I have to update my review. Last time was a 5 star review, not it's down to average 3 stars. You can always tell the authenticity of an establishment by the clientele. Used to see all sorts of asians, now...well, let's just say they have tacos, enchiladas and mangos dipped in tajin. The only thing missing is the name change to El Bistro B. We live in the Frisco area so this was always a treat to drive out there for the excellent generous portions, authentic viet dishes that your mother in law would eat without complaining she could cook it better because they have authentic viet mother in laws back there cooking. Now, the food is really salty, portions are smaller, prices higher and dishes that your viet mother in law would spit on. Tacos, seriously?! I mean, even the signs are in Spanish, is this the same Bistro B I gave glowing reviews and 5 stars 2 years ago? If I wanted Mexican food I would go to the hundreds of other places that serve authentic mexican food, afterall, we are only a border away from Mexico. This is a place located within the Walnut Street Mall. It's basically just a general Asian restaurant which is geared more towards the Vietnamese. However despite the amount Asian restaurants I've been to, this place had a unique selling point: the menu. The menu is HUGE. There are like 550 items on the menu and it feels like it never ends. They have anything from your typical Vietnamese dishes like Pho to Korean ribs. It's almost to the point of ridiculousness. This place is like a jack of all trades kind of restaurant. They don't do any one dish particularly great but just at least "OK" which should be expected as a result of their expansive menu. Their portions are HUGE so quantity is definitely not an issue. I came here a little over a month ago and it was good but today I ordered the pho that I got last time, but it had completely different noodles and not the original pho noodles. I waited about 25 minutes for someone to bring me a menu just so I could make sure nothing has changed or to even make sure I for sure ordered the correct thing. Which I had and then a waiter came again and I showed him my untouched bowl and told him I didn't want that die to it not being the same since these noodles were thicker and sticky so a bad texture for me to eat and all he said was "yea we switched the noodles" and then walked off. My boyfriend and I are adventurous eaters and wanted a specific soup made with pig's blood... our server flat out told us no, that we shouldn't order that. So I've been here multiple times, and tonight's visit has done it for me. This is usually the default for late night Asian food. They always open super late and their menu has over 300 items. Sounds great but makes you wonder how they take care of their huge inventory. Food is usually mediocre and just a quick and easy meal. Most of the time, their service is always a bit slow as well. That's understandable since they're always packed during peak hours. After eating here tonight, I will not be coming back. I found a hair in my appetizer .. Whatever it happens from time to time. An older lady was on the phone talking with her friend while ringing up our order and completely forgot to give us our egg rolls. She threw a receipt at us to sign and didn't give us a copy. When we ask for a copy of the receipt, she and another younger cashier were talking trash about us in Vietnamese thinking that we don't understand it. They said "May ba nay nhieu chuyen" meaning these bitches are troublesome. Is it that troublesome and unreasonable to ask for a copy of a receipt? I think it's more unreasonable for an employee to be on the phone conducting personal business during working hours and extremely rude to customers! We'd love to support local small businesses but not sure if we want to come to a restaurant so people can trash talk and not give us the food that we paid for. read more

Bistro B has always been a late night staple for Vietnamese food. My sister took me here when she lived in Texas almost 8 years ago and I had fond memories of good and delicious food. Fast forward to 2018 and I must say the quality and service have dropped a lot from my memories. I ordered wonton soup, autumn rolls, and Claypot Catfish. The soup had limited flavor, but the wonton was tasty. The claypot fish tasted old and over cooked. The autumn rolls I will say were the highlight as the sauce and flavors were top notch. Overall, I'm sad to see that this place hasn't kept up with the original quantity I remember from all those years past. We ordered #325 which was Thai combination hot pot with salmon, tofu, spare ribs and beef. The kitchen staff was mistakenly giving us the regular Thai hot pot, so we had to inform our servers multiple times to give us the rest. The server had to come twice to give us salmon and tofu. Still, we didn't have the spare ribs and we paid full price for it. I was very frustrated and complained to the cashier who only apologized. Tofu is sautéed with onion and plenty spicy. Typical "salad" on the side of bean sprouts, lettuce, carrot and cucumber. Helps cut the spice. I also recomend getting one of the fresh made juices. I went for orange, cucumber, carrot and ginger. Wow! It's got a little kick to it. Started with a large portion of lemongrass tofu spring rolls that we tore through strait away (I'll post a picture next time). The above is all vegan and the menu has pages of vegan and vegetarian options. I've loved everything I've tried. My son always gets the vengan fried rice and no complaints there either. I come here almost four times a week. They have a vast menu, that may take a few trips to hone in on what you like. The more people you bring, the more exciting food options of sharing will become. The portion sizes are filling, and the atmosphere, though bustling at times, is very entertaining yet relaxed. I love the new year lantern they have strewn from the ceiling during the months of February and March; it is as if you've stepped into a little pocket of Vietnam. As much food as they have, they have just as many flavors and options of boba tea, boda blended and iced. I love the mango passion fruit green tea with boba and mango jelly. Don't worry if you can't speak or read in Vietnamese, there are English translations. The only downfall there is, is the service at times. One day you could be seated quickly and served quickly, another, you have to flag someone down. I've read that Asian cultures tend to leave you be until you're ready, but a little more attention to your guest could improve. Other than that, be adventurous and get fat and happy! read more

We went in for a bite this weekend. This place was recommended to me by my nail tech and I did go in with high hopes for it to be BOMB. It took roughly about 7-10 min for someone to take our drink order. After that the food did take about 25 min to come out. I assume cause it was a Saturday and it was a bit busy. The spring rolls were average, didn't taste very fresh to me, they were however a good size. The broccoli beef was good too and i asked if i could substitute the white rice with something else and the waiter said no and suggested no other options. The portions here are ginormous. Trust me. I've heard great things about Bistro B and I recently read an article written by a Vietnamese student that recommended Bistro B as authentic Vietnamese food.... So I decided to try it. It's not at all what I expected. It looks like an old diner from the 60's that was converted into a Vietnamese restaurant. It's very open and bright and it has neon lights. It was actually a pretty cool setting because you don't see many places like that here. Their menu is LONG! It looks like every thing that has ever been cooked in Vietnam is on this menu.... Ok maybe that's an exaggeration but it is VERY LONG! We ordered cha gio (Vietnamese egg rolls) as our first appetizer and they were ok. I would say they were pretty good but I've had much much better. If you haven't then they would probably be pretty good. We got Banh Xeo as our second appetizer and I wasn't really happy with it. Banh Xeo is a Vietnamese crepe that looks like an omelet to most people. It's not eggy though. Theirs was WAY too big, first of all. It was bigger than a football. And it had too many bean sprouts in it. I'm used to Banh Xeo being smaller, softer, and with some bean sprouts but not 2 handfuls. (That's about how much it looked like) For our entrées we got Pho Tai (noodle soup with thinly sliced raw beef that cooks instantly when you put it in the hot soup) in Queen size and a rice dish I haven't seen before. It has a long name, I put it in the description of my photo. My boyfriend said it was really good. My Pho was good but it was also way too much. I wanted something small and this was the biggest bowl of Pho I've ever had... And I've had a lot! I can't imagine what the King size would look like. Before we left I realized they also had boba, which is one of my favorite things, so I decided to try theirs. My "usual" is boba, unsweetened green tea with a little honey added, and no milk. They didn't have unsweetened green tea so I just went simple with green tea and boba. Their boba was a little too soft. It should be slightly chewer. But it was still pretty good. Overall I think next time I'm in the mood for Vietnamese food I'll probably try a different place but I'll definitely keep this one in mind. read more

When it comes to stacked Vietnamese communities in Texas, Houston often gets all of the love, but Dallas is certainly no slouch. Folks like me who have forgotten about D-Town's robust community can be reminded at a place like Bistro B, one of the most versatile Viet restaurants in the city and certainly among the most popular. Located in a strip mall parking lot of all things Viet, Bistro B gets its very own prominent corner and it's certainly one of the area's main attractions. The lot is often full from people lining up just to score a seat here. When I first arrived during the early dinner hours, the place was bustling with all sorts of folks from families to large groups of young people just feasting away at what seemed to be heaps and platters of various Vietnamese specialties. So off to town my group and I went - we ordered one of the family combination platters that had a little bit of everything. We had everything from soup to seafood, a little array of each major section of the menu, and more importantly enough for folks to sample a variety of what Bistro B did best. Some standouts include a brilliant Ca Kho To (braised catfish claypot), which had some soft pieces of catfish, all stewed to perfection without too much black bean sauce. We had a large serving of Bo Luc Lac (marinated beef cubes), which were tender and surprisingly light. I also liked the Canh Chua Ca (Viet Sour Fish Soup), with chunks of salmon that was full of awesome flavor. It was neither too sour, but savory enough to not want to finish it right away. I noticed the nearby tables all enjoying their food. Their bun dishes (vermacelli) looked fabulous and I noticed the menu has an hearty variety of Chinese food on the menu. Lots of American style dishes (garlic chicken, kungpao chicken, etc.) along with some home style meals such as hun tun (wontons) and hot pot specialties. The menu is so not small it's not even funny. The service was busy, but efficient. Due to the nature of the biz, they're not the most friendly bunch, but armed with their ear pieces they were listening for orders like the secret service. It was downright laughable how they'd be explaining a dish to a table and in a blink of an eye would retreat to settle something in the front. As the night went on, it only got more crowded, and the wait at the door ballooned up to over an hour. I would come back here in a heartbeat. With a menu so large, it's hard to want to constantly eat the same thing each time. I saw they have a extra large (super xe lua!!) bowl of pho that looks like a kitchen sink. I've only seen those challenges at certain restaurants but it's totally awesome to know these folks are doing it too. Consider it done for my next visit to Bistro B. read more

It's been many years since I've been in the area but asking for a recommendation at the bank I was steered once again to this restaurant. I wasn't disappointed, I had the broken rice and nem nuong rolls & fried egg rolls. I really enjoyed the tastyness of the egg rolls. The nem nuong rolls were OK, but I think it's partially due to my sore throat I have altered taste buds today. The broken rice I would say my favorite part was the tau hu ky. (Tofu wrapped shrimp cake) though I felt that their shrimp cake was probably mixed with pork because the meat was more gray than pink orange the regular shrimp color, which makes sense in an owner cost standpoint. Steamed egg cake is not always on my list, but hubby likes to eat this normally, for this portion of the dish, I've had better steamed egg cake. Finally: Get egg rolls from the to go menu section. Tried this place out for the first time today. Yes it was busy and we had to wait, no problem. We sat down after 10-15min and it was so hot inside, no fan and or the AC was not on that cold. Ordered appetizers and the shrimp rolls were mostly full of lettuce and not very good. Went to the bathroom and omg disgusting . The toilets were overfilled onto the ground it was really gross all wet on the floors with poo water and trash was not cleaned. Eww. Ordered food, waited a little bit. I usually have a great experience here, but I went last Saturday night and it was awful. While we were waiting I watched 2 full tables get up and leave. Once finally seated it took a long time for us to get service as well. The server was nice but he dropped the ball when he forgot to put in my friends order. My last visit here really saddens me. Bistro B used to be a really good place to eat, but it's all gone downhill since. Experience: Bistro is right next to Hong Kong market and in a pretty convenient place. The place is overly-decorated, which is not too bad I guess. I will admit that this is a great place to come with groups, seating for 15+ is readily available. It also opens late, which is nice. The floors are greasy and the bathrooms are kinda gross. Food: The food has declined since this place has opened. The food is really greasy and is not as appetizing as it used to be. I got the Shaken Beef and I was very confused and thought that I had the wrong order when I got it. there was barely any beef and alot of other things to fill up the space of the plate (raw lettuce, onions, etc.) This was the worst shaken beef that I've had anywhere, and it was like 11 dollars!!?. I usually get the chicken lettuce wrap or one of the rice plates, which I would recommend. I would not recommend the Pho though. if you want to get legit pho you should go across the street to pho95. The best thing about the food here is that it's cheap. It may not be the best, but I would go for the sandwiches and egg rolls. Service: I will say that their service has gotten alot better throughout the years. it used to be a hassle to get a refill, but now they are staffed well and the servers share all the tables, so you can ask any of their servers for anything. It's kind of overwhelming with the amount of Vietnamese dishes to choose from but variety is good. Service and Ambiance: The service here has always been pretty consistent! I've never experienced any problems with their service. They have many employees on the floor at all times so there are many people around if you need anything. Bistro B is such a lively place, the interior is very colorful and full of life! The restaurant also has a modern feel to it and it's always very clean. Drinks: The Boba and smoothies here are SO cheap! They are no more than $3.00!! Today, I had a mango smoothie with tapioca balls which was the perfect way to finish my meal off. Food: We started out with their egg rolls which are very affordably priced. My mom loves buying big trays of Bistro's egg rolls for family functions, they're pretty good and very cheap. I've also had the pho here a number of times. It is definitely not the best but I had to order it today because it was raining and I was cold and I just needed some pho in my system. The broth isn't that great to me but I still order it sometimes. I definitely recommend the Combination flat noodles and their Queen fried rice, they are both favorites of mine! Bistro B is unusually large for a Vietnamese restaurant, but everything is bigger in Texas, I guess? After growing up in Little Saigon (aka Westminster, CA) for many years, I came in with higher standards but was impressed by the authenticity and overall experience here. They have a very extensive menu from staple Vietnamese appetizers to noodle dishes to com tam (broken rice) dishes to pho noodle soups, etc. Good and standard for a Vietnamese restaurant. If you are new to Vietnamese food, you must have the spring rolls. They are light, refreshing, and so delicious! I also had my usual order of bun thit nuong cha gio (rice vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls) which was also excellent here. Will most likely come back to try more.
