Had dinner here the other night. Great atmosphere and good service. The side salad was very good. The chicken parm was excellent. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because of the service. The waiter started out very helpful but only checked on us once during the meal when our food first arrived. After finishing and the busser cleared the table, we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for him. He never asked if we wanted another beer, let alone water. The food was ok. The lasagna was decent and the chicken parm was very good. It does not come with pasta, but you will not need it! The cutlet is the size of a small pizza! Alright, I admit it. The food in this place is surprisingly good. I tend to be skeptical of other people's recommendations, but I go with it anyway. This one happened to be a good recommendation. First of all, when you come here, get the pasta. I was debating between two pasta dishes, and our server was so nice and accommodating simply suggested that I get both in half size portions. Problem solved, and I was a happy camper. I ordered the Pumpkin Ravioli and the Black Pasta (I think it was squid ink). Our server brought out the pumpkin first, because she said that it was less hearty, I believe. The ravioli were so light and delicate plushy little bundles of cheese filled joy. The mascarpone and the pumpkin filling was sweet, creamy, and smooth. The pasta were served in a butter and truffle oil sauce. This was one rich and decadent dish, so I was glad I got it in a half portion, as there was not way I would have been able to finish the whole thing. My second pasta dish was less inspiring. The black/ squid ink(?) pasta was served in a pretty flavorless tomato sauce. The menu promised a robust roasted tomato sauce, but it tasted no different from bottled to me. The assorted seafood that came with the pasta dish were all cooked to perfection. The shrimp and scallops were tender, the clams and mussels sweet, the pasta was also well cooked. But, the dish needed some spice. It was frankly pretty bland. For dessert, we ordered the crepes. They were amazing! They were filled with strawberries and Nutella, slightly crispy and golden on the outside but still soft and pliant. Good food, good service. P.S. The bread they give you in the bread basket isn't that good, so if you're watching your carb consumption save it for the pasta. It's a much better tradeoff. read more

I come here often with family, which honestly is the only way I can afford it ;). There are two items on the menu that I crave on a regular basis: the fried calamari and the pasta bolognese. Let me tell you why: the calamari is served with fried zucchini and fried basil slivers. On the side there is a spicy marinara sauce, that is so good, that I usually ask for extra. I'm not even hungry right now and my mouth is watering at the thought! The bolongese is just soo tasty. I dont know why - but its just delicious. This is right across the street from my office. I tend to go here for business lunches. I happened to go on Saturday for a business dinner. So I figured I should give is a review.... Ambiance is nice. It has outdoor seating. It is usually quiet and good for a quick lunch. It obviously serves Italian food. Having said all of that, it is decent but not phenomenal or memorable. It is odd because it truly is a nice looking spot and there is one great waiter that is the typical animated italian waiter. But I feel like the food is not amazing. I wish I could rate it higher because I have gone here a few times but every time, I don't feel it is a great option. It may be the crowded seating and general flow of the place. In a city teeming with Italian eateries, Bistro Milano runs in the middle of the pack. Black tagliolini with seafood ($25) was good but not memorable. My friend ordered the grilled chicken paillard ($22), which looked incredible, but turned out to be on the dry side. Came here on a date with my girlfriend after a visit to the MoMA. Great decor and they also had outdoor seating which was nice since it was the summer time. We ordered an appetizer, two entrees, drinks and dessert which came up to around $120.00. The lobster ravioli was pretty good but the veal ravioli with truffle sauce is delicious. The appetizer and dessert were mediocre, nothing really special. The service was great, the waiter was very attentive. He knew what he was talking about when he was talking about the dishes, culture, etc. He made some good recommendations and told us to come back next time to try out the pizza which they are known for. read more

I was immediately won over because the outdoor seating area was uniquely as big as the interior and outdoors is where I like to be if possible. The food and wine continued to keep me happy and If you like martinis, I highly recommend the Duomo. You'll probably think you're in heaven. I shared the arugula and pear salad in red wine reduction and the dish was delicious and the portion was ample for two somewhat hungry women. My husband had the gnocchi which was light, fluffy and as good as any we had in Florence. The waiter told us that all pasta dishes could be prepared in 1/2 portiions as appetizers except for the lasagna. We had 2 of the signature dishes: baked eggplant and zuccini with mozzarella and tomatoe sauce which was amazing (not breaded like everywhere else) served in a cute casserole dish and the ravioli stuffed with mascarpone was very very rich, no surprise there. The salmon was moist and well seasoned, good too. Veal, chicken, risotto, other fish choices and great looking individual pizzas were whizzing by as they were being delivered to other diners. We polished off dinner with coffee and a nicely crusted creme brulee (3 spoons) and promises to each other to come back and try some other things. Love the restaurant. It's a small place but they have big glass windows to give the appearances of roomy. Had the calamari and yes the sauce does have a kick but I like it. We came here on a recommendation from the hotel. The place was not filled when we arrived but was at capacity when we left. Service was attentive but nothing spectacular. We ordered the 3-course meal for $45-ahi tartare, salmon steak with pureed cauliflower, and creme brulee. Ahi tartare was OK, didn't have much flavor but was fresh. The salmon steak was a bit overcooked-a little dry, a bit crusty on the thinner edges, seasoned OK; the cauliflower puree was like mashed potatoes but not. . . it worked with the salmon but again, nothing spectacular. This place was nice and reliable on my first night in NY. It was in close walking distance from my hotel near Rockafeller Center and it had a welcoming ambiance with outdoor cafe. My dinner companion was not feeling great, so we opted to sit inside instead. Nice table service, but it was pretty empty most of the time were there and the room was hotter than average. I enjoyed the ravioli special with roasted vegetables/pumpkin with a house salad. Pretty tasty. My companion said his shrimp pasta was "fine." All in all, the food was good and reliable, but didn't knock my socks off. I might come back should I want an Italian meal and I'm in a hurry in the area. read more

The worst pasta alla puttanesca I've ever eaten in my life. I asked to have it with anchovies instead of tuna because that's actually how it's supposed to be made. For some reason they thought vinegar soaked white anchovies would be appropriate. It also wasn't at all spicy and had no flavor. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PREFIX MENU! I eat out more than the average foodie. Honestly the best prefix lunch I have ever had. Tuna tartar was perfect, truffle and pumpkin ravioli, bucatini with pancetta was unbelievable, marinated steak excellent! I went to this place again and it was still a good but it was disappointing compared as my previous visit. I ordered a grilled chicken with spinach, the chicken turned out to be amazing it was pounded so thing they rolled it up, and the spinach needed some salt but was good. What took away from this experience was the loud football game in the background and the fans yelling at the tv. This restaurant is in a convenient location near work with fantastic food. I've had a dinner and numerous business lunches; though the company wasn't my choice of people, I have been able to indulge in the delicious menu, escaping from present company. The staff are polite, have proper etiquette and the food is quite outstanding. I was surprised, to be honest, because neither the location nor the clientele are my cup of tea. There are phenomenal spots in Little Italy or Nolita at a better price and no pretension, but if you're stuck in Midtown for work events, this is a good option. Trust me, this resto has better tasting food than some highly-rated spots on the Upper East Side. read more

Went here mid Nov 2012 with a group of about 15, we were seated promptly and our drink orders taken immediately. This same crowd has just dined at REMI the night before (same owners) so we had something to compare to ... That said, the ambiance was comfortable, nothing over the top, no rich stuffy stuffy feeling to it. Cozy, we were able to hear each other talking, no loud noises in the backgroud. The entrees were very generous portions and everyone in the group was pleased. I had the salmon and it was among the best I've ever had. I rate restaurants based on the dish primarily - a lot of the other variables are sometimes out of the managements control. No romantic ambiance, better for families, groups, etc. Service was good, busboys very attentive, waitress not as much. I can't comment on the pricing, was not the group leader therefore didn't see the bill but my dish was definitely worth every penny of whatever it did cost. Enjoy. Comfortable, Prompt. Great salmon. Went here on a Sunday night for a friend's engagement and let me just say not impressed at all. They decided to do a prefix menu and boy what a bad idea. They got ripped off out their ass because I checked their menu on their website and they shouldn't have been charged that much for half a plate of calamari ( I looked at other tables and we were literally served half portions if not less) and a plate of just some plain pappardelle. We had the option of calamari or mixed greens for appetizers (both very small portions compared to actual size served to other guests) and pappardelle or paillard di pollo for entree. They swore they were getting "hooked up" and getting "discount" because they apparently knew the manager or owner but unfortunately they were getting ripped off with half portions. Chicken was dry as hell but pasta was actually pretty good. I felt so bad for them because they're both really nice and knew they were getting ripped off (I had to bring it up because it was just messed up) but they didn't want to cause any trouble. The soon to be bride had a text from the supposedly "really great guy" of a manager saying what was included with the prefix which clearly stated dessert AND wine and by the way both were not given. Oh and guess what, that manager just so happened to not be in that day nor pick up any of the couples calls (hmmmmm fishy). We showed the other manager on duty and she was plain out rude and wouldn't honor it even though it was clearly his number. She tried to come up with some BS excuse claiming he meant dessert wine which was some nasty tasting wine even though the text clearly stated dessert AND wine. No one drank it. They ended up charging for all the dessert. Poor couple. Thank god this didn't happen to me or I would have caused a scene. This supposed manager Eric is a douche. I hope the couple cut ties with him because this guy did them real dirty. read more

Bistro Milano is a very good Midtown Manhattan Restaurant with attentive service, a fine selection of wines, and varied Italian fare. The fresh Italian bread, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar preceded our entrees--a delicious plate of eggplant parmigiana for me and spaghetti fruita di mare for my husband. The sauce was flavorful, and the generous portion of shrimp, mussels, and calamari made the dish satisfying. Ben-Hur Ranieri, the maitre d', is a fixture at this spot, who welcomes diners and makes everyone feel at home. The restaurant is a gem close to Broadway theatres and Midtown attractions. read more

Don't ever try the pizza, go to the restaurant in front it is called Pizzarte. I tried the pizza and tastes like 1 dollar pizza from the streets but this one was 20 dollars. We stopped in for drinks and a small bite to eat at this attractive bistro early afternoon. First drawn in by the outdoor seating, and then the menu - we chose wisely. Having returned from a trip to Italy earlier in the month, I was delighted to find similar foods and wines and we weren't disappointed. This place always looks so inviting when I walk by and I couldn't wait to try it. I went for dinner and ordered a fish entree. I didn't think the pesto sauce was going to go very well with the fish so I asked just to have some butter and lemon. I said if it couldn't be done, I would just order something else, no big deal. He assured me it was no problem. Then it came out 20 minutes later smothered in pesto. I wasn't about to wait for them to cook me a whole new fish while my table was eating so I just scraped it off with a knife and ate it anyway but I was right - pesto does not belong on red snapper or whatever fish I ordered, I can't remember. Overall, an excellent meal. I went here on a recent trip to NYC for a bachelor party. We dined at Bistro Milano to 'get a good base' before the drinking that was bound to occur later. It's a great location, and I love the outdoor seating. Food was really good - between the group we sampled a large portion of the menu and there everyone gave the food a big thumbs up. The service was probably even better. Our waiter, who apparently had been working at that location for over 20 years, established a great rapport with our table, nearly every table in the restaurant, and many passersby. He was really witty, attentive, and to top it off he gave us a complimentary round of limoncello at the end of the meal. Great way to start a bachelor party. read more
