Based on a side conversation with Phil S, I decided to stop by and check out Bistro 6050. The location is easy enough to get to on Irving Park and in a good location as it is not too close to the stop light at Austin, which gets very crowded and makes crossing the street or getting out of your car a somewhat dangerous ordeal. If you have ever parked there, you will know what I mean. I was able to cross the street and live to tell the tale. The place itself is very cute once you get inside. There are plenty of tables if you chose to dine in, but quite frankly this is food I would want to take home and enjoy in the comfort of my home with some bubbles. I loved that there were two nice size stuffed chairs where I could sit and wait for my order. Because I was hungry and Phil's review said that he wished the empanadas were bigger, I order three of each of the following: barbacoa, creamy chicken, spinach ricotta, TSAP (traditional south asian potato), ham/cheese and the pulled porky. In addition I ordered the barbacoa, creamy chicken and asian chicken adobo. Full disclosure, since I was doing take out, I figured that I would do the full monty and get t all. No way me and The Doctor were going to eat all of this, but figured I would have lunch and dinner for the next few days. The young lady who assisted me seemed surprise at the amount I was ordering and wanted to know if I was having a party...HAHAHAHA! Very cute. She was very helpful in taking my order and provided me with a free sweet tea made from Earl Grey. I have never done EG cold, but gotta say I loved it. The other nice thing was that they were playing this incredible jazz music; that coupled with the comfy chair and iced tea made the time go by fast. I had parked on the meter and had added 30 mins from my phone app, which was perfect. She actually checked to see if I was on a meter to make sure I didn't run out of time while they prepared my food. I love that the empanadas are baked, not fried and that they had these little identifiers on them (flower, triangle,star, square, etc.) to help tell which was which. The top of the containers had hand written descriptions and drawing of the little identifiers to allow you to decipher what was in each container. They also came with a pepper jelly dipping sauce. Three empanadas are $8.95; while they seemed small, I got full on what I had. The pastry was nice and light and baking added a cleaner flavor than what you would get from being fried in oil. The crepes were also very nice, light with a slightly sweet taste to them. The pepper jelly was not what I expected...it was sweet. The Doctor liked it but I didn't use any as it was too sweet for me (just my personal taste, nothing against the jelly). I had to travel another 28 mins to get home due to traffic, but I am happy to report that the food was still warm. The Doctor and I tried everything but the spinach/TSAP and the Creamy Chicken crepes. Saving those for tomorrow. I would say the barbacoa was nice, tender and a different flavor since it wasn't prepared like I am used to from Mexican restaurants, but delicious none the less. Pulled Porky and Creamy Chicken were good as well, very nice blending of subtle flavors without overpowering the meat and pastry. The crepes were great and well prepared (speaking as someone who makes crepes). I did not require a knife to eat the crepes, which goes towards how tender the crepe and meat were. I think next time I will try one of the dessert crepes. I don't usually do dessert but they have a chocolate and coconut one, two of my favorite flavors (I still dream about that chocolate coconut cake from the now closed Booth One). Gotta say this was a pleasant surprise for me and it was on the way home. I don't go this way home all the time, but this place could get me to alter my route every now and then.

The beauty of mom and pop restaurants are not only the outstanding customer service that it provides, but also, the fresh ingredients that the restaurant are almost and usually guarantees to deliver. As I discovered the restaurant by yelp searching on a late night for some bad craving for sweets, Bostro 6050 was the first pop out. The outside of the shop may not look like much, but if you do drive slowly you would definitely spot it easily . I could go on to talk about the interior of the restaurant but I am sure that not what we are here for . So let's just dive right in : Service: absolutely outstanding since both owner(the wife and the husband) make sure you are being take good care of. Parking : street parking are easier to be found Food: Gelato is a must in the menu specially the pistachio flavor, you might noticed the color is not as "vibrant" as the super market brand(but that's because they use the real deal instead of food coloring ). Also, their per-scoop size aren't the same as store brands, but trust me, you are tasting the concentrated version of gelato(literally). Which I also recommend the Rose flavor just cause no where else had it (that's if you want to be more advantageous). Their empanadas are also very outstanding! I am not much of a pork person but the Barbacoa are delicious. If you are looking for something different, fresh and local, give them a try! As both of the restaurant owners will tell you everything about their proudly productions . P.S: and no, they did not pay me for speaking so highly of them, I am just genuinely promoting business owners that are truly passion with their business.

My wife's former co worker told me about Bistro 6050 awhile ago so I bookmarked it. Well tonight I decided to stop by and check it out 5 Stars on 203 reviews impressive. What's the scoop? 8:15pm and the place is packed. They seem to be a little short staffed cause the poor girl in the front seems to be totally overwhelmed, scrambling & frazzled to keep up w/the demand for drinks, ice cream, crepes & coffees. The empanadas are prepared & cooked in the back. Each order placed is served piping hot & fresh. Bistro 6059 is kind of a cool place sort of a 50's Style diner w/old time music playing. * Creamy Chicken - Peruvian Style cooking W/dairies, imported yellow hot peppers & spicy. Absolutely remarkable (my Favorite one) * Barbacoa - slow cooked beef for 6hrs mixed w/herbs & spices w/a little kick. Very good soft seasoned beef that melts in your mouth * Spinach Ricotta - spinach, ricotta, mozzarella & Parmesan cheeses (least favorite) The empanadas were excellent and probably the best commercially made empanadas I ever had. I will definitely be back again very soon. The only thing is I wish they were a little bigger.

First visit here and this place is a GEM!!! Owner and gentlemen working window are so sweet and nice! We requested 2 empanadas they were out of and the owner made them fresh for us. By the way...the spinach ricotta is delicious...check out the cheery note she even put on the box! Partner had an edible pina colada tea-fresh and light. I had an iced Earl grey tea...really good! We will definitely be back! Good sized menu, fair prices and outstanding people here!

The owners of this place is just as sweet as their ice cream and crepes that we just devoured! We got the biscoff crepe, Nutella and banana crepe, and scoops of ube, cookies and cream, Ferrero Rocher ice creams in separate containers. Everything was so delicious. Understandable that it's curb pick up only right now, due to the pandemic, but that did not stop us from hanging around! Thank you, Chris!

I just came here today for pick up. ordered 3 empanadas and 3 drinks. oh my god! so good! they have a symbol for each flavor in the empanadas and they stamp it onto the top of the empanadas. VERY UNIQUE. I ordered the ube freak shake, cookies and creams, and the matcha iced tea. i loved the flavor of ALL of them! you seriously won't be disappointed. I personally really loved the iced matcha, it was my first time trying it and it's really distinct flavor. I think it has yerba maté in it (from Argentina!) Tastes just like it

Bistro 6050 is such a cute little spot for a quick sweet or salty treat! The menu is SO extensive ranging from empanadas to burgers to crepes and ice cream. I really like that there are a few vegetarian empanadas available. I didn't try any this time but I'm looking forward to trying a couple next visit! To crave my sweet tooth, I ordered the banana Nutella crepes. The French velvet crepes were spot on! I especially liked how the crepes were not paper thin. They held their shape/structure which made them enjoyable to eat. The decadent Nutella filling added quite a punch. Banana flavor was not overpowering. I recommend these for people with a chocolate craving. I really enjoy how each item has a handwritten message. "Hello beautiful" was written on my crepe box and "stay cute" on the side of my friends milkshake. It is such a unique gesture that I haven't seen anywhere else. Major brownie points.

I can honestly say that I can count my stellar food experiences in the past 6 months on one hand. But 6050 tonight was 5 stars across the board. Boom boom boom! Social distancing protocol: 5 stars. Order online for no contact pickup at the window, or order through an intercom behind a window. Customer service: 5 stars!! One of the owners (I'm assuming) was taking orders behind the window and was so sweet. I mentioned that we had recently moved into the neighborhood and they took the time to give me a Portage Park pamphlet and wrote sweet notes on the box. They also threw in an extra dipping sauce. Warm fuzzies. Warm fuzzies all around! Empanadas: 5 stars. Lots of unique flavors to choose from. We got the porky, chaat, and chorizo. Ugh. Warm. Flakey. Crisp, but also soft and chewy. The crust is perfectly thin to let the fillings shine through. The fillings themselves are well seasoned and balanced. Dipping sauce was a sweet and spicy sauce that was a great compliment to the empanadas! Ice cream: I'll admit it. I've been a Jeni's fan girl, but this ice cream is something worth writing home about. We got the pistachio and chocolate ice cream. I love a pistachio that doesn't pretend to be almond or cherry - it's just pure roasted nuttiness. And the chocolate. Heavenly, rich, creamy chocolate! So good. Our hearts and bellies are happy. We will be back!

We ordered delivery from here tonight on Grubhub and were blown away by the quality! We tried the crepes, empanadas, shakes, coffee & even horchata! Every single item was purely delicious and had a unique flavor that impressed my whole family! The banana & Nutella crepes were light, fluffy & packed with Nutella goodness. The lime crepe literally blew my mind. It's basically key lime pie in a crepe. It was delicate, light, and had the perfect tart lime flavor. Spinach & ricotta empanadas were flaky and they came with the most amazing pepper relish dipping sauce that made them even tastier. We are so excited to try different flavors the next time! The Oreo milkshake was to die for. I don't even know how they get it to taste so good. It had such a deep & rich flavor. But it wasn't overly thick like other milkshakes. It had the perfect consistency and Oreo blended throughout. My sister tried their "hot horchata" which was basically like hot chocolate except horchata flavored! Omg! How unique and so tasty. She said it was her favorite thing. So happy we tried this place! You can really tell each and every item is prepared with care and consideration. It's hard to find home cooking this good nowadays. So glad we have this neighborhood gem!!

A friend of mine who lives in the area recommended this place so I stopped by on a hot day and wanted a fruity tea drink. Because, it's my first time I wanted to order several things so Chris recommended several items. During our short conversation he offered me free samples and truly awesome recommendations. The Nutella milkshake was a delight and the guava tea was very refreshing . Then ice cream samples were amazing and the nuts was very different and a very healthy snack. I really liked that Chris took his time to explain everything to me and recommend specific time. I haven't tried everything but I will definitely be back to try everything on the menu!

Seems like there's enough 5 stars so I'll keep this as a list for my own future orders. Barbacoa - hearty and tastes a little like sloppy joe with a kick Ham and Cheese - tastes like ham and cheese Cheesy Pepperjelly - tastes like the sauce! Shared a creamy chicken empanada and an Asian potato empanada, as well as sweet strawberry nutella crepes.... had a great time in this intimate restaurant. Will return!!! While we were waiting for our order, a friendly waitress gave us samples of some shakes they offer.. cookies and cream (which tasted a bit coffee-ish to me, and i absolutely loved it!!!) and a Nutella shake that was to die for!!! Happy side note: they are byob so if you want to come nosh on some appetizer types of food and enjoy a glass of wine or beer, this is place to be!!!!!

I had extra time before going back to school and my options were going to tj maxx to "look around" (never a good idea) or to be a good student and do some studying. So yes! I decided to be a good student so I found this place on yelp and it seemed like a good place with a calm atmosphere. I loved it from the moment I opened the door, the atmosphere, the music, the coziness. I wanted a bubble tea and I asked if they had non-dairy milk. The lady behind the counter was so friendly and sweet. She showed me the creamer they use to make the teas. It wasn't non-dairy but she happily offered to use coconut milk instead. I went for the Earl gray flavor and it came out really good! I really appreciate the flexibility and excellent service. They have several food items as well, sadly none of them are vegan but I definitely be back to try their other beverages. read more

The best ice cream and shakes you'll ever have. I mean the Nutella and the Uber ones are out favorite and it's not calorie friendly but wow is it worth every bit. I would say the portion of the drinks were big we shared one drink with two people. Also the service is impeccable. We've gone there many times and she remembers us and chats up conversation as well. Also the empanadas was delicious. I've tried then all and a visit here is well with it. read more

Visited this place since it was rated so highly. And honestly, the raters were right! This bistro has a limited menu (empanadas, smoothies, tea, and crepes) but everything is tasty. My roommates and I tried most of the empanadas just to see how they were, and WOW they were amazing. Perfectly cooked, very flavorful, and the best part is that they aren't that expensive (for Chicago at least). We also had the nutella/banana crepe, which was so good! The restaurant itself is small and has an eclectic mix of decorations. The owner was working there with his wife, and they were both wonderful people to us. There was a bit of a delay in the kitchen, and he came out multiple times to give us updates and check on us. It just felt very homey inside. Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Overall, it's a great little place for lunch or for an experience. My only gripe is that I wish they had a larger menu because I'm sure it would all be very tasty! read more

Loved this place as soon as I walked in. What a welcome addition to the Jefferson park area! Kid friendly, they or anyone can write on the call walls. Adults can listen to jazzy music playing while being greeted by the lovely owners. This cafe offers sweet and savory fresh to order crepes, handcrafted ice cream, delish milkshakes and the cup cakes are to die for. Wait, I'm not done yet! 10 freshly baked empanadas awsome coffee and wonderful choice of loose leaf tea. Great spot for a get together and it's BYOB. This cafe is very inviting and I recommend it highly. I'll be back. read more

I have been here numerous times and I absolutely love their lattes and crepes. The quality of their food is outstanding and the owners are nice. I have to say, this place is truly 5 stars as far as service and food but I am rating a 4 (which is still great) only because of personal preferences that I have. Which doesn't apply to everyone but I consider important for me. For example, I have learned to pre-order my food for pickup because dining in while it has a very comfortable setting and beautiful decor; if you're eating with a friend that you're trying to have a conversation with it can be kind of a very distracting place to fully enjoy a meal and hold a conversation as sometimes you may be interrupted more than once. Although it may be well intentioned it is not always good timing. If you have dined in you'll definitely understand why. Now if you're a total people person and enjoy the non stop chatter directed at your table then you'll feel right at home. But if you're just focused on enjoying your meal and exchanging basic pleasantries while trying to interact with your special company then I may suggest you pre order and take home. Other than this, I appreciate the excellent quality of food, empanadas, crepes and hot lattes. They have an outstanding menu and this sets them apart from other restaurants. Their taro milkshake is amazing as well as their horchata latte!! Again owners are very nice. Just sometimes we'd like to enjoy a personal conversation without many Interruptions. All in all, Yummm !! And I highly recommend! read more

Roselle the owner is a gem! The best homemade ice cream around! All fresh ingredients. Her Empanadas are Peruvian style and tasty. Crepes are good too and the juiciest hamburgers! Then there is their bubble tea, which is lovely with citrus bubbles instead of tapioca. A hidden delight on the northwest side~ read more

I walked in and i fell in love with this hole in the wall! Everyone was laughing and the couple that owns this awesome place are incredibly warm and welcoming! I had ham & cheese, barbacoa, and creamy chicken empanadas, they were great! Ham & cheese was my favorite! Whenever I'm in the area I will be stopping by! Thank you for being so gracious! read more

A quaint little place with a personal approach from the owners. I tried the empanadas; two barbacoa and one spinach. The barbacoa was a little tough but flavorful. The spinach was creamy and also tasty. The chef/owner/waitress advised on my next visit to try the burger. She said it has fourteen different spices in it. Found this place on yelp and decided to try because of the good reviews, and they were all accurate! They have the best crepes (tried the Biscoff with Walnuts and Asian adobo) and shake/smoothie that I have ever tried. And the homemade ice cream was amazing! Empanadas were delicious as well! The owner, Roselle was super nice and friendly! She interacts with all of her customers. She is one of the many reasons that you would want to come back! :) read more

My family came in today and we all enjoyed ourself a very much. This review is on the coffee, tea, ice cream and ambiance. My Father in law loved the coffee. My kids loved the ambiance and ice cream, we had cookies and cream and vanilla. Yum I had the Caramel Toffee Tea. It was so good. I love the flavor and this will be my Go to place for ice cream and tea, and coffee for my Father in Law. Great place to bring the kids. read more

I have seen this little bistro in our neighborhood and finally got a chance to try it out. Place is nice and the staff is so friendly. The have a large assortment of empanadas, some sandwiches, coffee, bubble teas and ice cream. Everything was really good and I look forward to coming back and trying their coffee. read more

When choosing where and how you will next treat yourself, think best ice cream ever, and head immediately to Bistro 6050. This place also offers comfortable seating, great coffee, and other drink options, but, wow, this is seriously the best ice cream I have had in as long as I can remember. While I ordered cafe latte ice cream, which I very much enjoyed, I was provided a sample of their biscoff (yes the lotus bakery cookies) ice cream, as well as the pistachio. I can say the pistachio is the best I ever tasted, and the biscoff was so rich and delicious, I have been dreaming about it, and will be heading back for both soon! You can also get various quantities packed - to go. The perfect compliment for your next Netflix bing, or however you will be passing the time for the immediate future. read more

I am obsessed with their teas (cold and hot). My "go to" tea is the ginger peach. All their empanadas are amazing. My favorites are the spinach ricotta, Spanish chorizo, and pulled porky. The Asian chicken adobo crepe was delicious. The ambience is warm & inviting. The owners are very friendly and passionate about the food they serve. read more

Bistro 6050 is the hidden gem of Portage Park. Food, coffee, and ice cream are amazing! Roselle makes everything from scratch and is always coming up with new flavors and food recipes. She remembers her customers and always makes us feel welcome when we visit! TSAP empanadas and chorizo crepes are my favorite, but we often get one of each empanda because they are so tasty! read more

Everything is about as good as it possibly could be. I've been here a few times already and it's always spot on. The owner truly cares about her food and customers. My favorite empanada was the creamy chicken, but they're all great. Best coffee/espresso in the area by far, and loose leaf teas. I had the Jasmine Green and Mint. Homemade ice cream. Absolutely the best ice cream in the area, and one of the best I've had here in Chicago! It is our go-to for treats when we take walks. We've been in the neighborhood a year now, and in that time they have been walk-up/carry-out/delivery only, due to COVID. The owner is taking health and safety very seriously during this time, which I understand and appreciate. I drive by this place all the time, and never even knew it was here. I definitely recommend that they put a bigger, more eye catching sign outside in order to catch the attention of the Irving Park drivers. Walking by, my daughter & I decided to stop in. So far I have only tried the empanadas (pulled pork, creamy chicken, & potato), but those were fantastic. The spice combination they used in each of them was very flavorful. They are baked, not fried, and they are picture perfect (see picture, lol). That egg white sheen is everything! The owner was there, and she was so sweet, and informed me that they will soon be adding burgers to the menu. I cannot wait to come back to try their other empanada flavors, sandwiches, crepes, ice cream, and bubble tea. The inside was beautiful and very chill. Considering Alinea is 2 stars and similarly priced, I felt like a few things were lacking. The first issue? I left very hungry. The whole meal lacks any actual meat except two pieces of bird, which are small. The other dishes were primarily seafood or vegetables. I left at 70% capacity of fullness. Regarding the actual food, the quality was solid and the ingredients were excellent. The caviar was delicious, although the design of the small bowl and big bowl made it very annoying if any of your caviar came out you'd have to lift the small bowl out to scrape it. The next seafood platter had fresh shrimp and the toast was excellent with the sour cream. Tasted like a potato chip! The spring roll was unique and required you to roll it up. It's small but packs a good punch. The cabbage with Wagyu barely had any meat, so it was just a bite. The soup was very delicious and hot in temperature. The mackerel is small but fresh. Very good soup. The pancake dish was very unique and enjoyable with the pork. My favorite was the crumb dish with mushrooms. The crumbs were delicious. There were a few small oysters in it. If there were a few chicken bites it would have been perfect. The ending bird dish was tiny. I expected the whole bird to be cooked and many more pieces, but it included two bites and one leg with mushrooms. I thought one or two additional protein dishes were needed. I was at 60% full at that point and it went straight to desserts. The croissant with truffle was delicious with honey. Could have eaten 6 of those. The banana pudding really felt like delicious street food. The frozen shaved ice was delicious with the chocolate underneath. The white chocolate dessert and cracker were light with guava. It felt like the meal heavily overindexed on dessert and not actual entrees. Overall, for 1 star and $200 range I would have given this 9.5/10. But for 2 stars and $325, with a comparison with Alinea and other 2 star restaurants I've been to, this fell short. Increase the food portions and decease the dessert volume. The staff are highly attentive and well trained. Dinner took 2.5 hours.

Bistro 6050 is a hidden gem in the Portage Park neighborhood. Their ice cream is the best I've had in the city, hands down. My personal favorite is the Biscoff - it has just the right amount of cinnamon and crunch. If you're feeling adventurous, I also recommend the Charcoal Nut - it's a very unique taste, but it's good. And if you're feeling mysterious, go for Bed of Roses. If you're in the right mood, you can't beat it. This place is the best and most affordable place you can come to if you want to try international authentic food! It is not expensive at all and they have the best food here! Discovered this incredible place by accident with a huge craving for European crepes and I was delighted to find the best crepes in Chicago, totally by chance. We also tried the spicy mango ice cream which was creamy and delicious and great addition to my caramel crepes already. This cafe is great! I really love the way the menu keeps growing. Next time you pop in, try some Halva ice cream, a vegetarian sandwich, or burger!!! The long established Burger Belly is great too, fancy with all the fixings, but if you are in the mood for a simple, old fashion burger the Bistro's the place. Bistro 6050 is our favorite spot to go get ice cream! They have unique and traditional flavors, and each one I have tried is delicious. I'd recommend the Ferrero Rocher if you like hazelnut! The guy is from Belgium. This place is amazing. My kids love going as an outing- they have opened a COVID friendly window. Look for the red car- great service & when it reopens great atmosphere!
