I am extremely disappointed with the service we received. This is not our first time dining here, which makes this experience even more frustrating. We walked in on a Friday around 3:30 p.m. There were only a few tables occupied, yet there was no one at the front to greet us or even acknowledge that someone would be with us shortly. We completely understand that staff can be busy, and we would have happily waited if someone had simply communicated with us. While we stood there waiting, several customers who had already finished their meals walked up to look at the desserts. A staff member came out from the back and helped them immediately without even acknowledging that we had been standing there waiting to be seated. Then another customer walked up to pay their bill, and the same employee helped them as well. We were still standing there without so much as a greeting. After waiting several minutes, I politely asked if we should just seat ourselves. The employee responded with an attitude and simply said, "No, you need to wait." By this point, the restaurant was extremely hot inside, and I was becoming increasingly frustrated. I then asked if he was going to be our server, and he said no. Honestly, at that point I wanted to leave. However, I decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt because I didn't want one employee's poor attitude to ruin lunch with my mom and my son. We went for dessert only. It was afternoon on a Sunday. I ordered the blackberry pie heated with ice cream my friend had the cheese cake. We were seated in the former bar area. Our server was nice but did not seem to know the menu. We asked about the toppings offered on the cheese cake. He said he didn't think that did toppings. Visited Black Bear diner this Sunday morning and boy was this place packed with guests. Good thing we got there early and had a 8:30am reservation to celebrate our uncle's 91st birthday. I made a mistake during my check in comments, I thought it was his 92 b-day. Any how I had the mini volcano breakfast - 2 sweet cream pancakes, 1 bacon, 1 sausage and 1 egg = delicious. Anyhow service was great, we had a group of 11 people and service moved smoothly. I had breakfast with my kids. We were excited that there wasn't a wait and the restaurant was clean and staff was friendly at 7am. My kids typically order on the adult menu but they were excited that the kids menu had two side options. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders. They did not disappoint they were Krispy and delicious. My son ordered the French toast plate and he rally enjoyed it. The fruit in both plates were fresh. Unfortunately my meal was nothing like my kids. I ordered plain avocado toast. The first time it was brought out the eggs weren't in correct. Our server was kind and said she would have them remake it. I was hoping they actually would remake it because the avocado in the toast makes the bread soggy. The second time my plate was brought out it was the same toast eggs made correctly. As I cut my toast I noticed it was soggy and there was a hair on my plate. The manager was kind and did not hesitate to take it back. I was offered a fresh meal or a nee plate but my appetite was completely gone. Overall the service wasn't bad, I'm not sure what went wrong. Lesson to learn here. Check your food & have the waiters read back your order. read more

The pancakes were a bit crispy, not enough syrup given. They forgot to bring the toast and pancakes to 2 people, we asked twice. People who got toast barely touch it, it was extremely dried bread. I had the strawberry waffle, quite forgettable. The place looked like it needed a deep clean, spider waves on the owl, dust everywhere (like cake on layer). The facility needs TLC. We came here for a church fundraiser and we had a great experience. Staff greeted us with a smile and sat our family sat a table immediately. Our server Mel was nice and efficient (handing my kiddos coloring materials, getting orders for my kids right away and gave me a few minutes to look over the menu for myself). Food came within 15 mins after ordering. Kids enjoyed their chicken tenders and fries. I ordered the new york steak breakfast meal. This meal is hefty so I had leftovers. I like getting their giant burgers or my favorite breakfast dish, which is chicken fried steak. Southern Scramble has a split biscuit plus sausage patties ( mild or spicy), topped with scrambled eggs egg and gravy. I asked for extra gravy too! Quite satisfying. My companion got the smaller chicken fried steak, also comes with mashed potatoes potato or salad, plus gravy. Children's meal of macaroni and cheese plus side of cut up fruit. Shared bread pudding for dessert: nuts and raisins plus a dollop of cream. All the food was delicious. Maybe the service was a little slow considering it was empty but that just might be also because the waitress seems to be cleaning or refilling containers at the counter. Close to freeway, might be busier during lunch or brunch hours. Payment by card at table side. Kids will LOVE the teddy bears lining one wall. First time visiting Black Bear Diner and we really enjoyed our experience. The black bear decor was really fun and the menu is pretty vast. We ordered breakfast items: Strawberry Waffles ($12.29), Bread Pudding French Toast ($13.39) with a side of thick cut bacon ($6.29) and The Volcano Breakfast which includes 3 pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage links ($13.99). The portion sizes are definitely shareable or enough to take home for another meal. Everything was super tasty and we would order everything again. Service was as attentive as we wanted and needed. But let's focus on this one in Buena Park first of all Everyone was friendly as soon as we walked and of course. Just really nice and welcoming. We also ordered an extra side order of onion rings. &&& a biscuit with gravy cause you know if you go here you gotta get the biscuits and gravy.. Of course it was a little too much food, but it was well worth it and now I'm sitting here in a food coma trying to write this review.... Hahahahaha .... i've been to three different locations and they're always nice and great so just remember the most important thing when coming here is to Make sure you go there hungry because everything's delicious and you need to leave Room for dessert . You know those diners inside the theme parks? That's the same feeling I get when I walk in here. Black bears are everywhere -- on the decorations, merchandise, and to-go packaging. It's really an immersive experience. And I'm not complaining :D I stopped by for the first time to pick up food. This place is huge -- with seating both inside and out. It's packed! Not sure if it's always this crowded or just because I came during Father's Day weekend. It's an inviting, noisy, family friendly environment that made me smile. Even my to-go paper bag had the signature black bear on it, and I feel unreasonably attached to it -- I will definitely find ways to reuse it! Dare I say... it's unbearably cute. Our waitress was very busy, however there were 3-4 employees hanging by the kitchen talking and not helping out. Today I took my son for Breakfast, the lady at the front was not friendly at all (short, Brown skin with a bun) she didn't have a name tag first of all she assumed I speak Spanish when I was literally talking to her in English, second she never wrote my name on the waiting list paper, she told me the wait was 20 to 30min 1hr passed and nothing she was calling people that got after us, so I got up check the list and my name was not there, she said they probably call you and you didn't hear i say how if my name is not even there so she gave us a table after more than an hour. I was there for a medicare awareness when turning 65 conference. The food that was provided was excellent & the waitress carried out 5-7 plates at once! Very impressive! The restaurant was very clean both inside and out. I loved all the bear motif. If you have a bear lover in the family, they have merchandise for sale. You can get things like slippers, PJs, mugs and even back scratchers. The menu is unique in that is printed like a newspaper. Unfortunately the food was just okay. One person in my party had his prime rib over cooked and had to send it back. After it was delivered to our table he was told that they cannot cook the prime rib medium rare. I ordered a burger. It tasted like the kind you get at a hospital cafeteria, tasteless. The best thing to order here is the pancakes. Next time I will just order what they do best, breakfast. Be ware that they tend to either undercook or overcook the bacon. read more

I had no idea that there was a Black Bear Diner in Buena Park. Oh, how I have missed out! We went for an early dinner after visiting the OC Fair. Both of us were maybe a little dehydrated, so we drank our iced teas quickly. The waitress was excellent at keeping our glasses full. She even gave us to-go cups. I was in the mood for a turkey dinner You get a choice of soup or salad. I got the clam chowder. I liked it because it was more like a traditional New England clam chowder, not too thick, no bacon. My baked potato was perfect. Turkey was tender. Gravy was a little weak, but that was okay. Corn bread muffin was a little gummy, but overall, I was thoroughly happy with my meal. J was happy with his dinner, too. I had no idea the restaurant was so huge! We sat in the dining room on the left. There was no one outside and the right dining room was pretty sparse. My son and came cause it closer one to our location at the time.. i regretted after the first bite of the pancake dry cold leathery. I expect our food to be fresh not heated up when ordered.
