Chicken Katsu

Aloha is a unique restaurant, unlike any other I've seen in the state. This restaurant serves traditional Hawaiian plate lunch. I liked the macaroni salad and chicken katsu the most. Very reasonable prices, especially for Ann Arbor, and large portions.

Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and spring rolls through DoorDash. The sauce was the right amount and the chicken was done perfectly. I also ordered a side of white rice to go with it. It was delicious and the chicken just fell apart with my fork. That's when you know it was done perfectly! The service was pretty fast for the DoorDasher to pick it up. And everything was well packaged up. Thank you! Next time I am in the area I will stop in and eat inside. I will be back!

Sizeable portions for a reason price! I ordered the Chicken Combo which came with chicken BBQ and chicken katsu along with traditional Hawaiian macaroni salad. Taste is pretty good and portions are just right for the amount paid. I also ordered the spam musubi which consisted of 2 large musubi, which is a perfect appetizer for two. Food was service was quick and it came out hot. We dined in and observed a steady stream of takeout orders. The interior is clean, very casual nothing impressive but what mattered the most for us was the quality and portion of food.

The Service was fast and we were served pretty quickly. The food was made to order and the chicken katsu plate was worth it! If you've ever had L&L Hawaiian BBQ, this is very close if not along the same level! We enjoyed the combo plate. A good amount of seating available too! We will come back again when visiting Ann Arbor! GR needs a place like this!

What can I say the food is phenomenal! A nice refresher from the same old same old food. I've tried every meat they have to offer and I just can't get enough! The bbq chicken is so tender and juicy. The katsu is perfected with the sauce! The Hawaiian drinks are a must try. I for one love the macaroni salad. I def recommended getting a combo plate to try as much as possible. There is plenty of parking. The place has tables inside. It's a cute little spot to just go and hang with friends. I really want to try the sushi and ramen next but I well ordering meats over and over and it never gets old! The service isn't quick but it's a reasonable time for the quality so just chill and wait for amazing food!

Loco Moco

Got delivery from here and it exceeded expectations! We got the Aloha BBQ mix with BBQ beef, chicken, and kalbi short rib, a Loco Moco, and spam musubi. All the meats in the BBQ mix were fantastic - very tender, savory, sweet, smokey. The loco moco was good, kind of felt like eating a cheeseburger of sorts, maybe could've had more of the brown gravy. The spam musubi was ok, and better with the sweet glaze that came with it. Each of the mains came with rice and macaroni salad. The latter was creamy but not too heavy with a lighter flavor to let the meats shine. Also got a strawberry guava juice to try - good but too sweet for me. Delivery was fast and the food arrived hot. Portions are generous - we could've split one entree between two but wanted to try more. We're full and with leftovers!

Found the place by accident, but looks like the old Chopsticks Chinese restaurant folded and Aloha took over. I can't tell if the owners changed or not, however interior remains the same as before, nothing changed inside. Glad to see a new restaurant type opening up in Ann Arbor, always open to diversity of food offerings. I stopped by, ordered: - Aloha BBQ Mix - Spam Musubi (2 pcs) Let's start with Musuhi. This item by itself, I would give zero out of 5 stars. It was basically spam on top of rice wrapped with nori. Sadly, the rice was not seasoned, but they could gotten away with that had they added some teriyaki sauce between the rice and the spam, but yeah plain vanilla flavor as it can get unfortunately. Would not recommend unless they make the changes. Aloha BBQ Mix - comes with macaroni salad, two scopes of rice, beef, chicken thighs and one kalbi. Macaroni - no seasoning, very bland. Kalbi - very chewy Sliced Beef - perfectly seasoned and something that I would get again Chicken - decent, while juicy and moist, could use more seasoning Overall, decent new restaurant and look forward to their offerings. In addition to the Hawaiian bbq options, they have udon, ramen, fried seafood and sushi rolls. For now, I give them 3 out of 5, honestly no major "wow" factor after initial first visit. I know they just opened, so as they work on their operational issues, hopefully things will improve.

Ordered delivery so it always takes a bit of a hit in freshness. One thing I can say about this place is it seems like a great value for the money. The spam musubi were serviceable, maybe a bit too much rice imo, and usually there is some type of glaze on them, I feel like? I'd order again if I had a spam craving though. Chicken katsu MINI was a huge portion, like I could only eat half and I have a big appetite. It was fine. The only bummer was the macaroni salad. Super bland (just noodles and sauce, no veg mixed in for texture) and it was warm from being in the container with the katsu. Maybe have it packed in a separate little container for delivery? We'll be trying this place again probably but it didn't blow me away by any means.

Bbq chicken, chicken katsu, Mac salad, and spam musubi

This place is fire. Grilled chicken and the bbq pork are both bananas level good. I could also eat like 50 of the spam Musubis. Someone pay for 50 of them and drop them off at my house so I can gratuitously shove them into my mouth.

Sarah A.

As I'm writing this I'm considering returning a second time! It was so good! I called in my order and even asked for them to customize my musubi order and they did it at no cost. I got one chicken katsu and one spam musubi. Both were very good. It came with sauce but I also got a few different sauces to try. One was a teriyaki sauce and the other two were also brown but I do not know the name. It was all good so I just kept using all the sauces. I got a side of macaroni salad and a house salad as well. For just $2, the house salad was a good portion in my opinion. The macaroni salad was okay. I wish it had more herbs or veggies or something to enhance the flavor. The restaurant itself was very chill. No frills spot with good seating. This is a perfect option for a Friday night in when you want takeout.

I went back to Azalea for a family dinner and didn't realize they had changed their menu since the…read morefirst time I visited. The quality of the food is still amazing and worth a visit, but there were some items I wish stayed on the menu. For example, the spicy salmon crispy rice is no longer available and only available in the tuna form. The portions are also smaller, now coming in three small bites rather than the two big bites from before. The gochujang rigatoni and kimchi paella are also unavailable. Some new dishes I tried and loved were the short rib and the grilled octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender and I couldn't stop eating it! It also comes with delicious potatoes. The short rib was a larger portion and also tasted delicious. The rest of my table ordered the miso cod. The miso cod was delicious, but the portion was quite small and arguably not worth its price compared to the short rib. Cocktails that I recommend are The Gatsby and The Promised Neverland if you like sweeter drinks! For the service, we felt a bit rushed as we were dining. Normally the drinks come out followed by the appetizers, but our appetizers came first and the drinks came with our mains. I think there was a missed opportunity to sip on our drinks and chat with our party as we enjoyed the restaurant's ambience. Otherwise, the food came quickly and was well served.

I'm pretty torn on this one, hence the 2 stars. I came here with a friend for dinner and we were…read morerudely greeted and told that it would be best if we sat at the bar because they were busy. It was restaurant weekend in downtown Ann Arbor and we didn't have a reservation, so we obliged, although the space was pretty empty. Once we got to the bar, the young waitress slammed menus down in front of us and acted extremely annoyed by our presence. After bothering us every minute for the next 5 minutes to order, me and my friend put in our orders in haste. We then waited for 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. I got the "Amazing Shrimp" sushi roll and my friend got the "Grilled Angus Short Rib". As noted on the menu it comes with Mashed Potatoes, Shishito Peppers, and Garlic Chives. Per my friend's request, the order did not come with the Shishito Peppers or Garlic Chives, but it also didn't have the potatoes. After asking for the potatoes, our server went back and we could hear her yelling at the kitchen staff. Minutes later she came out with a bowl of 3 potatoes, not mashed and not hot. My roll was great and I'd definitely order again if I come back, but I'm honestly not too inclined to after this experience. Lastly, the restaurant itself was freezing. It was a cold day but it was way colder inside than it should've been. We ended up keeping our coats on for most of dinner. I really do want to like it here because the vibe seemed very modern and clean, however the service, food, and level of professionalism fell short of my expectations.

Closed on Mondays, I think my dad scheduled his treatments around their hours because he likes it so much. There is a strong smell of disinfectant when you walk in that doesn't mix well with whatever smell is coming from the pipes but I recall this same issue at this location long before it was Plate. No worries. It's clean and welcoming. We sat, my dad choosing a bench side table with a cushion. I ordered a couple appetizers from the order pad at the table while we waited for our third person. Hot tea, water l, edamame and takoyaki. All very good. The woman that greeted us was so warm and friendly. She was also our server. I ordered the sushi lunch bento. They had teriyaki beef bento. I didn't know the bentos came with a single Tako ball or I wouldn't have order the app but don't skip on the app. It's a good order with tempura flakes and eel sauce. I forgot to snap a pic of them. The bento was excellent. Right temps, great quality and assortment. I couldn't finish it. Packed a box to finish later. Dad treated today so I don't have a clue what the bill was but the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

I even visited twice before writing this review because I wanted to be fair. Both times, I ordered the bento box (tried the chicken, salmon, and beef). While the presentation was awesome, I felt the dishes were a bit too fried and oily, and the flavors were quite tasteless and mild. The sushi (California rolls), however, was the highlight : fresh, generous, and delicious! I really appreciated that part. For improvement, Some small details could make a big difference. For example, they didn't have yum yum sauce, and the salad portion was quite small and it is just cucumber. The service could also be more attentive ( though the owner personally checks on guests, which shows her genuine care and hospitality.) The restaurant is clean and cozy, with a nice atmosphere. I love that they use a digital menu, but a little more explanation of the dishes would help guests choose more confidently. Overall, with a lot of work and effort, this place has good potential and a lot of heart behind it for a small business. With a bit more focus on enhanced quality , flavor and and balance, I believe it could easily work thier ways to become a visited spots in town.
