In this life, there are a few things that are guaranteed. But, I will make two guarantees for you right now: 1) if you like Asian cuisine with a creative flair, you will love it here. 2) you will have an incredibly hard time finding it. There's no street sign to tell you there are any restaurants here. And, even with the address, you will pull up to this office building and swear that there must be some mistake. Even as you bumble your way through the building, passing a snack bar ("is that it??" you may wonder), you may think that you wasted your time. Fortunately, the time you lose trying to figure out where the heck the place is will be more than made up by the incredibly fast service. A cup of tea is $3.50 vs $4.50 for a pot of tea. The pot comes with a really tiny cup, maybe 2 ounces worth, but there is plenty for at least two people. I ordered a Bibimbap Burrito. This sounds like the sort fo thing I might create late at night after spending too much time in a hookah lounge. The burrito is downright heavy: it seems that the created a bowl worth of bibimbap and wrapped it up. There's a lot here, and it's delicious. The only thing missing from the bibimbap experince is that there's no crispy rice, which you'd get if it were served in a bowl. But, the flavors are fantastic. And, it's not wrapped in a tortilla: instead, there's a sheet of nori, so it's like a gargantual sushi roll. There are an assortment of sauces available; I picked eel sauce. This was served with a miso soup. Nothing fancy, and not much in the bowl except for a few tiny tofu cubes, but it was tasty. Not realizing how enormous that beast of a burrito was, I also ordered 2 eel sushi. They were flawless. The rice was clearly very recently cooked (as with the burrito), since it was still warm. I savored every bite. The prices are reasonable here, too. There are traditional dishes (like bibimbap in a bowl), but there are also cool twists on the traditional. There are a lot of things I want to try another tme. And, fortunately, I will know how to find the place next time.

Kanbu is a true hidden gem. Love the fact that they aren't downtown, they have a huge, marked veggie menu, and everything is so fresh! The sushi was excellent and the bolsot bimimbop was tasty, too! There's plenty of seating and lots of fun little snacks for your way out! Can't wait to go back soon!

Sushi was really yummy here! I made a lot of modifications with my online order (which I felt slightly guilty about lol) but they got them all right! It's located inside a business complex which I wasn't expecting so just something to keep in mind, was easy to find with the signage :) I also received a ginger salad! It was pretty empty inside, large seating area, and the staff were very friendly during my pickup. Everything was fresh, I would definitely recommend!

This spot is a little hard to find, tucked inside a large office building. The restaurant itself is bright and welcoming. The menu is huge with options for sushi, suhshi burritos, noodle dishes, poke and so much more. We tried the chicken katsu appetizer, which was not that good. The chicken could of done with more flavoring and the breadcrumbs were falling apart when I tried to eat it. The spicy cali roll and Scotland roll were pretty good and tasted fresh. Not as good as other sushi spots in AA. My husband got the tuna poke and enjoyed it.

Great place definitely would recommend great sushi great customer service takes a little time to get food but it is worth the wait. There's nothing like fresh food.

Wow. This place has it all…read more Sister and I went on a Friday night- quick service, quick food, AND the ladies who served us were so sweet, attentive, and absolutely the best. The inside is so cute and the plates are so pretty too! Not only are the physical dishes cool, but the presentation of the sushi was too! I got 2 orders of the simple tuna, and one New York. My sister got an order of the California rolls and 2 shrimp tempura orders. Presentation was fantastic, and the sushi was divine. The salmon was so tender and almost buttery in consistency, and the veggies inside the rolls are so fresh and crisp. I always find sushi so refreshing and it hit the spot. I'd also like to mention how fantastic they are about dietary restrictions. Tons of vegan/vegetarian options PLUS GLUTEN FREE SOY SAUCE, APPS, AND A MENU. For the celiacs out there: I didn't get glutened! They took it seriously and I had no issues! If you're not sure where to go, go to Kanbu. The entire meal was around $65, and we had a lot of sushi plus a massive pot of tea. Sushi can be so expensive and I find this place to have great prices, especially for the size and quality of sushi! If you want to support authentic, local places in Ann Arbor, go to kanbu! My only regret is that I didn't take pictures.

The server was very nice to us and was quick to bring out the food. The table we were sitting at was made of wood and gave a nice ambience of Japandi style decor. Not too busy either! The only thing to note is that the entrance to the restaurant is inside the building complex.

The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

I'm pretty torn on this one, hence the 2 stars. I came here with a friend for dinner and we were…read morerudely greeted and told that it would be best if we sat at the bar because they were busy. It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.
