. Not only was I insulted, but we decided not to order anything else. I'm not sure how much dinner rolls cost, but I would've ordered more alcohol and probably dessert, had I not been punished for only ordering off the sushi menu. Food was great but this kind of service comes off as pretentious. Oh and I was charged $2.50 for 2 sides of spicy mayo. I will also add that my waitress seemed very sweet. Just tried tonight for my second time getting a to go order. The first time , I tried ordering sushi and was told that they didn't have sushi that day. Tonight i asked if they had sushi, (they did) but then was told they don't do sushi to go. For a new business, I don't think they should be turning away business. Only reason I give 1 star is because I have to put something. But a 0 star would be my choice, because I've never been able to eat there. On a schedule like mine, I only have time for take out. Happy to find a new option in the mountains! The food quality was right up there with nicer restaurants in Buckhead! I had a lovely Atlantic salmon dish. Cooked perfectly. Veggies were attractive, crisply cooked and beautifully juliened. Nice sauce with a bit of spice hiding at the bottom of the dish under some fairly pedestrian white rice. There were NO leftovers. Dining parter had the porch chop "steak" artfully presented standing tall on it's side. Good side of well seasoned mashed potatoes and some interesting roasted Brussels sprouts with a horseradish sauce tanginess. Chop was a tad dry, maybe a minute too long on the grill but not bad. Menu offers many options. Nice wine selections, fairly reasonable price. They have a sushi menu, didn't peek over to see if an official sushi bar but there was on attractive looking bar somewhat separate. LOVED that they have several GLUTEN FREE options clearly marked on the menu. Kudos for the cloudless chocolate cake. I was too full to eat it there but got one to go and it was heavenly! Our group of 5 spent two nights at Harrah's in Murphy, NC. The first night we ate at the restaurant in Harrah's and had a bad experience, food and service wise. The second night we ate at Bistro 29 and had a wonderful time. There was an unusual odor at the front door that was explained as coming from beneath the floor. Something the owner was working on. And as we got to our table we didn't notice it anymore. the wait staff was very nice and attentative and answered any questions we had about the menu. I ordered the baked brie for the table and we all enjoyed it. The wife and I shared the Cobb salad and the shrimp and scallops over pasta. I wanted to pick up my plate and lick it clean. It was delicious. Other members had the Cobb salad with steak, a grilled stuffed chicken breast and the pecan coated trout. Everything was really good. We ended with the flourless chocolate cake and the peach cobbler for two. The cobbler was good but not great. Overall I would recommend bistro 29 for A nice place to eat in Murphy, NC. read more

The shrimp and grits were overwhelmed with an excess of pimento cheese sauce. So overwhelming in fact that the only thing I could taste for certain in my entree was the cheese. The sauce needs to be subtle - not soup.
