Date night with my honey! After a long week without him. We'd planned to take a trip to LA to visit our baby & her hubby but he'd just been on the road traveling so we stopped halfway & stayed at The Hampton Inn for the night. we arrived very shortly after a large group and waited a while to hear from a waitress. our waitress was kind but definitely very overwhelmed and rushing us. when the food came, 2/4 plates were messed up. my burger had dressing on it when i asked for a PLAIN bacon cheeseburger, and when they took it back they just scraped it off along with all of my bacon. the other plate had burnt pancakes and they put the burnt side down to see if we wouldn't notice. we had to tell the waitress to take a deep breath as she was rushing us and seemed like she was ready for us to leave even when we were not ready. the music was low in comparison to other restaurants but otherwise the restaurant itself was good. it was just the service and food that didn't meet our hopes. this also is not the first time we've been disappointed by this specific restaurant. we have visited here a few times before and have continuously been disappointed. we will be choosing another restaurant from now on. read more

As is the case in almost every service industry they were a tad short staffed. We waited a bit and finally were seated. Ishmael was out server. The man was on point. Friendly, and gave us a little information about the company. They are expanding into Texas! We stopped at this Black Bear after being on the road for 11 hours. Once we seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, Luke . Not only was he efflcient and attentive, but he also matched our PHENOMENAL sense of humor. After our table briefly shared enough of our medical and job history he was finally able to make some great menu recommendations, and even handled our slightly complicated order with grace and a smile (and a few well-placed jokes!). The worst Baked potato I ever ate. It looked like it has been boiled (not baked) 3 days ago and then they put it in foil and hit a little bit. It was barely warm and the color of the potato was grey. After serving the food the server didn't come anymore to ask if we need anything ( and it wasn't busy in the restaurant) , so I couldn't even replace that potato for another side. And it is not inexpensive. Informal, yes. The server was a female named Alex,and she was very busy. The restaurant was probably short-staffed, because although she practically ran everywhere, the wait to order was far too long, and the wait for my order to be presented was quite lengthy as well. The menu consists primarily of comfort food. My order was the California Bacon Benedict ($17.39), certainly not an inexpensive beakfast entree. Much to my disappointment, although a beautiful presentation, it was not served hot, or even very warm. Pretty much room temp, actually. I was not willing to endure another lengthy wait for a reorder, so just consumed most of it. This was my first exposure to Black Bear Diners, and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
