Came back 2x this year so far, and it's been under new ownership since Jan 1, 2025: 1) had the Michigan roll combo (8pcs California Roll, 8pcs Spicy California, 8pcs spicy tuna for $18.99) - I was honestly pretty disappointed because only the regular california roll was good. The rest was flavorless or had a weird texture. 2) came back last night before a movie at Emagine. I had the dinner combo of Dak Bok-um & California (8 pcs of California roll & grilled chicken with sautéed vegetables and rice. Marinated with Korean pear, soy sauce & garlic based sauce.). This was really good and a great value - huge portions! I also tried my the Kiss of Fire roll (Spicy tuna, scallions and cucumber with tuna on top, served with spicy sauce) which was yes, spicy but actually really tasty. Overall a much better experience than my first one back so it may make it into our rotation. However for CA roll value, I'm usually still going to Godaiko! read more

This place has become me and one of my mentor's favorite spots! It has a great vibe and very friendly servers. There are plenty of tables, both high-top and regular, along with clean restrooms and cute Christmas decorations for the holidays. They have great lunch and dinner specials that come with tons of food along with a large selection of speciality rolls and boxes. There is something for everyone to get here! I recently just got the "Ruby Roll" which included strawberries, crab, cream cheese, avocado (which I got without due to an allergy), topped with a sweet Biwako + Sake sauce. I've never thought to pair fruit with sushi but very much enjoyed the combination of flavors. My normal sushi order is very similar with crab, cream cheese, green onions, and eel sauce. My mentor got the lunch special that included 16 pieces of sushi along with soup and salad and had enough to take to some to-go. It had been a minute since we were last here. Well, more like a few years, but my husband and I swung by for a bite before hitting the movies this past Friday and I'm happy to report it still holds up! I ordered a few rolls (spicy salmon and salmon on the beach) and we split an order of the coconut shrimp as we have in the past and everything was delicious. My husband went with the fried tofu bibimbop and he said it was really good. They have a limited menu of mocktails now and I ordered the pina colada. It wasn't the type of pina colada that I was expecting, coconut and pineapple, but more of a coconut and mint. I explained that I'm not crazy about fresh mint and had I know I probably wouldn't have ordered that one and they were kind enough to make me a passion fruit mocktail instead which was MUCH better. I didn't catch our servers name but he was awesome for that. They have a cute little seating area outside but it was bit muggy so we opted indoors, but it would make for a really lovely ambiance in more agreeable weather! read more

I got a takeout here as I work close by. We tried several different rolls. Meh It was fresh. It was pretty. The knife cuts were good. Everything held together. It was also just...bland. The rolls were on the smallish side and the prices were not like super cheap or anything. Just average all around. They do have some lunch specials on basic sushi rolls. So for reference, I'm Japanese and Korean, and I cook both cuisines at home for my family, and I needed something that reminded me of the Dak Bulgogi I made recently. Well I went here with some friends and was quite puzzled. The seasoning for this "Korean" dish tasted extremely Japanese. For a few years, I came here every weekend. It's a cute little place in an unassuming strip mall. Although Godaiko is my current favorite, this place has many positive attributes. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, even the owner. All orders come with free miso soup and salad with a choice of dressing. They are the perfect size as appetizers. Their rolls are extensive and very aesthetically pleasing, some of them Are absolute works of art. My favorite rolls were often the specials, the eagle, white Tiger and Marilyn Monroe. I was so excited to learn Saline was getting a sushi restaurant! Ann Arbor is certainly filled with sushi options and it's great to have another one in our neighboring community. Overall the rolls & miso we ordered were good! Our biggest qualm with this order is the rice was on the dry side which made the roll fall apart as you picked it up. A small complaint but the plastic leaf in all of our boxes is not needed, it didn't add anything to our dishes & is a waste of single use plastic. On the bright side, all of the ingredients (minus the rice) were fresh and tasty. We had salmon, tuna & crab, all delightful; the rolls were stuffed as well. It's unfortunate I can't award more stars but rice is the main component here and it's so easily done, I'm not sure if it was a busy day or what happened. Came here after a Futsal game about 600 on a Saturday night and it was about a 5 minute wait. Definitely is a smaller place but the service is quick and friendly. Sushi was outstanding I had the December roll, Suzuki roll and playboy roll. All were very good. Edamame was good too. Prices are reasonable. read more

With this updated review, I'm upgrading Biwako's rating to a "full house" based on a combo of excellent no-touch carryout service, a 10% discount on orders over $50 and a really awesome dinner in the safety of our home. Like a few other states, Michigan currently has very stringent no dine inside and even no dine outside restrictions in place. Consequently, we're complying with the Gov by dining in the safety of our home. Despite having several Japanese/Korean options within a 5 minute shot from our Ann Arbor home, we chose to trek 15 minutes south to the small town of Saline to carryout from our fave...Biwako Sushi. Tonight, we started with the Miso, House Salad and the Shrimp & Veggie Tempura. We ordered one Dak Kui Dinner Box and one Bulgogi Dinner Box for our entrees and a couple of house rolls for tomorrow's lunch. The Teriyaki Chicken (Dak Kui) is my wife's favorite and as always, put a broad smile on her face. I was ecstatic with my generous portion of Bulgogi (delicious grilled Ribeye w/ sautéed veggies). While we missed the cozy low-lit interior of this small out-of-the-way sushi bar, our dinner was a 5-star winner all the way home. read more

Poor attention to order accuracy, delivery of food and order taking.. Food was OK, but.... It's been a while since I last visited here. Today, we placed our order starting with Tempura Appetizer. The app was very good but I had to ask for side plates. Next we ordered sushi and rolls. They asked if we wanted soup and salad and we said, yes. The sushi came out as did only one roll. One did not, thought it may still be making it. I had to ask for soy sauce dishes. The soup and salad still had not come out. We asked for this after the main meals of nigiri and 1 roll were delivered to the table. When I was handed the bill I asked the server to wait for a moment because I wanted to make sure the Wow Wow roll I ordered wasn't on the bill since it was never delivered. Overall this is a solid restaurant to get sushi. The food is solid, service is friendly, the prices are as expected, and the parking is generous. My main issue is that there are WAY TOO MANY options on the menu. It's virtually impossible to make a decision when you're hungry. And why are you in a restaurant? Because you're hungry! Last night was my first time ever dining-in. Mostly a great experience! The food is fantastic. We had the gyoza, miso soup and four different types of sushi. It was a lot of food! I liked everything we had. I have a shellfish allergy so finding rolls to share can be difficult but last night was a success. Went with the typical spicy tuna and Philadelphia. Tried out the new Michigan and Ricky mountain for fun. We loved the fish eggs on the new Michigan- never would have guessed I'd like it. Wasn't a huge fan of the lightly fried roll. It tasted good but was heavy and it can't be reheated. We tried hot sake for the first time. It was strong and I'm sure an acquired taste lol but we enjoyed. The service was good. My only negative is that I told the server (got the vibe he was an owner?) made me feel like an idiot when I told him I have a shellfish allergy. Obviously I don't order food with shellfish but when I told him, he told me there is no shellfish in what I ordered and they've been doing this for 20 years and basically know what they're doing. I have always been told to share my allergy with restaurants to avoid cross-contamination. Left a sour taste in my mouth but I'll be back. read more

Came here last week to pick up 8 rolls, to go for the family. I have been here probably 10+ times and it is hands down the best sushi in the greater Ann Arbor area. There is always a new special roll on the board that I can't wait to try, and if that doesn't do it, then I ask for a chefs choice and I am just as pleased. I love this place and it is always my recommendation for when my sister doesn't know where she wants to meet for lunch. read more

I read some good reviews so I'm a little disappointed because I really didn't like any of the food today. I got the hungry man roll and the spicy California roll and I thought they were both dry and flavorless. The atmosphere was nice, the service was decent, but the food was subpar. I tried the takoyaki as an appetizer and that I did love! The complimentary soup and salad was also good and nice to have before the meal. Biwako is my go-to for sushi whenever I visit Ann Arbor. The prices are good, the service is quick, and the sushi is pretty solid. Definitely keep coming back because of the portion sizes and creative rolls. I have been a long time customer of Biwako, over 10 years. I love their food and their good service is consistent. But the bathrooms.. they honestly ruin the whole experience for me. Please, please, please, hire someone to remodel or at least clean the grout. The bathroom smells so awful and is unsanitary. You can usually judge a restaurants cleanliness in their kitchen by how they keep their bathroom. In this case, that is scary for me. Stopped in for lunch with colleagues... if you love soft drink, then come here on Monday's; Monday's special is free soft drink, granted it's Pepsi products. I got the Roll C combo - which is spicy California roll, California Roll and Spicy Tuna roll and let me tell you, they are NOT spicy. Typically other sushi joints will top the rolls with spicy mayo, but not this place, it comes with no sauce. You get 8 slices per order, so yeah, I ate a lot... 24 rolls!! In addition to Japanese food, they offer Korean foods as well... they have mixture of Japanese and Korean Bento, which is nice. I personally would avoid the Korean food... if you want Korean food, go to a restaurant that serves Korean only. I would place Biwako on my tier 2 sushi joints in Washtenaw county. Their rolls were ok, not top quality, nothing to make you run around and tell people this is the best sushi joint in the world. For the price of the combo, it wasn't bad. It did fill me up and the server brought out more ginger when I asked. As for service, no bad... granted we were little late getting back to the office. I stopped in for takeout sushi after a movie next door. Korean menu with full sushi bar offerings. I ended up with the Sake don to go. It was fresh and good. Ok portion for the price. The menu looked good - with a lot of Korean BBQ offerings, bowls, Bops and soup. Service was edgy but polite. My order came out fairly quickly. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday evening. I met my book club here on Friday and always remembered this spot being a good one. Well I was trying new places now that were moving to Saline and we were disappointed in the sushi selection here. The place seemed to have quite a number of people waiting for takeout orders, so my hopes started high. Then it took us multiple times to get anybody's attention just to bring us water and take our orders. Then when the sushi came out we never got utensils or napkins. We had to wait another 5 minutes to get someone's attention just to be able to start eating. The sizes of the sashimi and nigiri are so reduced that it's comical they charge as much for the quantity you get. The quality of the roe and fish was just not there either. The rolls seemed inventive but lacked flavor, freshness and seemed to be put together with minimal fish. They do not offer real wasabi nor Uni. The owner mentioned that this does not sell in this town, which I can understand. Overall, the service was distant and minimal with the lack of correct sushi proportions, flavor and selection was disappointing. I will be making the drive to Ann Arbor for sushi from now on. read more
