Habit is always reliable. We appreciate them offering both onion rings and sweet potato fries as alternatives to French fries, and my husband enjoys the ahi tuna sandwich. My onion rings were crisp and light, almost the lightness of a tempura coating. I got the seasonal sirloin steak sandwich on this visit, and it was good, with garlic aioli on a soft ciabatta bun with perfect interior grill-crisping. The steak was tender enough--it's a sirloin, not a filet mignon. My only complaint is that the steak covered only about half of the bun. They should either upsize the steak or downsize the bun. You took away the cash registers and made it all automated and cashless. It takes away the human aspect and interaction! The self service kiosk are NOT USER FRIENDLY! You charge a dollar for sauce now and you never used to do that. The milkshakes are smaller and not blended right. You had signs up at every kiosk saying you are out of chicken!?! Bruh, how do you run outta chicken, when half the things on the menu are chicken related? All the tables hadn't been wiped down at all. They yell out the last four digits of your phone number instead of giving you a vibrating pager like before. The bathroom was small and gross. We were on our way home after a 3-hour drive and hungry, so my mom yelled out, "How about Habit Burger & Grill?" We had never been, so we figured why not try it. The guy at the counter wasn't super friendly, but he was quick and told us the top favorites, which I appreciated. I got the chicken club and my mom ordered the grilled chicken salad. My sandwich was so good, it had a generous amount of avocado, with a hand-filleted marinated chicken breast, crispy veggies, hickory-smoked bacon, all on toasted sourdough. I enjoyed every bite. My recollections of Habit Burger go back to when I first moved to Southern California in the 80's. It was still mostly a modest chain out of Santa Barbara, expanding into Ventura County. Their charbroiled burgers could be counted on to be juicy, flavorful, and with toppings that were more like your own backyard BBQ versus mass-produced. They were acquired several times this millennium and have grown rapidly. Smartly, they have restaurants on major commuting routes like I-15 to Las Vegas and the 5 at the Grapevine exit. Dear Hubby and I stopped in recently while on our way to Sacramento. We'd been up early and in trying to hit the road early only had coffee and toast. By the time we crossed the Grapevine, we were ready for something more substantial. Since I had to give up dairy, burgers aren't quite the same; oh, how I miss a yummy cheeseburger! Thankfully, Habit offers a grilled albacore sandwich that is delicious and doesn't leave me feeling like I missed out on the glories of melted cheese. Sharing one order of fries along with our sandwiches was plenty. This location was hopping when we arrived at about 1:00 on a Friday afternoon. Other travelers have "discovered" the joys of Habit's food cooked to order. As a result of the amount of diners in the restaurant, it took a little longer than "normal" to get our food, but we had time to stretch our legs, use the restroom, and be ready to enjoy our little break from the rigors of the road. Given how busy they were, it was nice to see the restaurant being maintained for cleanliness. The noise level was more than I'm used to at a habit, but they do have high ceilings with the sound bouncing around. This particular location is more compact than some. It's nice to see their California surf culture-influenced artwork on the walls. Their emotional home will always be Santa Barbara, and it's a great export from our wonderful Central Coast. read more

The habit on Laval rd was a horrible experience for me due to the manager on duty named Rick/ Ricardo. We kindly asked for someone to clean our table and he shrugged it off like it wasn't his problem. I understand that it was really busy day but we patiently waited. He was constantly rolling his eyes during the duration of my visit. I forgot to order cheese on our burger and when I kindly asked for cheese he was so condescending and made me feel stupid saying "well cheese isn't free" . I don't even use Yelp but I had to make an account after my experience with Ricardo/Rick. I understand that it was a busy day but that's no excuse to treat PAYING costumers in such an awful manner. His attitude was so evident there were multiple people at the counter calling him out on it. His only response was to tell us in a VERY condescending way "Happy Easter!" His other coworkers were apologizing on his behalf. Every time he was being asked favors he would either roll his eyes or shrug. Because of his shirt color differentiating himself from his coworkers, I can only assume that he has a manager position at this location. Stopped by here in the middle of our 8 hour roadtrip, it's in a nice rest area with plenty of gas stations and restaurants. I like the Habit's food, it's pretty tasty for fast food. It also came out pretty fast. I do think the portions have gotten smaller though, the chicken patty on my sandwich was so skinny and small. Service was just okay. Great place for a quick bite. The staff was super amazing and explained everything that we asked. Food was hot and tasty and we enjoyed it. The pepper bar is great and of the course the place was super clean. The fries could have used another minute but all good. One knock is the price was pretty steep but what isn't today? Ordered a burger and onion rings through takeout. The girl shoved the sandwich into the smallest bag, and placed the onion rings in a small tray on top of the burger. Onion rings were falling all over, had to remove them one by one to get to them burger, which was so smashed in the bag I had to rip the bag to remove it. Had to reassemble the burger as best I could. Drink was overfilled so the minute you picked it up it spilled off the top of the lid. I had the works on mine though and a side of tempura green beans. The location could have used a sweeping as the Floors were really dirty even under our table. Horrible! The lid for the "large ranch" that accompanied my salad was not on! My to-go order is a mess. No one even cared to take down my phone number/email, and 'I' had to request a refund. Ranch dressing leaked everywhere. All over the passenger front seat (leather)and everything on the seat: Beats Headphones, Coach Bag (Leather), Pelle Pelle Jacket (Leather) and cords....and additionally, on my hands & my pants. There was no apology, no admission of fault, and no one that I spoke to addressed themselves as a manager, so I'm under the assumption that there was no manager on duty. I cannot imagine someone seeing me at the drive-through window with ranch everywhere because of an erroneous error, not wanting to take action and rectify the situation appropriately. Don't come here!! We ordered ahead of time to save time and they told us through the site our order was ready. We arrived and checked into the parking spot. No one came out for over ten minutes after they said our food would be out shortly. I walked inside and the manager advised our order wasn't even ready yet. I asked why would it tell me the order is ready and someone would come out with our food. She blamed the "call center" not knowing her restaurant was busy. Line was too big inside be you could see people were just standing around waiting for food. They need better management to streamline the process. no seems to be organized to get food out to customers. I was on the way on I-5 and found this Habbit Burger Grill spot in the Tejon outlets at Arvin just before the Grapevine climb. The food is delicious and the fries were crispy. This place has a drive thru, so you can order burgers on the go. There is enough seating for small and large groups. The interior is well lit and with the rush of people, they seem to be pretty good at handling the line. At the peak, you would just be waiting for less than 10 minutes in line to order. They do have pickles and marinated chilies to garnish your food. The orders seem to be fast moving and the kitchen is keeping well at the pace in getting out food on time. This one, and all the locations I've been to since, are kept very clean.   Also, no matter the location -- I've experienced consistency across the chain (good job corporate trainers!).  Whether you choose burgers, fries, salads, chicken sandwiches, or all four -- it's fresh, good quality, well-priced, and quick. My favorite burger is the Teriyaki Char Burger with Cheese -- love that charbroiled flavor and sweet tangy sauce.  It's nearly impossible to avoid their combo with fries (fresh, superb) & a drink -- heck yeah!.  It's fast food prices, and yet, no sacrifice on quality whatsoever. I also highly recommend their salads.  They have several kinds to choose from.  More than half of my visits I would order the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, and I have them add bbq or teriyaki sauce atop -- it is supreme!  The chicken is served warm, and again, love that char flavor. Hit this Habit on my way back from S. Ca. The best part of this restaurant is the fact that it has a drive thru, which my one at home does not have. Everything was good, if you've been to the Habit you know the menu. Char burger is my go to. No complaints. One thing to prepare for, because it's cooked fresh is it is a bit of a wait in the drive thru. So even though there was only two cars in front of us, it took a little longer than I would have liked.
